Afghan national Gholan Ruhani maintained his innocence after coalition forces captured him alongside a drug-trafficking militia commander and tossed him in the military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Ruhani, represented by white shoe lawyer Rebecca Dick, said he was “a simple shopkeeper who helped Americans.”

Not quite. Days ago, Al Jazeera news captured Ruhani with fellow Taliban militants in the presidential palace in Kabul, as they announced the formation of an Islamic emirate. Ruhani, who cradled a machine gun, recited from the Quran and spoke of his time at Guantanamo.

Dick, then a top-flight attorney at Dechert LLP, represented Ruhani and advocated for his repatriation to Afghanistan. She said in a 2008 interview that her clients were not extremists.

“None expresses any interest in harming the U.S.,” she said. “Most affirmatively express support for the Karzai government; the others simply do not want to think about or discuss politics.”

It comes as no surprise that Muslims lie, nor that dimwitted Americans buy their bullshit.

French troops have evacuated nearly 400 people, including French civilians and Afghans who helped the country’s military, from the capital city of Kabul, which the Taliban captured on Sunday. The French special forces have rescued civilians outside of Kabul’s Hamid Karzai International Airport, which has been the site of the United States’ chaotic evacuation efforts, according to Military Times.

A group of senators led by Republican Marco Rubio of Florida is demanding answers to Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, writing in a letter: “As we watched the images coming out of Afghanistan as the Taliban retook the country, we were horrified to see U.S. equipment – including UH-60 Black Hawks – in the hands of the Taliban.”

It’s being widely estimated that the Taliban now has “billions of dollars in US weaponry” under their control amid that lighting fast collapse of the US-backed national government on Sunday into Monday. The Pentagon is still assessing, but what is known is that Black Hawk helicopters as well as A-29 Super Tucano attack aircraft.

Taliban fighters seized U.S. military equipment as they conquered Afghanistan, including millions of dollars’ worth of drones, according to photos released by the militant group.

Images taken by the Taliban’s media studio last week show abandoned U.S. military vehicles captured by the Taliban, such as Humvees and armored MRAP personnel carriers. The fighters also secured several Boeing ScanEagle drones, unmanned aerial vehicles used for reconnaissance.

At least three people were killed and more than a dozen injured after Taliban militants opened fire during protests against the group in the Afghan city of Jalalabad on Wednesday, two witnesses told Reuters.

The witnesses said the deaths followed an attempt by local residents to install Afghanistan‘s national flag at a square in the city, some 150 km (90 miles) to the east of Kabul.

We have noted that U.S. officials estimate there are somewhere between 5,000 and 10,000 Americans still in Afghanistan, and they do not know where those individuals are. Steve has pointed out the obvious potential for a mass hostage situation if the Taliban simply refuses to permit Americans and other Westerners to get to the Kabul airport.

Amplifying that story, earlier today both Jake Sullivan and Jen Psaki declined to offer any assurance that all Americans will be successfully extracted from Afghanistan. The fact is that the fate of Americans stranded in that country is out of our control. For now, the Taliban is taking the position that as long as foreigners are leaving, they will not interfere with them.

When President Barack Obama released five Taliban commanders from the Guantanamo Bay prison in exchange for an American deserter in 2014, he assured a wary public that the dangerous enemy combatants would be transferred to Qatar and kept from causing any trouble in Afghanistan.

In fact, they were left free to engineer Sunday’s sacking of Kabul.

Soon after gaining their freedom, some of the notorious Taliban Five pledged to return to fight Americans in Afghanistan and made contacts with active Taliban militants there. But the Obama-Biden administration turned a blind eye to the disturbing intelligence reports, and it wasn’t long before the freed detainees used Qatar as a base to form a regime in exile.

Eventually, they were recognized by Western diplomats as official representatives of the Taliban during recent “peace” talks.

The Islamists now control 65% of Afghanistan and have taken or threaten to take 11 provincial capitals, a senior EU official said on Tuesday. Faizabad, in the northeastern province of Badakhshan, on Wednesday became the eighth provincial capital to be seized by the Taliban.

All gateways to Kabul, which lies in a valley surrounded by mountains, were choked with civilians entering the city and fleeing violence elsewhere, a Western security source there told Reuters. This made it hard to tell whether Taliban fighters were also getting through, the source said.

Salafist jihadist terrorist groups on Aug. 5 detonated an explosive device outside the Bianco Resort. The groups had warned the resort’s owner that they would take retribution for the hotel’s hosting of a mixed-sex concert. No one was injured, but the attack damaged a wall.

“Today we went to Bianco Resort in order to deny the evil before it happened, as this resort will hold a mixed singing party on the beach of Beit Lahiya,” terrorist member Issa Miqdad wrote on Facebook on the day of the attack.

Hussein’s family live in Pakistan and say she was a “very nice, kind, polite person who worked hard every day to support us all.” Neighbours report hearing her screams and ingeniously using a wet duvet on her burns. he Taliban tightened the noose around northern Afghanistan Sunday, capturing three more provincial capitals as they take their fight to the cities after seizing much of the countryside in recent months.

The insurgents have snatched up five provincial capitals in Afghanistan since Friday in a lightning offensive that appears to have overwhelmed government forces.

Zaranj, the capital city of Nimruz province which lies in the southwest near the border with Iran, and with a population of an estimated 160,000, was taken by the Taliban on Friday, according to The Washington Post. A statement by Nimroz’s police force described the Taliban rapidly and easily captured the city due to “a lack of reinforcements from the government.” And The New York Times is also calling it a significant “symbolic victory” wherein the advancing Islamists “faced little resistance”. Some reports are suggesting not so much as a single shot was fired.

He is out of jail again, the Dutch-Moroccan terror suspect Samir Azzouz, who has been repeatedly arrested, acquitted, rearrested, convicted, imprisoned, and released since he was first caught on a train to Chechnya in 2003. Then 17, he was planning to join the jihad against Russian forces. In the time since, he has been charged with plotting a terrorist attack on the Dutch Parliament and Schiphol airport; amassing materials to make a bomb; possession of illegal weapons; and membership in a terror cell, for which he was sentenced to eight years in 2006 and an additional nine years in 2008 – only to be released in 2013, not having fully served even the initial sentence.

Azzouz was arrested again in June, this time on charges of raising funds to free former ISIS members – now being held in Kurdish-run prison camps in Syria. A month later, a court set him free to await his December trial.

Kurt Westergaard was a renowned Danish cartoonist who drew the world’s most iconic Mohammed cartoon, the “Turban Bomb”. Mr. Westergaard was a target for mujahideen for the last sixteen years of his life, and had to live in hiding under the protection of the PET, the Danish Security and Intelligence Service.

Now it has emerged that Mr. Westergaard is being harassed by culture-enrichers even after his death. He died on July 14, but his death wasn’t announced until four days later, after the funeral. The location of his grave is a secret, because it is thought that Muslims would vandalize it if they were to find out where it is. Even the owner of the gallery where his work is displayed does not know where it is.

Two rockets launched from Lebanon on Wednesday struck Israel, which responded with several rounds of artillery fire amid heightened regional tensions over an alleged Iranian attack on an oil tanker in the Gulf last week.

The Panama-flagged Asphalt Princess was temporarily hijacked on Tuesday when it was roughly halfway between Iran and the United Arab Emirates in the Gulf of Oman, according to a Gulf government official. Armed men boarded the vessel and then left around midnight local time, the official said. Bloomberg was unable to contact the ship’s Dubai-based owner or operator to confirm the information.

Israel said it had given allies “hard evidence” that Iran was behind last week’s deadly attack on a tanker in the Gulf of Oman, as the U.K. Navy on Tuesday reported another shipping “incident” in the same area of water without giving further details.

Tensions have escalated in the narrow shipping lanes of the Persian Gulf since Thursday’s drone attack on an Israeli-managed tanker. The U.S. has vowed an “appropriate response” along with its allies after two crew members — a Briton and a Romanian — were killed. Tehran has denied involvement.

“No one has any doubt who is behind the incident, but we supplied hard evidence for good measure,” Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said. Israel is seeking international support for a concerted response to the attack, but it “also knows how to act on its own,” he added.

A powerful blast followed by sporadic gunfire hit Afghanistan’s capital Kabul on Tuesday near the city’s heavily fortified “Green Zone,” an area home to government buildings and foreign embassies, police officials said.

At least three people were killed and seven wounded, said Ghulam Dastagir Nazari, a health ministry spokesperson, adding that clashes were continuing.

A senior security official said the blast appeared to have been caused by a car bomb and the apparent target was the residence of a member of parliament.

The United States and the United Kingdom joined Israel on Sunday in alleging Iran carried out a fatal drone strike on an oil tanker off the coast of Oman in the Arabian Sea, putting further pressure on Tehran as it denied being involved in the assault.

Calling it a “unlawful and callous attack,” British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said his country and its allies planned a coordinated response over the strike Thursday night on the oil tanker Mercer Street. U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken soon followed, saying there was “no justification for this attack, which follows a pattern of attacks and other belligerent behavior.”

The FBI’s Oct. 7, 2020 report, which was seen by Reuters this week, estimates around 552 tonnes of ammonium nitrate exploded that day, much less than the 2,754 tonnes that arrived on a Russian-leased cargo ship in 2013.

The FBI report does not give any explanation as to how the discrepancy arose, or where the rest of the shipment may have gone.
