But as reluctant a prophet as Jonah was, his purported tomb in Mosul, Iraq, is a holy site for Muslims – even though it’s not likely the final resting place of a man purported to live in a fish’s tummy for three days. Instead, wrote Columbia University Near Eastern history PhD student Christopher Jones, the tomb is a sacred place “to meditate on the questions raised by the story of Jonah: questions of justice, obedience, providence, fairness and divine mercy.”
Until this month, when it was destroyed by the Islamic State.
As is traditional, the chief victim of Muslim idiocy is other Muslims.

United Nations officials handed Hamas missiles found last week in a U.N.-run school in Gaza to the Palestinian government, according to a Western diplomat familiar with the case who spoke to the Washington Free Beacon.
At least 20 rockets were discovered last week in a Gaza school run by the U.N. Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), which operates several schools in Gaza and elsewhere.
I am convinced that U.N. stands for Utterly Nuts.

For seven years now, the European Union has paid regular salaries to Palestinian terrorists serving time in Israeli prisons for murder. The way it works is simple: the more Jews each terrorist murders, the harsher the sentence; the harsher the sentence, the higher the pay. It’s a repulsive system, rewarding Jew-killers for the lives they take, and paying financial reward to terrorism.
Now the Dutch, at least, have had enough of it. Earlier this month, Holland’s Parliament passed a motion to end subsidies to the Palestinian Authority, which had openly used these funds to provide financial rewards to former officials convicted of terrorism – including, as one Dutch report pointed out, the murder “of a Dutch family with three young children in a pizzeria in Jerusalem in 2001.”

NBC’s Richard Engel, reporting from Gaza, said that only two hours after Israel and Palestine agreed to a humanitarian cease-fire, Hamas fired three mortar shells into Israel.
Muslims, like Communists, think of a truce as a pause to let them rest until they are ready to attack again. There’s even a term for it: hudna: ‘The historical legacy of the hudna concept also drive home a salient point: it was always intended as a way for a losing party to get time and regroup before rising to victory over its enemies.’

English speakers across the globe are getting a real-time glimpse of what it is like to live under the constant threat of terrorist rocket attacks thanks to a hugely popular smartphone app that sends out a “red alert” whenever Israel is targeted.
As Israeli citizens struggle to shelter themselves from a near-constant barrage of rockets fired by the terror group Hamas, those living outside of the Jewish state are experiencing the same sense of panic via the Red Alert: Israel app, which “provides real time alerts every time a terrorist fires rockets, mortars, or missiles into the State of Israel.”

Last Sunday a large group of Jew-hating pro-Palestinian rioters attacked the Don Yitzchak Abarbanel Synagogue in the 11th arrondissement of Paris. There were only a few policemen guarding the entrance at the time, and the attack took them by surprise. If civilian guards posted by the Jewish Defense League had not been on hand to help hold off the rock-throwing mob, the rioters would almost certainly have broken into the synagogue, where two hundred worshippers were trapped.
A second synagogue was attacked the same day in another part of Paris.

It may be hard for some to believe, given the endless attacks on the Jewish state today, that in the not-too-distant past, Israel was as beloved as it is now widely reviled. More remarkable, it was especially loved on the left, where now it is scorned. The process by which Israel turned from paragon into pariah is the subject of Joshua Muravchik’s well-argued new book Making David into Goliath.

Malaysia is one of those countries that have been cited, along with Indonesia and Turkey, as evidence that a predominantly Muslim country can have a secular government and can, in general, be modern. A prominent commentator wrote some years ago that the Arab world may be hopeless, but the Islamic world isn’t. That didn’t sound overly optimistic at the time, but with hindsight, it may have been.
We all know what has been happening in Turkey. In Malaysia, Reuters reports that Islamic Sharia courts are increasingly coming into conflict with secular law. You can guess who is winning. Reuters begins with a story about a Hindu family in which the husband, after leaving his wife, became a Muslim and purported to convert his children. This resulted in his gaining custody of them, contrary to orders of the “regular” Malaysian courts.

The Clinton Foundation and the terror group Hamas share a key donor: The government of Qatar, a leading backer of terror groups that has emerged in recent years as Hamas’ chief financial lifeline.
Qatar, which has been designated by the State Department as a “significant terrorist financing risk,” has pledged more than $400 million to Hamas since 2012 and has long harbored one of the terror group’s senior leaders, Khaled Mashaal.
And yet a prominent labor union can stop its support of the United Negro College Fund because they took money from the Koch brothers. Interesting priorities these Democrats have.

At this year’s event, I bumped into many friends and met a raft of new people—preachers, academics, diplomats, think-tankers, journalists—from every point on the political spectrum and from a kaleidoscope of religious traditions. In between the discussions about the efficaciousness and evolution of RTP (“Responsibility to Protect) in international relations—there remain serious deficits in systematic application of a consistent standard which can require collective action, whether economic, diplomatic, or sometimes, military, by the international community in order to protect populations from crimes that their states are unwilling or unable to stop—and the analysis of challenges posed by social media as a tool for religious radicalization, mobilization, and action—religious extremist groups are using Twitter, YouTube, and Facebook with unprecedented scope and sophistication, as echo chambers to amplify hate and provoke violence—I couldn’t help but wonder: Why has the international community demonstrated no sense of responsibility to protect the Christian communities of the Middle East, given the mounting evidence that very existence is becoming ever-more tenuous because of the crimes perpetrated by jihadi extremists who are uploading 72-hours-per-minute of real-time horrors from the killing zones of Syria and Iraq?

A brief primer.
ISIL (al Qaeda in Iraq and Syria) began as Sunni Arab nationalists who lost their jobs, power and wealth when Saddam Hussein and his Baath Party were overthrown in early 2003. Saddam Hussein was a secular dictator, who tolerated Islamic terrorists if they attacked his enemies and behaved while hiding out in Iraq. After Saddam’s forces were thrown out of Kuwait in 1991 his policy changed and he declared that he was actually religious and he backed Sunni Islamic terrorist groups as long as they helped him keep the Shia Arab majority of Iraq under control. Sunni Islamic terrorists were willing to do this because Sunni conservatives consider Shia heretics worthy only of torture and death. The Iraqi Shia had staged a major rebellion against Saddam right after Saddam’s army get chewed up trying to hang onto Kuwait in 1991. That rebellion festered throughout the 1990s. Saddam and his key associates developed relationships with Sunni tribal leaders and Sunni Islamic terrorist groups, who had for decades been forced to keep their heads down. Once Saddam was out of power in 2003 the Sunni tribes and Islamic terrorists lost the financial and military support Saddam provided for over a decade. The Sunni Arab minority (about 20 percent of Iraqis) also lost control of the Iraq economy and all that oil money. This came as a big shock. Many of these Sunni Arabs wanted their wealth and power back and were willing to do anything to accomplish that task. That led to support for Islamic terrorist groups. The Sunni Arab minority in what is now Iraq has long dominated the area and feels that this domination is a right and a responsibility. They were always wealthier, better educated, more organized and prone to ruthlessness. By merging with Islamic terrorists they acquired the belief they had divine approval for their goals.

The population of Mogadishu is moving to Minneapolis, through the miracle of chain immigration. I don’t know whether there is any limiting principle to this or whether all of Mogadishu will one day reside along the Mississippi, but in any event, the Somali influx is already impacting Minnesota politics.
Despite being “natural conservatives”–imagine what they must think of abortion and gay marriage!–the Somalis have so far been reliable Democratic voters. This has created one of this year’s most interesting local races, in which Phyllis Kahn, a left-wing Democrat who has represented her district in the Minnesota House of Representatives for 42 (!) years, is being challenged in a primary by one Mohamud Noor. Kahn has long enjoyed the perks of a Democratic insider, including the privilege of owning a $1 house on prime Minneapolis real estate. But so far, all of that seems to avail her little as she fights for her political life against Mr. Noor.

Mark Steyn occasionally lets reality harsh his mellow.
Naftali Frenkel was a US citizen. That’s to say, he was entitled to the protection of Obama and his worthless State Department. In geopolitical terms, the problem is not Mr Frenkel’s murderers: every society has its share of blood-lusting savages. The problem is that the overwhelming majority of Palestinians exult in Mr Frenkel’s murder.
Palestinian “nationalism” is a euphemism for a death-cult whose pathologies seep into almost every routine daily transaction: The last time I was there, a few years ago, the affable proprietors at almost every convenience store had various local Martyrs of the Week pinned up on the wall behind the cash register, and the Education Ministry was giving first prize in its letter-writing competition to a seventh-grader from Jenin pledging to his deceased father to become a suicide bomber and “propel my living-dead body into your arms”. Their own corpses are historic victories, and Jewish corpses are the spoils thereof. There is no evidence of “nation-building”, nor any appetite therefor. Invited to choose between nation-building and Jew-killing, they plump for the latter, every time.
Obama did not create this sickness, but he is rewarding it. If you can kill Jews and US citizens without the Great Satan putting a stop on the nine-figure check, then you’ve got the best of both worlds.

Steve Sailer connects the dots.
In previous episodes, we’ve tracked:
– How Turkish Islamists imprisoned hundreds of members of the secularist Deep State on the grounds that well, sure, we just made up the evidence that the military is conspiring against us ruling Islamists, but we in the government are plotting against them, so it would be remiss of them not to plot against us.
– How the two branches of the Islamist ruling party then turned on each other, with the Gulen Cult, which has used its control of test prep to infiltrate the police, releasing incriminating wiretaps of Prime Minister Erdogan’s corruption.
Not surprisingly, Erdogan is now making nice with the old Deep State, presumably to use against Imam Gulen’s new Deep State.

Taki is delightfully dyspeptic today.
The Sultan had wisely divided the Middle East along ethnic lines into provinces. The Anglo-French duo in 1916 proved as ignorant as George W. Bush was to be 87 years later. Had they never heard of the Sunni-Shia divide? The 1990s wars over Bosnia, Serbia and Kosovo, the Gulf War of 1991 and the disastrous Iraq war of 2003, as well as the Israeli-Palestinian tragedy, can all be traced directly to the fall of the Ottoman Empire in 1920 and those two fools carving up the Middle East while their minds were obviously elsewhere. (Most likely trying to figure out whose family was older and richer.)
Winston Churchill doesn’t come out very well either. He actually created Iraq, or Mesopotamia as it was then called, and by the time he was thrown out of office in 1922 his folly had become Iraq as it is today. He created the artificial monarchy that ended so badly in 1958, thinking he was dealing with sleepy Bedouins who would genuflect in front of Faisal, whose family realm in Saudi Arabia had been usurped by some camel drivers who had never used an indoor loo.

“Kenneth John “Ken” Bigley (22 April 1942 – 7 October 2004) was a British civil engineer who wa skidnapped in the al-Mansour district of Baghdad, Iraq, on 16 September 2004, along with his colleagues Jack Hensley and Eugene Armstrong, both United States citizens.[1] The three men were working for Gulf Supplies and Commercial Services, a Kuwaiti company working on reconstruction projects in Iraq. The men knew their home was being watched and realized they were in grave danger when their Iraqi house guard informed them he was quitting due to being threatened by militias for protecting American and British workers. Bigley and the two Americans decided it was worth the risk and continued to live in the house. All were subsequently decapitated.”

“From the ruins of the Obama Administration’s Middle East strategy, the most powerful and dangerous group of religious fanatics in modern history has emerged in the heart of the Middle East.” So says Walter Russell Mead, the distinguished historian of American foreign policy (who reportedly has said he voted for Barack Obama in 2008).
The fanatical group in question is, of course, ISIS. According to Mead, who cites analysts at the Brookings Institution and the Washington Institute, ISIS is more radical, better organized, and better financed than al-Qaeda. It commands the loyalty of thousands of dedicated fanatics, including many with Western and even U.S. passports. And it now controls some of the most strategic territory at the heart of the Middle East.

The violent jihad in Syria and Iraq is the big guy we all can see. He makes sure we can see him. It’s absolutely necessary that we see him, because his job is to strike terror into the hearts of the unbelievers, as required by Allah.
The little guy that we can’t see is somewhere else. His most recent invisible appearance was at the Vatican, during an event I call Imamgate, when an imam accredited by Al-Azhar University prayed (in Arabic) for Allah to grant victory over the unbelievers.
This incident received very little media attention, yet it was one of the most important stories of the decade. We are in the midst of an information war with Islam, and we are being roundly trounced. What happened at the Vatican received plenty of notice in the Arabic media, and is understood (correctly) by Muslims as a great victory for Islam. Using stealth and deception, the Al-Azhar imam penetrated the innermost sanctum of Christendom and claimed it for the Ummah.
An excellent article by someone who really understands what’s going on — unlike most of our government.

Over the weekend, U.S. special forces captured Ahmed Abu Khattala, who is alleged to be a ringleader of the September 11, 2012 attack on the State Department’s Benghazi complex. Khattala was seized near Benghazi and will be returned to the U.S. to stand trial.
Watch the Obamanation find some way to set him free or perhaps trade him for a draft pick to be named later.
I still don’t understand why a terrorist who led a military attack on an American facility overseas should be brought back to the U.S. and prosecuted under a criminal statute. It would make more sense to process him through a military tribunal and then (assuming his participation in the attack is confirmed) shoot him. The criminal prosecution route suggests that the Obama administration has no intention of punishing any more of the hundreds of terrorists who participated in the Benghazi attack, but rather will let Khattala stand in, symbolically, for the whole. But no doubt we should be grateful for even this small measure of retribution.
Well, that would take a Real President — like, say, FDR or Truman — rather than the pretend President we have now.

Odeh is a Palestinian woman charged with naturalization fraud. At issue are her answers on immigration forms to straightforward questions asked of all immigrants seeking visas and naturalization: Were you ever arrested? Convicted? Jailed?
Odeh answered no to these and other relevant questions when she sought a visa in 1994, her indictment says. The same answers were given in 2004, when she applied for naturalization as an American citizen.
She never told immigration officials about her 1969 arrest, conviction and subsequent 10 years spent in an Israeli prison for her role in bombing a Jerusalem supermarket where two men died. She was sentenced to life, but was released in a 1979 prisoner exchange.
That seems like the kind of information that an immigration official might want to consider in evaluating an applicant. Reubner asserts that Odeh “was brutally tortured into confessing a crime she did not commit.” Odeh’s word is the only basis for the torture claim. And not only is there no basis to say she didn’t do it, there’s video evidence placing her in the bombing conspiracy.

Mark Steyn does a little excavation into the Memory Hole.
Do you remember a lady called Molly Norris? She’s the dopey Seattle cartoonist who cooked up “Everybody Draws Mohammed” Day, and then, when she realized what she’d stumbled into, tried to back out of it. I regard Miss Norris as (to rewrite Stalin) a useless idiot, and she wrote to Mark’s Mailbox to object. I stand by what I wrote then, especially the bit about her crappy peace-sign T-shirt. Now The Seattle Weekly informs us:
No one should lose his name, his home, his life, his liberty because ideological thugs are too insecure to take a joke. But Molly Norris is merely the latest squishy liberal to learn that, when the chips are down, your fellow lefties won’t be there for you.
You may have noticed that Molly Norris’ comic is not in the paper this week. That’s because there is no more Molly.
On the advice of the FBI, she’s been forced to go into hiding. If you want to measure the decline in western civilization’s sense of self-preservation, go back to Valentine’s Day 1989, get out the Fleet Street reports on the Salman Rushdie fatwa, and read the outrage of his fellow London literati at what was being done to one of the mainstays of the Hampstead dinner-party circuit. Then compare it with the feeble passivity of Molly Norris’ own colleagues at an American cartoonist being forced to abandon her life: “There is no more Molly”? That’s all the gutless pussies of The Seattle Weekly can say? As James Taranto notes in The Wall Street Journal, even much sought-after Ramadan-banquet constitutional scholar Barack Obama is remarkably silent:
Now Molly Norris, an American citizen, is forced into hiding because she exercised her right to free speech. Will President Obama say a word on her behalf? Does he believe in the First Amendment for anyone other than Muslims..?
No one should lose his name, his home, his life, his liberty because ideological thugs are too insecure to take a joke. But Molly Norris is merely the latest squishy liberal to learn that, when the chips are down, your fellow lefties won’t be there for you.

When I was in Nigeria I was told that the police and army either rented out their arms by the night or sold them to armed robbers, that is to say to common criminals. Everything else was for sale too; ministers rented their offices to swindlers who pretended to be minister for a day so that they could extract sums from foreign businessmen as earnests for contracts that did not exist. At least half the medicines on sale in the country were fake. What was astonishing was not that things did not work well, but that they worked at all.

It is a common refrain of pious Muslims in the face of atrocities done by other Muslims in the name of Islam that Islam must not be shamed. Whenever an Islamic atrocity potentially dishonors Islam, non-Muslims are asked to agree that ‘This is not Islamic’ so that the honor of Islam can be kept pristine. The real issue, however, is not what would be good or bad for Islam’s reputation; Islam is not the victim here. The pressing issue is not to get people to think well of Islam, but how, for instance, in the case of Boko Haram’s kidnapping of the Nigerian schoolgirls, the girls can be rescued and, above all, how Boko Haram’s murderous rampage can be halted.
…
But does the claim that Boko Haram is not Islamic hold up to scrutiny?
What counts as a valid manifestation of Islam? Ahmaddiyah beliefs can be considered Islamic, for those who hold them do so on the basis of a reasoned interpretation of Islamic canonical sources, even if the majority of Muslims reject them as Muslims. By the same token, the beliefs of Boko Haram must also be considered a form of Islam, for they too are held on the basis of a reasoned interpretation of Islamic canonical sources.

The Other McCain reminds us of an inconvenient truth.
If the news of the Boko Haram abductions was shocking, it was because the American media have been so busy promoting the Obama administration’s narrative that, since the death of Osama bin Laden, the threat of Islamic terrorism has essentially ended. This narrative is politically convenient for Democrats, but as with most such narratives, it’s a gigantic lie. There are still many millions of Muslims in the world who hate us and want us all dead, and many of them are willing to take up arms to accomplish that goal.
Reminder for the dimwitted: Islam is an oppressive totalitarian ideology in the guise of a religion, with which no co-existence is possible. You can cry ‘Peace! Peace!’ but if one side wants war, it’s war.

In the following video, Dr. Bill Warner discusses a third type of Islamic deception known as tawriya, which is based in the hadith and means to say something that has a different meaning for the speaker than for the listener.
But you knew that — if you’ve been paying attention.

KABUL, Afghanistan — The Taliban assailants apparently thought they were attacking an unprotected Christian-run day care center. But they mistakenly burst into the compound next door, where an American government contractor’s employees were heavily armed and ready, according to accounts that the contractor and the Afghan police gave on Friday of a wild four-hour shootout here.

I wince every time I hear Barack Obama say “The Holy Qur(*gulp*)an”. If he’s a Christian, as he claims to be, the book is not at all holy to him. It’s unseemly and embarrassing to hear a president talk this way.
Really — if Barack Obama actually were a ‘secret Muslim’, how would he act any differently?
The BBC has caught the same disease. I’ve read BBC news articles about alleged desecrators of “The Holy Qur’an” and accounts of newspapers that publish blasphemous cartoons of the “Prophet Mohammed”. The Beeb doesn’t refer to “Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ” in any of its publications, does it? What does this tell you about the official institutional religion at the British Broadcasting Corporation?

The mainstream media don’t want you to know it, but the rise of anti-Semitic attacks in Europe is largely an Islamic phenomenon. The vast majority of harassment and attacks against European Jews — probably more than 95% — are committed by culturally enriched “New Europeans” carrying out the scripturally-prescribed actions demanded by their religion.

Raymond Ibrahim lays out some inconvenient truth.
The problem, however, is that mainstream Islam offers a crystal-clear way of life, based on the teachings of the Koran and Hadith—the former, containing what purport to be the sacred words of Allah, the latter, the example (or sunna, hence “Sunnis”) of his prophet, also known as the most “perfect man” (al-insan al-kamil). Indeed, based on these two primary sources and according to normative Islamic teaching, all human actions fall into five categories: forbidden actions, discouraged actions, neutral actions recommended actions, and obligatory actions.
In this context, how does a believer go about “moderating” what the deity and his spokesman have commanded? One can either try to observe Islam’s commandments or one can ignore them: any more or less is not Islam—a word which means “submit” (to the laws, or sharia, of Allah).
The real question, then, is what do Allah and his prophet command Muslims (“they who submit”) to do? Are radicals “exaggerating” their orders? Or are moderate Muslims simply “observing reasonable limits”—a euphemism for negligence?—when it comes to fulfilling their commandments?
In our highly secularized era, where we are told that religious truths are flexible or simply non-existent, and that any and all interpretations and exegeses are valid, the all-important question of “What does Islam command?” loses all relevance.
Hence why the modern West is incapable of understanding Islam.

Hizb ut-Tahrir (“Party of Liberation”) is an international Islamic organization whose goal is the establishment of a worldwide Caliphate. Like the Communist Party, it sees itself is the vanguard of a world revolution that will bring about the dominance of its ideology. As I have pointed out in the past, much of its party program — not to mention its rhetorical style — has been lifted wholesale from venerable tracts of International Socialism.
Hizb ut-Tahrir has been banned in Muslim countries, but thrives in tolerant Western hosts such as Britain, Australia, and Denmark. The HuT march and demonstration shown in the video below took place in Nørrebro, Copenhagen, on Friday March 14th. An estimated 500 participants took part. Men and women were kept separate.

Mark Steyn points out a teensie-weensie double standard.
A couple of days ago, you’ll recall, we featured current controversies over a metal cross retrieved from the rubble at Ground Zero, and a roadside cross marking a fatal accident in Lake Elsinore, California. American Atheists and the American Humanist Association are suing over both outrageous provocations.
On the other hand, as far as I’m aware, American atheists and humanists have no plans to bring any separation-of-church-and-state suits against the City of Minneapolis, for its observance at City Hall last month of “Hijab Day”. Female members of the city council wore the hijab, as did the Chief of Police, Janeé Harteau, a lesbian who recently married her “favorite sergeant”, Holly Keegel. I have no idea what Sgt Keegel wore for Hijab Day. Maybe she went as the Grand Mufti.
Hijab Day grows a little bigger around the world each year. Its purpose is to enable the rest of us to show our support for women who choose to go covered. In reality, for most Muslim women around the world, the choice is made for them – by men. In Afghanistan under the Taliban, women were forbidden by law from ever feeling sunlight on their faces. Maybe most of them would have “chosen” not to feel it anyway, but we’ll never know, will we?

Imagine: You receive an e-mail from the friend of a friend, asking if he might stay with you for a week or so while visiting your town on business. “Of course,” you say, but caution him that your home can be a bit hectic: you have two children and two dogs. Your friend’s friend says he understands, and is grateful for your hospitality.
Now imagine your guest arrives and within days, informs you that his religion precludes him from living with dogs: you will have to remove yours from your home, at least for the duration of his stay. What do you do?
If you’re like most people, most likely you will suggest that he might more comfortable at a hotel. You may offer to ask other friends of yours if he might stay with them. What you are not likely to do is take the dogs to a kennel, or, should he extend his visit, give them away.
On the other hand, you might think, you do not know this man very well. What if he should become violent if you refuse his request? What if he were to hurt the dogs? What would you do then?
This is not entirely a hypothetical situation. Rather, it illustrates the conditions Western countries increasingly confront in the face of growing Muslim immigration, and the pressures democracies face in balancing their ideals of equal rights with often-undemocratic demands of Islamic culture.
Fold in the fact that under his religion, in a rightly-ordered society your position would be about that of a Negro in the Jim Crow South. Enjoy your stay.
