Townhall published a documentary on X, formerly known as Twitter, titled “David vs. Goliath: Big Government’s War on an Amish Farmer.” The film shows big government raiding the business of a small-town Amish farmer tucked away in Virginia’s heartland.
Samuel B. Fisher and his family farm, Golden Valley Farms, was raided unannounced in June by the Virginia Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services (VDACS) and Cumberland County sheriff’s deputy for selling meat from his 100-acre farm because the meat was not processed in a United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) facility.
“They went through everything, house, every building, in the barn. They just raided through everything, put their nose in everything, and wanted to know every detail of everything. They went out back, trying to find all the failure they can find on a farm, which, of course, some of their stuff, which they think is wrong, is just normal stuff on a farm,” Fisher stated.
“I wasn’t on the farm at the time” of the raid that lasted four hours, Fisher added.

I recently had occasion to take the “White Privilege Test” endorsed by the black Lives Matter movement, and was thunderstruck, but not surprised, to find that none of the questions, not a single one, had anything to do with anything that could honestly be called a privilege.
This leads to a serious conundrum. What is White Privilege?
An even more serious question is this: How can anyone take such a silly question seriously?

Ever since the Brexit-cum-Trump dual shock of 2016, most of the international press has resorted to labeling candidates and causes to the right of establishment liberal-conservatism as “far-right,” “fringe,” or even “extreme.” To the extent these national-populist leaders have challenged entrenched orthodoxies on free trade and relatively free migration, this media hysteria is partly warranted. But what happens when the shock comes not from a conservative populist like Donald Trump, Viktor Orbán, or Jair Bolsonaro but from a dyed-in-the-wool libertarian? Someone who, taken at his word, wants not to bury but to revive a more radical version of the same neoliberal dogmas of yore about a limited state and the rejection of protectionism?

Inside Trump’s Decision to Skip the G.O.P. Debate (N.Y. Times) Of course, the notion that anybody writing for the NYT could possibly fathom what’s ‘inside Trump’s decision’ to go to the bathroom, much less skip the GOP debate, is ludicrous.
Why Trump might regret passing on the first debate (Politico) I’m betting that he shows up at the last minute, says something like “I thought I was going to get indicted today, but I didn’t, so I decided to show up here”, and turn over the game board. The press would go nuts, and would pay no attention to the other candidates.

So throughout the Oberlin/Gibson’s litigation I kept thinking: It looks like it wouldn’t take much effort by the college to restore the Gibsons’ satisfaction and to get them to drop the lawsuit. Make a perfunctory statement about the good faith of the Gibsons (especially since the shoplifters admitted guilt and said they didn’t believe race played any role in their apprehension). Agree for the college to continue buying products at about the rate the college bought them before the dispute. Agree to put Gibson’s on a “recommended vendor” list for outside organizations that meet on or use college facilities. Instead, the college dug in its heels, going full “scorched earth” in public relations and in litigation, cutting off business relations with Gibson’s, urging others in town to cut off business relations with Gibson’s, and making or encouraging others to make unfounded accusations against Gibson’s and the Gibson family.
The lawsuit verdict appears largely a consequence of the unreasonable behavior of the college. So I find it amusingly ironic that the college is now asserting that the insurance companies should have been more reasonable.
