In Mumbai, a trainee doctor was reportedly beaten by the relatives of a 60-year-old patient who had died from a chronic kidney disease. Three people were arrested in connection to the attack – the third reported in just one week in the area.

It sure seems that way. For example, a black activist stabbed four students yesterday at the University of Texas, murdering one. That’s just kind of vile and moronic.

The trend is the reverse of a half century ago when the radicals tended to outwit the establishment. Today’s campus left seems brutish and stupid, inclined to butchery and hurt feelings.

Hurt feelings leading to butchery has defined the Left since at least Marx.

Leftism in the 1960s tended to be led from the intellectual top down. For example, during 1967’s long hot summer, the highbrow New York Review of Books put a diagram of how to make a Molotov cocktail on its cover.

Today, however, much of the energy on the left is at outlets such as Teen Vogue and Cosmopolitan.

Middle school teacher Yvette Felarca, a prominent BAMN organizer, repeatedly abused her position as an educator to push left-wing activist causes, the school district claimed.

Despite repeated warnings, the district says, Felarca continued to try to recruit students into her radical organization, including during work hours. Felarca frequently tried to bring students on school-sponsored trips to BAMN-related activities, which the district claimed were attempts to “indoctrinate” the students, according to Berkeleyside.

Rush Limbaugh summed it up on his program today. ‘What’s the use of even voting Republican? We won the House, we won the Senate, we won the Presidency, and they’re all acting as if we lost. Planned Parenthood is funded, sanctuary cities are funded, Obamacare is still hanging around our necks, and the only thing that didn’t get funded was the Wall. I keep waiting for these guys to do something Republican and it doesn’t happen.’

When it comes to political speeches, great ones are few and far between. But ordinary political speeches, those given in U.S. congressional floor debates, for example, are numerous.

They are also remarkably similar. These speeches tend to follow a standard format, repeat similar arguments, and even use the same phrases to indicate a particular political affiliation or opinion. It’s almost as if there is some kind of algorithm that determines their content.

That raises an interesting question. Is it possible for a machine to write these kinds of political speeches automatically?

Today, we get an answer thanks to the work of Valentin Kassarnig at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, who has created an artificial intelligence machine that has learned how to write political speeches that are remarkably similar to real speeches.

Joel Kotkin finds it tedious.

The rage against red America is so strong that The New York Time’s predictably progressive Nick Kristoff says his calls to understand red voters were “my most unpopular idea.” The essential logic—as laid out in a particularly acerbic piece in The New Republic—is that Trump’s America is not only socially deplorable, but economically moronic as well. The kind-hearted blue staters have sent their industries to the abodes of the unwashed, and taken in their poor, only to see them end up “more bitter, white, and alt-right than ever.”

The red states, by electing Trump, seem to have lost any claim on usually wide-ranging progressive empathy. Frank Rich, theater critic turned pundit, turns up his nose at what he calls “hillbilly chic.” Another leftist author suggests that working-class support for Brexit and Trump means it is time “to dissolve” the “more than 150-year-old alliance between the industrial working class and what one might call the intellectual-cultural Left.”

A government watchdog withheld at least 14 reports that revealed department-wide problems that allow fraud and waste at a cabinet-level agency, The Daily Caller News Foundation’s (TheDCNF) Investigative Group has learned.

The reports concern issues plaguing the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), including felons illegally living in federally-funded homes, tax fraud and millions of dollars sitting in unused bank accounts for years. The department’s 2017 budget is $48.9 billion and it has 8,375 employees.
