Last week, Education Secretary Betsy DeVos visited Harvard University’s Institute of Politics to discuss her school choice agenda. Students in the audience interrupted her several times; some even held up a sign accusing her of being a “white supremacist.”

The irony, of course, is twofold. One, the subject of DeVos’s Harvard address—school choice—is a policy that offers low-income students of color a respite from the hopelessness of the failing traditional public school systems in many cities. Two, DeVos’s recent major policy accomplishment was rescinding the Obama administration’s infamous Title IX “dear colleague” letter, a move that will restore a modicum of fairness to campus sexual harassment trials—trials that disproportionately disadvantage male students of color.

This makes DeVos a “white supremacist”? Please.

Authorities say Stephen Paddock, a 64-year-old resident of Las Vegas, is the shooter who killed 50 people in the mass shooting at the Route 91 Festival late Sunday night on the historic Vegas Strip — but have not revealed a motive or whether the alleged shooter was following any “belief system.”

Cue media speculation about membership in ‘alt-right’ or ‘white supremacist’ groups.

It is unclear if they have also found the suspect’s 62-year-old Asian female roommate, whom authorities identified as Marilou Danley and described as an “associate” who stands at 4 foot 11 inches tall and weighs around 111 pounds.

I’ve occasionally noticed, when arguing with strangers on the Internet that I figure out are still in college or have only recently graduated (it isn’t tough), I can completely discombobulate them simply by admitting I’ve been wrong about something. Sometimes if I’m in an extra snarky mood I’ll tell them I make ten or more mistakes every day before they even think about getting out of bed, which in many cases is probably true. Trouble is, if this assault is fitting for the target, it’s difficult for the dialogue to proceed because it’s like introducing the concept of days-of-week to a barnyard animal, or depth to some kind of stencil-creature from a two-dimensional universe. Willing to admit you’ve ever been wrong about something? My professor didn’t teach me how to deal with this! What is this strange brew?

What’s really going on here is arrested development. No, that’s not a reference to a man in his fifties getting in Internet arguments with strangers…although that may apply too. No, I’m referring to the fastening of an identity, not so much to the specific assertion being made, but to the lofty goal of being right. Five-to-seven year olds argue this way: I’m smart-n-right, you’re wrong-n-dumb. They grow up, graduate high school, go to college which is supposed to be a proving ground for bold, diverse, innovative new ideas, and then graduate that. Still arguing the same way. I’m right you’re wrong, ALL the time…now what were we arguing about again? I forgot. But I’m still right.

As I point out below, the latest Chicago surge in murders began in January 2016, immediately after or coinciding with four BLM-driven triumphs of liberalism over the Chicago Police Department from late November 2015 to early January 2016.

On Monday, however, the FBI released 2016 crime statistics showing that homicides were up an extraordinary 20 percent nationally during the last two years of the Obama administration, when the former president was pushing his BLM agenda. The spike in murders tended to be concentrated in cities where BLM enjoyed its greatest triumphs, such as Baltimore and Chicago.

In other words, the ironically entitled Black Lives Matter has gotten several thousand additional blacks murdered by other blacks since Ferguson.

Used to be that a college degree indicated an acquaintance with the liberal arts and sometimes advanced scientific training. If I had a child, I would be hesitant to recommend going to college. There are so many resources for independent study available, and so many fields (e.g. IT) where a ‘college education’ isn’t really the necessary credential that it is assumed to be.

Outside the NFL toady bubble, most of America, to the extent it still watches, now sees Sunday afternoon pop demonstrations as increasingly a farce, played out among players who appear neither exploited nor as exemplary model sportsmen, but rather as overpaid and pampered. Given the NFL’s enormous overhead, even a 10–20 percent reduction in attendance and viewing could send financial tsunamis throughout the league.

Nor do the protesting players come across as informed, brave social-justice warriors on the barricades of dissent, but as mostly unable to explain to their fans precisely why and how they are mistreated or why America is a flawed society that does not deserve momentary iconic respect each week. If players were concerned about violence and injustice, why not collect a voluntary 10 percent contribution from the league’s multimillionaire players and use it to fund programs that address systematic and lethal violence in inner-city communities such as Baltimore or Chicago? And if ethics and values are the players’ issues, why over the last decade has there been an increase in player off-field violence and arrests, often marked by well-publicized violence against women?

The Right think the Left are stupid.

Like the great majority of American white people of earlier eras, slaveholder Thomas Jefferson and abolitionist Abraham Lincoln held the belief that (a) blacks probably could not hack it as free men in modern society and (b) white people would never tolerate them as equals, in any event.

Martin Luther King, Thurgood Marshall, and the rest of the leadership of the civil rights movement had no illusions about immediately converting the great mass of angry/terrified white Southerners to the cause of equality so they always pitched their words and deeds to a larger national white audience.

What white people thought about black people largely controlled and constrained the lives of the latter for most of our history. One the perverse, unexpected consequences of that fact is the increasingly weird, magical thinking that what white people think still controls and constrains black lives. 

This is key. Until black people quit thinking that their lives rotate around what white people think, things will never improve.

When a African-American cop (working under a African-American police chief) in a city where white supremacists in power are about as common as unicorns (Milwaukee) shot Sylville Smith, an armed African-American suspect who aimed a weapon at pursuing police, there was a three-day riot and a relative of the fallen suspect said “white people are the devil.”

Which is as delusional as the Nazi fantasy that the Jews were responsible for everything wrong in the world.

Similarly, in Baltimore, Freddie Gray was killed in a negligent fashion in a police van with an African-American police driver after an arrest by three African-American and three white officers who worked under a African-American police chief responsible to a African-American mayor and majority African-American city council in a country where civil rights complaints were referred to a African-American US Attorney General appointed by a African-American President. Yet for many, the incident was somehow about white racism.

The whole ‘intersectionality’ excuse is just another way of saying ‘whatever happens, white people are to blame, even if they weren’t even involved’.

White people actually have constrained and deformed black lives in the modern era but not from malignant racism so much as spectacularly bad social welfare policies designed by white liberals. Our national policies destroyed family life, natural social ties, and solid childhood formation. These programs have had the net effect of fostering crime, poverty, and substance-abuse and thus made clashes with law enforcement vastly more common.

White liberals also found various ideological means to crush substantive academic achievement just in case the deformative process of atomization was not sufficiently harmful.

For the majority of African-Americans who are not part of the poverty culture, white liberals also found a way to undermine their place in society with “affirmative action.” The previous presumption that an African-American with a professional degree is probably at least as good if not better than most whites because of what he or she had to overcome has been replaced with the nagging suspicion that he or she may be in that position only because of affirmative action.

There are white people against which black people have a legitimate beef, but it’s the white people who are allegedly on their side.

French President Emmanuel Macron sharply criticized Poland Friday, saying Prime Minister Beata Szydlo’s opposition to a revamp of European Union rules on cheap labor is one of numerous policies that are marginalizing her country.

Speaking in Bulgaria’s Black Sea port of Varna at the beginning of a European diplomatic blitz, Macron campaigned to end the “social dumping” that he says occurs when workers from low-wage countries are hired in other EU nations at their own pay levels for extended periods. He wants to shorten the period for the exemption.

‘Dumping’ is the smear-term used by governments and their enablers when they artificially inflate a price above that of the free market and other people don’t comply with their plans.

Szydlo issued a sharp response, telling a Polish website that Macron’s comments were “arrogant” and seek to “split” the EU. She reiterated that her government won’t stop defending the rights of Polish workers, arguing that Macron’s proposals would breach fundamental EU principles of free movement of labor and services.

When macOS High Sierra is released to the public next week, the new Apple File System (APFS) feature will be limited to Macs with all-flash built-in storage, which means it won’t work with iMacs that include Fusion Drives.

iMacs with Fusion Drives were converted to APFS during the beta testing process in the first macOS High Sierra beta, but support was removed in subsequent betas and not re-implemented.

Public Beta testers who had an iMac with a Fusion Drive converted to APFS will need to follow a long list of instructions to convert back to HFS+, including making a Time Machine Backup, creating a bootable installer, and using Disk Utility to reformat their iMacs and reinstall macOS High Sierra.

Eleven law enforcement officers sustained injuries from Friday’s violent protests in St. Louis, the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department announced Saturday night. MPD also reported 33arrests were made.

On Wednesday evening, a group of mothers in London drew protest from transgender activists when they held an event on women speaking about what it means to be a woman. During the event, which was disrupted, a transgender activist assaulted a 60-year-old woman.

British woman Maria MacLachlan was attacked by a male transgender activist who disrupted the event while she was videotaping a protest at Speakers’ Corner in Hyde Park. The protesters opposed a scheduled forum on gender and the 2004 Gender Recognition Act.

What’s the problem? Just punching a Nazi.

A Texas professor resigned Tuesday from his position at a law firm after tweeting the he would “be ok if” Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos “was sexually assaulted.”

Robert Ranco, who serves as a paralegal studies adjunct professor at Austin Community College, resigned from the Carlson Law Firm after speaking with the firm’s founder, Craig Carlson, reported Fox 7.

A Marketplace investigation of the world’s largest diploma mill has discovered many Canadians could be putting their health and well-being in the hands of nurses, engineers, counsellors and other professionals with phoney credentials.

Fake diplomas are a billion-dollar industry, according to experts, and Marketplace obtained business records of its biggest player, a Pakistan-based IT firm called Axact. The team spent months combing through thousands of degree transactions, cross referencing personal information with customers’ social media profiles.

The investigation revealed more than 800 Canadians could have purchased a fake degree.

“Keep in mind this is just the one operation,” said Allen Ezell, a former FBI agent who investigated diploma mills for decades. “This does not give you totality of how many are being sold throughout Canada by all schools that are operating.”
