The U.S. Supreme Court said in 2008, when it upheld Indiana’s voter ID law, “that not only is the risk of voter fraud real but that it could affect the outcome of a close election.” It seems we have a perfect example of this in Compton City, California, where felony voter fraud charges have been filed against six defendants, including a member of the Compton City Council, Isaac Galvan, by the Los Angeles County district attorney.

Talk about a close election! Galvan won his city council race in 2021 by only one vote, 855 to 854. Not only have all of the defendants been charged with conspiracy to commit election fraud, but Galvan is also accused of attempting to bribe an election official with concert tickets to “influence” the outcome of the election.

Winning an argument is good. Seeing your antagonists exposed as fools is also good. But is victory so sweet, if won at such cost? An absolute catastrophe is now unfolding in Afghanistan because the guy that all the Smart People™ told us would Restore Our Precious Norms has turned out to be a blundering dimwit. And as much as we enjoy this vindication — “We told you so, you damned fools!” — it does not alleviate the horror of watching America’s reputation go up in a cloud of smoke.

The United States’ military mission in Afghanistan has collapsed in chaos and ignominy. The catastrophe has many parents. But surely “the experts” upon which our leader relied bear much blame.

They were the ones who often failed to comprehend the power of religious belief and the role pride in Islam played in the Taliban’s unyielding commitment to victory. They were the ones who thought we could remake Afghanistan into a western liberal image. They were the ones who failed to comprehend the intractable tribal nature of Afghan society.

To say the least, Afghanistan has vividly exposed the utter stupidity of our vaunted foreign policy and national security experts. Our hapless Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, for example, assured us that Kabul would not fall from “Friday to Monday.” He was right. It fell from Friday to Sunday.

There’s not much to say that hasn’t already been said regarding Biden’s unconditional surrender to the Taliban, and it’s only the first week. Bookshelves will be filled with analyses of these events, and we won’t understand their full ramifications for decades. My two cents, for what they’re worth, are that the left doesn’t consider the fall of Kabul and the betrayal of our allies to be a tragedy. Rather, this is deliberate foreign policy strategy, and it’s right on track.

The pattern is clear for those who wish to see. Simply put, the left thinks America is not only evil but irredeemably so. Hence, any policy, be it foreign or domestic, that weakens our nation-state should be pursued, the goal being that the nation-state will eventually corrode to the point of collapse. They don’t care that the hollowed-out dystopia will be long past its desirability for subjugation, so long as they get to be in charge. As Lord Varys said of Littlefinger, “He would see this country burn if he could be king of the ashes”.

To reign is worth ambition, though in Hell;
Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven.

Today just about every part of this plan is illegal, culturally unacceptable, and economically unwieldy in most locations. These basement homes are too small to be approved by local authorities. Minimum square footage requirements have been put in place to filter out the riffraff who can’t afford larger homes. Most municipal codes insist on two off street covered parking spaces which, in this case, would be the same size and likely the same cost as the homes themselves. Growing vegetables on what should be a lawn is verboten in many locations, if not by the government than by private association bylaws. And building anything in stages is frowned upon since the present custom is to create a finished product all at once and never change any part of it without interacting with a host of special committees and review boards. I have no doubt that the four children, now in their 70s and 80s, who spent their early years in the basement house would never tolerate such activity in their own neighborhoods today. It’s just too trashy and sets the wrong tone.

Way back when the Democratic Party stepped into to halt their voters from picking the wrong option, the immediate response from most observers was that Biden would be a caretaker president if he won. Most people, of course, assumed a man with serious cognitive decline was never going to win election, but 2020 was a good reminder that authoritarian regimes have no respect for the general will. Biden was installed as the short-term answer to their Trump problem.

How long he lasted was assumed to be a function of his ability to stand up and read the lines provided by the script writers. The “long Biden” camp said he would serve out his term, but not run for re-election. Harris or maybe someone else would be the nominee for 2024 with his blessing. The “short-Biden” camp said he would be lucky to make it to the midterm. His cognitive decline would become so obvious that he would be forced out one way or another and Harris would take over.

There was always another element to the politics that was pushed to the background in the excitement to depose Trump. The left-liberals have not been unified in a long time and the Biden-Harris ticket was a compromise between the two main factions. The one faction is the Obama side. If you look at the people around Biden in his campaign and his White House, they are mostly Obama loyalists. On the other hand, Harris was surrounded by Clinton people and remains so as VP.

There is no border crisis. Inflation is not happening and if it is it must be Trump’s fault. We must suppress energy development to prevent climate change then lobby OPEC to pump more oil. There is no such thing as critical race theory but also it is racist to oppose mandating it. Ignore whatever we said a few days or weeks before about COVID, and instead, believe whatever we think we just said. Are things getting out completely of hand? The U.S. military withdrawal from Afghanistan has quickly become the most embarrassing national security debacle since the Vietnam War. Perhaps more importantly, however, the debacle is one of the most inclusive of its kind in American history.

The Biden administration’s Afghanistan policy may have failed in the conventional sense, but it was remarkably successful in terms of the gender and racial diversity of the individuals responsible for that failure. Many will die as a result, but blame for their deaths will be shared among an impressive array of female and BIPOC officials. All in all, this was a triumph of American exceptionalism.

Our diversity is our enemies’ strength.

The public, if consulted, gets them “right” about as often as the refs get the calls right, if only because, like the majority of balls and strikes etc., most times the “right” call is pretty obvious. Just to take one recent example, “our” ingnominious (a word this iteration of WordPress insists is a typo, how ya like that?) retreat from Afghanistan. Had the public been consulted at any point after the first, whack-’em-with-SF stage, none of the subsequent bullshit would’ve happened.

Is “nation-building” a viable thing in one of the world’s most backward places? Of course not. Any idiot can see that. Put the facts fairly to The People, let them vote on it, and the war is over by spring 2004.

The key concept with ‘democracy’ is not that The Peepul will get it right all of the time — they won’t, you know that and I know that — but that they get to decide, be they right or wrong, it’s their decision to make.

“All of those classes are primarily focused on teaching our nation’s young men and women Marxism in the name of ‘social equality,’” the military official told The Washington Times, speaking on condition of anonymity.

These are not Marxism but rather Progressivism, which, although they are fellow-travelers in the modern world, are actually distinct. Nevertheless, it is a disturbing thing.

Rep. Andy Biggs filed articles of impeachment against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on Tuesday, accusing him of refusing to enforce laws against migrants illegal crossing the border, The Washington Times reported.

The Arizona Republican said in a statement that the country “is more in danger today” than when Mayorkas took office. He also insisted that the secretary “is failing to faithfully uphold his oath of office and is presiding over a reckless abandonment of border security and immigration enforcement, at the expense of the U.S. Constitution and the security of the United States.”

The statement added that “under his direction, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) “is systematically releasing COVID-19 positive aliens into our communities, subjecting the American people to unnecessary and avoidable risks.”

Democratic governor Kate Brown of Oregon signed a bill last month that drops the requirement that high schoolers prove they can read, write, and do math at a basic high school level in order to graduate.

The bill, which the Democratic legislature passed in June in a mostly party-line vote, suspends Oregon’s high school graduation requirements for at least five years as the state works to reform its high school standards. A spokesman for the governor’s office told the Oregonian that suspending the proficiency requirements will benefit “Oregon’s Black, Latino, Latina, Latinx, Indigenous, Asian, Pacific Islander, Tribal, and students of color.”
