Since I developed the vice of reading the New York Times, I have seen many a daft story, for which the recent controversy about Sarah Jeong can be adduced as Exhibit A. This morning, however, I read the most delightfully bizarre headline I think I have ever encountered: “Sharice Davids Could Become First Lesbian Native American Congresswoman.” She would also thereby be the first lesbian congresswoman from Kansas.

What is at issue here is not homosexuality or racial politics, which I can address elsewhere. My quarrel is with made-up stats.

In the age of the Participation Trophy, this is a not unexpected development.

In some instances, white-bashing can actually serve as a means of ascent, especially for Asian Americans. Embracing the culture of upper-white self-flagellation can spur avowedly enlightened whites to eagerly cheer on their Asian American comrades who show (abstract, faceless, numberless) lower-white people what for. And, simultaneously, it allows Asian Americans who use the discourse to position themselves as ethnic outsiders, including those who are comfortably enmeshed in elite circles.

Sarah Jeong just gave the market what it was willing to pay for.

Schumpeter predicted, before the massive expansion of higher education, that capitalism would breed a new class of intellectuals (writers, journalists, artists, lawyers, etc.) who would be motivated by both ideology and self-interest to undermine liberal democratic capitalism. “Unlike any other type of society, capitalism inevitably and by virtue of the very logic of its civilization creates, educates and subsidizes a vested interest in social unrest,” Schumpeter wrote in Capitalism, Socialism, and Democracy. He adds a bit further on: “For such an atmosphere [of social hostility to capitalism] to develop it is necessary that there be groups whose interest it is to work up and organize resentment, to nurse it, to voice it and to lead it.”

Sarah Jeong is not the ideal example of what Schumpeter was talking about, viz. capitalism (Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez fits that bill better). But she is a good example of the larger adversary culture that universities not only “nudge” students toward, but actively indoctrinate them into. Simply put, there is an entire industry dedicated to the proposition that not just the American past, but the American present, is disordered, bigoted, and oppressive. And Jeong’s meteoric and meritocratic rise demonstrates how so many of our best and brightest have gotten that message. How many have internalized it as ideology or have just cynically decided that’s how you get ahead is an open question.

This morning, Charlie Kirk and Candace Owens of Turning Point USA were eating breakfast in a restaurant in Philadelphia. They were spotted, apparently, by a liberal who ran to gather a mob. The mob of liberals besieged Kirk and Owens inside the restaurant, as you see here, and were waiting for them when they emerged. As you can see, the liberals are terrible human beings. One question, though: are there really people who wander around the streets carrying bullhorns?

Stefan Löfven is the leader of the Swedish Social Democratic Party and the prime minister of Sweden. As you probably know, his country is rapidly descending into chaos due the massive influx of violent, unemployable Muslim migrants. Ahead of next month’s elections, the Sweden Democrats, an anti-immigration party, is putting up the hardest fight the Social Democrats have seen in many decades.

So what is Mr. Löfven’s most important platform plank? Basically the same as Antifa’s: Hunt down all the Nazis and get them off the streets.

I don’t understand Sweden; I never have. But maybe he’s right. Maybe promising to fight the Nazis will gain him lots of extra votes and help him win the election. Maybe this is the most important issue for ordinary Swedes, when they take a break from being beaten or raped by migrants.

It could be true. I mean, this is Sweden, after all.

The prime minister is standing in front of a “Pride” flag in this video, and appears to be pitching his spiel to LGBTQRSWXYZ voters.

A little noticed detail in Santa Barbara’s recent drive to criminalize plastic straws, which culminated in the Santa Barbara city council taking testimony from a nine-year-old about the planetary menace, has come to light in recent days. During that council session, councilman Jesse Dominguez said to following in response to citizens who asked “what’s next?”:

“Unfortunately, common sense is just not common. We have to regulate every aspect of people’s lives.”

St Thomas’ is the latest evangelical parish to quit the official Anglican church in Scotland and back a rival splinter movement in reaction to the vote supporting gay marriage in June last year.

A number of other churches have either left or are considering leaving in the wake of the decision to change the Scottish Episcopal Church’s (SEC) definition of marriage as being between one man and one woman.

The worldwide family descended from the Church of England is coming apart like a wet paper towel. It was inevitable that ‘Catholicism without the Pope’ would eventually degenerate; when you cut a plant off from its root, it eventually withers and dies, sometimes soon, sometimes later, but always eventually.

This was the chief structural weakness of the Protestant Reformation. Once people got the idea that the Roman Church was wrong in some things, and needed to have those things fixed, it became easier and easier to ‘fix’ other things that weren’t really ‘broken’ but didn’t comport with the individual predilections of the demagogues that always rise to the top in such situations. That rot is now metastasizing, and Protestant ‘Christianity’ is dissolving like a pile of sand in a rainstorm. Within my lifetime I expect to see all such ‘denominations’ reduced to Hip And Trendy costume parties that call themselves Christian(of the new and improved kind!) and provide a place for Social Justice Warriors to socialize on weekends but whose doctrines (if they have any) no Christian of the Church’s first thousand years would recognize.

Put your ear to the ground. That rumbling you hear is Satan laughing his ass off.

What has happened in recent years is that the Right has begun to fight fire with fire, and the Left calls this “harassment.” This was the basic story of #GamerGate: Videogame enthusiasts had grown tired of their hobby being targeted by “social justice warriors” (SJWs) and decided to fight back. Defending themselves against the organized lobby of politically correct censors and critical-theory busybodies (e.g., Anita Sarkeesian), the #GamerGate crew were accused of “misogyny” and “haraassment.” And this exposes the double-standard: When the Left attacks the videogame industry, this is “activism”; when gamers fight back, this is “harassment.” Likewise, when left-wing outfits use the past words of conservatives to brand them racist, this is “research”; when the tables are turned, liberals call it “trolling.”

This proglodyte tactic is merely a signature symptom of the eternal childishness of the Left. ‘Mommeee! Johnny hit me back!’
