Silicon Valley and the Logic of the Globalized Economy

19th July 2016

Read it.

The technology driven global economy is brutally competitive and has put enormous stress on businesses to adapt or die.

Because Silicon Valley has largely gotten a pass from the rules and norms that apply to every other industry in America, they’ve been able to take this to the next level, so we see it in the purest form. The results in Silicon Valley speak for themselves.

Now consider that most of you reading me probably have an IQ of 115+.  And we are all still feeling the heat, although some of us surely thrive on it at some level.  Imagine what it’s like for people who have a below average IQ, which is by definition half the population.

If we proceed on with the superstar economy, where enormous value can be delivered with relatively small teams of ultra top players, what does that mean for the social environment?  It’s worth pondering what the future would look like if the Netflix/Amazon models of personnel became more standard.  The nature of technology and global competition seems to be pushing things in that direction.

Are You Experienced?

19th July 2016

Rollo Tomassi fisks a feminist.

About three weeks ago I was made aware of an article on the New Republic blog called Bros Before Homes and a few of my followers on Twitter asked me for my take on it then. I did feel it merited more than 140 characters so I figured I’d build a post on it.

The gist of Bovy’s fabricated angst is how offensively sexist it is for men to prioritize life experience, exploration, self-betterment, hobbies and the virtue signaling she sees inherent in men when they actually go their own way. Men cutting themselves free from the expectations of the Feminine Imperative and a feminine-primary social order always imply the threat of them coming to realize their own value.

It’s very easy to criticize men for being juvenile about foregoing what popular culture would have us believe is preparing ourselves for adulthood, but when this new idealism affects the men women hope will be well-positioned Betas when they’ve reached the end of their Party Years, then there’s cause for concern.

The Brilliance of Having Michael Flynn Speak After Melania Trump

19th July 2016

Lion of the Blogosphere reveals all.

If the speeches ended after Melania, then the news media would have shown a bunch of talking heads talking to each other for the rest of the evening. And what would they talk about? They hate Trump and would spin everything in a manner unfavorable to Trump.

So instead, they put Flynn on, and they know the media would have to cover his speech because they think Flynn is someone important because they know he was almost picked to be Vice President (which would have been a horrible mistake). Flynn’s actual purpose was to cockblock the media and prevent viewers at home from listening to their anti-Trump spin. Flynn’s job was to bore everyone and make them turn off their televisions.

In southern Germany, a 17-year-old Afghan refugee pulled out a hatchet and a knife on a train and attacked his fellow passengers, wounding 19, three grievously.

The unidentified attacker was shot by police after he fled the train. Apparently there was no security on the train capable of stopping him.

PA Honors Another Terrorist Amid U.S. Foreign Aid Re-Evaluation

18th July 2016

Read it.

Instead of promoting peaceful coexistence, the Palestinian Authority (PA) has decided to honor yet another Palestinian terrorist who killed numerous Israeli civilians.

The PA unveiled a statue Sunday of terrorist Ahmad Jabarah Abu Sukkar who orchestrated a deadly bombing in Jerusalem that killed 15 and injured over 60 Israelis in 1976, Palestinian Media Watch (PMW) reports.

Abu Sukkar was released after serving 28 years of a life sentence as part of an Israeli goodwill gesture to the PA in 2003.

Senior Palestinian officials – including the director of the PA’s Commission of Prisoners’ Affairs, Issa Karake, and the governor of Ramallah and El-Bireh, Laila Ghannam, – participated in the terrorists’ commemoration.

Karake proclaimed that “this monument is intended to implant in the minds of sons and daughters that we are continuing to be loyal to the path of the Martyrs,” the official PA daily Al-Hayat Al-Jadida reported.

“Ahmad Abu Sukkar is a real man, a fighter, and a man who left his impression on everyone and who was a school for giving, resolve, and courage. We are proud of him as one of the symbols of the Palestinian national struggle…” Karake said.

The presence of these senior officials reinforces the fact that the Palestinian government openly glorifies people for murdering innocent Israelis, while encouraging future generations of Palestinian youth to emulate terrorists.

The “Bad” Muslims

18th July 2016

Read it.

The legacy media have made much of the fact that Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel, the “suddenly radicalized” mujahid who massacred at least 84 people in Nice with a truck, was a “bad Muslim”. He was non-observant — drank alcohol, ate pork, and consorted intimately with infidels of both sexes. Focusing on Mr. Bouhlel’s non-Islamic behavior buttresses the Nothing-To-Do-With-Islam meme, which is crucial to the media’s mission, even more crucial than all the weepy photos of candles and flowers and teddy bears.

The Orlando killer Omar Mateen was also noted to be a “lapsed” Muslim who was fond of an occasional tipple. And then there were the 9-11 hijackers, who engaged the services of prostitutes and lap-dancers during a pub crawl the night before they crashed their plane into the World Trade Center.

To the Western mind, this bad behavior by men who go on to martyr themselves killing kuffar for Allah seems contradictory. But it isn’t, really — it accords with a precise Islamic formula for how one may enter Paradise. It makes complete sense; it’s just totally alien to a Western mind.

Dear White People: Stop Apologizing

18th July 2016

Jim Goad blows the whistle.

All across America, white people are apologizing to black people for things they didn’t do and historical situations they had no hand in creating. While it obviously makes these self-flagellating Caucasoids feel good about themselves, will it make even the tiniest difference in the lives of ordinary black Americans?

Hint: No.

I’ve been asking this question since the early 1990s and will continue asking it until someone gives a satisfying answer or they throw their hands up and admit there is no answer: Can you name a majority-black country on Earth where blacks live longer and have a higher standard of living than they do in America? Don’t avoid the question or wonder about my motives for asking it—just ANSWER it. If you can’t, you will be forced to concede that blacks die younger and are far more impoverished when left to their own devices than when they live in white-majority countries. I realize this fact alone destroys your dangerously fraudulent “equality” narrative, but the question must be asked, again and again, wherever poisonous propaganda serves to make white people feel guilty for being history’s winners.

The Arrogance of the Elite

18th July 2016

The Antiplanner weighs in.

America needs less democracy to avoid tyranny, says Andrew Sullivan in New York magazine. America “suffers from too much democracy,” agrees Richard Cohen in the Washington Post.

Anyone who supports Donald Trump is a traitor, writes Charles Pierce in Esquire. James Traub in Foreign Policy calls Trump and Brexit supporters “ignorance masses” and says it’s time for the “elites to rise up” against them, or at least to “un-delude them,” perhaps in re-education camps.

Who are the elites who say these things? They aren’t just the one percent of intelligentsia who live in Manhattan or inside the Beltway. Really, most of them are among the 30 percent of people who make up the upper-middle class: namely those with college educations who earn around $90,000 a year or more per two-person family.

These people are totally out of touch with the realities faced by the other 70 percent. How many people with college educations number among their real friends someone who is working class? How many even talk with working class people other than restaurant servers, retail clerks, and similar workers? How many understand that the policies that benefit the college-educated upper-middle-class often harm the working class?

Thought for the Day

17th July 2016

The major difference, from a sheep’s point of view, between a shepherd and a wolf is that the wolf eats one of you right away but in the meantime leaves the rest of you alone, whereas the shepherd eventually eats all of you but over the course of a few years, and in the meantime steals your wool every year.

Kind of a metaphor for government.

‘Bread Is Broken’

17th July 2016

Read it.

The New York Times continues its uninterrupted string of lectures on how you ought to do things their way.

What most people picture when they think of flour — that anonymous chalk-white powder from the supermarket — is anathema to Jones. Before the advent of industrial agriculture, Americans enjoyed a wide range of regional flours milled from equally diverse wheats, which in turn could be used to make breads that were astonishingly flavorful and nutritious. For nearly a century, however, America has grown wheat tailored to an industrial system designed to produce nutrient-poor flour and insipid, spongy breads soaked in preservatives. For the sake of profit and expediency, we forfeited pleasure and health. The Bread Lab’s mission is to make regional grain farming viable once more, by creating entirely new kinds of wheat that unite the taste and wholesomeness of their ancestors with the robustness of their modern counterparts.

This may seem to contradict the usual ‘progressive’ attitude that what is old is bad and what is new is good. But it really doesn’t — it is founded in the deeper ‘progressive’ attitude that what we do now is inadequate so we have to change. This allows ‘progressives’ to make noises that in any prior century would suggest deep-dyed right-wing reactionary attitudes. Let them eat cake is okay so long as it’s understood that it is locally-sourced artisanal cake using heritage strains of flower and gluten-free, which only the 1% could possibly afford.

Complementarity

17th July 2016

Read it.

Complementarity acknowledges the importance of the inborn differences between the sexes that egalitarianism marginalizes or outright denies exist while recognizing and embracing the strengths and weaknesses those differences represent.

There are many well documented, peer reviewed, scientific studies on the neurological differences between men and women’s brain structure. The easiest evidence of these differences is the cyclic nature of women’s sexuality (versus men’s always-on sexuality) and the neurological/hormonal influences on beliefs, behaviors and the rationalizations for those behaviors prompted by the innate drive to optimize Hypergamy.

Women experience negative emotions differently from men. The male brain evolved to seek out sex before food. And while our feminine-centric social order insists that, in the name of equalism, boys should be forced to learn in the same modality as that of girls, the science shows that boys brains are rudimentarily wired to learn differently.

Chicken Study Reveals Evolution Can Happen Much Faster Than Thought

17th July 2016

Read it.

A new study of chickens overturns the popular assumption that evolution is only visible over long time scales. By studying individual chickens that were part of a long-term pedigree, the scientists led by Professor Greger Larson at Oxford University’s Research Laboratory for Archaeology, found two mutations that had occurred in the mitochondrial genomes of the birds in only 50 years. For a long time scientists have believed that the rate of change in the mitochondrial genome was never faster than about 2% per million years. The identification of these mutations shows that the rate of evolution in this pedigree is in fact 15 times faster. In addition, by determining the genetic sequences along the pedigree, the team also discovered a single instance of mitochondrial DNA being passed down from a father. This is a surprising discovery, showing that so-called ‘paternal leakage’ is not as rare as previously believed.

Remember that next time you read a news article that mentions mitochondrial-DNA mutation dating or asserts that ‘mitochondria only come from the mother’.

Former Governor: Europeans ‘Aghast’ at Trump

Bear in mind that ‘in Europe’, which means among the transnational ruling nomenklatura, nobody was ‘aghast’ at Barack Obama’s election, because he was one of them — with results as you see them.

Frankly, I’m looking forward to the prospect of an American President who makes ‘in Europe people’ somewhat aghast.

Panic Prompted ObamaCare Lawlessness

16th July 2016

Read it.

Senior Obama administration officials took a series of decisions beginning in late 2013 that ranged from the reckless to the illegal in an effort to keep insurers participating in health insurance exchanges.

A report issued last week jointly by the House Ways and Means and Energy and Commerce committees explores how the administration came to unlawfully funnel $7 billion in unappropriated money to insurers through a single ObamaCare program. The program — known as cost-sharing reduction (CSR) — requires insurers to reduce deductibles and other out-of-pocket spending for certain low-income people who signed up for coverage through health insurance exchanges. In turn, the statute authorized the administration to seek an appropriation from Congress to reimburse insurers for the cost of providing these coverage enhancements.

The congressional report chronicles how the administration determined as early as 2010 that it needed an appropriation to make CSR payments to insurers. In April 2013, the president submitted a budget to Congress formally requesting the appropriation.

But in July, the Senate Appropriations Committee, then controlled by Democrats, expressly denied the president’s request. Sometime after Congress refused to fund the program, the administration contrived the theory that it could spend money without an appropriation.

‘Appropriation? We don’t need no stinkin’ appropriation!’

A French government committee has heard testimony, suppressed by the French government at the time and not published online until this week, that the killers in the Bataclan appear to have tortured their victims on the second floor of the club.

According to this testimony, Wahhabist killers reportedly gouged out eyes, castrated victims, and shoved their testicles in their mouths. They may also have disemboweled some poor souls. Women were reportedly stabbed in the genitals – and the torture was, victims told police, filmed for Daesh or Islamic State propaganda. For that reason, medics did not release the bodies of torture victims to the families, investigators said.

After every Islamist terror attack, they rush to the microphones to blame U.S. foreign policy for inciting the sadistic killers, often before law enforcement confirms anything. They reinforce recruitment propaganda that says the West has engaged in a “war with Islam” and therefore deflect responsibility from the murderers themselves.

Their latest stunt is a report on the contrived term “Islamophobia,” which suggests that those who fear Islamic terrorism are racist and behave irrationally toward Muslims.

They have become incredibly effective at inflaming tensions between Muslims and Westerners, who by and large harbor no ill will toward each other.

Testing Mobility in Medieval Armor

15th July 2016

Jean II le Meingre Boucicaut (c.1366-1421) was a French knight of high renown in his own day. Aside from his chivalrous comportment, he was famous for his mastery of the physical demands of fighting in full plate armor.

A description of Boucicaut’s physical conditioning program survives to this day. To test its effectiveness and the practicality of wearing full armor, Daniel Jacquet performed those exercises and more while wearing a 58-pound suit of armor. He jumped on a horse, ran, chopped wood, did cartwheels, and more. And although Boucicaut did not call for it, at the end of the video, Jacquet danced to Elvis Presley’s “Don’t Be Cruel” in the steel suit.

Reminds me of a number of amusing S.C.A. stories.

Tensions Flare at Obama Town Hall on Race

15th July 2016

Read it.

Apparently being the first black President isn’t enough.

Tensions flared during a town hall discussion on race with President Barack Obama, with the daughter of an African-American man who died after being held in an apparent chokehold by police yelling at the program’s organizers because she was not called on to ask a question.

Poor special snowflake.

Erica Garner said she was told by the event’s host, ABC News, that she would have the opportunity to ask Mr. Obama a question.

Hey, they lied. Welcome to the wonderful world of the mainstream media.

“I was railroaded!” Ms. Garner yelled as a small group of White House reporters were in the room where the town hall was being held. “I was railroaded by ABC on the two-year anniversary of my father’s death!”

I don’t think that word means what you think it means, poor special snowflake.

She continued: “That’s what I have to do? A black person has to yell to be heard?”

Well, they do that anyway.

Man Who Tried to Rob Waffle House With an Ak-47 Is Shot by Customer

15th July 2016

Read it.

Antione Cooper, 26, is on life support after being shot by a Waffle House customer in DeSoto.

According to the DeSoto Police Department, Cooper robbed several customers at the Waffle House on Thursday, July 7, 2016 at 2:30 a.m. in the morning.

According to the DeSoto Police Department, Antione Cooper, 26, entered the restaurant in the 1500 block of North Beckley Avenue at 2:30 a.m. Thursday. Patrons at the Waffle House told police Cooper robbed several customers before leaving the restaurant and entering the parking lot.

A handgun-licensed customer, whose wife was on her way to meet him at the restaurant, followed Cooper to the parking lot, fearing for his wife’s safety, according to DeSoto police.

Police said the customer called to Cooper once they were outside. Cooper pointed the AK-47 in the customer’s direction, prompting the customer to shoot Cooper several times, according to police in the southern Dallas suburb.

Note that the race of the customer is not mentioned. This suggests that he is black, since if he were white they would have included it.

Cooper was then transported to a local hospital where he remained Wednesday on life support, police said.

The customer was not arrested. The investigation is ongoing.

DeSoto police were able to identify Cooper after circulating pictures of his tattoos. Cooper does not have an arrest photo yet as he is recovering in the hospital.

Tattoos are very handy for identifying criminals.

“The Talk”

14th July 2016

Paul Mirengoff at Powerline lays it out.

African-American leaders and pundits are tripping over themselves talking about “the talk.” For example, in his Dallas speech, President Obama referred to black parents giving their children “’the talk’ about how to respond if stopped by a police officer — ‘yes, sir,’ ‘no, sir.’”

Is there evidence that black parents give their children such a talk more often than white parents? I haven’t seen any.

Nor have I seen evidence that “the talk,” if widely given in the African-American community, is having the desired effect. Michael Brown wasn’t saying “yes sir, no sir” when he twice attacked Officer Darren Wilson in Ferguson, first in Wilson’s police car and later on the street. Freddy Gray wasn’t saying “yes sir, no sir” when he made a scene and then threw himself about in the police van in West Baltimore.

How about the black teenagers in McKinney, Texas who crashed a pool party and then refused to disperse when the police arrived and told them to? One of the kids repeatedly disobeyed reasonable police orders. Yes, one officer badly overreacted to this incident. However, my point for purposes of this post is that the behavior of the teenagers suggests that either they didn’t get “the talk” or didn’t take it seriously.

Perhaps there ought to be a mandatory viewing of Chris Rock’s video How Not To Get Your Ass Kicked By The Police, which is on YouTube.

Mac Donald describes how, in Cincinnati, a small riot broke out in late July 2015 when the police arrived at a drive-by shooting scene where a four-year-old girl had been shot in the head and critically injured. African-American bystanders loudly cursed at officers who had started arresting suspects at the scene on outstanding warrants.

The next month in Ferguson, 18-year-old Tyrone Harris opened fire at police officers, according to law-enforcement officials, and was shot and wounded by police in response. A mostly black crowd pelted the cops with frozen water bottles and rocks, wounding three officers, while destroying three police cars and damaging businesses, Ferguson police said. Some protesters reportedly chanted, “We’re ready for what? We’re ready for war.”

The same month, in Birmingham, Alabama, an officer was beaten unconscious with his own gun by a suspect in a car stop. There was gloating on social media. “Pistol whipped his ass to sleep,” read one Twitter post. The officer later said that he had refrained from using force to defend himself for fear of a media backlash for alleged racism.

All of this is a long way from “yes sir, no sir.”

Sounds to me as if the fault is not with the police.

Success against ISIS Abroad May Spark More Terror Attacks at Home, Officials Warn

Battlefield success against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) in the Middle East might not halt its support of terrorism across the globe, top national security officials told members of Congress on Thursday.

In fact, military victories against ISIS may spur additional violence elsewhere, they said.

“The intelligence community assesses that as the caliphate is crushed, the so-called Islamic State will become more desperate to demonstrate its continued vitality, and that will likely take the form of more asymmetric attacks, more efforts at terrorism,” FBI Director James Comey testified, using an alternate name for ISIS and its territory. “It is necessary to crush the caliphate but we can’t take our eye off of what the next move will be by these killers.”

France Is ‘On the Verge of a Civil War’ Which Could Be Sparked by a Mass Sexual Assault on Women by Migrants, Intelligence Chief Warns

14th July 2016

Read it.

Patrick Calvar, head of the General Directorate for Internal Security (DGSI) – France’s equivalent of MI5 – made his claim in the wake of last year’s terrorist attacks on Paris.

‘I think we will win against terrorism,’ Mr Calvar said, but predicted the ‘confrontation between the extreme Right and the Muslim world’, adding: ‘We’re on the verge of a civil war. I think this confrontation is going to happen. One or two more attacks and it will take place. It is up to us to anticipate and stop all those groups who would trigger clashes.’

AFLC Sues Loretta Lynch Over Facebook Censorship

14th July 2016

Read it.

Robert Muise and David Yerushalmi of the American Freedom Law Center are suing the federal government, specifically the Department of Justice and Attorney General Loretta Lynch, on behalf of Robert Spencer and Pamela Geller. The issue is the discriminatory behavior of Facebook, YouTube, and other major social media, which favor Islam and discriminate against other religions by suppressing material critical of Islam. Such discrimination violates state law, which should override the federal protection against lawsuits granted to Facebook, etc.

Well, probably not. But it’s worth finding out.
