The Canonization of Jimmy Carter Has Officially Gotten Ridiculous

31st December 2024

The Regime Media are stepping over each other to see who can offer the most sycophantic coverage of the legacy of the 39th President of the United States, Jimmy Carter, who passed away yesterday at the age of 100. It appears that a frontrunner has emerged.

Democracy in 2024 Was Noisy and Chaotic. It Was Also Resilient.

29th December 2024

The Washington Poop, a Voice of the Crust.

In the United States, voters chose Donald Trump for a second term with popular-vote and electoral-vote victories, despite dire warnings from his critics that his return to the White House would threaten America’s democratic norms and institutions.

The painful truth is, that for the Narrative Media, ‘democracy’ is merely ‘what Democrats do’, and (as we have all witnessed) Democrats don’t really like Real Democracy all that much.

Trump’s Opportunity to Bring Balance to White House Press Room

29th December 2024

The Foundry.

The incoming Trump White House, including press secretary Karoline Leavitt, is signaling that it wants to revamp the press briefing room. This is an outstanding idea.

Numerous studies show a strained relationship between the national media and conservatives, leading many observers to hope the second Trump administration will proactively ensure that the White House briefing room brings balanced voices to express voters’ concerns.

The first Trump administration was marked by an unusually adversarial relationship with the national media, including inside the White House’s iconic James S. Brady Press Briefing Room.

President-elect Donald Trump’s first press secretary, Sean Spicer, told me that the Trump White House continued a decades-old, informal tradition of allowing the White House Correspondents Association to determine seating assignments in the briefing room.

In the second Trump term, this could all change—for the better.

I’d make them line up and take turns, first come first served. Perhaps the urge to sit down would prompt a bit of concision.

CNN Lefties’ Advice to Democrats: Push DEI and Listen to Bernie Sanders!

28th December 2024

Read it.

Trover had said that Dems are making a bad mistake by ignoring the warnings of people like Joe Manchin and John Fetterman that the party needs to move toward the center and away from being held hostage by the left.

Simmons and leftist CNN analyst and historian Leah Wright Rigueur proceeded to demonstrate the Dems’ stubborn devotion to hard-left positions.

Simmons managed to keep a straight face while claiming that DEI is NOT a progressive policy, but that DEI is “really important” because “it’s going to make America more competitive.”

Right! Because nothing will make America more competitive than advancing people not on their merits, but on their membership in favored racial, gender, and sexual orientation groups!

‘I Am Trying, and Admittedly Failing, to Understand How This Makes Sense’

26th December 2024

The Other McCain.

One should never try to “make sense” of Amanda Marcotte. Ever since she first burst upon the national consciousness in 2007 — as one of two feminists (the other being the execrable Melissa McEwan) hired to blog on behalf of Democratic presidential aspirant John Edwards — Marcotte has been an inspiration for mockery hereabouts, and it is still difficult for me to imagine that anyone actually takes her seriously.

Nevertheless, Dana Pico has undertaken to analyze one of Ms. Marcotte’s recent outbursts, concluding that her enthusiasm for transgender athletes is rooted in a secret fear of inferiority: “To Miss Marcotte, any differences [between men and women] at all are a mark of inferiority, and she just can’t let the facts get in her way.” Yes, exactly so.

The Walmart Effect

25th December 2024

The Atlantic, a Voice of the Crust.

New research suggests that the company makes the communities it operates in poorer—even taking into account its famous low prices.

SUGGESTS! THAT PROVES IT!

Two new research papers challenge that view. Using creative new methods, they find that the costs Walmart imposes in the form of not only lower earnings but also higher unemployment in the wider community outweigh the savings it provides for shoppers. On net, they conclude, Walmart makes the places it operates in poorer than they would be if it had never shown up at all. Sometimes consumer prices are an incomplete, even misleading, signal of economic well-being.

‘Creative new methods’. Uh-huh. Somebody needs to remind these ‘researchers’ that correlation doesn’t imply causation.

CBS Cheers Mexico Targeting U.S. Gun Rights, Blame for Cartel Crime

23rd December 2024

Read it.

Mexico either refuses to or is utterly incapable of getting their drug cartel problem under control as they ravage innocent people. So instead, they’ve chose to shift blame to the United States and target American gun rights in a pair of lawsuits in American courts. In a segment on Sunday’s 60 Minutes, CBS News chose to cheer on Mexico’s effort as they willing pushed foreign propaganda in an effort to tear down Americans’ Second Amendment rights.

“There`s been a lot of talk about stopping the flow of illegal immigration and drugs from Mexico. But few people are talking about another crisis at the border — guns. Specifically, American guns,” chided correspondent Sharyn Alfonsi.

She parroted Mexican talking points that blamed American gun rights for cartel violence, not Mexico’s refusal to crackdown and their rampant corruption. She even suggested that Mexico’s actions against the U.S. could “fix” the “problems” with America’s gun rights:

Debunking the Myth of Oil Refiner Price-Gouging in California

23rd December 2024

Read it.

In 2022, California Governor Gavin Newsom signed SB-1322, the Oil Refiner Price Disclosure Act, into law. The legislation was hailed as a major step toward transparency, requiring refiners in California to report detailed monthly data on their gasoline profit margins. Specifically, refiners must disclose:

The cost of crude oil purchased

The wholesale price of gasoline sold

The gross and net profits earned per gallon of refined gasoline

Supporters, including consumer advocacy groups like Consumer Watchdog, argued that SB-1322 would expose “excessive profits” earned by refiners and hold them accountable amid California’s notoriously high gasoline prices. In fact, as captured in this recent TikTok video from Matt Randolph, Gavin Newsom continues to claim that oil companies are fleecing California consumers.

However, a little over two years after signing the bill into law, the data tells a different story.

Far from uncovering windfall profits, the disclosures reveal razor-thin — and often negative — margins for refiners in the state.

PBS’s Washington Week Won’t Own Up to Previous Praise of Biden’s Mental Acuity

23rd December 2024

Read it.

Washington Week with The Atlantic’s year-in-review episode Friday contained a fleeting reference to a bombshell Wall Street Journal story about how the White House and Democrats actively hid President Joe Biden’s descent into decrepitude, including several public stumbles, shaking hands with the air, and taking the “short stairss” up Air Force One.

The supposedly vigilant media acceded to Democratic wishes and showed astonishingly little curiosity about Biden’s decline, even issuing defenses of Biden’s acuity in the face of Republican observations, defenses that look simply pathetic in retrospect, like the New York Times story lamenting so-called Republican “cheap fakes.”

Such defenses also appeared on tax-funded PBS including a notorious exchange from the September 1, 2023 edition of the network’s political roundtable, Washington Week with The Atlantic, after a disastrous Biden press conference spurred by a damning special counsel report from Robert Hur.

PBS Oozes Over Krugman’s NYT Retirement: He Sees ‘Resurrection’ of Biden’s Reputation

22nd December 2024

Read it.

On Friday’s PBS airing of Amanpour & Co., host Christiane Amanpour introduced “the Nobel Prize-winning economist, Paul Krugman, who’s written his last column for The New York Times, after 25 years of sharp and often indispensable takes on major issues that shape America and the world.”

Stop laughing, please.

NewsBusters has compiled decades of research proving Krugman’s knee-jerk partisanship is the opposite of sharp, and his conventional wisdom opinions far from indispensable. And he continues to claim Bidenomics has been vindicated. None of this penetrated the liberal PBS bubble, which didn’t offer the economist a single challenging question.

Newsweek Claims U.S. Cities Would Be Underwater by 2050, Forgets the Same Predictions Were Made for 2000 and 2020

17th December 2024

Read it.

Responsible journalism requires more than repackaging doomsday scenarios; it demands rigorous fact-checking and a willingness to present a balanced view of the evidence. By failing to meet these standards, Newsweek not only erodes public trust but also diminishes the legitimacy of meaningful environmental discussions. Readers deserve better than recycled, unfounded predictions—they deserve facts. Until outlets like Newsweek prioritize accuracy over hype, they will remain complicit in the spread of misinformation masquerading as science.

BREAKING: ABC News Publishes False Information About Trump Education Nominee

17th December 2024

Read it.

On Dec. 11, ABC News’ Jay O’Brien reported false information about Linda McMahon, President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for U.S. secretary of education, on “ABC News Live Prime.”

In the first minute of an eight-minute overview, O’Brien stated that McMahon has no formal education training and little experience:

“If she receives Senate confirmation, McMahon, who has no formal teaching training and little experience in education, will be tasked with setting policies for the nation’s schools.”

This is patently false.

While receiving a bachelor’s degree in French at East Carolina University in the late 1960s, McMahon earned a teaching certificate after completing a teacher preparation program at the school. This information has been available publicly for years, reported in outlets like The Washington Post and USA Today, was confirmed in a Hartford newspaper in 2011, and has been listed in official statements from East Carolina University.

The most recent data from National Center for Education Statistics on educator qualifications reported that at least 8% of public schoolteachers in the United States had a teaching certificate instead of a bachelor’s degree in education.

Additionally, teacher transition programs, in which non-education career individuals obtain a certificate to teach their skillset in schools, are common in the United States. Almost 20% of teachers enter the education field in this way, and are not described as “unqualified” or “untrained” by any state department of public education or public instruction.

National Anti-Violence Activist David “Camera” Hogg Launches Bid for DNC Leadership

17th December 2024

NBC News, a Voice of the Crust.

David Hogg, a survivor of the 2018 shooting at his high school in Parkland, Florida, who turned into a national anti-violence activist, has launched a bid to serve in leadership of the Democratic National Committee.

Hogg, 24, announced on Monday he is running to become a vice chair of the DNC, arguing he would focus on winning back young voters who have drifted from the Democratic Party to Republicans. That shift came profoundly, and abruptly, in November, when young voters who predominantly favored President Joe Biden just four years earlier backed Donald Trump in larger numbers than any Republican presidential candidate since 2008, according to NBC News exit polling.

“Moving forward, we must have a renewed focus on our youth outreach in all states and territories to rebuild our coalition after the massive shift to the right among young voters this election,” Hogg said in a statement. “We need a collaborative environment where we don’t just surround ourselves with people who agree with us. We must confront the mass exodus of people from Blue states to Red States, driven by our party’s failure to address the housing crisis at scale—which if left unaddressed, will spell disaster for us by 2030.”

Incidentally keeping the cameras on me, of course.

Recalling Media Hostility for Bill Buckley & Conservative Movement

15th December 2024

Read it.

It was 25 years ago this week (December 14, 1999) that conservative powerhouse William F. Buckley recorded the final episode of his award-winning talk show, Firing Line. That occasion, as with other important milestones in Buckley’s long and influential career, brought to the surface the liberal media establishment’s hostility toward the retiring host as well as their disdain for the broader conservative movement he helped launch.

Democrats, in the minority, always act as if they were in the majority, issuing demands.

The Bigger Vigilante-Worship Problem Is Happening on the Right

13th December 2024

New York Magazine, a Voice of the Crust.

Note the proglodyte toolbox: (1) Conflate two things at a high-level of abstraction (‘vigilante-worship”) that, when examined, aren’t even close to being the same; (2) accuse those who don’t accept this equivalence of ‘double-standards’ or ‘hypocrisy’; (3) use this verbal smash-and-grab as a stick to beat the Heretics and Sinners. Rinse, repeat.

‘Unprecedented Risk’ to Life on Earth: Scientists Call for Halt on ‘Mirror Life’ Microbe Research

13th December 2024

The Guardian, a Voice of the Crust.

Experts warn that mirror bacteria, constructed from mirror images of molecules found in nature, could put humans, animals and plants at risk of lethal infections.

What ‘scientists’? What ‘experts’? Nobody ever says, specifically, so that we might judge their expertise and evaluate whether they are or are not credible.

World-leading scientists have called for a halt on research to create “mirror life” microbes amid concerns that the synthetic organisms would present an “unprecedented risk” to life on Earth.

The international group of Nobel laureates and other experts warn that mirror bacteria, constructed from mirror images of molecules found in nature, could become established in the environment and slip past the immune defences of natural organisms, putting humans, animals and plants at risk of lethal infections.

Although a viable mirror microbe would probably take at least a decade to build, a new risk assessment raised such serious concerns about the organisms that the 38-strong group urged scientists to stop work towards the goal and asked funders to make clear they will no longer support the research.

Gell-Mann Amnesia Effect.

PBS Attacks SCOTUS for Not Deferring to the Left’s Gender ‘Experts’

12th December 2024

Read it.

New York Times columnist Masha Gessen joined NPR host Michel Martin on Wednesday’s edition of Amanpour and Company on PBS, where he attacked the Supreme Court for not listening to the left’s preferred “experts” on the case involving Tennessee’s ban on so-called “gender-affirming care” for minors.

Martin declared, “You have some interesting things to say in a number of the columns that you’ve written about how this is also about a kind of loathing or resistance to expertise,” before inviting Gessen to “Say more about that, why you say that.”

Oversimplify and Vilify

12th December 2024

Quillette.

Is there anything left to say about Ta-Nehisi Coates and his ten-day reporting trip to Israel last year? The Message—now in its eighth week on the New York Times bestseller list—has been widely celebrated on the Left for its truth-to-power indictment of the Jewish state on multiple counts of apartheid, genocide, and white supremacy. But his account has also been thoroughly vivisected by critics, who have sliced their way through the text, correcting errors, supplying missing context, and making the case for Israel that Coates impatiently dismisses as disinformation force-fed to gullible innocents like him for years.

But never mind. Coates believes that morality trumps facts, and he derides invocations of “complexity” by Israel’s defenders. “I would sooner hear a defense of cannibalism,” he declares, “than I would hear any brief for what I saw with my own eyes in Hebron.” Try to explain the whys and wherefores of Israeli policies to Coates and you’re no better than Chico Marx’s con-man in Duck Soup: “Who you gonna believe, me or your own eyes?” Coates the reporter claims that his powers of observation are all he needs to achieve moral clarity. And on that basis, he need not consider the views of his opponents because no context or explanation of Israeli conduct could possibly be exculpatory.

NY Times Front-Page Penny Smear: ‘Jury Acquits Man Who Was Choking Rider on Subway’

12th December 2024

Read it.

Check out the headline and lead sentence of the front-page story on the Daniel Perry acquittal in Tuesday’s New York Times, “Jury Acquits Man Who Was Choking Rider On Subway Cleared of Homicide — Split Reaction in a Case Reflecting Tensions in New York City,” by Hurubie Meko and Anusha Bayya.

Yes, a man just randomly choked an innocent subway “rider” in New York City — not a loud, threatening disruptor with a long criminal record who posed a potentially deadly threat to other passengers.

The lead was no better. Again what a bizarre way to describe Daniel Penny’s brave subduing of Jordan Neely.

MSNBC: Republicans ‘Cheated’ to Win House with ‘Rigged’ Districts

12th December 2024

Read it.

This past week, several MSNBC hosts pushed a sore loser narrative that the Republican House majority was won because of “rigged” congressional districts, with one host even claiming Republicans had been “cheating basically.”

After Joe Scarborough first started pushing the “rigged” election line on Tuesday by invoking gerrymandering, fellow hosts Nicolle Wallace, Lawrence O’Donnell and Chris Hayes joined him on Wednesday after outgoing Democrat Congressman Wiley Nickel published an op-ed in The News & Observer complaining about North Carolina Republicans redrawing his home state’s districts, and Jonathan Capehart jumped in on Friday night.

And, even though Republicans are heavily short-changed by California’s district maps, O’Donnell spoke of the liberal state as if it were a model for how districts should be drawn.
