For the second time this year, a caravan of Central American migrants is headed to the United States.
The group took off from San Pedro Sula earlier this week, a city located in the northern part of Honduras. The caravan crossed into Guatemala on Wednesday and is expected to cross into Mexico as they travel to the U.S.’s southern border. Originally the group started off in the few hundreds, they are now around 4,000 people.

A gunman dressed in an Afghan army uniform opened fire on a high-level security meeting in Afghanistan’s Kandahar province, killing three senior provincial officials and wounding three members of the U.S.-led coalition in attendance.
The target of the attack, which was immediately claimed by the Taliban, was Gen. Austin “Scott” Miller, the commander of U.S. forces in Afghanistan. Miller had just stood up to leave the meeting when the gunman opened fire with an automatic rifle, Kabul Tribune editor Mustafa Kazemi reported, citing eyewitnesses to the attack.

The publicly available material is often stunning in its cynicism, and makes clear that Harvard admission officers employ stereotypes of Asian-Americans as conformist, obedient, and indistinguishable—or, as one applicant was described, as “busy and bright,” but “need[ing] to fight it out with many similar to [him or her].” The memo also describes Harvard’s initial identification of prospective students through the “lop list,” a measure by which the university “fine-tunes” the racial composition of its class once early acceptances start pouring in. One striking piece of evidence is the annual meeting of admissions officers of 17 elite and Ivy League colleges, at which they sit in a room and, one-by-one, read the percentage of admitted students from each of seven racial categories and then discuss (without taking notes). Harvard officials describe this process as “educational”; to the eye untrained in the finer points of holistic review, it looks an awful lot like collusion.

Steve Sailer deconstructs some memes.
I realize I am a horrible extremist, unlike the folks who pronounce so confidently in the New York Times, but it would seem to me that DNA can tell us some things about human identity, which is an interestingly complex subject.
For example, Honolulu preppy Barack Obama may well have had less “lived experience” while growing up of being an African American than did Rachel Dolezal, who grew up with black (adopted) siblings. But Obama had the DNA (and a 150,000-word memoir explaining that his “Story of Race and Inheritance” was all about his “Dreams From My Father”), while Dolezal didn’t have the DNA.

In a combative exchange at a hearing Friday in Washington, D.C., a federal judge unabashedly accused career State Department officials of lying and signing “clearly false” affidavits to derail a series of lawsuits seeking information about former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s private email server and her handling of the 2012 terrorist attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya.
U.S. District Court Judge Royce Lamberth said he was “shocked” and “dumbfounded” when he learned that FBI had granted immunity to former Clinton chief of staff Cheryl Mills during its investigation into the use of Clinton’s server, according to a court transcript of his remarks.
“I had myself found that Cheryl Mills had committed perjury and lied under oath in a published opinion I had issued in a Judicial Watch case where I found her unworthy of belief, and I was quite shocked to find out she had been given immunity in — by the Justice Department in the Hillary Clinton email case,” Lamberth said during Friday’s hearing.
My, what a surprise. Aren’t you surprised? I’m sure surprised.

A retired University of Southern Maine professor is barred from teaching at the school after offering students class credit to protest the state’s Republican Sen. Susan Collins so she’d oppose confirming then-Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.
“In response to her inappropriate actions Dr. Susan Feiner has been notified that she is now barred from teaching at the University of Southern Maine, a prohibition that will be upheld by the other campuses of the University of Maine System as well,” USM President Glenn Cummings said in a statement Wednesday, the Portland Press Herald reported.

The study determined that out of 123 individual measurements, 65% of the news links provided were liberal, while only 16% of the links were conservative. That’s a 4-to-1 ratio. 20% of the links given were considered to be from a middle perspective.

Individual contributions to Tom Steyer’s renewable energy campaign raised less than five dollars in the last reporting period.
Clean Energy for a Healthy Arizona — a pro-renewable energy organization backed by billionaire activist Tom Steyer — raised a grand total of $4.88 from individual contributions from mid August to the end of September, according to the latest campaign finance report. The lone donor, a resident out of Phoenix, gave nowhere near the amount of Steyer’s environmental group during the same time period.

The governments of Honduras and Guatemala are taking steps to slow the progress of a U.S.-bound migrant caravan after President Donald Trump threatened to cut aid to them if the group is not stopped.
Notice — ‘slow the progress’, not stop.
The latest caravan, dubbed “March of the Migrant,” formed in the northern Honduran city of San Pedro Sula on Friday, numbering about 150 migrants. It has since swelled to more than 2,000 people, many of whom have already crossed into neighboring Guatemala.
Of whom they have arrested precisely two guys.
Obama would still be wringing his hands and weeping about what to do.

Scientists waving their arms about things that might get scarce don’t impress me, seeing as how they’ve done that for the last fifty years. Every time you see one of these Cries Of Alarm, a careful reading reveals, like smallpox sores, the weasel-words ‘might’, ‘could’, and ‘projected’.

Ace of Spades is in tune with the zeitgeist.
NPCs have no agency; NPCs don’t think for themselves; NPCs don’t perceive, process, or understand; NPCs arrive at the same worldview not because it’s authentic to their experiences, but automatically. As a descriptor, it suggests that those to whom it applies aren’t even human, but are rather, functionally, robots, or clusters of computer code. That this has resonated as widely as it has is funny, but also a little scary.
I was unfamiliar with this term but I welcome it as another tool in the ongoing endeavor to capture the unique combination of simple-mindedness and inflexibility of the modern proglodyte.

David Brooks wakes up and smells the napalm.
The report, “Hidden Tribes,” breaks Americans into seven groups, from left to right, with names like Traditional Liberals, Moderates, Politically Disengaged and so on. It won’t surprise you to learn that the most active groups are on the extremes — Progressive Activists on the left (8 percent of Americans) and Devoted Conservatives on the right (6 percent).
These two groups are the richest of all the groups. They are the whitest of the groups. Their members have among the highest education levels, and they report high levels of personal security.
We sometimes think of this as a populist moment. But that’s not true. My first big takeaway from “Hidden Tribes” is that our political conflict is primarily a rich, white civil war. It’s between privileged progressives and privileged conservatives.
…
What is new is how cultish this dispute has become. The researchers asked a wide variety of questions, on everything from child-rearing to national anthem protests. In many cases, 97 to 99 percent of Progressive Activists said one thing and 93 to 95 percent of Dedicated Conservatives said the opposite. There’s little evidence of individual thought, just cult conformity. The current situation really does begin to look like the religious wars that ripped through Europe after the invention of the printing press, except that our religions now wear pagan political garb.
