Senator Elizabeth Warren recently stated that rising prices were due to corporations increasing their profits.
“This isn’t about inflation, this is about price gouging for these guys”.
It is simply incorrect.
No, corporations have not doubled their profits, and rising prices are not due to the evil doings of businesses. If evil corporations are to blame for rising prices in 2021, as Elizabeth Warren says, I imagine that they were magnanimous and generous corporations when there was low or no inflation, right?
Inflation is the tax of the poor.
It destroys the purchasing power of wages and engulfs the little savings that workers accumulate. The rich can protect themselves by investing in real assets, real estate and financial, the poor cannot.
Inflation is not a coincidence, it is a policy.
Elizabeth Warren is not an economist, she is a law professor. (And not even a good law professor, despite her being an affirmative-action hire at Harvard.) She has demonstrated that she knows nothing about economics beyond her socialist ideology and her proglodyte puritanism.

I think we can now confidently declare that Yale is the most disgraceful major university in America. On top of the shameful behavior of Yale Law’s Stasi-like diversicrats in the now famous “Trap House” student email, we have recently learned of the fuss about a lecture from Dr. Sally Satel to Yale’s School of Medicine several months ago, based on her extended time living in Ohio and studying the opioid crisis up close. (Sally was a guest on our podcast two years ago discussing her upcoming project. It should be noted that she’s been a long-time lecturer at the Yale Psychiatry department, and has also worked extensively at drug treatment clinics.)
Sally has long been a critic of how political correctness has been corrupting medicine, such as in her book PC MD. She’s also disputed the ubiquitous claims that disparate health outcomes among the races are the result of racism, in The Health Disparities Myth (co-authored with Jonathan Klick).
To paraphrase the old internet clickbait cliche, you’ll totally believe what happened next (because it is so predictable): A “concerned group of Yale Psychiatry residents” issued a letter of complaint.

The Other McCain is delightfully dyspeptic today.
One of the wonderful things about the Biden presidency is that, when things go wrong, Democrats can no longer blame Trump — and a whole lot of stuff is going wrong now. We are at the stage of events famously referenced by H.L. Mencken: “Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard.”

The Northern Hemisphere winter is just 12 days away, and some Americans have already packed their bags and headed to the sandy beaches of Cancun to escape cold weather. Vacationers this year have to be on guard amid a spate of shootings that have turned the area into a tropical warzone.
The latest incident occurred Tuesday outside the four-star Oasis Palm resort in Cancun. According to NBC News, a group of gunmen pulled up on jet skis and began shooting in the hotel zone.

CNN does its job as the DNC press office.
One Republican, Rep. Adam Kinzinger of Illinois, voted with all the Democrats for the bill.
One RINO allows fhem to claim it was ‘bipartisan’. The fact that no real Republicans voted for it, even under Fascist Joe Biden, indicates that it doesn’t really address ‘abuses of power’ by a President.
The bill, which has support from the White House, aims to strengthen guardrails that were tested by former President Donald Trump, including limitation on presidential pardons, the requirement for candidates for president and vice president to submit their personal tax returns for 10 years, and the acceptance of any foreign or domestic emoluments.
In other words, it’s an anti-Trump bill, aimed at things he did that the Never Trumpers particularly hated. Hence the virtue-signal name.

The Biden administration plans to push the Supreme Court to dismiss a school-voucher case on a technicality, fearing that a ruling that allows state funds to go toward religious uses will throw open public coffers to religious schools.
The Biden Justice Department during oral arguments on Wednesday will press the Court to dismiss the case. The plaintiffs have a leg up heading into the argument because the Court said in decisions from 2017 and 2020 that religious groups can’t be excluded from public benefits because of their religious identity.

Democrats have painted themselves into a corner on the number one issue of the day, crime. They tolerated and in many cases glorified the George Floyd riots as legitimate protests against oppression. They sympathized with criminals rather than law enforcement, arguing that America doesn’t have a crime problem, it has a law enforcement problem. They attacked law enforcement at every turn, actively trying to defund the police in some jurisdictions. And Democratic Party legislators and prosecutors effectively legalized theft in some cities and states.
To no sane person’s surprise, both violent and less-violent crime have exploded. Riots, arson, assault, homicide, carjacking, have all skyrocketed. And criminal gangs have taken advantage of the moratorium on law enforcement in a number of cities by organizing the mass looting of stores like Walgreen’s, Best Buy, Nordstrom, Apple, and so on.

s has been widely reported in the last few days, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has publicly called for the repeal of the Nuremberg Code (Mark Steyn’s commentary on the topic is particularly trenchant).
The Code was established after World War Two to address the issue of medical experiments conducted on human beings without their consent. It has been violated by Western countries in the years since, notably by the CIA with its MKUltra program, but that was secret and unofficial — no country has so far publicly abrogated the Nuremberg Code.
Ms. Von der Leyen appears to be on the verge of changing all that by making the Corona “vaccine” mandatory for all citizens of the European Union. She acknowledges that her proposal requires the abolition of the Nuremberg Code, which, if it happens, will indeed be an historic moment.
All right, so her husband is in the vaccine biz, and she’s pals with Albert Bourla, the CEO of Pfizer. So what? What does any of that matter, when we could be saving lives by forcibly injecting millions of people? Just think of the puir wee bairns!

Minneapolis’s Uptown district is two miles or so south of downtown; its center is the intersection of Hennepin Avenue and Lake Street. Until recently, it was one of the city’s principal entertainment and dining centers. No longer. The George Floyd riots, followed by Winston Boogie Smith riots and a persistent spike in both violent crime and property crime, have devastated the area. I don’t know who goes near Uptown now; I once lived nearby but wouldn’t dream of going there now.
…
When criminals rule the streets, normal people stay away. That is the situation today in Minneapolis. The city’s depleted police force, under attack by anti-law enforcement Black Lives Matter ideology and thus ravaged by retirements, disability claims and difficulty in recruiting, can’t begin to cope with unprecedented levels of crime and disorder.

Americans have not ended democracy as such. We have instead allowed powerful persons and institutions to simply ignore it. The FBI, EPA, Twitter, universities, large corporations, and your local county school board increasingly follow their own ideological ends even if (or maybe especially if) it contradicts popular will and culture. The tiresome and obligatory comparisons to the fall of the Roman Empire miss the mark in many ways. Perhaps the better comparison is to Florence under the Medicis.

With a loss of health care workers from stress, burnout, and vaccine mandates, hospitals are scrambling to keep beds open and retain licensed health professionals.
Unfortunately, national professional associations are threatening licensed health professionals with disciplinary action or loss of licensure for questioning recommendations from government agencies, especially the Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
A recent position statement released by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing and supported by seven other major nursing associations and organizations is a symptom of a new virus— intellectual conformity.

ZMan does some analysis.
One of the distinguishing features of authoritarian societies is the language becomes lifeless and dull. At the same time, the public space is filled with the language of the authoritarian ruling system. The people at the top give long arid speeches and their propaganda organs fill the spaces in between with official noise. Fidel Castro would give speeches that lasted half a day. Stalin would deliver long harangues to the Party Congress for no other reason than to fill the room with words.
In America, this started to creep in after the Cold War. Bill Clinton would give long speeches that were cognitively meaningless. The word “emote” came into common usage at this time as his speeches were like the “feelies” in the Huxley novel Brave New World. They were not intended to stimulate your mind, but rather to anesthetize it so you could experience the raw emotion being conveyed. His most memorable words are those from his rare confessions of guilt.
Obama took it further by delivering nonsense speeches that were not just devoid of meaning, but an assault on the concept of meaning. His language was an assault on the mind, an effort to destroy reason. Instead, the listener was supposed to abandon his senses and float along on the warm thermals of passive happiness. His fans swore he was a great speaker, but they never quoted him. To quote the great man would invite questioning the great man and that was not permitted.

Plastics, part of modern life, are useful but can pose a significant challenge to the environment and may also constitute a health concern. Indeed, exposure to plastic-associated chemicals, such as base chemical bisphenol A and phthalate plasticizers, can increase the risk of human cardiovascular disease. What underlying mechanisms cause this, however, remain elusive.
A team led by Changcheng Zhou, a biomedical scientist at the University of California, Riverside, now raises the hopes of solving the mystery. In a mouse study, the researchers found a phthalate — a chemical used to make plastics more durable — led to increased plasma cholesterol levels.

Texas’ Land Commissioner George P. Bush, the grandson of former president George H. W. Bush, announced on Monday that the state’s General Land Office (GLO) had reached an agreement with the Department of Public Safety (DPS) to build Republican Governor Greg Abbott’s border wall.
A release announcing the agreement said construction of the wall would begin in Starr County, an area that sits along a portion of the border near the southern tip of Texas. The land being utilized for this portion of the wall is a farm tract owned by the GLO, the release said.

ZMan does some analogizing.
Minority rule is one of those things that on the surface should be rare but is actually quite common in human history. The most common form of minority rule is when one people conquer another and then install their people as rulers. This small ruling class is backed by the conquering power. In the Bronze Age it was not unusual for one city-state to rule over the surrounding city-states. The great leader would rule not only his own people but the people he subjugated.
In medieval times, the family trees of ruling elites were often quite complicated so the duke of some territory might not speak the language of the people over whom he was the ruler. Conquest also played a role. The Normans who were “invited” to conquer Britain did not speak the local language. People were tied to the land, so when a successful ruler conquered new lands, he inherited the people. His descendants would then inherit a kingdom of strangers.
Ruling classes, in general, are a form of minority rule. In South America, most of the countries are controlled by a relatively small number of families that make up the ruling elite of the country. These families trace their origins to Europe, marry amongst each other and keep a tight grip on power. It is why the complexion of the political elite rarely has the same hue as the general public. This demographic realty of ruling elites is true to some degree everywhere in the world.

Both climate change hysteria and Covid hysteria are based on two things, and in neither case except by the most inaccurate understanding of the word can these things be described as science.
The ‘science’ foundation for both is actually computer modelling. Computer modelling is a modern form of fortune telling. It can probably get fairly accurate results in a very short time span with very few variables and many historical examples to feed into the analysis. I’ll give it that much.
If you want to know how a crowd of people fleeing a fire are likely to react in a small building, it can probably do the job for you. With about the same accuracy as a human fireman (sorry, fire fighter) who has been in the job more than three weeks.
The map is not the territory.

I have lived in the Twin Cities metropolitan area since 1974, roughly half that time in the city of Minneapolis and half the time in the suburbs. As everyone knows, Minneapolis is in a steep decline due to out of control crime that began with the George Floyd riots. How bad is it?
I don’t ever recall hearing the word “carjacking” in connection with the Twin Cities until 2020, when such crimes exploded, and carjackings in Minneapolis have again risen steeply in 2021. Minneapolis resident Steve Taylor created this map on Maps.co. The yellow pins indicate carjackings in 2020, while the red pins show carjackings in 2021.

Bhutia Busty is said to house the original manuscript of the Bardo Thodol or The Tibetan Book of the Dead, a Buddhist teaching composed in the eighth century by Guru Rinpoche, the Indian saint who brought Buddhism to Tibet. A kind of pilgrim’s guidebook, the teaching is intended to help the dead navigate the “bardo” after-death journey to rebirth and has enjoyed great popularity in the West since it first appeared in English translation in 1927.

That essential discipline was ditched in the 20th century as part of “architectural education”, because it did not fit in with the nihilism of Modernism’s total rejection of the past. The dismal results can be seen on all sides. Students nowadays have virtually no feeling for how buildings are put together, or how ornament (a dirty word today) was once an integral part of architecture rather than plonked on as an afterthought. They simply do not understand the importance of context (another dirty word, as Modernism demands the tabula rasa).

If you went up to any random group of people and mentioned that behind their seemingly normal elementary school was a tale of Prussian Kings, Rockefeller interests, and theories of social control, they would surely look at you as if you were crazy. Well shame on him for not knowing his history! The number of people who have gone through school and yet remain willfully ignorant of how and why they were ushered for years through the system is a glowing testament to the effects of school itself: School works to actively neuter curiosity, impair intellect, halt questioning of the status quo, and restrict deviance form approved norms. Despite what you are instructed to believe, schools harm kids, they do not help them. This is a bold claim, I know, and that is why I have littered the history and analysis below with primary source references and quotations from the men (and they were mostly men) behind our current system of public schooling – their own words are damning enough. For longer and fuller critiques on schooling and its history I would lead the reader to the works of John Gatto, Ivan Illich, Diane Ravitch, and others whom I have relied heavily upon in creating this post. This is certainly a longer-form piece, but I found the extension was necessary to even begin to approach a complete picture of the true behemoth system of schooling we have.

Reporter Dennis Wagner wrote: “Weaponizing of vehicles is a practice sometimes used by terrorists abroad. But the wanton attacks have also surged in the United States. The increase began after the police murder of George Floyd prompted Black Lives Matter demonstrations, which in turn prompted angry or fearful motorists to run over protesters.”
This framing makes it sound like protesters are “peaceful” and not “angry” and pose no threat. Wagner added “A Boston Globe survey identified at least 139 incidents in which vehicles ran into crowds of demonstrators since Floyd’s death in May 2020. Fewer than half resulted in criminal charges.”
Really? The original Globe story appeared on Halloween, by reporter Jess Bidgood, who sounds more like an opinion writer. She began with the usual sympathetic figure, a man who was paralyzed after falling off an interstate overpass while blocking drivers in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Bidgood was outraged no one was arrested, despite admitting that the red pickup involved felt threatened as “protesters banged on its hood and threw things at the vehicle as it moved in.”

California malls are resorting to barbed-wire barriers after a string of flash-mob smash-and-grab lootings. Previously on “California Voters Are Stupid,” we saw California voters approve propositions to release thousands of criminals from jail and reduce retail theft under $950 to a misdemeanor. (So, basically, the Waukesha mass murderer could have made bail by stealing a couple of TVs from Best Buy without adding to his existing criminal charges.) Then, to compound their stupidity, they elected radical-left district attorneys who think crime is just a symptom of poverty and therefore refuse to prosecute criminals because it’s mean to poor people or something.
You have to be deeply, deeply Californian not to understand how releasing criminals from prison while simultaneously defunding the police will lead to an increase in crime. Retail store owners are running out of options. The police won’t arrest what the DAs won’t prosecute, and the criminal class knows this and knows it can loot stores at will with little chance of being caught and less chance of being prosecuted. (Also, the political class wants you to know you shouldn’t call it “looting” because “Looting is a term that we typically use when people of color or urban dwellers are doing something.”) So, now they have to barricade their stores and homes with barbed wire and layers of security, which also happens to be a common practice in many of the countries where California’s immigrant populations originated. But that’s only because the governments in those countries are corrupt, and the police cannot be relied upon to protect the citizenry.
