I wonder how they will react when those companies say, ‘Well, I guess we won’t provide services to France any more.’
A core principle of economics is that you always get less of the behavior you tax, just as you always get more of the behavior you subsidize.

I guess they’re running out of English people to come to their services.
Wonder how the Iranians, most of whom are Muslims, like the idea of a woman priest. Most Iranian Christians are either Orthodox or Nestorian, and they wouldn’t attend an Anglican service anyway. I suspect that the number of Iranian Anglicans is pretty miniscule.

And it was totally a mistake. The tune is musically too complex for a decent anthem. America the Beautiful would have been much the superior choice. Even God Bless America would have been better, although nowadays there would be a very vocal minority trying to change it.

ZMan lays it out.
The other day, someone asked me what makes for a good writer. We were discussing Jonah Goldberg’s new venture and I pointed out that the big challenge they will face is finding writers that are any good. It’s not so much that their opinions are banal and lacking in authenticity. It’s that the people writing for these sites are dull writers. The whole space is full of people, who should be writing technical manuals. Almost everyone with writing chops has been chased off by the loathsome carbuncles of Conservative Inc..
…
The most common trait of bad writers, it seems, is they write about themselves. Unless you are an international man of mystery, you’re not that interesting. No one is. Bad writers, always seem to think they are the most interesting people they know. This is what made former President Obama such a boring speaker. No matter the subject, his speech was going to be a meditation on his thoughts and feelings about the subject. It became a game of sorts to count how many times he referenced himself in a speech.

Tax refunds are up from where they were this time last year by 1.3 percent following the fourth week of the 2019 filing season, according to new Internal Revenue Service data.
To be more specific, the average tax refund has increased to $3,143 from $3,103 last February, according to cumulative statistics comparing the 2018 and 2019 filing seasons.
Oddly enough, certain newsrooms have responded to this development with total silence. I say “odd,” because it was just a few weeks ago that these same newsrooms rushed to report that tax refunds were smaller this year, suggesting either implicitly or explicitly that the decrease was tied to the Republican Party’s tax reform bill.

The left achieved what it considers a major victory in New York when the minimum wage was raised to $15 an hour. In the aftermath of this victory, however, New York City has experienced its worst decline in restaurant employment since 9/11. So reports the Foundation for Economic Education (FEE).
Proglodytes don’t want Underclass people working and independent — they want Underclass people dependent on government benefits, so that they will keep voting for the people who will keep the benefits coming, i.e. Democrats.

Edda the pug was taken from her owners after they allegedly failed to pay debts owed to the town, including a dog tax.

This points out a perennial source of friction regarding big ‘socially conscious’ activities. ‘Progressive’ state governments often mandate things that local inhabitants don’t want, so there is a constant fight between the two levels of government. Typically this is resolved by the upper level of government stepping on the lower level — state steps on city or county, federal steps on state — and that leads to a lot of spilled ink (or pixels) about ‘democracy’ and its discontents.
