Eight law enforcement officials, including three policemen and five members of a local anti-jihadist force, were killed in a jihadist attack in Burkina Faso on Tuesday. Jihadist raids on two military bases in Somalia, using suicide car bombers, killed 23 on Saturday. On Friday, South Africa decided to deploy its troops in bordering Mozambique, days after Islamist militants took over the town of Palma, killing dozens of locals and forcing thousands to flee.

The past week is only a sample of the jihadist peril currently engulfing Africa. These terror attacks reaffirm the growing strength of the world’s deadliest jihadist groups, including al-Shabaab, Isis, al-Qaeda, Boko Haram and their affiliates. The global ramifications of the snowballing jihadist insurgency in the continent can be gauged by French energy firm Total withdrawing its staff from Mozambique; the thwarting of UNICEF and the World Health Organization’s COVID-19 vaccination efforts in Somalia; or the Joe Biden regime reaffirming its presence in Burkina Faso and other Sahel states to ‘prevent attacks on US soil’.

Samuel Paty was decapitated on Oct. 16, 2020, outside the middle school in a north Paris suburb where he had taught history and civics for five years. The government denied any connection with a bombing that occurred January 29 th near the Israeli embassy in Delhi (the Indian capital). Iran has been using this denial tactic for decades. In the case of the Delhi bombing Iran may well have not been directly responsible, but the denial was seen as normal for Iran. These denials are still effective at slowing down sanctions or designation as an international terrorist. What Iran is admitting or claiming is progress in developing nuclear weapons. The purpose of all these attacks and threats is to persuade Western nations to lift sanctions on Iran. Iran appears confident that this is working because they are illegally exporting more oil to India and China. This is risky because the tankers carrying these shipments can be intercepted and seized. As soon as the new American government took power in January Iran told current and past customers for discounted smuggled oil that Iranian oil would be more easily available in 2021, either free of sanctions or less vigorously enforced sanctions. Iran was betting that the new U.S. government would ease off on the oil export sanctions. So far this has not happened but the Iranian leaders insist it will happen and soon.

Voters in Switzerland approved a ban on non-medical face coverings in all public areas by a thin 51%-49% margin Sunday.

The new ban will include religious attire such as burqas and niqabs worn by Muslim women, and face coverings worn by protesters like ski masks and bandannas to conceal their identity, according to the Associated Press. Authorities will now have two years to write specific legislation following the referendum.

Amid rising regional tensions, Iran continues to seek ways to target Israel and the United States abroad.

Iran deployed several agents to collect intelligence on the diplomatic missions of Israel, the U.S., and United Arab Emirates (UAE) in an undisclosed East African country ahead of a potential attack, Israel’s Kan News reported on Monday, based on insight from Western intelligence sources. The attack was foiled last month.

The report claimed that Iran sought to target the embassies in response to the January 2020 U.S. strike that killed Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commander Qassem Soleimani and November’s targeted assassination of senior nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, which was widely attributed to Israel.

Iran has previously threatened the UAE directly and condemned the Gulf state for normalizing diplomatic relations with Israel last summer.

A 26-year-old Chicago man is reportedly facing charges after allegedly scheming with his older brother, who worked as a U.S. postal worker, to steal and sell COVID-19 stimulus checks.

Iran accused Israel and the U.S. of organizing the assassination of one of its top nuclear scientists on Friday and vowed revenge, sharply escalating tensions in the Persian Gulf in the final weeks of Donald Trump’s presidency. Mohsen Fakhrizadeh was the head of research and innovation at Iran’s Ministry of Defense, and was also viewed internationall as the head of Iran’s nuclear weapons program. He was killed close to the Damavand campus of Islamic Azad University, about 60 kilometers east of central Tehran, Iran’s Tasnim news reported.

“Terrorists murdered an eminent Iranian scientist today. This cowardice—with serious indications of Israeli role—shows desperate warmongering of perpetrators,” Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said in a tweet. Iran’s army also accused the U.S. of bearing responsibility. Curiously, Trump retweeted a New York Times report on Fakhrizadeh’s killing without commenting.

While the army is finding and attacking Boko Haram bases in the north, the Islamic terrorists continue disrupting commerce in Borno state by attacking road traffic and occasionally even army bases. The army has set up a convoy system and even these escorted convoys are attacked. Boko Haram continues to raid rural towns and villages for supplies and prisoners. The captured civilians are either convinced (if they are teenage boys) to join the fight or used as slaves. Prisoners from families with money can be ransomed. The threat of attacks on civilians keeps the northern half of Borno state a chaotic combat zone. Since 2009, when Boko Haram turned violent, the Islamic terrorist violence, largely in Borno state, has left 30,000 dead and nearly three million people driven from their homes. The economy in the northern half of Borno state was devastated and continued Boko Haram violence has crippled efforts to revive the economy.

Police in Austria arrested an Afghan man suspected of attacking a nun amid a series of other incidents targeting Christians in Europe, Catholic News Agency reported.

The 19-year-old Afghan-born man allegedly hit the 76-year-old nun in the face while she was on a bus in Graz on Saturday before fleeing, according to CNA.

Police reviewed video footage from the bus, which led them to the suspect who had prior drug and assault offenses. Police say his motive remains unclear, according to CNA.

Yah – ‘motive remains unclear’. They’d have said the same if he had actually shouted ‘Allahu akbar!’

Iran was recently found equipping their UAVS with aircraft engines built for hobbyist remote control aircraft. The UN has been studying the wreckage of many of these Iranian UAVs employed as weapons and an examination of the key components revealed many items that are not banned from going to Iran because these items are widely used in civilian products. Iran was still careful, because there is not a lot of demand for these small hobby engines in Iran. Any unusual quantity of these engines sold to Iran would be noted. To avoid discovery Iran had these engines, mainly models made in Germany or China, sold to a middleman in a third country and then those engines could be diverted to Iran and smuggled in. At that point Iran can smuggle the engines, and other forbidden components to pro-Iran groups that will use assemble the Iranian designed UAVs with the help of Iranian advisors for use as weapons or just reconnaissance.

The elderly victim that was “virtually beheaded” had come to pray at or near the Notre-Dame basilica in Nice, BBC reported. Two of the people who died were killed inside the church, and a woman was able to flee to a nearby cafe after being stabbed several times before dying later that day. One of the victims is believed to be the church warden, Nice Mayor Christian Estrosi said, according to Reuters.
