They story arc of the climatistas goes as follows: It started out as “global warming” in the 1980s. But that term was abandoned in favor of “climate change,” since it enabled the climate campaign to account for inconvenient things like cold weather. (Aside: initially not everyone was on board with “climate change.” I distinctly recall Robert F. Kennedy Jr. calling “climate change” “the deceptive language of anti-environmentalism” about 20 years ago. But he quickly fell in line, no doubt after getting The Memo from Climate Central.)
But “climate change” didn’t do the trick either, so now it’s being called the “climate crisis.” Ooooh, crisis! It doesn’t get any worse than crisis does it? Got do to something radical now now now.
With surveys showing declining public support for the climate crusade despite all the hot and bothered headlines about heat waves, what comes after “climate crisis”? Where is there to go after “crisis”? How do the climatistas turn the panic up to 11?

Every summer we are now treated to “Shark Week” on one of the cable channels, just in time for our beach vacations. And we’re also now treated to “Thermageddon Week” by the climatistas.
Every summer it seems someone discovers that it gets hot. “How hot is it?” (as the crowd would ask Johnny Carson). Always the same answer: Record heat! Climate change. Thermageddon is upon us!

An expatriate German blogger is being hunted by the Woke Stasi for daring to describe the creature of size who co-leads the Green Party as “fat”.
I feel compelled to note that the German word for “fat” is “dick”. It always makes me think of the (now archaic) Australian colloquialism “to crack a fat”. I wonder if the deep structure of our respective languages somehow understands this congruence of meaning.

Washington Free Beacon.
Matthew Desmond, a Princeton sociologist who has won a MacArthur “genius” grant as well as a Pulitzer for his previous book, Evicted, devotes his latest work to expounding a “theory” that will explain “why there is so much poverty in this land of abundance,” the United States. According to Desmond, the American people as a whole are its cause.
Without offering a precise definition or measure of poverty, Desmond laments that America, the world’s richest country, has “more poverty than any other advanced democracy.” (That the United States is also by far the most populous advanced democracy might itself help to explain this alleged fact.) Relying chiefly on a report he had published in 2015, along with statistics issued by the Census Bureau and the OECD, Desmond asserts that “almost one in nine Americans” live in poverty, with over 38 million unable to “afford basic necessities” and another 108 million “getting by on $55,000 a year or less,” “stuck in that space between poverty and security.”
Of course a large majority of the world’s population—including India, Pakistan, Indonesia, China, most of Africa, and much of Latin America—would envy an individual or even a family with an income half that large.

Here’s a Lincoln Project tweet that states some true facts. The same facts stated by MSNBC. These true facts, taken in isolation, are on the order of crying, “my mother died after five minutes alone with that man!” when the man was a priest giving Last Rites to the afflicted mother.

Off-Guardian.
In Part 1 we explored the reasons why the basis for the BBC’s “Marianna in Conspiracyland” podcast series is fundamentally flawed. Spring claims that her intention is to investigate “the people at the core of the conspiracy theory movement.”
Not only is there no such thing a “conspiracy theory movement” nor is their any plausible definition of a “conspiracy theorist.”
“Conspiracy theorist” is just a state propagandist’s label for someone who holds an anti-Establishment opinion that questions power and is sceptical of authority. You can read more about the history of how that “label” came into being here.

Batteries and Renewables Are Saving Texas During the Heat Wave (Forbes) 1. There is no “heat wave”, other then the normal hot weather that hits Texas every summer; 2. Batteries and renewables aren’t “saving” anything or anybody–in fact, relying on “renewables” are making the electrical grid more fragile than ever, as we discovered in Frigid February two years ago. (Which prompted my wife and I to install a gas-powered emergency generator.)

The Critic.
ike a cup of coffee, the Guardian newspaper acts on me in the morning like a tonic, increasing my alertness after sleep. For example, I read the following this morning, shortly after I regained consciousness:
Matt Rowland Hill, 38, is the author of Original Sins, about growing up as the son of a baptist minister before falling into a decade-long addiction to heroin while studying at Oxford.
I have not read Mr Rowland Hill’s book, which I am perfectly prepared to believe is a very good one. But he did not fall into a decade-long addiction; he knowingly chose to become and remain addicted, for whatever reason he might have had. He jumped into it.
The author is not stupid or an ignoramus. It is impossible that he did not know that heroin was addictive before he first took it. One does not become addicted to it on a first dose: most heroin addicts, in fact, take it on and off for some time before they are physically addicted.
