Study Finds Temperature Adjustments Account for ‘Nearly All of the Warming’ in Climate Data

6th July 2017

Read it.

A new study found adjustments made to global surface temperature readings by scientists in recent years “are totally inconsistent with published and credible U.S. and other temperature data.”

The peer-reviewed study tried to validate current surface temperature datasets managed by NASA, NOAA and the UK’s Met Office, all of which make adjustments to raw thermometer readings. Skeptics of man-made global warming have criticized the adjustments.

Climate scientists often apply adjustments to surface temperature thermometers to account for “biases” in the data. The new study doesn’t question the adjustments themselves but notes nearly all of them increase the warming trend.

The Latest Trend in Denmark: Long-Distance Beheading?

5th July 2017

Read it.

Here’s the latest prank by those mischievous “youths” in Denmark: long-distance beheading. The young scamps hoped to execute a traditional decapitation without having to lay a hand on a scimitar or get blood on their Nikes. Their apparent plan was truly demonic, and tragedy was only averted by sheer luck.

It makes you wonder: don’t Muslims use the bike path? Or did the word go out through culture-enricher networks not to travel down that particular path on that particular night? Or did the perpetrators simply not care who encountered their trap?

If We Tried to Use Our Nukes, Would They Work?

5th July 2017

Read it.

Hint: Probably not.

Nuclear weapons such as the W87, W88, B-61 (various versions) and B-83 were designed to be absolutely state of the art in terms of yield-weight ratio, using the technology of the 1970s and 1980s. The expected service life of those nuclear weapons was about 20 years, after which they’d be retired and replaced with more modern ones.

Well, that isn’t happening and no one really understands how keeping these weapons past their expected service lives is affecting their reliability — the high explosive surrounding the plutonium pits keep absorbing radiation.

It can be removed and replaced but the high explosive is literally glued to the pit and sometimes cracks when it’s taken off.

There’s also the question of exposing personnel to additional radiation as a result of americium-241 ingrowth in the plutonium core.

And, of course, none of this can be tested. The Nuclear Matters Handbook also mentions some known safety upgrades that cannot be installed, because no one knows how they might affect reliability.

As a minor aside, it has been well over twenty-five years, since the U.S. tested a weapon with a yield in excess of 150 kilotons, so the secondary designs of existing weapons may well be from the 1960s …

The Mid-Wife Crisis

5th July 2017

ZMan turns over a rock.

We tend to think of feminism as a young woman’s game, but the real damage done to society is by the middle-aged feminists. They are like the post-graduate drug dealers that hang around high school kids, offering them booze and drugs. Not content with having thrown their own lives away, they give meaning to their lives by helping the next generation destroy itself. That’s the modern feminist. Her singular purpose is to pass the virus onto the next generation, while simultaneously ruining the lives of her peers.

When you step back from the rhetoric, feminism has always been a tantrum against biological reality. Nature has assigned narrow roles to the sexes. Men are wired to mate as often as possible with as many females as possible. Women, in contrast, are built to select a high status male and keep him around for protection of themselves and their off-spring. The pair-bonding we see outside of sub-Saharan Africa is a delicate balance that requires a complex social structure to maintain. Feminism is a tirade against this reality.

What If You Could Brush Your Teeth in 10 Seconds Through the Power of Crowdfunding?

5th July 2017

Read it.

There are a small set of facts here, but they have profound implications for how we live our lives.

  1. There’s a new Kickstarter project called Amabrush.
  2. It’s shaped like a mouthguard, and it brushes your teeth all at once in 10 seconds.
  3. A removable handle makes the whole setup look like an adult pacifier. It’s what vibrates the “brush” mouthpiece and dispenses the toothpaste.
  4. The handle uses proprietary toothpaste capsules.

Notice what’s missing? That’s right, there’s no app. How am I supposed to set up an IFTTT recipe to tweet @ my mom every time I brush?

Does it do flossing? I have to pacify the dentist.

Fairly considered, the Texas legislature is more functional than the United States Congress, and more genteel than the House of Commons. But a recurrent crop of crackpots and ideologues has fed the state’s reputation for aggressive know-nothingism and proudly retrograde politics.

The United States is full of people who were born outside of the coastal behavioral sinks but whose dearest dream was to shed their bucolic origin and ape the manners and ideology of the ruling establishment. Typically the first thing these people do when they get to The Coast is write an abject excoriation of their place of origin, much like re-educated Communists confessing their crimes against the people.

Report Says Canada’s Socialized Medicine Failing Canadians

3rd July 2017

Read it.

Canada’s socialized health care is driving more than 63,000 Canadians out of the country for medical assistance — largely to the U.S.

A new report from the Fraser Institute, a conservative think-tank, estimates that more than 63,459 Canadians traveled to find the health care that is often unavailable in Canada, usually due to long wait times for operations. That number is a 40 percent increase from the previous year, CTV News reports.

How about that great government-provided health care? Don’t you wish we had a system like that in America?

Marksmanship Is Nothing More Than White Privilege

3rd July 2017

Read it.

So here’s a handy rule of thumb when you hear about the next mass shooting and find the press being coy about who did it and why: If the shooters exhibit bad aim (substantially worse than 1 killed for every 3 wounded) then they are Black gangsters settling a score. If they exhibit passable aim (around one fatality for each wounded survivor, or perhaps a little worse) then they are “Irish” “freedom fighters” who have likely pledged allegiance to the “Irish State.” Unless the victims are cops; then a perpetrator with passable aim will likely be a Black man with military training (see Dallas and Baton Rouge).

And finally, of course, when White and East Asian gunmen go on a shooting rampage the ratio is usually far more fatal than what we’ve discussed before: Dylann Roof had a rate of 9:1; Anders Behring Breivik just barely exceeded 2:1, though with an extraordinary volume of fire that outpaced even that of Mr. Mateen in Orlando; Patrick Sherrill — the guy who invented the concept of “going postal” back in the 1980s — had a rate of 3:1; and Seung-Hui Cho recently had a rate of 2:1 at Virginia Tech.

So to end where we began: Aim, apparently, is nothing more than a species of White Privilege. Whatever shall we do to close the gap?

George Soros, Inc.: Catastrophe Tourism at the Serbo-Hungarian Border

3rd July 2017

Readers who have been around for a while will remember the scenes at the border between Hungary and Serbia in the late summer of 2015, after the Hungarian government closed the border crossings. Masses of refugees — aided by various NGOs — rioted outside the new barriers, throwing rocks and bottles at Hungarian police in their attempts to crash the border.

Now it seems the Gutmenschen are already nostalgic for those heady days of dead babies on the beach and “welcome refugees” signs at the railway stations. Never averse to cashing in on an opportune trend, the George Soros conglomerate has organized tourist excursions to the Hungarian border to revisit the great battlefields of 2015.

The Socialist Temptation

2nd July 2017

Read it.

Marxism appeared to have suffered a knockout with the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991. It looked at the time like the postscript to Ronald Reagan’s long struggle against Communism, the struggle Peter Schweizer called Reagan’s War.

Now in what seems like the blink of an eye, Bernie Sanders has somehow become the most popular politician in the United States. By contrast with Reagan, here is a guy who has deeply felt what Vivian Gornick called The Romance of Communism. As we all have learned, Sanders merged the personal and the political when he spent his honeymoon in the Soviet Union. No honeymoon in Vegas for the class warrior from Burlington by way of Brooklyn.

The late Harry Jaffa cogently warned that the socialist temptation would survive the fall of the Soviet Union. If anything, the fall of the Soviet Union would enhance its appeal. “The defeat of communism in the USSR and its satellite empires by no means assures its defeat in the world,” Jaffa argued. “Indeed, the release of the West from its conflict with the East emancipates utopian communism at home from the suspicion of it affinity with an external enemy. The struggle for the preservation of western civilization has entered a new—and perhaps far more deadly and dangerous—phase.”

And here we are.

If You’re Conservative, Here’s Why Liberals Hate Your Guts

2nd July 2017

Read it.

It’s not just ‘conservatives’, it’s anybody who doesn’t totally buy into the proglodyte agenda.

Liberals project their own hatred onto conservatives regularly with their rhetoric. She doesn’t support gay marriage? She must hate gays. She doesn’t want to expand welfare? She must hate the poor. He doesn’t want to tear down a statue of a Founding Father who held slaves? He must hate black people. That’s their excuse for their own hatred. It’s actually YOU who hates everyone; so they have to HATE YOU right back. This accounts for what my girlfriend Sierra Marlee calls their “I care about everyone and if you don’t believe that then I hope your kids get cancer” attitude.

That’s the problem. They don’t believe they did anything wrong. They believe the real issue is that you’re racist, sexist, subhuman pieces of garbage who need to be punished. When they get back into power, they’re going to do EXACTLY that and they will feel like you DESERVE IT the entire time because you’re so evil. I wish it wasn’t that way, but that is what the modern Left has become and if we don’t acknowledge that reality, we’re kidding ourselves.

Theodore Dalrymple talks to Parisian taxi drivers.

Most revealing, however, were two Parisian taxi drivers of African origin who said they were planning to return to Africa for the sake of their freedom. To return from Europe to Africa in search of freedom might seem at first a quixotic thing to do, completely counterintuitive, for is not Africa associated in our minds with tyranny, oppression, corruption, and poverty? It is true that the immediate inheritors of colonial power, the bizarre dictators who were the principals in what Byron called (and said that he longed to see) “Africa’s first dance of freedom,” are now of the past, having gone the way of all flesh; but even if tyranny has become a little less evident than it was formerly, arbitrary rule, official exactions, and so forth are still prevalent on the continent, and only a few countries have what we think of as proper elections.

In Africa, by contrast, they could start a business straight away, the only requirement being a little capital. They had already started: shops, hotels, cinemas, bars. They had needed no one’s permission; they simply bought premises or land upon which to build them and started their businesses as they saw fit. It was easy to square any interfering official, much easier than dealing with an “honest” bureaucracy. They hired whom they chose and paid them what the market would bear. They themselves could work as much or as little as they liked; the risk was entirely theirs, and if their enterprises failed, there was no one to rescue them and no one upon whom they could fall back other than their families (but they had chosen countries other than those of their descent). Paperwork was almost nonexistent and the government a long way off. In Africa, they felt they were free men in a way that they never would be free men in France.

How Marriages and Mortgages Influence Election Outcomes

1st July 2017

Read it.

One curious aspect of American political geography is that variables that predict partisanship at the individual level often do a poor job of predicting the partisan balance at the state level. African Americans are among the most reliable Democratic voters, but the region with the largest African American population (the Deep South) is reliably Republican; wealthy Americans are, on average, more likely to vote Republican, yet the Northeast, where so much of the nation’s wealth is concentrated, consistently gives its Electoral College votes to Democrats. This pattern makes it difficult to find variables that accurately predict whether a state falls in the Red or Blue camp. One of the few such variables is the median age at first marriage.

,,,

One such variable, which government policy can influence, is home affordability. To my knowledge, the blogger Steve Sailer was the first person to make the connection between home values, marriage rates, and vote choice. However, the existing scholarly literature supported this hypothesis.
