Steve Sailer looks at race in America.
A couple of years ago, Coates was awarded a MacArthur Foundation genius grant of $625,000 for his best-selling micro-memoir Between the World and Me, in which he recounted not just one but two anecdotes about people he knew who were the victims of white racist oppression.
In one, a black guy whom Coates had vaguely known in college was gunned down by a policeman.
Eventually, Coates admits the shooter cop was black too, which you might think wrecks the moral of his tale. But that’s not the point; the point is that, no matter what blacks inflict upon one another, white people are to blame.
And that’s not all Coates could remember from his first forty years of life. His memoir also included the celebrated story of how Coates let his little boy dawdle upon an escalator and then a white woman about to crash into the lad said, “Come on,” which is racist.

Look, a ‘hunger strike’ works only if whoever you’re ‘striking’ against can’t afford to let you die.
If that doesn’t apply, a ‘hunger strike’ is only a slow form of suicide.
I suspect that, unlike Obama, Trump really doesn’t give a shit if some jihadist at Gitmo starves himself to death. And I don’t see the people who have been calling him a Nazi and The New Hitler having a lot of influence over him with respect to changing that policy.
So all of the handwringing that will inevitably occur in the DemLegHump Media is just hot air. It worked with previous Establishment politicians, but it won’t work with Trump. This is just another case of the old Crustian playbook not working with someone who is not of the Crust. When will they learn? I suspect never.

Over the weekend, liberal online magazine Salon put out a highly mockable list of their top “25 Conservatives Actually Worth Following on Twitter.” The story made a splash on social media, because it seemed Salon’s only criteria for being a “worthy conservative” is that you had to be an outspoken “Never-Trumper” and a fierce critic of the right. Brownie points if you support Obamacare and spew profanities at the president.
What didn’t count? Actually being a smart, thoughtful commentator on conservative ideas and a warrior against the liberal media.
Salon’s list is so out-of-touch from what a conservative is, that they even include virulently anti-conservative commentators like CNN’s Ana Navarro and the Washington Post’s Jennifer Rubin.
Well, to Salon, they probably look conservative.

This article examines the symbolic whiteness associated with pumpkins in the contemporary United States. Starbucks’ pumpkin spice latte, a widely circulated essay in McSweeney’s on “Decorative Gourd Season,” pumpkins in aspirational lifestyle magazines, and the reality television show Punkin Chunkin provide entry points into whiteness–pumpkin connections. Such analysis illuminates how class, gender, place, and especially race are employed in popular media and marketing of food and flavor; it suggests complicated interplay among food, leisure, labor, nostalgia, and race. Pumpkins in popular culture also reveal contemporary racial and class coding of rural versus urban places. Accumulation of critical, relational, and contextual analyses, including things seemingly as innocuous as pumpkins, points the way to a food studies of humanities and geography. When considered vis-à-vis violence and activism that incorporated pumpkins, these analyses point toward the perils of equating pumpkins and whiteness.
I defy you to read this without laughing.

President Trump’s new CEA chair, Kevin Hassett, walked into the lion’s den last week with his first official speech. He used the moment to pound the leftist Tax Policy Center (TPC). It was a wonderful sight.
When Hassett wasn’t pounding the TPC, he was spanking them. He took them to the woodshed, and disciplined them in public view.
Hassett rightfully accused the TPC for ignoring widely accepted economic literature, for using false assumptions on tax details that have never been published, and for manufacturing income-redistribution (“tax cuts for the rich”) and deficit numbers that don’t even exist.

Steve Sailer fisks David Brooks, pet pseudo-conservative of the New York Times.
Brooks is everything that Donald Trump hates about the Republican Party. The essence of Donald Trump is that it is possible to divide the world into two groups, Americans and non-Americans, and that he was elected to do things for the Americans. Brooks appears to be of the opinion, common on the left and in the Republican Establishment, that everybody is kinda-sorta an American, with some living in the U.S. and others not yet; the way Israel looks on Jews of the Diaspora.
Whatever disagreements I may have with Trump (and there are more than you know), I am with him in this.
