After the incident, the alleged victim followed the man home in his car, hoping to identify him, and was later tipped off that the alleged assailant was Quinn Chasan, who according to his LinkedIn is employed by Google as, “Head of Customer Analytics, Google Cloud, U.S. Government.”

A U.S. attorney clarified the status of the illegal alien who fatally shot Kate Steinle in San Francisco in 2015, saying he “has no right to possess a firearm under federal law, even if California extends him sanctuary.”

David Anderson, the U.S. attorney in San Francisco, issued the scathing statement in response to a California appeals court’s decision Friday to overturn a gun possession conviction against Jose Inez Garcia-Zarate, a 48-year-old Mexican national who admitted to holding the gun that killed Steinle.

Garcia-Zarate was convicted on state charges Nov. 28, 2017, on one count of felony possession of a firearm in connection with Steinle’s July 1, 2015, death. He was acquitted on first-degree murder, second-degree murder and manslaughter charges at the trial.

Many shops owned by ‘foreigners’ were looted on a second night of urban rioting where hundreds of people marched through the streets on Monday in an unusually large expression of anti-foreigner sentiment.

“Zoe Quinn” was Patient Zero of the #GamerGate controversy. A tattoo-covered, mentally ill ex-stripper whose real name is Chelsea Van Valkenburg, Quinn was the creator of a tediously dull game called “Depression Quest.” She broke up with her boyfriend, a software geek named Eron Gjoni, and allegedly became intimate with a videogame journalist named Nathan Grayson. In August 2014, Gjoni published a nearly 10,000-word article exposing Quinn’s alleged misconduct.

Every time she makes news, I get a surge of traffic because of that concise biographical summary, and this week the cause of the traffic surge was that Zoe had accused an ex-boyfriend, Alec Holowka, of abusing her when they lived together briefly in Winnipeg in 2009. As a result of her accusation, Holowka was fired from the game-development company he had co-founded and then Saturday, Holowka committed suicide.

Mayor Bill de Blasio has aggressively pushed a bike-friendly agenda, adding about 100 miles of dedicated lanes for cyclists amid a spike in rider collisions, but he’s done little to address the danger that bikers themselves pose.

Since 2011, bicyclists have injured more than 2,250 pedestrians — including at least seven who died — according to stats from the city Department of Transportation and published reports.

Ceuta is one of two Spanish enclaves (the other being Melilla) on the coast of North Africa, bordering on Morocco. Migrants from further south in Africa are particularly drawn to these enclaves, since they offer a land border with the EU, and obviate the dangerous sea journey across the Mediterranean. We are seeing open warfare between various feminist and other progressive factions on social media and in the universities. A key divide is between so-called gender critical feminists and trans activists. Professional scholars might once have been expected to bring a degree of moderation and clarity to these sorts of debates but many of the worst offenders are academics. This is hardly surprising given that higher education in the humanities and social sciences has long been dominated by ideologues and their acolytes. Independent thinking on controversial issues is generally not encouraged and in many instances is simply not tolerated.

A former classmate from Yale recently told me “monogamy is kind of outdated” and not good for society. So I asked her what her background is and if she planned to marry.

She said she comes from an affluent family and works at a well-known technology company. Yes, she personally intends to have a monogamous marriage — but quickly added that marriage shouldn’t have to be for everyone.

She was raised by a traditional family. She planned on having a traditional family. But she maintained that traditional families are old-fashioned and society should “evolve” beyond them.

What could explain this?

In the past, upper-class Americans used to display their social status with luxury goods. Today, they do it with luxury beliefs.

I suspect that a lot of it is just teenage rebellion hardening into habit, as with the Parlor Pink ‘socialism’ of the affluent throughout the 20th century. Like people who go to church because everybody else they know does but who do whatever they want during the week, there is no actual connection between What I Say and What I Do. They say what they say because they are expected to say it; they do what they do because that’s what they want. The hypocrisy of wealthy environmentalists is an enduring cliché, and it’s so endemic that people almost expect it.

The fall-out continues from Bill Maher’s HBO show this weekend. Yesterday I wrote about an opinion he expressed during Friday’s Real Time with Bill Maher – a recession would be worth it to get rid of President Trump in 2020. That idea put into a discussion with his panel of guests was deeply disturbing as it showed Maher’s willingness to wish harm to Americans to satisfy his political hopes.

Political partisanship is always about winning rather than improving. If one’s position is that one’s opponent’s proposal is defective, your natural incentive is to demonstrate it in reality by working to make sure that said proposal fails. This is an inevitable component of human nature.

Tlaib certainly knows that there is no chance that her ‘base’ will agree to boycott Maher’s show, but she only has a limited toolbox to work with.

Maher has supported so many left-wing bullshit purity tests over the years that it’s a puzzle why he objects to this one.

They say there’s a smartphone app for everything, and doubters should know there are now at least two dealing with excrement on the sidewalks of San Francisco. The city has its official SF311 app, part of its “San Francisco at your Service” program, and last year a private developer introduced Snapcrap, which allows residents to upload a photo of an offending specimen directly to the SF311 website. This alerts the city’s new five-person “poop patrol,” which will follow up, presumably, with a smile.
