Every few months for the past several years, there’s an “incident” in Iran. A top nuclear scientist disappears. A centrifuge facility catches fire. A ship doesn’t make it to its destination. And the Israelis offer no comment.

At the Holocaust Memorial in Amsterdam, Muslims issued the battle cry, a death threat to the Jews: “Khaybar, Khaybar ya yahud! J’aish Mohammed sa ya’ud!” (Khaybar, Khaybar, oh, Jews! Elsewhere in the Netherlands, Islamist groups flew the flag of the Islamic State, chanting “One state – the Caliphate!,” while in Berlin, demonstrators burned Israeli flags or flew the banners of Hamas.

Indeed, across Europe last weekend, in protests against the latest violence erupting between Palestinian militants and the Israeli military, thousands of Islamist extremists, members of pro-Palestinian groups, far-left activists, and neo-Nazis joined together in calls for the destruction of Israel and the Jews.

The Assad government is bankrupt because of lost Iranian subsidies and the need to concentrate on paying its security forces rather than rebuilding infrastructure to restore electricity and improve the roads damaged and neglected since 2011. As the Assads seek to regain control over more territory, improving standards of living has low priority. The Assads currently rule sixty percent of pre-war territory and an even higher percentage of the population. Unfortunately for Syrians, the Assads are skilled at running a police state, not an economically strong one.

While many Syrians welcomed the return of peace over the last few years, the economic conditions have steadily deteriorated. The government makes an effort to prevent starvation, especially in Damascus, the capital and long a peaceful and prosperous island in a desert of warfare and scarcity. While most of Syria is no longer a warzone, that has turned out to be a liability as well. For example, more European countries agree that parts of Syria are no longer a warzone and have stopped granting asylum to Syrians based on people living in a warzone.

An office building destroyed by Israeli airstrikes on Saturday was reportedly used by the Associated Press and the Islamic terrorist group Hamas. According to national security expert Noah Pollak, the building contained several Hamas facilities, including weapons manufacturing and military intelligence units, and the AP journalists were aware of the terrorist activities.

“Spoke to a well-placed friend in the IDF just now,” Pollak wrote on Twitter. “The bombed AP office building contained multiple Hamas operations & offices including weapons manufacturing and military intelligence. The building also housed an Islamic Jihad office. And AP’s local reporters knew about it.”

Just days before Palestinian terror groups began bombarding Israel with rocket attacks, a leader of Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) said the group’s funding and weapons are provided by Iran.

Ramez al-Halabi, a PIJ official, disclosed his group’s deep ties to the Islamic regime in a May 7 interview on Iraqi television just prior to the bombardment of Israel, part of a deepening conflict that threatens to throw the region into larger war.

“The mujahideen [terrorists] in Gaza and in Lebanon use Iranian weapons to strike the Zionists. We buy our weapons with Iranian money. An important part of our activity is under the supervision of Iranian experts,” al-Halabi said. “The contours of the victories in Palestine as of late were outlined with the blood of [former Iranian military leader] Qassem Soleimani, Iranian blood.” His remarks were translated by the Middle East Media Research Institute, which tracks jihadist activity.

An oil tanker off Syria’s Mediterranean port of Banias has been hit with an explosion Sunday, resulting in a fire on board which was reportedly extinguished soon after.

There were reportedly no casualties, but subsequent photographs showed large plumes of black smoke rising above the tanker, which may have been engaged in offloading its cargo. The ‘mystery’ blast comes after a series of alleged Israeli covert attacks against both Iranian and Syrian ships believed engaged in “sanctions-busting” activity related to Washington-led anti-Assad measures.

A political storm has swept France in recent days. It follows the publication of an open letter by 20 retired generals to Emmanuel Macron. In their declaration, originally published on an obscure website and then reproduced in conservative magazine, Valeurs Actuelles, the officers warned that Islamist terrorism was pushing France towards civil war.

The reaction among the political class was predictable. Marine Le Pen invited the signatories (1,000 in total) to join her National Rally party, while the government condemned the letter as ‘irresponsible’. It promised action if any serving soldiers or gendarmes have put their name to to it.

Some on the left want a criminal investigation launched, accusing those behind the letter of ‘provocation and disobedience’. Jean-Luc Mélenchon, the leader of the far-left France Insoumise, had been particularly outspoken, describing the letter as an ‘insurrection’ that must be punished. This is the same Jean-Luc Mélenchon who in 2018 at the height of the Yellow Vest protests tweeted:

‘The Revolutionary Constitution of 1793 states that insurrection was a right. And even a duty. Such is the temperament of the French people.’

On a sweltering day in July 2018, German police pulled over a scarlet Ford S-Max hire car that was traveling at speed towards Austria. The driver, Assadollah Assadi, the third secretary to the Iranian embassy in Vienna, was arrested at gunpoint and taken into custody.

Eight law enforcement officials, including three policemen and five members of a local anti-jihadist force, were killed in a jihadist attack in Burkina Faso on Tuesday. Jihadist raids on two military bases in Somalia, using suicide car bombers, killed 23 on Saturday. The global ramifications of the snowballing jihadist insurgency in the continent can be gauged by French energy firm Total withdrawing its staff from Mozambique; the thwarting of UNICEF and the World Health Organization’s COVID-19 vaccination efforts in Somalia; or the Joe Biden regime reaffirming its presence in Burkina Faso and other Sahel states to ‘prevent attacks on US soil’.

Samuel Paty was decapitated on Oct. 16, 2020, outside the middle school in a north Paris suburb where he had taught history and civics for five years. The murderer, a radical Islamist terrorist, acted because Paty had supposedly shown his class images of the Prophet Mohammed from the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo in a lesson on free expression in France.

The magazine was the target of a high-profile Islamist terrorist attack back in January 2015 that spurred a month’s long wave of jihadi violence across the country.

The government denied any connection with a bombing that occurred January 29 th near the Israeli embassy in Delhi (the Indian capital). Iran has been using this denial tactic for decades. In the case of the Delhi bombing Iran may well have not been directly responsible, but the denial was seen as normal for Iran. These denials are still effective at slowing down sanctions or designation as an international terrorist. What Iran is admitting or claiming is progress in developing nuclear weapons. The purpose of all these attacks and threats is to persuade Western nations to lift sanctions on Iran. Iran appears confident that this is working because they are illegally exporting more oil to India and China. This is risky because the tankers carrying these shipments can be intercepted and seized. As soon as the new American government took power in January Iran told current and past customers for discounted smuggled oil that Iranian oil would be more easily available in 2021, either free of sanctions or less vigorously enforced sanctions. Iran was betting that the new U.S. government would ease off on the oil export sanctions. So far this has not happened but the Iranian leaders insist it will happen and soon.

Voters in Switzerland approved a ban on non-medical face coverings in all public areas by a thin 51%-49% margin Sunday.

The new ban will include religious attire such as burqas and niqabs worn by Muslim women, and face coverings worn by protesters like ski masks and bandannas to conceal their identity, according to the Associated Press. Authorities will now have two years to write specific legislation following the referendum.
