Fox News and Donald Trump have given blonde hair a new chapter: Now, blonde is the color of the right, for whom whiteness has become a hallmark. Over the past decade or so, as inclusiveness became the hallmark of Obama-era liberals, the left found feminist icons in Rachel Maddow, Samantha Power, and Michelle Obama, who make no apologies for their failure to fit traditional ideals. But #MAGA, Fox News America is a place where all the classic signifiers of privilege and wealth work on overdrive: country-club-issue blue blazers with brass buttons and khaki pants, and above all else, for women, that yellow-blonde, carefully tended hair — a dog whistle of whiteness, an unspoken declaration of values, a wink-wink to the power of racial privilege and to the 1980s vibe that pervades a movement led by a man who still believes in the guilt of the Central Park Five. During that Republican Preppy Handbook era, when Dynasty and Dallas were on TV, the type of conspicuous ostentation that would lead a real-estate developer to sheath his entire apartment in gold leaf was actually in vogue. Look at the movies: Jake’s girlfriend in Sixteen Candles with the lush swoop of thick, blonde locks that ended up stuck in a door (losing the boyfriend to a redhead of all things meant, literally, losing that luscious hair). Johnny, the villain of the Karate Kid films, had a decisive swoosh of blond hair that obscured his headband. We knew, the moment we saw that hair, that small, ethnic Daniel was up against more than another teenager, he was up against privilege itself.

I am not making this up.

The chief defect of Identity Politics is that it makes people into units of a group rather than individuals, and hence interchangeable. This is a relic of tribal politics rearing its ugly head. Taken to its logical extreme, in such places as Pakistan and Nigeria, it means that if somebody from group X has offended you, it is enough to punish some other unit from that group; no need to find the actual perpetrator. ‘They all look alike to me.’

Of course, if somebody did this trick with a Fashionable Minority, I’m sure this chick would be the first to go ballistic. It’s all about The Evils of Being White.

It’s 2017, and people are still debating whether or not women are intellectually inferior to men, and whether we are entitled to a workplace that isn’t toxic to people simply based on their gender and sex.

Well, no, actually. People are debating how much to tar and feather the straw man of ‘women intellectually inferior to men’, which nobody actually believes any more, but it’s such a useful straw man than it’s perennially resurrected for the Two-Minute Hate.

Note the forced distinction between ‘gender and sex’, and the focus on whether women have a workplace that isn’t toxic and to hell with whether men have the same. Men and women are absolutely identical and besides women are superior in SO many ways.

To make a tedious story short, she has a problem with science because it doesn’t square with her Diversitarian religious beliefs. Poor baby. I am especially struck by her treatment of ‘the invention of whiteness and the invention of race’, as if these were constructed surreptitiously in a lab in the basement of the Koch brothers mansion and then foisted on an unsuspecting proletariat, women and minorities hardest hit etc. etc.

This woman is a ‘philosopher of science’ (how can you be a ‘philosopher’ of a field that you despise?) and alleged ‘particle physicist’ (not sure I believe that) at a state university. Your tax dollars at work (or, in this case, at random).

Apparently science is just another instance of White Privilege. Who knew?

Al Gore was challenged on climate science Tuesday night when the mayor of Tangier Island, a community threatened by coastal erosion, told the environmentalist film producer he hadn’t seen the sea level change since he began his first career as a commercial crabber in 1970.

Gore was taking questions from the audience on a CNN town hall with Anderson Cooper when the fisherman and Tangier Island mayor James Eskridge refuted Gore’s assertion that rising sea levels were endangering coastal communities.

“I’m a commercial crabber and I’ve been working the Chesapeake Bay for 50+ years. I have a crab house business out on the water and the water level is the same as it was when the place was built in 1970,” Eskridge said. “I’m not a scientist, but I am a keen observer and if sea level rises are occurring, why am I not seeing signs of it?”

The Associated Press has devoted itself to helping the Democratic Party bring down President Trump. The AP’s effort consists mostly of producing multiple negative articles about Trump and his administration every day; these are picked up by hundreds or thousands of newspapers around the country. But that isn’t all: the AP also conducts a rear-guard action, trying to defuse any positive news about Trump and his administration.

Because sinners can never be allowed to prosper, no matter what the circumstances.

The highlight of CNN’s primetime lineup Tuesday was  The Climate Crisis town hall where they teamed up with former Vice President and climate alarmist Al Gore to push his propaganda. “Consensus in the scientific community is clear. Sea levels are rising. The oceans are warming,” moderator Anderson Cooper declared as he started the program. The event became even more ridiculous when Gore equated getting people to believe him was like the Civil Rights movement, in that “it’s just really a question of right and wrong.”

So it’s not a “scientific” issue, it’s a MORAL issue. Climate change “deniers” aren’t just wrong, they’re heretics, they’re sinners, who must be punished for not believing What All Right Thinking People Believe.

Watching these people on TV is like an eternal episode of the Leftist version of the 700 Club. It’s all utterly predictable “preaching to the choir”, and all utterly BORING.

Academics are now finding white supremacy under the medieval studies bed. As Campus Reform reports, some professors of the period fear that the forces of the “alt-right” are using using this storied age to advance a dangerous “white supremacist fantasy.”

Vassar College professor Dorothy Kim issued this dire warning to The Chronicle of Higher Education last Sunday: “It should be a really, really important time to reflect on why are these things going on and what we can do to combat that. The worry I would have is that, is the field going to be forever linked to white supremacy?”

The worry that I have is, is this going to be another field that surrenders respect for reality to pursue a Leftist political agenda?

After a long night of violence in Hamburg at the international G20 Summit, where left-wing, anti-capitalist rioters injured over 70 police officers, ABC and CBS still found a way to blame Trump for the violence. Despite both networks acknowledging that violence at these summits is “nothing new,” ABC and CBS spun that Trump’s presence was one of the primary reasons activists were inspired to commit violence.

Friday morning’s Good Morning America broadcast on ABC treated the rioters with kid gloves. Despite setting cars on fire, looting businesses and throwing bottles and rocks at police, ABC’s James Longman simply called them “protesters” instead of the more accurate “rioters” or “looters.” Not to mention that no political affiliation was ascribed to them. From watching ABC’s report alone, the viewer would have a hard time understanding who the “protesters” were and what exactly they were protesting. The only hint comes at the end of Longman’s report, which finally calls them “anti-capitalist” but frames their actions around Trump:

“Anti-capitalist protests always target G20 meetings but this year the stakes are higher than ever as President Trump comes to town,” Longman urged.

If it wasn’t clear already what ABC was implying, Longman repeated this sentiment again in his report the next hour of Good Morning America:

“It’s unclear who was provoking who but I think it’s fair to say that with Donald Trump in town, the stakes are certainly higher.”

Too bad George W. Bush isn’t around any more, they could blame him, too.

Red flags went up quick at the Tucson, Arizona office of Republican Senator Jeff Flake on Thursday when one angry leftist claimed that shooting all of the opposition was the way to solve “the Republican problem.” The leftist protestor also brought up the shooting of Majority Whip Steve Scalise and was arrest by police a short time later. This disturbing incident went unreported on both ABC and CBS during their evening news programs.

A video released Tuesday by James O’Keefe’s Project Veritas shows a CNN producer speaking candidly about the network’s coverage of President Trump and Russia.

In the hidden camera video, John Bonifield, a supervising producer at CNN Health, talks about how CNN uses the Trump-Russia allegations to boost ratings and how directions to focus on it have come from CNN’s CEO Jeff Zucker.

When asked by the Project Veritas reporter, “But honestly, you think the whole Russia shit is just like, bullshit?” Bonifield replies, “Could be bullshit. I mean, it’s mostly bullshit right now. Like we, don’t have any big giant proof.”

An obsession with who is and who is not ‘elite’ invariably marks people who are definitely not.

Being wealthy has become so passé that rich people are increasingly choosing not to display that wealth—that’s the theory behind a new book exploring the changing consumption habits of rich people in the West.

Actually, the reality is that the finer things in life are so available to non-rich people that rich people just don’t have that much in the way of an opportunity to grind the faces of the poor into the dirt they way they used to (in proglodyte fantasies). Bill Gates and Joe Sixpack both drink the same Coke, eat the same fries, pee in the same kind of toilet, and use the same type of gas in their cars.

In her new book, The Sum of Small Things: A Theory of the Aspirational Class, Currid-Halkett takes aim at “Aspirationals”—the group that she sees as the new elite.

In other words, the people who are desperately afraid that they aren’t in the Upper Class, and so are going out of their way to find some means somehow to signal that they actually are. A bit of category confusion here.

Highly educated and defined by cultural capital rather than income bracket, these individuals earnestly buy organic, carry NPR tote bags, and breast-feed their babies. They care about discreet, inconspicuous consumption—like eating free-range chicken and heirloom tomatoes, wearing organic cotton shirts and TOMS shoes, and listening to the Serial podcast. They use their purchasing power to hire nannies and housekeepers, to cultivate their children’s growth, and to practice yoga and Pilates.

As I said, it’s all about signaling — mostly to yourself, to re-assure you that you are on the ‘right side of history’.

Still, Currid-Halkett’s book is an important glimpse into the decisions driving how today’s rich spend their money. And while it may be funny to joke about their yoga pants and affinity for kale, the rise of the “aspirational class” may have very real consequences. Perhaps most disturbing is Currid-Halkett’s conclusion that these consumption trends may exacerbate inequality. Increased spending by wealthy parents on education and health for their children, for example, may deepen class divides and limit opportunities for poorer kids.

Note the proglodyte axiom: Life is zero-sum, so if wealthy people spend more on their own kids it somehow ‘limits opportunities for poorer kids’.

We began to really embark on a charity approach as a more serious attempt to address what was considered to be an emergency at the time—which is why it was called the “emergency food system.” But that emergency never really went away. It just became institutionalized, and there’s been a permanent amount of food insecurity around the country since then. That’s one approach.

Elementary economics: If you provide stuff for free, the demand for such stuff increases to meet the available supply. Unless and until you run out of people who want more free stuff (which will never happen), you will never run out of people who want free stuff.

Another approach was welfare reform [under the] Clinton administration. That also reinforced the need for a charity approach because it lifted the government’s role in providing for basic income for the most impoverished people in the country.
