The Left is nothing if not persistent.
While Congress has been exhaustively debating the tax cut and spending details of President Donald Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill,” Senator Bernie Sanders, Vermont’s independent socialist, and his House Democratic allies are again honing their comprehensive health policy agenda: the abolition of all Americans’ private and employer-sponsored health insurance and the creation of a “single payer” system of government-run national health insurance.
Along with Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.) and Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-Mich.), Sanders recently reintroduced the Senate and House versions of the “Medicare for All Act of 2025.” The legislation has attracted 16 cosponsors in the Senate and 104 cosponsors in the House—almost half of the entire House Democratic caucus.
As noted in analyses of earlier versions of the House and Senate legislation, it would create a government monopoly over the financing and delivery of American health care. Under this system, one would have no alternative to the government health plan, creating a “No Choice, No Exit” scenario.

On Tuesday, May 27th, a 73-year-old Bavarian pensioner was notified that he was to start his 75-day prison sentence by June 5th. His crime? Two posts on X in which he used the phrase “Alles für Deutschland” (“Everything for Germany”), a slogan often associated with the SA, a paramilitary organisation of the Nazi party some 90 years ago. The elderly man was first sentenced to a fine, which he did not pay, claiming he did not have the financial means to do so.
Germany’s speech police is now cracking down on ordinary citizens, after primarily targeting the politicians of Alternative für Deutschland (AfD), currently the most popular party in the country. One of the most recent cases was that of David Bendels, editor-in-chief for the AfD-affiliated Deutschland Kurier, who received a seven-month suspended sentence for “abuse, slander or defamation against persons in political life.” The offence? Bendels had edited and posted a meme of then interior minister Nancy Faeser, which pictured her holding a sign saying “I hate freedom of opinion.”
As a February report by the MCC Brussels think tank revealed, Germany’s expansive hate speech and defamation laws were being used in particular ahead of the parliamentary elections to target political opponents. Section 188 of the German Criminal Code has led to police searches and criminal penalties for citizens who insult politicians online, including a raid on a retired man’s home for sharing a post critical of a government minister, the fining of a pensioner €800 for a joke referencing a politician’s personal life, and a citizen being sentenced to prison for sending an angry email to a prime minister.

Anti-antisemitism campaigner Mark Birbeck has been scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, May 28th. Along with Niyak Ghorbanii, he was arrested on September 7th, 2024, after the duo displayed a banner declaring ‘Hamas is Terrorist’ during a London ‘pro-Palestine’ solidarity march.
Additional charges include two counts of ‘assaulting emergency workers’–incidents that the Metropolitan Police claim occurred while Birbeck was being handcuffed, after his truthful declaration against the proscribed organisation.
The pair’s supporters state:
On September 7th, 2024, Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC) once more marched through London, and again Niyak Ghorbani and Mark Birbeck challenged the march to ensure Hamas was not airbrushed from the story. But the Met police decided that declaring ‘Hamas are Terrorists’ … was a step too far and arrested both Mark and Niyak.
Legal support from the Campaign Against Antisemitism (CAA) is assisting them in their challenge to restrictive bail conditions. Further donations to help with legal fees can be sent here.
The charges are part of a wider pattern of British police going after opponents of Hamas and Hezbollah who assert their right to protest against the terror groups and their supporters.

As Americans began to prepare for Memorial Day weekend, the Supreme Court quietly handed President Donald Trump a significant victory in the fight to rein in the rogue D.C. bureaucracy.
In a short, two-page order, the court stayed a district court order that directed Trump to reinstate two federal officials whom he had fired.
Chief Justice John Roberts and Justices Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett voted for the stay. Justices Elena Kagan, Sonia Sotomayor, and Ketanji Brown Jackson dissented.
The obvious effect is that the two officials—Gwynne Wilcox and Cathy Harris, whom Trump removed from the National Labor Relations Board and the Merit Systems Protection Board, respectively—cannot retake their positions in either agency unless they win their lawsuits.
The implications, however, are far more sweeping.

South African EFF leader Julius Malema ended yet another speech on Saturday by calling for more genocide against white South Africans.
Malema once again broke into the exact same song/chant that President Trump confronted the South African President with footage of last week.
“Shoot to kill, Nyamazana!” Malema chanted, adding “Kill the Boer, the farmer!”
Julius Malema’s signature song is titled “Bring Me My Machine Gun“.

An elite public high school in northern Virginia handed over its world-class STEM curriculum to Chinese Communist Party apparatchiks at the same time the groups donated $3.6 million to the school’s affiliated charity. That charity should be stripped of its tax privileges and forced to pay a hefty price to the IRS for facilitating the information exchange, a watchdog organization charged in a complaint filed Tuesday.
Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology was consistently ranked the nation’s top public high school when it provided its academic blueprints to a trio of CCP-linked organizations, which used the documents to launch at least 20 copy-cat “Thomas Schools” that operate today in China. From 2014 through 2021, those same China-affiliated organizations transferred $3.6 million to the Thomas Jefferson Partnership Fund, the school’s affiliate charity which operates out of its Fairfax County building. The Partnership Fund described the payments as charitable contributions in its reports to the IRS in what the watchdog group Defending Education alleges is a clear violation of federal tax law.
In its IRS complaint, Defending Education alleged the payments the Partnership Fund received from the CCP-linked groups were hardly charitable contributions, but rather payments in return for Thomas Jefferson High School’s academic blueprints. But the selling of an elite American high school’s playbook to organizations associated with a foreign adversary is “completely unrelated” to any valid charitable purpose listed in the federal tax code, Defending Education stated in the complaint.

Germans have had enough of one bad government after another, and most are now looking to escape—not just from Germany, but from the entire EU.
According to a new YouGov poll published a few days ago, 31% of Germans would “definitely” emigrate if work, financial, or personal factors didn’t stand in their way. Another 27% said they would likely or very likely leave as well, while only 37% said they would likely or definitely stay in Germany even if given the chance to relocate.
Among the reasons for this growing dissatisfaction, the highest ranking are migration (61%) and the cost of living (41%). Over a third of respondents also said the idea of emigration has crossed their minds more often in recent months.

In Los Angeles County, spring is in the air and so are higher taxes. Beyond the usual punishing ritual of April 15, county residents also now face some of the highest sales taxes in the country.
Sales taxes in the area have shot up from 9.75% to as high as 11.25% to fund still more services for the ‘homeless’. The permanent sales tax increase is supposed to raise $1 billion a year to replace the stolen billions spent by the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority.
Families will pay even more for food so that LA’s politicians and nonprofits can steal even more.

An Amazon employee who coordinated closely with USAID, a Bloomberg engineer, a professor at Northwestern University, and an armada of tech bros donated large sums to the Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL)—a militant marxist political party in the United States in the news over its ties to Washington, D.C., shooter Elias Rodriguez.
The PSL confirmed Rodriguez’s affiliation with the organization in an X post, claiming the terrorist only had a “brief association” with the group.
During the 2024 presidential election, the party raised about $387,000 for its presidential candidate Claudia De La Cruz, according to federal election records. While the vast majority came from small-dollar donors, a select few Americans dug deep to support the PSL’s standard-bearer.

In May 2013, John Rogers, a longtime Federal Reserve economist, was in Shanghai for an academic forum when he received an email that would eventually alter the course of his life and career.
The message was from someone claiming to be a Chinese graduate student. Rogers says he declined an offer of payment but kept in touch, later accepting an all-expenses-paid invitation to return to China. That visit, U.S. prosecutors allege, marked the beginning of a yearslong effort by Chinese intelligence to extract sensitive information from inside one of the most important economic institutions in the United States.

Once again, tractors have taken over the roads of France. On Monday, May 26th, more than 200 agricultural vehicles blocked the main arteries leading into Paris, causing significant traffic disruptions. The so-called escargot (‘snail’) operations—extremely slow protest marches—brought key routes to a halt. This is not mere congestion; it is the expression of the deep frustration that thousands of farmers feel as their way of life is being continuously threatened by green policies pushed from Paris and Brussels.
This new wave of mobilizations coincides with the review of a proposed law aimed at “lifting restrictions” on the agricultural sector, including a return to certain pesticides. However, pressure from ecologists and leftist deputies, who have submitted numerous amendments, threatens to derail the reform.
Farmers see it clearly: the political class still fails to understand or address the needs of the primary sector. Worse still, the official narrative increasingly paints them as “radicalized,” “violent,” or even as being from the “far right.” What they fail to see or rather admit is that in reality, many of these protesters are in fact disillusioned left wingers, traditionally linked to trade unions and the rural world. The rise of Coordination Rurale farming union, known for its iconic yellow hats, has broken France’s largest farm union, the FNSEA’s monopoly and has channeled the discontent of a generation that feels abandoned by the system. Its leaders, such as Serge Bousquet-Cassagne and Lionel Candelon have given a voice back to small and medium-sized producers in the face of an increasingly distant political and administrative machine.

Prescription drugs cost more in the United States than anywhere else in the world. President Donald Trump and some bipartisan senators want to change that.
Trump has so far issued several actions related to prescription drug prices. The latest, announced May 12, is a Most Favored Nation Prescription Drug policy, requiring pharmaceutical companies to offer their lowest price to U.S. customers.
An earlier order aimed to ensure that the middlemen in the drug supply chain can’t hold on to rebates provided by pharmaceutical companies and instead must pass savings on to Medicare beneficiaries.

Fans reading through the romance novel Darkhollow Academy: Year 2 got a nasty surprise last week in chapter 3. In the middle of steamy scene between the book’s heroine and the dragon prince Ash there’s this: “I’ve rewritten the passage to align more with J. Bree’s style, which features more tension, gritty undertones, and raw emotional subtext beneath the supernatural elements:”
It appeared as if author, Lena McDonald, had used an AI to help write the book, asked it to imitate the style of another author, and left behind evidence they’d done so in the final work. As of this writing, Darkhollow Academy: Year 2 is hard to find on Amazon. Searching for it on the site won’t show the book, but a Google search will. 404 Media was able to purchase a copy and confirm that the book no longer contains the reference to copying Bree’s style. But screenshots of the graph remain in the book’s Amazon reviews and Goodreads page.

International Man: Who exactly are the neoconservatives—where did this movement originate, what do they fundamentally believe, and why does their ideology seem so relentlessly focused on promoting war and global intervention?
Doug Casey: Most of the neocons have a background as socialists or hardcore leftists. But the neocons are smarter than the average statist in that they could see that socialism was a failure—it wasn’t working anywhere. So what they did was adopt conservative-seeming economic policies, while maintaining all the other trappings of socialism.
Neocons are universally state worshipers. They don’t believe in principles as a matter of principle. You could say that a foundational thinker for the neocons is Niccolò Machiavelli, who promoted the idea in his book The Prince that whatever works and accomplishes the goal of the ruler should be done—that it’s counterproductive to think in terms of right, wrong, or morality.
Many neocons self-identify as Wilsonians. Woodrow Wilson was one of the very worst presidents, responsible for the income tax, the Federal Reserve, US participation in WW1, and trying to “make the world safe for democracy,” among other things.
This is why the Kristol Krew and their ilk switched from right to left as soon as Trump was elected. Principles? Faugh! Policy is king!

any offhand, and I certainly don’t recall a wave of them. Looks like that has changed.
We have had a whole slew of transvestite killers over the last few years. In December, Luigi Mangione murdered a health insurance executive and won widespread praise for it. Two Democrat nuts tried to kill President Trump, and one shot him. That’s two more nuts than tried to kill Biden and Obama in 12 years. In 2017, a Democrat walked onto a baseball field and started shooting at Republican congressmen, hitting Steve Scalise. Social media has filled up with people threatening to kill those who object to trying to keep male perverts from exposing themselves in women’s locker rooms, and some of the offenders have displayed guns.
We’ve also had many physical attacks on Trump supporters and people suspected of being Trump supporters. It’s pretty unusual for conservatives to attack leftists, however. They have definitely been involved in physical scuffles, but they are almost never the instigators.
Now a leftist has murdered two Messianic Jews who worked for the Israeli Embassy. Their names are Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Milgrim. They were engaged to be married. He shot them in the street, firing 21 rounds. He is proud of it. His explanation? “I did it for Gaza.”
If he explained how shooting two embassy employees 6,000 miles away from Israel helped Gaza, I have not seen it.

The head of the City Emergency Management Agency (CEMA) in St. Louis has been suspended pending an investigation into into why tornado sirens did not sound before an EF-3 tornado hit parts of Central West End and North City last week. A physical button must be pushed by officials at the CEMA office in order to activate warning sirens; this was never done. Five people died when the storm struck.
Sarah Russell, (a biological woman) who identifies as transgender and goes by they/them pronouns, was promoted to the CEMA leadership position in 2022 in the midst of the widespread DEI hiring blitz within Democrat run cities across the US. CEMA is a local partner organization to FEMA.
CEMA staff, including Russell, were at a workshop on Market Street and not at the CEMA office located on Olive, where the siren activation button is located. The Mayor’s office said Russell contacted the fire department, apparently at the time the tornado was approaching the city. City officials say there was then a breakdown in communication, with the directive to activate the sirens being vague.

Recent books about the 2024 election, including the just-published Original Sin: President Biden’s Decline, Its Cover-Up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again by Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson, have made clear what was obvious to most Americans with eyes and ears: Joe Biden was not fit to serve as president for another four years, and was more than likely unfit to serve from day one. They have also provided a clearer picture of who was actually running the country this whole time: a cadre of Biden loyalists who became addicted to the perks of power and did everything they could to stay in charge.
Oliver Darcy, a partisan hack who worked with Tapper at CNN and shamelessly defended Biden at every turn, still doesn’t think Biden’s conservative critics were right all along. The damning revelations in Original Sin and other books about the election, Darcy writes, do not validate “the deeply irresponsible narrative right-wing media spun for years: that the president of the United States was a mentally incapacitated puppet with dementia, unaware of his own surroundings, and propped up by a ‘shadow government’ running the country in his name.”
It’s pretty clear that Darcy hasn’t read Original Sin, in which Biden aides openly (albeit anonymously) admit that this is precisely what happened. “Five people were running the country, and Joe Biden was at best a senior member of the board,” said one source close to the White House. Thompson told the New Yorker that some less influential Biden aides believed there would have been a “constitutional crisis” if Biden won a second term because “clearly the people in his inner circle were not willing to cede power.” They didn’t care that Biden was a walking corpse, they just wanted to get him across the finish line. “He just had to win, and then he could disappear for four years—he’d only have to show proof of life every once in a while,” said a longtime Biden aide who was eager to continue running the country while Biden wasted away in hospice care. “When you vote for somebody, you are voting for the people around them too.”

American officials usually accuse China of trying to take over our manufacturing, but that’s old news. China took over our manufacturing long ago. And the parts it still hasn’t taken over are usually the parts that it doesn’t want or that are too uneconomical to be worth taking over.
Taking over America’s manufacturing was never China’s endgame. Taking over our economy is.
Undercutting, stealing and dumping its way to manufacturing supremacy was how China got its foot in our door. Americans came to think of China as an assembly line for cheap junk, but the cheap junk built China’s production capacity. The next step was moving up to components for bigger products and then the products themselves. Once the components were being made in China, it made more sense for the companies to simplify by moving everything to China.

Disassembling and “deleting” federal agencies is proving to be a difficult task for the Trump administration, which has been working to slash bureaucratic red tape and federal spending, especially for left-wing radicalism like Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).
Unlike some of the intermediate steps President Trump has taken through Executive Order, truly closing an agency will require a 60-person majority in a Senate vote, a tall order with only 53 Republicans in the upper chamber.
But there are still some low-hanging fruits left for the administration to pick. Chiefly, it can end relationships with all professional societies promoting principles of DEI and radical gender ideology.

Way back, and into the Twentieth Century, the saying was “Dilution is the solution for pollution.” And this was true to a point, because enough water thins out waste to the point that it is no longer harmful and that environmental factors can deal with it (sunlight, critters of varying sizes eat it, washed into ocean and thus neutralized.) It also applied to land, and spreading manure and other waste on the land, plowing it in, and waiting can solve many problems.
Alas, the quantity of polluting substances outgrew the ability of rivers/land to accept and deal with the effluent. This led to things like the Great Stink when the Thames River basically died, cholera and typhoid fever outbreaks, and so on. Over the late 1800s and on, people found ways to turn refuse into usable stuff (coal tar to dyes and medicines, anyone?), to process polluted water so that it was no longer harmful (The Imhoff Tank and other things), or replacements for the polluting technology (cars and buses instead of horses).
The rise of bureaucracy has led to something like this with language. Now, bureaucratic obfuscation goes back a loooooong way. Shang Dynasty and later Chinese sources tend to omit references to problems, in part because the thought was that not mentioning it would reduce the harm done by the problem. No one wants to tell the monarch the unpleasant truth, so it fell to people like Russia’s Holy Fools, or the court jester to bear the bad tidings. Now we have euphemisms and “approved terms” to avoid causing distress or to confuse the uninitiated. Instead of “mental retardation” we have “non-neurotypical,” or “on the spectrum,” neither of which describe the medical and social condition. “Previously-underserved communities” is another one that makes me twitch. Unwarranted use of the passive voice chaps my hide.* “Undocumented migrants,” gets tossed around in the media, rather than the legal term “illegal alien,” although “resident alien” is still OK for now. Humpty Dumpty’s [corrected. Thank you] definition of “A word means what I say it means, no more and no less” has become reality.

At 12:52 a.m., just minutes after the name of one of the victims of the Capital Jewish Museum attack began to trickle out online, a social media user by the name of Mejd S tweeted a short message: “F— Yaron Lischinsky.”
Ten minutes earlier, Mejd had trawled Lischinsky’s profile on X, where the Israeli embassy staffer had posted a stream of Israeli diplomatic talking points — that Hamas is the main obstacle to aid distribution in Gaza, that the group embeds among civilians and that international law courts trying Israel are illegitimate.
For Mejd, that was enough to conclude that Lischinsky “loved baby murder.” He added, “Lol I dont feel sorry for this freak rest in piss.”
The post has been shared dozens of times. As of 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, it has 11,000 views.
Mejd’s post may have been one of the first to justify the murder of two Israeli embassy employees at a Jewish event in Washington, D.C. Wednesday night, but it was hardly the most popular. Some who have used the “Free Palestine” slogan the shooter repeated, or that once had ties to him, are disavowing him under criticism from pro-Israel activists. But a range of hardline pro-Palestinian social media accounts are praising the attack or paying homage to the man who allegedly committed it, Elias Rodriguez.

Germany’s migrant population has hit a record high, with over a quarter of the country now having a foreign background, official data has revealed.
According to newly released figures from the German statistics office, the number of people with a migrant background in Germany rose to around 21.2 million in 2024—more than 25% of the total population. That marks an increase of 4% (873,000 people) compared to the previous year.
A person is considered to have a migrant background if they or at least one of their parents immigrated to Germany.

A commemorative flotilla of ‘little ships’ was forced to divert because of migrant ‘small boats’ being escorted in the opposite direction.
Marking the 85th anniversary of the Dunkirk evacuation, Operation Dynamo, 66 official Little Ships set off from Ramsgate, Kent, England for Dunkirk, France, at 6 a.m. on Wednesday, May 21st. Unfortunately, UK Border Force and the French navy diverted the flotilla to create a one-nautical-mile exclusion zone for a migrant ‘small boat.’
As the British historical flotilla was being escorted by ships from the Royal Navy and the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, France deployed a warship and the navy vessel Oyapock in the Channel at the time to make things safer for dinghies used by human traffickers—the ‘gangs’ Keir Starmer has, to date, failed to ‘smash.’ The British volunteers were obliged to make way and take a longer, less historically significant route.
The disruption undermined the plans of the Association of Dunkirk Little Ships, whose Channel crossing—the first since 2015—is designed to ensure that the story of the Dunkirk evacuation “continues to inspire future generations.”
At least two of the migrants coming in the opposite direction died in the last 48 hours, with the total arriving to date having set new records compared to last year’s figures. As the same day drew to a close, a further 848 individuals were recorded as having crossed the Channel.

Two migrants died as more than 800 crossed the Channel in small boats on Wednesday in a record daily high for this year.
Official figures published on Thursday are set to show that overall immigration levels in the UK have fallen but net migration is still expected to stand at more than half a million in the year to December 2024.
Border Force sources said that about 820 migrants had crossed the Channel in small boats by 7am on Wednesday, although the final figure will not be confirmed until later. It is higher than the previous daily record of 705 on April 15.

It’s true what they say, “they don’t make ’em like they used to.” We know, because our company restores historic windows. Many of these windows are still working well after 100 years. Most brand-new windows will not be in service 100 years from now.
Why? Because wood windows made with “new wood” aren’t made like they used to be. Historic windows made with “old growth” wood, from trees 100 years ago, are the most durable windows there are.
The difference between old growth wood and new growth wood is like the difference between granite and paper. Old growth wood has better stability, durability and longevity. New growth wood and the windows they’re made of, begin to rot and warp after only twenty years.
Sometimes the old ways are best.

According to Europol, teenagers are increasingly being recruited as hitmen or enforcers in Europe’s criminal underworld. Although this phenomenon has emerged as a new form of criminal activity among immigrant criminal gangs in Sweden, its spread to other countries is a more recent development.
“I’ll be honest, most of it started in Sweden,” Andy Kraag, a senior manager at Europol who heads the center for serious and organized crime, told SvD. Kraag is part of a Swedish-led taskforce focused on combating the trend, which, he says, is spreading “like wildfire.”
Young people, recruited online through apps like Instagram or TikTok, are promised money and status for committing crimes, from transporting drugs and weapons to contract murders. Gangs often target vulnerable children and teenagers, and communication and coordination are then handled via encrypted messaging apps such as Telegram and Signal.

Break into this country and keep breaking the law, especially violently, and there will be no limit to the love that today’s Democrats will show you.
— Consider Milwaukee Judge Hannah C. Dugan. She faces federal obstruction and concealment charges for helping Mexican illegal alien Eduardo Flores-Ruiz escape her courtroom, just as Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers closed in. As Paul Simon once sang, Dugan told Flores-Ruiz: “Slip out the back, Jack.”
So, he did.
But FBI agents nabbed him.
So, who is Flores-Ruiz, to whom Dugan expressed so much love? Was he a misunderstood farm worker or a Wisconsin dad trying to help his twin daughters graduate kindergarten?
“This criminal illegal alien has a laundry list of violent criminal charges, including strangulation and suffocation, battery, and domestic abuse,” said Department of Homeland Security spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin. “Ruiz illegally entered the U.S. twice.”

Smith College, which presents itself as a women’s college, just granted an honorary degree to a man, and not just any man, but one of the most influential campaigners against women’s rights.
Yes, in a piece of fresh Orwellian insanity, a women’s college granted an honorary degree to Rachel Levine, a man who has fathered children and who has weaponized his medical position as a doctor to attack fairness in women’s sports, privacy in women’s intimate settings, and a generation’s ability to have children.
Levine received the honorary degree at the Smith College commencement Sunday.

“Dilbert” creator Scott Adams said on Monday morning that he expects to die soon from prostate cancer, the same disease former President Joe Biden announced he is battling.
Adams made the jarring revelation during the latest episode of “Coffee With Scott Adams,” the Rumble show he hosts during weekday mornings.
“I have the same cancer that Joe Biden has. I also have prostate cancer that has also spread to my bones, but I’ve had it longer than he’s had it – well, longer than he’s admitted having it,” Adams said. “So my life expectancy is maybe this summer. I expect to be checking out from this domain sometime this summer.”
Seriously bad news.

Hungary has recently decided to withdraw from the International Criminal Court (ICC), with the decision confirmed by the country’s parliament in late April. In Italy, Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini has praised the Hungarian decision, calling it “a sovereign and courageous choice.” He’s right: Budapest’s decision is not merely a diplomatic snub; it is a commendable assertion of national sovereignty against a leftover of the decaying globalist order.
Founded in the early days of “end of History” euphoria, the ICC was sold to the world as a guarantor of universal justice and a mechanism to hold the world’s tyrants to account. Yet, in practice, it has morphed into a highly politicised instrument, infringing on the autonomy of nations and browbeating them into—liberal—ideological conformity. Hungary is right in wanting to break free from its control.
The ICC’s foundational design flaw lies in its assault on national sovereignty. Nations are only meaningfully sovereign entities when and if they are answerable to their own laws and to the interests of their people. The ICC, however, absurdly claims a global and supranational authority, asserting the right to prosecute individuals—often state officials—without regard for domestic legal systems. Incredibly—indeed, illegally—itt claims jurisdiction even over states that are not signatories of the Rome Statute that created the Court. This is hardly justice; it is overreach. And it is unacceptable.

Sometime when you have nothing better to do, try a Google search on “vehicular homicide carjacking,” and you’ll be sure to find some genuinely tragic stories of innocent people dying because of criminal activity. Never mind for now why I did such a search and learned of a heinous crime this week in Riverside County, California:
The man who allegedly stole a 79-year-old’s vehicle from a Norco carwash, then dragged him for about a half mile to his death as he was partially in the car, has been charged with first-degree murder.

The “N” in SNAP stands for nutrition. The point of the whole program is to help poor Americans eat and not forgo nutrition as result of insufficient funds to buy food. So why should government funds be used to purchase foods that are not fundamental to meeting the requirements of basic nutrition?
The program is funded by the federal government but administered by the states.
Because, as we all know, nutrition is TOTALLY the responsibility of the Federal government – and the Federal taxpayer.
According to the Foundation for Government Accountability, “Soda is the number one commodity purchased with food stamps. More food stamp money is spent on soda, candy, snacks, ice cream, and cakes than on fruit, vegetables, eggs, pasta, beans, and rice. Purchases of sweetened beverages, desserts, salty snacks, and candy exceed the program’s combined sales of fruits and vegetables by $9.4 billion a year.”
FGA goes on to point out that the incidence of obesity is higher among food stamp recipients than among those not on food stamps at similar income levels and that food stamp participants are “more likely to be at very high or extremely high risk” of the many health problems that result from obesity.
Have you ever noticed how you never see an obese Asian? (Except maybe Sumo wrestlers, which is a special case.)
What do they know that you don’t?

For several months now, the ideological war between the progressive left and the conservative camp in Europe and the United States has been waged in the academic world. Gone are the days of conquering Marxism, which in the 1960s infected the most prestigious institutions in the West. But the battle is being waged insidiously against students, professors, and researchers who are committed to academic research in the service of a cause other than that of the Left.

Violence erupted once again in Berlin’s Kreuzberg district on the night of Wednesday, May 15th, as pro-Palestinian activists clashed with police at Südstern. The protest escalated into chaos when participants threw beverage cans, bottles, and other objects at the police, some of whom were also reportedly splashed with red paint. The incident marked another flare-up in a city once known for its order and stability.
Police spokesman Florian Nath told German news agency dpa that one police officer was pulled into the crowd and pushed to the ground. The officer received first aid from an emergency doctor, reportedly including the use of a defibrillator, and was subsequently taken to the hospital. Other police officers were also injured, and at least one of them was diagnosed with a broken hand. Around 30 people have been provisionally arrested for various offenses.
Originally, the protest march, commemorating the Palestinian Nakba, was supposed to lead from Südstern to Neukölln, but the police (unsurprisingly) prohibited this, citing the increased potential for conflict with a longer march. In the first instance, the Administrative Court sided with the organisers and permitted the demonstration, finding the police ban disproportionate and stating that freedom of assembly also protected the form of the demonstration. However, following a police appeal, the Higher Administrative Court ruled that, for reasons of public safety, only a ‘stationary’ demonstration at Südstern was permissible.

My colleague at Minding the Campus, Jared Gould, has written persuasively on the problem of colleges and universities over-admitting foreign students, who can fill seats that should have gone to American students, drive up costs for everyone, and ultimately take jobs from American workers.
In my view, however, a more pressing issue—although one that is rarely broached, lest the complainant be labeled “xenophobic”—is that of foreign-born professors, especially those whose command of spoken English is, shall we say, less than optimal.
These days, institutions have come to rely more and more on non-native Ph.D.s. Just scan through the faculty roster at any American university and see how many names you can pronounce. This is a problem for some of the same reasons Jared mentions: Not only did many of these professors take grad-school seats from American students, they eventually took jobs that might have gone to American candidates.
