The concept of a “hate group” could be useful. In practice, however, it is like the concept of “hate speech,” applied to shut down heterodox speech and confine the public square to dissemination of officially approved thought. The concepts somehow overlook the likes of the the hilariously misnamed Southern Poverty Law Center and its works, which direct something far beyond the Orwellian Two Minutes Hate to the likes of Charles Murray and Ayaan Hirsi Ali. If there is such a thing as a “hate group” — as I say, it could be a useful concept — the SPLC is it. Indeed, I think it may be our most influential hate group.

A college campus closed Wednesday and a professor reports having fled the state after calling white people “inhuman assholes” and saying “#LetThemFuckingDie.”

That sounds about right.

Professor Johnny Eric Williams of Trinity College in Connecticut says he has fled the state, claiming to have received death threats after he posted inflammatory, anti-white remarks on Facebook, according to Hartford Courant.

Gee, I wonder why.

The college closed Wednesday, but reopened Thursday.

Pity.

“I’m fed the fuck up with self identified ‘white’s’ [sic] daily violence directed at immigrants, Muslim, and sexual [sic] and racially oppressed people,” he said in a subsequent post. “The time is now to confront these inhuman assholes and end this now.”

In the run-up to the 2016 presidential election, a Clinton-aligned voter registration operation registered a felon, a minor and a non-U.S. citizen, among other irregularities.

A dozen employees of the Indiana Voter Registration Project now face felony charges for their electoral hanky panky, but you probably would not know it if you depended on the national broadcast television networks for your news, as they routinely sweep Democrat election-rigging schemes like this under the rug.

In fact, only the CBS This Morning and Fox News have made any mention of the scandal rocking the Indiana Voter Registration Project, an organization managed by Patriot Majority USA, a group that AP reported has strong ties to the Democratic Party, including former President Bill Clinton.

In general, insecticides are toxic to humans because humans are quite a bit like bugs. Herbicides, on the other hand, are generally not very toxic to humans, because we aren’t a lot like plants. But even in this context, glyphosate stood out as a harmless chemical. It targets an enzyme that is found in plants, but not in humans or animals. Moreover, glyphosate breaks down easily and does not persist in the environment. It is pretty much the perfect herbicide (until resistance starts to develop, but that’s another story).

This sounds like a win-win situation–cheaper food, better health, longer lifespans–but some people irrationally hate genetically modified crops, even though the modification–in this case, making the corn or soybean plant tolerant of glyphosate–has nothing to do with its nutritional value. After decades of world-wide experience with glyphosate, it was accepted that the product was safe. So it was a bombshell when the International Agency for Research on Cancer declared, in March 2015, that glyphosate is “probably carcinogenic,” based on tests on rodents.

Hundreds of cancer patients promptly sued Monsanto, claiming the company had concealed the danger of carcinogenicity, notwithstanding the fact that it would be hard to find a farmer who hadn’t been exposed to glyphosate. The European Union said it would consider IARC’s finding when deciding whether to continue to allow glyphosate to be used in Europe. “Environmentalists” had scored a major coup.

But the whole thing turned out to be a fraud.

Baltimore has the nickname of “Bodymore, Murderville” because of a high rate of homicide and the habit of the locals spray painting the slogan on abandoned buildings. The other “slogan” you see around the city is a re-write of a marketing campaign run by the city a few years back. The pols had the idea of putting the word “Believe” on everything, so the more clever changed it to “Behave” which gets to the heart of the issue. The city has a huge population of people who cannot behave themselves like civilized people.

Currently the city is on pace for over 360 murders and we are just getting into peak killing season. Usually, the winter tamps down the murder rates as it is just not as much fun to pop a cap in an ass when it is snowing sideways. Similarly, the spring has been very rainy and gangsters tend not to like going out to murder people for their sneakers when it is raining. In other words, it’s possible there is a lot of pent up demand for murder that will now be unleashed with the summer weather.

THE FIRE THAT raged through a London apartment building on Wednesday night horrified engineers for more than its terrible human cost—at least 12 people died in the blaze at the 24-story tall Grenfell Tower, and London authorities expect to find more as they search the still-smoldering ruin. It was a disaster made even worse for its utter lack of unexpectedness. Residents had been warning about shoddy maintenance and smoking electrical equipment for at least four years.

But what investigators will have to figure out is exactly how the fire spread the way it did—because a fast-burning ignition that spreads from floor to floor of a tower block is exactly what modern building and fire codes are supposed to prevent. The mantra of high-rise fire protection is compartmentation, suppression, and evacuation, in that order. In London, the first two failed, but that’s unusual. It’s that third priority—getting out—that researchers around the world are still trying to solve.

This is why I would never live in a high-rise, and why I laugh at all of the ‘urban planners’ who think that ‘density’ is the answer to all our problems. Until we have the technology, uh, no thanks.

Has Steve Scalise, or any other GOP member of Congress, advocated a policy that would prohibit hiring of black people, women, or homosexuals as Capitol Police? No, that never happened, and so labeling Scalise a “bigoted homophobe” is merely a continuation of the anti-Republican rhetoric that inspired “passionate progressive” James Hodgkinson to open fire Wednesday morning.

In April, I called attention to how the Left has developed the habit of using “hate” as a synonym for Republican. This rhetorical tactic explains the mood of irrational fear and rage that has gripped so many on the Left since Donald Trump was elected President. There is nothing that separates the shooter Hodgkinson from the typical “progressive” blogger. Hodgkinson was part of the “Occupy” protests and denounced the “one percent” — the same kind of sentiment commonly espoused by Democrat politicians and their liberal media allies. Demonizing their opponents in this way has become standard operating procedure for the Left — “Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it,” to quote Saul Alinsky — and we should not be surprised when such tactics inspire criminal violence. As Rep. Rodney Davis said, this is “rhetorical terrorism.”

In March, former attorney general Loretta Lynch made a brief video in which she called for people “who see our rights being assailed, being trampled on and even being rolled back” to follow the example of freedom fighters of the past. “They’ve marched, they’ve bled and yes, some of them died. This is hard. Every good thing is. We have done this before. We can do this again.” The Senate Democrats shared Lynch’s call for street action leading to bloody sacrifice on their Facebook page.

This is what Robert Spencer has been saying since he was poisoned. The left dehumanizes us with violent rhetoric so it will be easier to kill us. They don’t want to challenge our ideas. They want to end our lives, and they are willing to do it by any means necessary. I don’t think they care if it’s a mentally ill person or a jihadi who does the killing, as long as we’re taken out. They themselves say, “The only good fascist is a dead one,” and it’s going mainstream. Plays in the park depict long, drawn-out scenes of Trump being stabbed to death. Kathy Griffin holds the president’s severed head. Rap videos play out the assassination of Trump. In fact, the whole concept of assassination has been normalized by the mainstream media.

This year’s Los Angeles Pride Parade was turned into an anti-Republican political protest, from which gay Republicans were banned. It’s rather difficult to explain the logic of this, given that Trump was the most pro-LGBT Republican ever nominated for president, and his most prominent supporters include gay billionaire Peter Thiel. If you look at exit polls, you discover that Republicans get more votes from the gay community than they do from the black community, and why? Two reasons:
1. Capitalism;
and
2. Patriotism.
If you love economic freedom, and you’re proud to be an American, obviously you should vote Republican. Does being gay require you to vote for the Democrat Party’s socialist anti-American agenda? No, and many gay people are smart enough to figure this out. Heck, at the 2012 GOP convention in Tampa, I watched Mitt Romney’s acceptance speech from a private luxury suite — with free beer — thanks to a lesbian friend who happened to be lobbyist for the coal industry. Who says that so-called “social issues” are more important than basic economics? Democrats. And who believes that supporting America’s enemies is good for gay people? Democrats. The Orlando massacre was committed by a terrorist who declared his loyalty to America’s enemies.

There’s a tendency to assign logical motivations to the Progs. This piece in the American Conservative where I spotted the Loh op-ed does exactly that. It just assumes the good professor is using this tragedy as an excuse to crack down on dissent, as if any exists on the college campus. The headline even accepts the Prog mysticism about “:hate” being a lesser demon that walks among us, looking for a suitable host. The reality is, the Cult of Modern Liberalism is a mystery cult now. It is a religion.

The other day, Al Gore claimed he was told by God to fight global warming, and make a billion dollars doing it. It is tempting to write it off as a cynical ploy, but all the facts in support of his claim have been there for a while. Climate change is an apocalyptic nature cult. Al Gore had a nervous breakdown during, or soon after, the 2000 election and came back from it believing he was a prophet sent to redeem mankind. He’s not the first guy to snap and develop a messiah complex. He’s now the Ezekiel of climate change.

A former left-wing reporter for The Intercept is set to plead guilty to cyber-stalking charges after making eight bomb threats against Jewish Community Centers across the U.S., prosecutors said Tuesday.

Juan Thompson, who will appear in court on June 12, had tried to deny the charges in April soon after his arrest, claiming he was being framed because he was black, Reuters reported.Thompson reportedly made the threats in an elaborate plot to take revenge on his Jewish ex-girlfriend.

Today, The Intercept released documents on election tampering from an NSA leaker. Later, the arrest warrant request for an NSA contractor named “Reality Winner” was published, showing how they tracked her down because she had printed out the documents and sent them to The Intercept. The document posted by the Intercept isn’t the original PDF file, but a PDF containing the pictures of the printed version that was then later scanned in.

The problem is that most new printers print nearly invisibly yellow dots that track down exactly when and where documents, any document, is printed. Because the NSA logs all printing jobs on its printers, it can use this to match up precisely who printed the document.

For the small fraternity of people who make their living coaxing musical notes out of vulnerable pieces of wood and metal, few things are more terrifying than seeing an expensive, defenceless instrument disappear on that little conveyor belt at the airport.

Horror stories abound. A musician checked his $45,000, 75-year-old cello, which airport workers promptly placed beneath somebody’s golf clubs, snapping its neck. A noted German soloist said airport workers roughed up his cello case. After his flight, he found his $20,000 bow broken in half. A Florida State University music student on a flight to Tallahassee found splinters of wood where her cello used to be.

Those stories and many, many more have converged into an unwritten musician’s rule: Never trust an airline with your instrument.

After the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991, conservatives saw environmentalism as replacement for the bogeyman of communism—or at least that’s what FiftyThirtyEight science reporter Maggie Koerth-Baker declared on NPR’s Science Friday. In the ’90s, she noted, some conservatives started calling environmentalists “watermelons”: “green on the outside, red on the inside.” Host Ira Flatow chuckled disbelievingly.

But Koerth-Baker has her history backwards: Lots of reds did turn green in the 1990s. Unmoored socialists cast about for some other theory explaining how capitalism would destroy itself. They began adopting and expanding upon the arguments of radical environmentalists, who had been arguing that capitalism will collapse because the pollution produced by its heedless overconsumption will build to an ecological breaking point.

And that line of argument is still with us today. For example, activist Naomi Klein asserts that climate science is “the most powerful argument against unfettered capitalism” ever.

What they’re for wanders all over the map, but what they’re against is constant: Free minds and free markets.

The 25-year-old woman who stole “Top Secret” documents from the National Security Agency and leaked them to The Intercept appears to be a supporter of Bernie Sanders and other progressive icons, such as Bill Maher and Michael Moore.

Reality Leigh Winner’s apparent social media footprint also shows that she is a supporter of other liberal causes, including the Women’s March and the Islamic Society of North America, the Muslim civil rights group.

When you give your kid a name more suitable for a horse, you’ve got to expect this sort of thing.

Even before the election of Donald Trump, and more so afterwards, the dysfunction of the GOP has been glaringly obvious. Yet, despite the miserable favorability ratings for both Trump and the Republicans, those of the Democrats, notes Gallup, also have been dropping, and are nearly identical to that of the Republicans.

What gives? Simply put, the Democrats seem to know only what they are against — Trump — but have provided no clear sense of where they want to take the country. The party, and much of the nation, despises Trump, but there does not seem to be any huge pent-up national demand for the Democrats to take over — at least, not yet.

Part of the problem is major chasms underneath the absurd faux solidarity of the “resistance” movement on the left. These have been largely hidden in the increasingly uniformly pro-Democratic media. These differences extend beyond personal fiefdoms or stylistic differences. They reflect deep divides in terms of class and geography, and will not be easy for the party leadership to reconcile.

The Canadian province of Ontario has passed a legislation that has been described by critics as “totalitarian” as it allows the government to seize children from families who do not accept gender ideology.

As reported hereover the weekend, opponents of the M-103 anti-blasphemy motion gathered on Parliament Hill in Ottawa to protest the implementation of sharia in Canada and support free speech. If you live in Ottawa, take a close look at the faces shown here, because you may want to keep a discreet distance from these worthies if you happen to encounter them in the street.
