Do you own your own body? A question you may never have considered as the obvious answer would be: ‘yes, of course I do.’ Well, in law, the position is counter-intuitive. The default rule is that there are no property rights in the human body; this is well established in the law of the UK and further afield. Most people live quite happily without ever having to consider the implications of this. However, for others, the consequences of being unable to own your body, parts of it or its products can lead to very undesirable results.

Christopher DeGroot blows the whistle,
The neoconservative movement has always been more of an alternative left than a school of conservatism proper. Hence the right’s main enemy has long been not the left, but the phony, neoconservative right. For the right cannot realize conservative values—nationalist economics, immigration restriction, anti-interventionist foreign policy, opposition to “progressive” social issues like gay marriage and abortion—if the right itself effectively works with the left to advance the opposite values.
In recent decades, Max Boot, a perpetual warmonger who seems incapable of learning from his own mistakes, has evidenced this problem as much as anyone.

Democrats prefer a system in which politicians who promise the most free stuff to the largest number of people win. Because they can’t admit it, we have to wrestle with preposterous arguments in favor of overturning the Electoral College. The most absurd is the notion that in a direct democracy, every vote “counts.”

The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) is a “highly profitable scam” that “never lived up to the values it espoused,” according to former SPLC staffer Bob Moser.
New York Magazine on Thursday published a scathing essay from Moser, now a Rolling Stone reporter, accusing the left-wing non-profit of “ripping off donors” while turning a blind eye to sexual harassment and racial discrimination within its own ranks.

Imagine everything you need to do to buy a new home. If you already own a property, you’ll probably need a broker to sell it. You may also need a broker to find you a new place. You’ll need a mortgage lender to finance the purchase. You’ll have to buy title insurance and home insurance, and then find a moving company to haul all your stuff to the new digs.
Now imagine being able to get all of these services from one company. And better yet, imagine that this company will coordinate the timing of each stage of the transaction so that moving from one place to another becomes virtually seamless. Several real estate tech companies are racing to make this dream a reality.
I’d like to be able to fold up my existing home and ship it to a lot in a new neighborhood. Now that would be impressive.

Following reports that a flood of New Zealand gun owners have been voluntarily surrending their firearms in the wake of last Friday’s Christchurch mosque attack that left 50 dead, the numbers are in on how many Kiwis actually handed over their weapons.
Out of an estimated 1.2 million registered guns, New Zealand police report that as of Tuesday night, 37 firearms have been surrendered nationwide, according to BuzzFeed.

When Thomas Jefferson made the case for state-supported public schooling to Benjamin Franklin and other skeptics, he emphasized the necessity of turning young students into fully-fledged citizens. If our new form of government was to survive, Jefferson argued, it would need to be buttressed by an education system that taught the virtues of self-government. Public schooling was to become “the keystone in the arch” of our new constitutional republic.
Education was never meant to be values-neutral, and recent decades have shown that the public schools are indeed aggressively teaching a set of values to the almost 90 percent of American kids who travel through their halls. They’re just not the small-r republican values Jefferson had in mind.x

Jamar Beach was riding his motorcycle in North Carolina on Sept. 1, 2018 when Cruz Carmona failed to yield and crashed into Beach’s bike. Beach was then decapitated, and Carmona kept driving.
“At that point, yes, it was an accident,” Robinson said. “However, Mr. Cruz Carmona never stopped. He decapitated my son and kept going with his body lodged in the side of the van. And so for me, that’s not an accident. That was a choice at that point.”
Carmona only received 20-33 months in prison after prosecutors said they couldn’t pursue further charges without evidence, according to WRAL. He could be released in as little as 14 months with credit for time served.

Politics in the modern age was symbolic, as much as practical, as the state had grown so large that meaningful change was going to be gradual. In fact, change was so slow that it transcended generations. One generation of politicians would tinker around with the rules and the next generation would realize the consequences. By the time the consequences of Johnson’s Great Society were felt, the people who pushed it were mostly out of office, so it was the successors who had to deal with the ramifications.
In the post-modern age, some may call it the technological age, political language is becoming esoteric, rather than symbolic. The language and discourse is not supposed to be sensible, but rather designed to test the boundaries of the formal political language. It is a game, of sorts, to figure out how to insert bits of heresy and forbidden topics into the political discourse, in a way that is only obvious to the people doing it. The point of the effort is to get people talking obliquely about forbidden topics and themes.

This may be a viable financing model for Politically Incorrect professors.
The controversial professor who drew ire of trans activists by refusing to use genderless pronouns is now making more than $50,000 US a month from his adoring fans.
In October of last year, Peterson—at the time an relatively unknown psychology professor—was thrust into the spotlight because of his refusal to use gender neutral pronouns for his students. This became a flashpoint in a debate about political correctness and Peterson rode the controversy to that of a very well paid star. Before courting controversy, Peterson was an accomplished academic—one that taught at Harvard before being granted tenure at the University of Toronto.
…
Now, less than a year since hitting fame, Peterson pulls in (at the time of writing) $51,135 from the crowdsourcing website Patreon which, as the Toronto Star reports, makes him the 32nd highest earner on the site. In April of this year, Peterson was denied research funding for the first time and the professor saw fans, which includes Canada’s answer to Infowars, Rebel Media, launch crowdfunding campaigns on his behalf—raising almost $200,000.

The people who do those cute and vapid studies on how your toddler is racist — by which they mean he prefers people who look like mommy and daddy, or their surrogates in his life — don’t seem to understand that. They don’t seem to understand that for most of human existence, (prehistory is much longer than history) for a toddler to stray outside his tribe meant at best he was raised as a slave, and at worst he became lunch.
