The Dead End

16th June 2017

ZMan cuts to the chase.

Most of the issue that plague our modern societies stem from the unwillingness of our policy makers to consider the obvious solutions. In the 80’s, we had a bum crisis due to the states being forced to fling open the doors to their nervous hospitals. The former patients had no one willing to care for them and no ability to care for themselves, so they ended up on the streets as bums. The obvious answer was to put them back into the asylums, but that was ruled off limits and we still have a bum problem to this day.

The thing is, the Cloud People do not have a bum problem. They “solved” the “homeless” problem by agreeing to use their tax dollars to build flop houses in your neighborhood and they also make sure the bum services industry is located in your neighborhood. You will never see a homeless shelter next to a Starbucks. The cops in Cloud Country are adept at putting the stray bum on a bus and sending him to Dirt Country, where the shelters are located. After all, they are public servants and that is the humane thing to do.

London High-Rise Fire Tragedy Result of Environmentalist Regulation

16th June 2017

Read it.

The highrise in London which recently burned, killing many was so devastating because it was recently clad with exterior insulation material to make it more energy-efficient.

The fire started in a lower-floor kitchen and rapidly spread up the entire building due to a “chimney effect” caused by the cladding.

Insulation keeps heat in. Basically, they converted the building into a giant kiln.

Jeremy Corbyn blames cuts to local council funding for the tragedy, but this cladding was part of a multimillion-dollar renovation.

About 30,000 other buildings around Britain have also been covered with this insulating cladding.

Skittles Accused of White Supremacy

15th June 2017

Read it.

An attempt by Skittles to celebrate LGBT Pride Month has been met with backlash from various left-leaning activists on social media.

The candy manufacturer removed the iconic rainbow colors from its product in a tribute to Pride Month. The company stated, “During Pride, only one rainbow matters. So we’ve given up ours to show support.” A portion of the profits from each bag will go to LGBT charities.

The decision was met with backlash by those who felt that the move was racist and reminiscent of white supremacy. Jezebel’s Whitney Kimball wrote an article entitled, “It Is Agreed That White Skittles Were A Bad Choice For Pride Month.” TIME Magazine also wrote that critics had felt “the new direction was inadvertently tone-deaf, rather than supportive of LGBTQ people.”

Many critics expressed outrage on Twitter, claiming that it is “racist” to sell white Skittles.

Blame the Shooter, Not the “Rhetoric”

15th June 2017

Read it.

When it comes to violence aimed at politicians, it turns out that Sen. Bernie Sanders, who is quick to blame “rhetoric” for gun attacks on politicians only when the perpetrator apparently disagrees with his ideology, isn’t the only hypocrite and fool.

In a house editorial that is stunning in its intellectual laziness and mendacity, The New York Times manages to tie the actions of sniper James Hodgkinson not simply to today’s over-the-top #NeverTrump #resistance rhetoric but to…Sarah Palin’s fictitious role in the 2011 shooting of Rep. Gabby Giffords and a dozen other people in a Tucson parking lot. Seriously:

The NYT Is Straight-Up Lying About Sarah Palin and Gabby Giffords

15th June 2017

Read it.

That’s right: Yesterday a devoted Bernie Sanders supporter and virulent Republican-hater specifically targeted GOP congressmen for death, and the NYT’s response is to bring up a lie about Sarah Palin from six years ago.

There isn’t a shred of proof that Loughner ever even saw that map, let alone that it drove him to shoot those people. Fortunately for the left, no shred of proof is necessary. Once the narrative of the Magic Palin Map was set, within hours after the shooting, that was it. That’s their story and they’re sticking to it.

I don’t believe that the New York Times editorial board believes this. They know it’s not true. They’re lying, because they think the lie is necessary. In order to maintain the fiction that they’re the good guys, they need to twist this around and blame the people who are being physically attacked for their beliefs. As Ben Shapiro puts it: “The facts don’t match the narrative, so the facts must die a gruesome, slow death.”

No surprises here.

It’s all about the Narrative, Larry.

The Man Who Made His Own Money

15th June 2017

Read it.

J.S.G. Boggs, who just died at age 62, was an artist whose career doubled as an extended economic experiment. Starting in the 1980s, he drew money. I don’t mean that he drew scenes with money in them. I mean he drew actual pieces of currency, and then tried, often successfully, to spend them.

Kind of like every Democrat President, except he was honest about it.

Why Believing Atrocity Stories About Israel Is Stupid, Even When They’re on CNN

15th June 2017

Read it.

When Israel waged a defensive military operation against Hamas in Gaza in the summer of 2014, the international community and the Obama administration alike were quick to offer condemnations, with then-State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki calling Israeli attacks on civilian facilities “appalling.” But if you’re still wondering what really went down during Operation Protective Edge, you might want to listen to Ateeq al-Falahi, the secretary general of the United Arab Emirates-based Red Crescent.

Hamas, al-Falahi said in a recent interview, deliberately launched rockets from a UAE-run field hospital in Gaza in the hope of provoking Israel to respond by shelling the facility. This shows (Hamas’s) wicked intentions and how they scarified us,” Al-Falahi said. “They always claim the enemy targets humanitarian envoys, but the betrayal came from them.”

The Left Has Raised America’s Political Temperature to the Boiling Point.

15th June 2017

Read it.

Democrats may be horrified by today’s attempted massacre of the GOP House baseball team by an avowed progressive, but their incendiary demands for “massive resistance” since November have been an open plea for the escalation of words into violent action. The daily repetition that President Trump is an illegitimate usurper who stole the election through collusion with foreign powers has been a hypnotic incantation in search of an Oswald: a siren call for an assassin.

We don’t have to look too hard to find extremist rhetoric from influential people whose appeals for violence are only partially veiled. In March, former attorney general Loretta Lynch made a brief video in which she called for people “who see our rights being assailed, being trampled on and even being rolled back” to follow the example of freedom fighters of the past. “They’ve marched, they’ve bled and yes, some of them died. This is hard. Every good thing is. We have done this before. We can do this again.” The Senate Democrats shared Lynch’s call for street action leading to bloody sacrifice on their Facebook page.

And yet Trump is the New Hitler.

Media To America: Don’t Politicize An Obvious Act Of Political Violence

15th June 2017

Read it.

In the span of a few weeks, two crazed Bernie Sanders supporters have committed acts of violence against innocent Americans.

In May, Jeremy Christian stabbed and killed two men after berating two Muslim women on a Portland, Oregon, train.

On Wednesday, James Hodgkinson opened fire on a congressional Republican baseball practice and wounded House Majority Whip Steve Scalise and others.

The big difference between the two events is that only one was seized upon as a disturbing example of the rising political violence in the nation. That was the incident the media was able to pin on the Right.

They Want Us Dead

14th June 2017

Gavin McInnes lays it out.

A Marxist professor at Syracuse University just called on lunatics to come and kill us. “We almost have the fascists on the run,” she said from her Twitter account, @danaleecloud, “come down to the federal building to finish them off.” By “fascists” she means people like you and me who oppose Sharia law, and by “finish them off” she likely means death. This is what Robert Spencer has been saying since he was poisoned. The left dehumanizes us with violent rhetoric so it will be easier to kill us. They don’t want to challenge our ideas. They want to end our lives, and they are willing to do it by any means necessary. I don’t think they care if it’s a mentally ill person or a jihadi who does the killing, as long as we’re taken out. They themselves say, “The only good fascist is a dead one,” and it’s going mainstream. Plays in the park depict long, drawn-out scenes of Trump being stabbed to death. Kathy Griffin holds the president’s severed head. Rap videos play out the assassination of Trump. In fact, the whole concept of assassination has been normalized by the mainstream media.

George Saunders Discusses the Importance of Talking to Trump Supporters

14th June 2017

Read it.

Author George Saunders last year dove headfirst into Republican heartland for a piece in the New Yorker entitled ‘Who are all these Trump supporters?’

Note that the approach is the same as he would use visiting some backwater in South America, Africa, or Asia.

To the Coastal Crust, ‘Trump supporters’ are some sort of alien species, with which no Normal Person would ever come in contact unless a special effort were made.

“I felt personally comfortable  doing it,” he told host Isaac Chotiner, “I felt like I could hang in for a long time with [Trump supporters] trying to understand it from their point of view, trying to put myself in their shoes without losing clarity.

The natives are very nice if you make an attempt to speak their language.

Of course, he could find a Trump supporter merely by talking to his apartment building’s doorman or the cabbie that drives him to work every day. But that would be a bit too close to home. Much better to pretend that they live in Flyover Country, and that one can come home at the end of the day and shake the dust of their towns off of one’s feet.

Wanted: A High School That Starts Classes at a Reasonable Hour

14th June 2017

Read it.

For me, one of the surest signs of a state-enforced monopoly is that most schools, whether public or private, look the same and act the same. About 90 percent of K-12 students go to public schools and while charters, home schooling, and other forms of more personalized and individualized education are gaining steam and changing the status quo, the simple fact is that most kids go to schools that are not all that different than the ones I went to as a kid in the 1970s, or that my parents went to when they were growing up in the goddamned 1930s! School starts in late August or early September and lets out in late May or early June, with requisite vacations that don’t take into account parental schedules or the well-observed loss of learning that takes place every summer. And schools start ridiculously early in the mornings and then let out in the mid-afternoon, for reasons that make no sense at all. Don’t buy into the myth that we’re prisoners of a agricultural-economy schedule, by the way. Even if that were true (and it ain’t), those days have long since passed and even farmers these days don’t work by an ag calendar.

I know there are schools out there that have adjusted their schedules to better edumicate teenagers. It really shouldn’t be so rare, though, and I can’t imagine it would be if school choice were more robust than it is. The Libertarian Moment—increasing comfort with choice and personalization that is abetted through technological and cultural innovation—has remade and improved every aspect of our commercial, professional, and personal lives. We can produce and consume all sorts of cultural expression on schedules of our choosing, we can work from home or an office, we can live with whomever we want and eat an ever-increasing array of food. And yet when it comes to legally mandated school, our kids are still getting up in the dark at a time when they are not just battling darkness but biology. That should change, and yesterday.

Chief Medial Executive Eden Wells was also charged with obstruction of justice and lying to a police officer. Both are charged in connection with the Legionnaires’ disease outbreak in the Flint area that led to 12 deaths after the city’s water supply was switched to the Flint River in April 2014.

Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette has so far charged over a dozen current or former government officials linked to the Flint water crisis.

Tallest Wooden Tower in the U.S. Gets Green Light

13th June 2017

Timber construction is a hot new (and old) trend promising sustainable, affordable buildings without sacrificing beauty or strength. While the movement started in Europe, it’s fast spreading to the U.S.

Just last week, the country’s most ambitious timber construction project—named Framework—was given the green light, receiving its building permit following a number of safety and structural tests. When finished, the 145-foot-tall tower in Portland, Oregon, will be the tallest wooden high-rise in the U.S. Designed by LEVER Architecture, the 90,000-square-foot building will house office space, retail, and sixty units of affordable housing.

He had been previously convicted of arson. While in prison on the arson charge, he converted to Christianity specifically to avoid deportation when he got out. Wind Power Fails in Canada – a 23 Year Life Span Not Likely to Be Replaced

13th June 2017

The oldest commercial wind power facility in Canada has been shut down and faces demolition after 23 years of transforming brisk southern Alberta breezes into electricity — and its owner says building a replacement depends on the next moves of the provincial NDP government.

BLUF: Wind power sucks. It only exists when the government takes money from your pocket and gives it to their cronies in the ‘green’ industry, to use the latter term loosely.

TransAlta Corp. said Tuesday the blades on 57 turbines at its Cowley Ridge facility near Pincher Creek have already been halted and the towers are to be toppled and recycled for scrap metal this spring. The company inherited the now-obsolete facility, built between 1993 and 1994, as part of its $1.6-billion hostile takeover of Calgary-based Canadian Hydro Developers Inc. in 2009.

“TransAlta is very interested in repowering this site. Unfortunately, right now, it’s not economically feasible,” Wayne Oliver, operations supervisor for TransAlta’s wind operations in Pincher Creek and Fort Macleod, said in an interview.

And that tells you everything you need to know about ‘green’ energy.

Cook County, Illinois, Experiences Disastrous Rollout of Its Soda Tax

13th June 2017

Read it.

Government employees one again set records for incompetence.

County officials, however, had intially planned to tax distributors, who would pass along the cost in the final sale price of a sweetened beverage. Last Thursday cancelled that plan when the Cook County Revenue Department pointed out the sales price would still be subject to a sales tax.

A tax on a tax is illegal in Illinois.

Oops. (Well, so are guns, but that doesn’t stem gun violence among the underclass.)

When the county made the soda tax a line item at the point of sale it ran afoul of the Department of Agriculture, which advised it was against federal law to tax transactions paid for with benefits from its Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP) program.

The SNAP waiver exempts roughly 873,000 Cook County residents from the soda tax.

Oops again.

Pie in the Sky? Researchers Say They Found a CO2 to Fuel Catalyst

13th June 2017

Read it.

In a classic tale of science taking twists and turns before coming to a conclusion, two teams of researchers–one a group of theorists and the other, experimentalists–have worked together to solve a chemical puzzle that may one day lead to cleaner air and renewable fuel. The scientists’ ultimate goal is to convert harmful carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere into beneficial liquid fuel. Currently, it is possible to make fuels out of CO2–plants do it all the time–but researchers are still trying to crack the problem of artificially producing the fuels at large enough scales to be useful.

In a new study published the week of June 12 in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), researchers report the mechanics behind an early key step in artificially activating CO2 so that it can rearrange itself to become the liquid fuel ethanol. Theorists at Caltech used quantum mechanics to predict what was happening at atomic scales, while experimentalists at the Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) Lawrence Berkeley National Lab (Berkeley Lab) used X-ray studies to analyze the steps of the chemical reaction.

We have the technology … maybe.
