Obviously, if they were a white Trump supporter who had recently had their picture taken with the governor of Texas and one of the billionaire Koch Brothers and then murdered a female immigrant of color, the story of they’s rampage would be world famous by this point. But because they is a leftist activist lately photographed chumming around with Democrats Jerry Brown and Tom Steyer and the immigrant woman he murdered was white, well, who cares?

Hold the Storefront: How Delivery-Only “Ghost” Restaurants Are Changing Takeout

20th January 2017

Read it.

Hungry New Yorkers ordering meals through such online services as Seamless or Eat24 order everything from sushi to burgers to tacos. But when they order from certain restaurants like Leafage and Butcher Block, they might not realize that those restaurants aren’t restaurants at all. They are virtual eateries created by a company called the Green Summit Group that operates several food-delivery services out of central commissaries in midtown Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Chicago. In New York alone, Green Summit’s brands offer all sorts of cuisine “concepts,” including meatballs, salad/sandwich/juice, and burgers/grilled cheese.

Green Summit is just one example of a growing wave of ghost restaurants that skip the storefront and bring food straight to the customer. These places range from the David Chang-backed delivery startup Maple to ready-to-eat meal services like Munchery to new business models like the integrated kitchen/delivery firm Good Uncle.

DC Mayor Warns Anti-Trump Protesters: ‘Cannot Allow You to Destroy Our Neighborhoods

20th January 2017

Read it.

Washington, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser issued a stern warning to anti-Trump protesters Friday afternoon, noting the city would take a zero tolerance policy towards violence and destruction.

Boy, sounds like a Republican.

Anti-Trump agitators in DC have started fires, smashed storefront windows, pelted police officers with rocks and assaulted Trump supporters over the last two days.

Sound like Democrats.

“We respect the right of people to express their first amendment rights but violence and destruction will not be tolerated,” she continued, later adding: “I respect the rights of protesters but will not condone crime and vandalism which are the antithesis of what we hope to accomplish today.”

Sow the wind, reap the whirlwind.

Parents at DC’s Fanciest Girls’ School Flip Out Over Kids Participating in Inauguration Choir

20th January 2017

Read it.

Parents and leadership at Washington, D.C.’s fanciest private girls’ school are flipping out that their kids are taking part in choir events for the inauguration as part of the Cathedral Choristers.

Washington National Cathedral has refused to bend to demands that its choristers, some of whom attend the private National Cathedral School (NCS), not participate in two events for the inauguration of Donald Trump.

Gee, you’d think they were Christians or something — which apparently can’t be said of the parents.

“I understand the strong disagreement many people have with the decisions to accept an invitation for the Cathedral choir to sing at the Inauguration and for the Cathedral to host the Inaugural Prayer Service,” Hollerith wrote. “I am sorry those decisions have caused such turmoil and pain. Yet I stand by those decisions — not because we are celebrating the President-elect, but because we want to model for him, and the rest of the country, an approach to civility.”

Good luck with that.

Taxpayers Slammed With $206 Million Bill in ANOTHER Green Scanda

NAO’s report found the U.K.’s Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy spent an initial $84 million on CCS, but then pumped another $123 million into a second competition after the first failed.

“The Department has now tried twice to kick start CCS in the UK, but there are still no examples of the technology working,” Amyas Morse, head of the NAO,told The Construction Index. “There are undoubtedly challenges in getting CCS established, but the Department faced an uphill battle as a result of the way it ran the latest competition.”

The Democrats’ Fight Against School Choice Is Immoral

20th January 2017

Read it.

There’s something perverse about an ideology that views the disposing of an unborn child in the third trimester of pregnancy as an indisputable right but the desire of parents to choose a school for their kids as zealotry. Watching President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for education secretary, Betsy DeVos, answer an array of frivolous questions this week was just another reminder of how irrational liberalism has become.

Which is no surprise; most of what Democrats do is immoral.

Churches Ransacked in Brannau on New Year’s Eve

20th January 2017

Read it.

When Islam overruns and conquers a formerly non-Muslim polity, one of the first tasks it sets itself is to erase all evidence of the jahiliyyah, the “time of ignorance” that preceded that region’s submission to Allah. Anything that contains references to pagan idols or to deities other than Allah must be destroyed. Musical instruments, works of art and literature, statues and tapestries — all are considered idolatry, and must be consigned to the pure consuming fire of Islamic righteousness.

From an Islamic point of view, the churches of Europe are evidence of shirk, or polytheism, and thus part of the jahiliyyah. When the Islamic State completes its conquest of Europe, all the crosses, icons, paintings, hymnals, organs, stained glass windows, and statuary in the churches will be destroyed. Some churches will simply be torched; others will be cleansed of their idolatry and converted to mosques.

The Day at the DMV

19th January 2017

Read it.

I spotted a Muslim women in a trash bag shuffling up to one of the counters. Two swarthy men were hovering around her. They guarded her virtue as she exposed her head for the license photo. From what I saw, they have no fears of rival males carrying her off. Everyone in the place was intently watching the scene, even the surly functionaries. For a minute, all of us were plugged into the collective consciousness, wondering why our rulers are doing this to us.

This is an example of why open borders will end in disaster. In a world without government, people will sort themselves out, one way or another. In the custodial state, everyone is dealing with the state. That means the interface has to accommodate all comers. In a world where the picture ID is critical, a people who think photos steal their soul or make Allah angry with their women is doomed to failure. The DMV can handle Mexican fruit pickers, it cannot adapt to Bronze Age barbarians.

The funny thing about the diverse community is they will sit forever, waiting for government service. Honkies get impatient with lines and expect the government to work like the private sector. The diverse are much more reasonable in this regard. Everyone had head phones so they could listen to their music while they stared at their phones, doing whatever it is they do on their phones. They came prepared to entertain themselves for the day. Maybe it is from habit or maybe it is from nature. Regardless, these are not people who will be voting libertarian.

Oscar Lopez Rivera’s Legacy of Terror Mostly Whitewashed by Univision

19th January 2017

Read it.

Univision’s report on President Barack Obama’s commutation of the prison sentence of convicted terrorist Oscar Rivera López is an astounding case study in fake news. The story, which went unreported on the evening ABC, CBS and NBC newscasts and was accorded a quick blurb at Telemundo, took top billing on Tuesday’s Univision newscast.

One of the fascinating parts of this story is the anchor lead-in. Most of the time, the anchor sows bias into a straight-up report from one of their field correspondents. However, this was not the case. María Elena Salinas was factual, accurate, and neutral in her lead-in. But then Lourdes Del Río took over, and with that came the fake news portion of the report.

The Next JFK

19th January 2017

Read it.

Obama’s enduring legacy will be as a cultural symbol, the first African-American president who represented a current of social change in the country and reflected the values and attitudes of the progressive elite.

He will be remembered—and revered—by his admirers as his generation’s JFK. Lasting substantive achievements are besides the point when ascending to this iconic status. As Ross Douthat of the New York Times points out, Kennedy brought the world to the brink of nuclear war, and it was hardly a speed bump in the creation of the image of Camelot.

The standards here are largely stylistic. And Obama checks nearly every box: He was a young president; a photogenic man with a good-looking family; a symbol of generational change; an orator given to flights of inspiring rhetoric; if not a wit exactly, a facile talker with a taste for mocking the other side.

The process is a little like Romans deciding which emperors to make gods after their deaths, depending on their reputations. For Democrats, LBJ and Jimmy Carter were too unglamorous and too obviously failures, whereas Bill Clinton gave too much ground to Republicans (besides failing to keep his dalliances discreet). Obama won two terms, is as ideologically pure as reasonably possible, and has cultural staying power.

Yes, Organic Farming Will Kill Us All

19th January 2017

Read it.

Organic farming, as it’s commonly imagined and implemented, does have higher costs, lower yields, and more resource requirements because of the lower yields. That’s because organic farming is little more than conventional farming with all the tools taken away. It’s a well-intended but insane way to farm, and it will kill us all if we decide this is the way to “fix” agriculture.

The Basic Income Is the Worst Response to Automation

19th January 2017

Read it.

I have already thrown some skepticism at the idea that there is going to be a traumatic transition that will throw middle class people out on the streets without warning—rather than a long and gradual transition over decades, to which people can adapt. The future doesn’t come that fast, and we will get a chance to see it coming. The best response is to encourage people to respond to technological progress and to seek out the new jobs that will become available as the old ones fade away.

Yes, automation is going to disrupt the economy, just as technological progress has always disrupted the economy, continually, since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution. But helping people to adjust by putting them on a permanent welfare subsidy is the worst and cruelest response, precisely because it pays them not to adapt to the new economy.

FBI Insists That When They Steal People’s Stuff, They’re Doing It for You

18th January 2017

Read it.

FBIThe FBI does want you to understand that while, yes, they do seize and keep billions of dollars in assets from citizens through a system that doesn’t require them to prove a crime, they’re doing it for the financial benefit of communities.

Nowhere in this new FBI “news story” titled “Forfeiture as an Effective Law Enforcement Tool” will you find the words “Fourth Amendment, “Due Process,” or “innocence.” Instead it uses a single example of using forfeiture to snag drug dens in Rutland, Vermont, and returning them to the community. By “community” they mean the organization with a $1.25 million redevelopment grant and not the family that was forced out of one of the buildings and ended up living in a trailer. That’s right—the FBI is using a case where families got bounced out of their homes as an example of the benefits of forfeiture. The FBI wants to convince us that this is what civil asset forfeiture looks like—that it is all for our benefit.

‘Hi! We’re from the government and we’re here to help … ourselves.’

CNN President: Donald Trump Wants To ‘Delegitimize Journalism’

18th January 2017

Read it.

The president of CNN said Donald Trump wants to “delegitimize journalism.”

Too late for that — fake news organizations like CNN have already accomplished that mission. Trump is just pointing out that the Emperor doesn’t have any clothes.

In a recent interview with New York Magazine, Jeff Zucker defended his network’s decision to report on an unsubstantiated 35-page dossier that claimed the Russian government has comprising information about the president-elect.

And the fact that he doesn’t see the problem with that illustrates how clueless he really is.

“I actually think this was a pretty easy call in terms of its news value,” Zucker said. “The fact is, the top four intelligence chiefs of the United States decided to include in their briefing to the president and president-elect a two-page summary of allegations involving the president-elect. That is newsworthy by any definition.”

What actually happened was that they included it as an example of the sort of ‘fake news’ that Trump needed to be warned about in his daily news briefings, not because it was a Real Story. This was just an attempt to smear Trump, and it blew up in their faces. ‘Mommeee! Johnny hit me BACK!’

The Ghost of Robespierre

18th January 2017

Read it.

At what point was a man deemed sufficiently virtuous? Where is the line between traitor and patriot? It was a problem for all of the revolutionaries and a problem that has haunted the Left ever since. Radicalism always starts as a rejection of something. It never ends at a clearly defined point. There’s no limiting principle. No matter how much you oppose something, there is someone else who opposes it more.

That’s the inherent problem with radicalism. It lacks a limiting principle. Christianity, for example, solved this problem early on by turning the problem around. The concept of sin makes virtue the passive position. Heresy is the active state, while grace is the passive state. As long as you did not actively commit sins against the faith, you were sufficiently virtuous. Even though you were born with original sin, baptism into the faith cleansed you of that sin. From there, it was up to you to maintain it.

Freeing a Terrorist Mastermind

18th January 2017

In his invaluable history of the maniacal leftist terrorism of the 1970s, Bryan Burrough frankly characterizes FALN leader Oscar López Rivera as “the man behind the deadliest bombing campaign of the era.” That’s quite a distinction.

And the man remains unrepentant, as they say. He therefore escaped pardon by Slick William J. Clinton in his corrupt departure from office at the end of his second term. Clinton pardoned 16 of the 18 FALN terrorists convicted in the group’s bombing campaigns; the other two convicted FALN members rejected Clinton’s offer of pardon. Debra Burlingame condemned these “terror pardons” in a superb 2008 Wall Street Journal column. They felt they had nothing for which to apologize.

Politicians Make Bootlegging Great Again

17th January 2017

Read it.

When Prohibition ended in 1933, my great-grandfather, Giuseppe Marano, thought his money-making glory days were over. Having made a good living selling alcoholic beverages to willing buyers at a time when that business was illegal across the country, he and his cohorts certainly viewed the passage of the 21st Amendment as the end of a very profitable era.

Except that it really wasn’t. Politicians may have formally dumped the national ban on booze, but in many places they’ve imposed enough foolish restrictions to keep bootlegging a going concern.

And, of course, it was Prohibition that gave us the Mafia’s glory days.

I Guess I’m an Angry White Man

17th January 2017

Joe Bob Briggs breaks it down.

I actually didn’t realize I was an Angry White Man until I finished reading the 397 articles written since the election that start out, “Donald Trump is the product of hatred, misogyny, nativism, bigotry, and resentment emanating from angry white men lamenting the loss of their factory jobs to China.”

The only factory I ever worked at was Phil Hargett’s bus-bench factory in Tullahoma, Tennessee, but I always thought the reason they went out of business was that Phil sold ads on the back of the benches to the Mons Venus All Nude Strip Club in Tampa, causing the Tampa City Council to cancel his contract. Knowing that China stole the municipal-bus-bench business from us makes me even more angry, since it probly makes me ineligible for unemployment checks.

The Truth About Health Care

17th January 2017

Read it.

The Left has been so good at proselytizing about government run health care for the last 25 years that the public suffers from collective amnesia. We forget that no one complained about insurance very much a generation ago and no one expected miracles from medicine. Health care was just not a big topic.

All goods and services are rationed. That’s an iron law of the universe. There are no exceptions. The rationing is either done though control of the supply or through price. In America, a massively convoluted system to control supply has evolved so that the people do not see the cost of health services. This lets a long list of skimmers attach themselves to the system so that prices go up, even though the quality of service often declines.

The question no one ever asks is how to make it cheaper. Follow the talking heads on the subject and they will never address making the price of services cheaper. Instead, they prattle on about access and risk pools and other terms they think sound clever. The reason is not that they view health care as a right. It is because they see it as a privilege to be dispensed by the Cloud People to the Dirt People. Allowing a free market for health services would take all the fun out of being a Cloud Person.
