Yes, Licensing Boards Are Cartels

13th September 2017

Read it.

Licensing boards are perhaps the most powerful labor institution in American history.

The best estimates available suggest that roughly 30 percent of American workers are now required to get a license from one of those quasi-government agencies before they can enter the workforce. That’s about the same percentage of the workforce that was a member of a union in the 1950s, the decade when union membership peaked before falling off to about half that percentage today.

There’s no debate about whether the federal government has a role to play in regulating the activities of labor unions, of course. Should Congress do something about licensing boards?

Trump’s Bipartisan Politics Only Surprising Because of Obama

13th September 2017

Read it.

The biggest surprise in President Trump’s willingness to work with Democrats is how much of a surprise it is to much of America. Expressions of shock are coming from all corners, suggesting that many of us view fierce polarization as normal and bipartisanship as abnormal.

If so, add that to the legacy of Barack Obama. He was the ultimate my-way or the highway president.

Democrats Bring the H8: Prof Resigns Law Firm Job After Tweeting ‘I’d Be Ok If #BetsyDeVos Was Sexually Assaulted’

12th September 2017

Read it.

A Texas professor resigned Tuesday from his position at a law firm after tweeting the he would “be ok if” Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos “was sexually assaulted.”

Robert Ranco, who serves as a paralegal studies adjunct professor at Austin Community College, resigned from the Carlson Law Firm after speaking with the firm’s founder, Craig Carlson, reported Fox 7.

Boy, they’re quick — he’s already been purged from their firm web site.

From a Music major at Dartmouth to a community college professor to instant Internet fame. What a career arc.

Let’s see: Shaved head? Check. Chin beard? Check. The Breaking Bad aesthetic has its grip on the (SJW) nation.

“The recent social media comments made by a part-time employee on his personal page do not represent ACC’s vision, mission, and values,” said an Austin Community College spokesperson to Campus Reform. “The college does not condone these comments and their sentiment.”

Austin is the state capital of Texas, the heart of Travis County, the blue pustule towards which every Leftish heart in Texas eventually drains.

With 220 Languages Spoken in California, Courts Face an Interpreter Shortage

12th September 2017

I wonder whether that inclues idiolects like SJW (‘You’re all racist!’), proglodyte (‘You’re all bigots!’), and Antifa (‘You’re all Nazis!’) — granted, the latter are somewhat limited in their vocabulary, but make up for it in volume.

Courts in other states also were examined and faulted. Along with California, they began working to comply with U.S civil rights law, which bars discrimination based on national origin. Failure to act meant the possible loss of federal money.

That’s why Calexit will never happen — it would cut off the flow of ‘federal money’, which (unlike your money) is free for the taking and inexhaustible.

At least 220 languages are spoken in California, and 44% of residents speak a language other than English at home. Seven million Californians say they cannot speak English well.

‘All of us can be harmed’: Investigation Reveals Hundreds of Canadians Have Phoney Degrees

11th September 2017

Read it.

A Marketplace investigation of the world’s largest diploma mill has discovered many Canadians could be putting their health and well-being in the hands of nurses, engineers, counsellors and other professionals with phoney credentials.

Fake diplomas are a billion-dollar industry, according to experts, and Marketplace obtained business records of its biggest player, a Pakistan-based IT firm called Axact. The team spent months combing through thousands of degree transactions, cross referencing personal information with customers’ social media profiles.

The investigation revealed more than 800 Canadians could have purchased a fake degree.

“Keep in mind this is just the one operation,” said Allen Ezell, a former FBI agent who investigated diploma mills for decades. “This does not give you totality of how many are being sold throughout Canada by all schools that are operating.”

Toronto Film Review: ‘Chappaquiddick’

11th September 2017

Read it.

Forty-eight years later, let’s be clear on what the meaning of Chappaquiddick is. Ted Kennedy should, by all rights, have stood trial for involuntary manslaughter, which would likely have ended his political career. The fact that the Kennedy family — the original postwar dynasty of the one percent — possessed, and exerted, the influence to squash the case is the essence of what Chappaquiddick means. The Kennedys lived outside the law; the one instance in American history of an illegally stolen presidential election was the election of John F. Kennedy in 1960. He in all likelihood lost the race to Richard Nixon, but his father tried to steal the election for him by manipulating the vote tallies in (among other places) Illinois. That’s the meaning of Chappaquiddick. too.

Sure. ‘LGBT rights groups’ are famous for their scientific expertise compared to Stanford.

Dangerous it may be; reality tends to be dangerous, and admitting reality is certainly dangerous to political prejudices.

But the scientists involved say these are “knee-jerk” reactions.

The Working Rich

11th September 2017

Lion of the Blogosphere explains some inconvenient truths.

As I’ve written before, that’s an old-fashioned definition of rich. Today, it’s considered low class to not have some kind of job. And the thing about the top out-of-sight rich is that because of their high social capital, in addition to their inherited financial capital, they tend to get paid a lot more money than you think relative to their actual value-creating contributions to the economy. So a top out-of-sight lifestyle can be maintained with less inherited wealth because it’s supplemented with a six-figure salary.

Furthermore, as I’ve also written before, non-transferable capital (what might be called human capital) has become a more important component of being rich. Mere ownership of assets have become a declining source of income. The dividend yield on stocks, the interest rates paid on corporate debt, have never been lower. If you’re just sitting on your assets, then your wealth is declining. I believe that the money which used to go to stockholders is now being transferred to C-level executives, investment bankers and other finance types, and to a lesser extent overpaid corporate helpers like BIGLAW partners and management consultants.

Most of the Chattering Class, and all of the Democrat Underclass base, have no clue about these simple truths.

Portland Police Are Purging Their Gang Database Because There Aren’t Enough White Gangs

10th September 2017

Portland police will no longer maintain a database of suspected gang members, due to concerns that the vast majority of people with the gang label are racial minorities.

Starting Oct. 15, the Portland Police Bureau will end the 20-year practice of issuing gang member designations, which police say can lead to “unintended consequences” and a lifelong stigma even for those who have given up the gang lifestyle. Officials intend to notify the approximately 300 people on the gang list that the bureau will purge all records related to the designations, The Oregonian reported.

I am not making this up.
