Baltimore is the city ZMan calls ‘Lagos on the Chesapeake’.
The 69-year-old mayor is under investigation by the Maryland Office of the State Prosecutor after selling her books to University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) for $500,000 while on the system’s board.
Baltimore City Council members called on Pugh to resign in an April 8 letter. Pugh’s office said she “fully intends” to return to her position, The Baltimore Sun reported.
Urban corruption appears to be stereotypically Democrat; certainly Republicans have been caught with their hands in the cookie jar (especially in Illinois, thanks, I suspect, to the Chicago influence), but Democrats certainly seem to comprise over 95% of them. The great political machines — Tweed in New York, Pendergast in Kansas City, Daley in Chicago — were all Democratic.
Much of the gold was not recorded in the exports of African states. Five trade economists interviewed by Reuters said this indicates large amounts of gold are leaving Africa with no taxes being paid to the states that produce them.
That’s what really burns their asses — the government isn’t getting to wet its beak. That’s what makes it a ‘black market’.
Whenever you see the term ‘black market’, it indicates that some government isn’t getting its cut.

For the millions of third-party sellers on Amazon’s marketplace, maintaining a successful business is a constant battle to rank high in search results, collect positive product reviews, and keep up with Amazon when it releases its own branded versions of sellers’ most successful products. This intense competition has led to the emergence of a secretive, lucrative black market where agents peddle “black hat” services, sometimes obtained by bribing Amazon employees, that purportedly give marketplace sellers an advantage over their rivals, according to documents obtained by BuzzFeed News.
This is from BuzzFeed so I’d want to get it confirmed from another source.

San Francisco – thanks to its balmy year-round climate and hospitable reputation – has long suffered from growing homelessness which, despite the city’s nosebleed-inducing taxes, it has been unable to curtail. This led to articles such our recent piece documenting the city’s 132,562 cases of human feces on city streets. As we noted then, San Francisco hosts an estimated homeless population of 7,500 people. As a result, affluent sections of the city have become borderline dangerous with open-air drug use, tens of thousands of discarded needles, and, sadly, overflowing human excrement.

Russia has launched a new submarine that will carry underwater nuclear torpedoes capable of devastating enemy coastlines with a tsunami wave up to 500 meters (1,600 ft) that can leave behind radioactive isotopes, according to NBC News and US-Govt. funded outlet RFE/RL.
If they work, which Russian weapons sometimes do and sometimes don’t.
Let’s see — coastal cities at risk. I don’t think I have a problem with that.
But, still, it’s probably Trump’s fault.

As has been obvious for some time now, “diversity” is an Orwellian term that means everyone looks different, but thinks the same. The enforced narrow conformity of the diversicrats cannot survive the real world for very long (college campuses, being insulated from reality, are another matter), and sure enough, it appears that James Damore, the software engineer fired from Google for doubleplusungoodwrongthink about diversity, will have to share his cell at the Diversity Re-Education Kamp (DREK for short) with some renegade anti-social criminals at Microsoft.

California’s minimum wage increase has cost the state thousands of jobs worth of growth in the state’s booming restaurant industry, according to a recent study by the University of California Riverside.
California passed a bill in 2016 to bring the state’s minimum wage up to $15 an hour. For businesses with more than 25 employees, the state’s minimum wage rose to $12 in January and will hit $15 in January of 2022. Other businesses have until 2023 before the full $15-an-hour minimum takes effect.
If you raise the price of something, people buy less of it. That’s elementary economics, about as elementary as it gets.
Markets work, even when you don’t want them to.

In Seattle, people are losing patience with city leadership over the homelessness crisis, but the frustration is running in both directions: the city’s political, cultural, and academic elites are conducting their own revolt—against the people.
Since the release of Eric Johnson’s documentary Seattle Is Dying, which depicts an epidemic of street homelessness, addiction, crime, and disorder, city elites have launched a coordinated information campaign targeted at voters frustrated with the city’s response to homelessness. Earlier this month, leaked documents revealed that a group of prominent nonprofits—the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Campion Advocacy Fund, the Raikes Foundation, and the Ballmer Group—hired a PR firm, Pyramid Communications, to conduct polling, create messaging, and disseminate the resulting content through a network of silent partners in academia, the press, government, and the nonprofit sector. The campaign, #SeattleForAll, is a case study in what writer James Lindsay calls “idea laundering”—creating misinformation and legitimizing it as objective truth through repetition in sympathetic media.

Central American migrants apprehended at the border claimed to have been encouraged by local newspaper advertisements that promised work opportunities and free assistance from the U.S. government.
“The whole word knows, they put it in the news. They tell us everywhere if you come to the United States, they’ll help you,” said a Honduran woman apprehended at the southern border near the Rio Grande Valley. Speaking to CBS 4 news, a local news outlet, she and her family claimed they decided to make the trek to the U.S.-Mexico border after seeing several advertisements.

While funding remains an issue, former U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Joe diGenova agreed with Judd’s assessment that the administration can resettle immigrants wherever they choose. He pointed to the refugee resettlement programs under the Obama administration, including a secret deal with Australia wherein refugees were reportedly taken in by Arizona, Texas, California, Oregon and New York.
Former Republican Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal claimed in 2015 that he was not informed that refugees were being resettled in his state as the Obama administration announced plans to take in another 10,000 Syrian refugees.
“Under the Obama administration these same groups of people with the same legal status were sent to cities and states secretly without notifying those states and cities through the Obama administration working with NGOs,” diGenova said. “And if the states tried to find out where they were being sent they were told, ‘you’re not allowed to know.’”
“That’s the precedent. They did it and they did it without telling people. At least the president is being honest about it,” diGenova added.

Ask yourself how ‘African migrants’ got to the Texas border.
I don’t think that they swam.

How is this a surprise? Buttigieg thinks that an active homosexual can be a good Christian. That he is ignorant of basic economics is the least of his deficiencies.

Why? Because there is a general expectation in Mexico and Latin America that American immigration law is unenforced. Or it is so bizarre that simple illegal entry almost always ensures temporary legal residence, pending an asylum hearing.
A scheduled asylum hearing, in turn, is seen by border crossers as a mere formality to be ignored. The popular perception on the border, then, is to stick one foot illegally onto U.S. soil, and, presto, win permanent residence for you and any family members who wish to follow.

Chao led the five-year project, combing through decades of census data, national survey responses, and birth records to build models that could estimate national sex ratios across time. In doing so, she and her collaborators at the United Nations discovered that in most regions of the world, sex ratios diverge significantly from the historical norm. Across a dozen countries, the chasm amounts to 23.1 million missing female births since 1970. The results, published today in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, provide an unprecedented look at how societal values can skew the laws of nature.
I don’t see why they’re so confused. When people can abort unwanted babies, those in countries whose cultures value males over females are going to get rid of the ones they don’t want.

Emmanuel Deshawn Aranda, 24, was allegedly angry because women kept rejecting him and wanted to kill an adult before going for the child, The Associated Press reported Monday.
ZMan, in his podcast last week, went down the list of Newsweek’s ‘top ten best American cities to live in’, looking at the top seven or eight, and pointed out that off of them were at least 70% white. Perhaps people like Aranda are the reason.
