Two teenagers were arrested this week for an alleged plot to drive through a Houston synagogue and “kill as many Jews as possible,” according to local authorities.

Angelina Han Hicks, 18, of Lexington, North Carolina, was arrested at her home on Wednesday and charged with conspiring with two other individuals to commit an attack on Congregation Beth Israel, the oldest Jewish house of worship in Texas, according to the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office. She is being held in the Davidson County jail under a $10 million bond.

In Houston, a 16-year-old boy was also arrested in relation to “a threat directed towards certain Jewish institutions in our area.” It was unclear whether the second arrest was connected to Hicks, but the judge who ordered Hicks detained said she should be prevented from communicating with unnamed co-conspirators.

“At this time, there is no other known credible threat,” the Houston Police Department said in a statement.

An interesting report in The Atlantic, of all places, on Monday highlighted how the San Francisco Bay Area, like a broken clock, finally hit on a good idea.

The Bay Area Rapid Transit system, which for years has been plagued by low ridership and dysfunction, has apparently had a huge turnaround.

The Atlantic’s Henry Grabar noted, with some surprise, that all it took was one simple trick: Last year, BART widely installed new fare gates by station exits and entrances.

These new and improved gates made fare evasion dramatically more difficult than it was with the old 1970s-style, waist-high gates. I can’t even count the number of times I’ve seen fare evaders effortlessly hop over those old gates as if they weren’t even there.

The effect of just this one change has been staggering, apparently. Crime is way down 41% since last year, according to BART’s numbers—and maintenance costs have plummeted.

It’s no secret that female insecurity rules almost everything women do politically. One could say that feminism is essentially the weaponization of female insecurity as a means to gain power over society.

The latest trend to spew from the bowels of feminist activism is called “Catching Print” – Activists claim men are objectifying and shaming women, so women should objectify and shame men…by staring at and rating men’s junk. The problem is, these people don’t seem to understand that the vast majority of men simply don’t care.

President Trump’s endorsement of Steve Hilton for governor of California earlier this month has sent the Democratic establishment into predictable convulsions.

Katie Porter, one of the leading Democratic hopefuls, declared that the race now boils down to a stark choice: “California values against MAGA.” Others called Hilton a “Trump puppet.” The implication is clear: Any candidate endorsed by President Trump is a dangerous interloper foisting flyover-country extremism on the enlightened progressive utopia that is modern California.

One wonders what these “California values” actually are. The term is invoked with the same pious certainty once reserved for the Ten Commandments, yet the state it supposedly defines is America’s poster child for policy-induced decline.

Under one-party Democratic rule (with legislative majorities dating back decades and a full trifecta since 2011), California boasts the highest state income tax in the country, the highest gas prices, and among the most punitive regulations on business and housing. It leads the nation in homelessness while spending billions with little visible result.

The Soros group, Fund for Policy Reform, pumped a whopping $50 million into his political cash guzzler Democracy PAC January 13, according to Federal Election Commission filings.

Despite officially handing the reins of his $25 billion Open Society Foundations to his more unhinged acolyte son Alex, the elder Soros is signaling that he has no intention of abandoning his years-long obsession with buying control of the U.S. government for Democrats and politically handicapping his nemesis President Donald Trump. As Forbes magazine contextualized April 16, Soros has once again positioned himself as the largest midterm election donor so far.

There has been growing criticism (and falling poll numbers) of Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger after she ran as a moderate and then immediately veered to the far left after her election. Once in power, Spanberger and the Democrats unleashed a slew of tax increases, moved to eliminate all but one Republican district in the purple state, passed an array of anti-gun laws, and enacted other controversial measures. One of these measures is a clearly unconstitutional effort to strip pro-Confederate groups of their tax exemption.

This week, Spanberger signed HB167, the law that eliminated the tax exemption for various confederacy-linked groups, including the Virginia Division of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, the General Organization of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, the Confederate Memorial Literary Society, the Stonewall Jackson Memorial, Incorporated, the Virginia Division, Sons of Confederate Veterans, and the J.E.B. Stuart Birthplace Preservation Trust, Inc.

Notably, as soon as they came into power, Democrats also passed House Bill 1377 to move against the Virginia Military Institute, including appointing a task force that could effectively close the historic school. Many Democrats have previoulsy sought to close VMI despite its unique and inspiring history in training some of our most famous military leaders, including General George Marshall. Liberals want to close the school due to its history from the Civil War.

By analyzing home prices, rental costs, and average property sizes across 40 large cities, the study shows where Americans are paying the most for the least amount of living space. This approach offers a clearer picture of value, emphasizing how much space residents actually receive for their money rather than just the overall cost of buying or renting a home.

At the center of this trend is San Francisco, which ranks as the most expensive housing market in the country for both buyers and renters. Homebuyers in the city pay more than $1,000 per square foot on average, with a typical home costing around $1.24 million for just over 1,100 square feet. Renters face similar challenges, with average monthly rents exceeding $3,500. Despite these high costs, the amount of space available remains limited, meaning residents often pay a premium for relatively small living areas. This imbalance between price and space has made San Francisco the clearest example of how housing value has eroded in dense urban markets.

Just behind San Francisco is San Jose, which actually surpasses it in terms of price per square foot for homebuyers. In San Jose, the average cost exceeds $1,200 per square foot, pushing typical home prices to around $1.4 million. The rental market is similarly expensive, with monthly costs rivaling those in San Francisco. These high prices are largely driven by strong demand tied to the region’s technology sector, where high salaries continue to fuel competition for limited housing supply. The Center to Advance Security in America “filed a request for review with the IRS of the tax-exempt status of Code Pink, an extreme organization that regularly engages in potentially illegal activities, including vandalism, blockades of U.S. military facilities, and regularly disrupting federal proceedings,” CASA Director James Fitzpatrick told The Daily Signal in a statement Tuesday.

“Code Pink is also intertwined in an opaque global network of nonprofit funding with ties to the Chinese Communist Party,” he added. “They engage in violent antisemitic demonstrations and have even appeared with individuals waving the flag of Hezbollah.”

“The American people demand an immediate investigation into this urgent matter,” Fitzpatrick concluded. “Hard-earned tax dollars should not be spent funding organizations that may be refusing to adhere to the law.”

Dozens of boats carrying activists and symbolic humanitarian aid for Palestinians in Gaza have set sail from Barcelona after a weather-related delay, according to organisers.

Representatives of the Global Sumud Flotilla claimed that more than 70 boats and over 1,000 participants from around the world are expected to join the mission. Nearly 40 vessels departed from Barcelona, while others are expected to join from additional Mediterranean ports as the convoy sails eastward.

The departure had originally been planned for April 12th but was delayed due to bad weather. Organiser Thiago Ávila told a news conference in Barcelona that the fleet was able to leave once conditions improved.

It may soon do the same for the free exercise of religion. New York is now going head-to-head with a group of Dominican nuns over a law challenged as unconstitutional. New York Gov. Kathy Hochul and the state are being sued over a law that forces religious organizations to adhere to LGBTQ policies.

Mother Marie Edward, O.P., explained to Fox News Digital that they will not set their faith aside under the threat of fines, loss of licensing and even jail time. She noted that they ask nothing from the state and ask to be allowed to offer charity without abandoning their religious principles.

For decades, public-sector unions ran on automatic – automatic dues collection, automatic membership, automatic political spending – whether the worker wanted it or not.

The National Education Association confiscated $390 million in dues revenue during the most recent fiscal year from nearly 2.9 million members – most of it seized directly from taxpayer-funded paychecks before the workers could even see it.

In California alone, public education unions are estimated to collect more than $800 million per year. That money doesn’t come from convincing workers the union is worth it. It comes from a system designed so workers never had to be asked.

When the Supreme Court exposed their scheme in Janus, unions had to find other ways to keep the cash spigot open — including literally criminalizing their opposition.

Signs that read, “Don’t Fairfax Me” and “Vote No,” are reportedly prevalent in rural Virginia for good reason. Virginia Democrats’ redistricting campaign aims to disenfranchise rural Virginians. The referendum, which would split heavily populated Fairfax County across five congressional districts, is a deceptive power grab.

Farfax county Virginia used to be where the Republicans who worked in DC would commute from, while the Democrats lived in Maryland. Apparently DC is overflowing Democrats these days.

If the election of Abigail Spanberger as governor of Virginia has proven anything, it’s that there are no more “moderate” Democrats. Since taking office in January, Spanberger has been ramming through a left-wing agenda that might be more suitable to Berkeley, California, than to the Old Dominion, and the very worst of it is the proposal to redistrict Virginia’s congressional map by an outrageous partisan gerrymander. Among the many atrocities of this is the proposed 7th District, which would stretch all the way from the Potomac River in Arlington County to Harrisonburg in the Shenandoah Valley and down to Powhatan County, below the James River 30 miles west of Richmond.

Since most of the Republican areas of the state appear to be in the west, perhaps they might take a hint from the Greater Idaho Movement and attempt to leave Virginia for West Virginia. After all, there is precedent.

Wolfson ran on the pledge to make AAUP a “fighting organization” for social change.

After his selection, Wolfson has called Trump supporters “fascists” and demanded boycotts of Israel.

The Trump administration on Friday fired two judges who blocked the deportations of international students involved in pro-Palestinian activism.

One of the judges, Roopal Patel, a Boston immigration court judge, oversaw the Trump administration’s immigration case against Rümeysa Öztürk, a Turkish Tufts University doctoral student who was detained by ICE agents on the street in Somerville last March.

In February, Patel found there were no grounds to deport her, following a months-long legal battle with the Trump administration and opposition to her arrest from Jewish students and groups.

The other judge fired on Friday, Nina Froes of Chelmsford, Massachusetts, blocked the deportation of Mohsen Mahdawi, a pro-Palestinian student activist at Columbia University and green card holder from the West Bank, in February.

To be clear, these aren’t real judges, i.e. appointed and confirmed under Article III of the Constitution. The immigration ‘courts’ are administrative civil courts within the Department of Justice.

The European Commission is moving toward a historic revival of emergency energy taxes as the 2026 Iran War sends fuel prices into a vertical climb.

Under intense pressure from a coalition of five member states—Austria, Germany, Italy, Portugal, and Spain—Brussels is currently assessing a new bloc-wide “windfall profit tax” on the oil and gas industry.

The move mirrors the 2022 “solidarity contribution” sparked by the Russia-Ukraine war, but with a critical new dimension: ministers are now demanding that the tax also capture the foreign profits of multinational energy giants.

The first woman to serve as a Chancery judge was appointed in 1984.when the court expended to four judges. She retired in 1994. A second female judge served from 2015-2019. There are now seven judges, four of them women, including the first woman to serve as Chancellor, Kathleen St. Jude McCormick appointed in 2021.

Delaware has been well-known for being a jurisdiction with laws favorable to those entrusted with corporate governance. One of the significant advantages of Delaware incorporation has been the highly professional, predictable, jury-free work of the Chancery Court staffed with highly qualified specialists in corporate law. It is still the case that the judges and magistrates on the Chancery Court have impeccable credentials.

There is no corporate tax in Delaware. There have been no significant adverse legislative changes. So why have a significant number of big firms such as Tesla, Dropbox, Coinbase, the Trump Media Group and other tech firms suddenly re-incorporated in Nevada, Florida or Texas? It is understandable that firms would flee California’s tax and regulatory predation, but what has changed in Delaware?

In a controversial and apparently diagnostic ruling, Chancellor McCormick agreed with a plaintiff shareholder that Elon Musk’s Tesla compensation package violated a fairness standard even though it had been approved by the board in accordance with company rules and procedures. The Delaware Supreme Court overruled her and found her assumption that Musk must have exerted undo influence violated the rather basic principle of law that the plaintiff must prove his case and by implication that the defendant is not required to overcome the inclinations of the judge.

Housing costs in New York City have reached a level that many people can no longer afford. The response has been to push for more control—limits on rent increases and expanded tenant protections. The intention is clear. However, housing markets respond to incentives, not intentions.

Under Zohran Mamdani, New York City is moving further in that direction.

The focus is on limiting rent increases, expanding tenant protections, and increasing the role of government in the housing market.

The policy has not fully taken effect yet. Once these rules interact with rising costs, the housing market will respond to the incentives.

Rent control keeps rents down, but it does not keep costs down for the landlord.

There is no cap on insurance premiums. Property taxes can still rise year after year. Maintenance and labor costs continue to climb as well. As those costs rise, landlords are forced to adjust. Some delay maintenance. Others see their margins get too thin to justify the risk.

Economics 101: Leftists need not apply.

Zul Mirza Mohamed, according to the media, is a “Texas man” who was convicted of mail-in fraud in the 2020 election while he was running for mayor of the town of Carrolton.

If you don’t know, there are huge numbers of migrants being pumped into Denton, just north of Dallas, and the surrounding towns.

Mohamed pled guilty to the crime and was sentenced to four years in prison and 10 years probation in December 2024.

HOWEVER, Mohamed then filed for appeal one month later.

Instead of making him wait in jail, a judge allowed him out on bond. More than a year later, he’s still out on bond, living as free as a bird. All a man named “Mohamed” has to do to get out of jail is say the American Constitution protects him from the consequences of his own crimes, I guess.

The Netherlands’ Ministry of Education has wasted an incredible €40,000—not far off the average annual gross salary—of taxpayer cash on a language guide for civil servants, which advises them to call Father’s Day and Mother’s Day ‘You Day.’

This guide “against discrimination and racism” is, Dutch daily De Telegraaf reports, intended to ensure that officials “include families of all shapes and sizes” in their communications.

It has received sharp criticism, including from former MEP Rob Roos, who described the guide as “WOKE S**T,” and as “evidence that we can save a hell of a lot on civil servants.”

Even Education Secretary Judith Tielen, who belongs to the same liberal (VVD) party as new Prime Minister Rob Jetten, branded the guide “patronising.” She admitted that it was “not necessarily the best” tool—raising the question of who is actually in charge at the ministry.

Writer Marieke Hoogwout lamented that “when the government dictates which words must be used, those in power control the language.” This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, given that the administration is also working to hand the police more powers to monitor citizens online, even when there are no concrete suspicions of criminal activity.

Author Klaas Wilting said the language guide showed that “the Hague has gone absolutely bonkers, and that bonkers nonsense costs money too.”

What kind of crazy characters came up with this. Before you know it, kids won’t be allowed to call their dad or mom dad/mom anymore.

The document also discourages the use of the words “white” and “Golden Age,” and proposes the capitalisation of “black,” especially when referring to “shared cultural identity.”

A recent poll found that a clear majority of Americans favor limiting politics in the classroom. This is bad news for teachers’ unions, who often advocate against that very thing.

Consider the American Federation of Teachers (AFT). With 1.8 million members, the AFT is one of the largest teachers’ unions in the country. It has gained prominence less for advancing classroom outcomes and more for engaging in political activism far removed from instruction. This political activism has been evident recently, as illustrated by AFT president Randi Weingarten speaking at a “No Kings” protest in Minnesota and the organization’s increasing focus on anti-ICE efforts.

Taken together, these developments reveal a widening gap between teachers’ unions and both the public and the educators they claim to represent. Rather than focusing on classroom instruction and professional support, large unions have increasingly prioritized ideological activism, often at the expense of students, parents, and even their own members.

Teachers’ unions should focus solely on supporting educators, students, and their families. On paper, this may be what many teachers’ unions claim to do. The mission of the AFT, for example, is to “champion fairness; democracy; economic opportunity; and high-quality public education.” But there’s a difference between theory and practice. Realistically, the actions of larger teachers’ unions, such as the AFT, aren’t aligned with these objectives.

Adamantly pushing political agendas—such as LGBTQ+ practices or advocating for biological boys to be able to compete in girls’ sports—in schools across the country doesn’t give students a high-quality education. Instead, it takes time away from students learning how to read or write critically and authentically.

In addition, using member dues to lobby for left-wing causes or endorse political campaigns doesn’t benefit teachers. Staunchly opposing education choice such as education savings accounts ultimately hinders parents’ freedom to make the right decisions concerning their children’s education.

Unions also have a track record for keeping kids out of the classroom. Oftentimes, when school strikes are encouraged by the unions, students and families are the ones who pay the price.

In my last Wyoming wind power article I noted a National Audubon Society warning that the growing masses of wind farms could be “population sinks” for golden eagles. This means that many eagles will be attracted to them, to then be killed by them.

Digging into the scientific literature I found that this is a well recognized wildlife management issue. It usually goes by the name “ecological trap.” Since being trapped means being killed I think ecological death trap is more appropriate.

In fact Wyoming wind power is a double death trap for golden eagles. First, as Audubon says, when the local eagles are killed this creates a sparsely populated area which other eagles will then come into. Eagles like most birds try to spread out, probably to maintain the local food supply for their hatchlings. These new eagles are then also killed and the cycle is repeated in a true death spiral.

In addition wind farms kill a lot of other birds as well as a huge number of bats. Golden eagles are scavengers so they are attracted by this abundant food supply. In fact being struck by cars while eating road kill is a major cause of golden eagle death.

Gov. Josh Shapiro keeps repeating the claim that Pennsylvania is the only growing state in the Northeast. But that’s not true.

Residents continue to leave Pennsylvania for greener pastures. New data from the Internal Revenue Service shows that Pennsylvania lost 15,000 residents on net to other states in 2023. Those residents took with them $2.3 billion in annual income.

This outmigration spans all age groups, but it is especially pronounced among working-age professionals and higher-income earners. These are the very people who drive economic growth. And they are leaving for more-competitive states, such as Florida, Texas, and the Carolinas.
