SCIENCE Article Castigates ‘Human Supremacy’

17th December 2018

Read it.

Environmentalism is growing darkly anti-human, a misanthropy that has also seeped into science.

Vivid case in point: Science, one of the world’s most prominent scientific journals, just published an anti-human exceptionalism screed by Eileen Crist. Crist, who has a Ph.D. in sociology and not in any of the natural sciences, writes to warn that the end is nigh — and the reason for the pending catastrophe is “human supremacy.”

Republican Women for Progress, a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit, was founded by Jennifer Lim and Meghan Milloy, both former employees of Republican organizations. The duo also previously founded Republican Women for Hillary and spoke at the Democratic National Convention in the past.

Extinction Rebellion Protests: Hundreds Join Demonstrations Across UK Demanding Demanding Government Takes Action on Climate Change

I guess fighting climate change implies leaving trash strewn around. Who knew?

At present the UK has over 66 million people. I doubt that protests involving less than a thousand people are going to impress anybody whose job it isn’t to report on it as if it were important.

Note the assumption that only the government can solve the climate change problem, implicitly by forcing people into behavior that they would not naturally do.

Note the meta-assumption that every problem is by its nature a political problem that requires political action to solve.

Green Madness

13th December 2018

Read it.

What drives anti-vaxxers, besides their unfounded warnings about autism, is the same principle that motivates the non-GMO crowd: we need to keep our technological hands off the supposedly divine order of nature, even if elements of that divine order, like viruses, are killing us.

I found this out firsthand years ago, when I had a conversation with the late Arne Naess, the Norwegian father of what is known as “deep ecology” and guru of the European Green movement. How seriously did Naess regard the divinity of Mother Nature? He told me that the eradication of smallpox was a technological crime against nature. The smallpox virus, he said—which had maimed, tortured, and killed millions of human beings—somehow “deserved” human protection.

The Reason Many Ultrarich People Aren’t Satisfied With Their Wealth

9th December 2018

Read it.

Perhaps it has something to do with the hordes of ankle-biters bitching and moaning about it.

Perhaps.

Most people who write about rich people aren’t rich themselves, and so have no idea how rich people think; the best they can do is to imagine how they would think if they themselves were rich. It usually starts out with the observation that ‘certain people have more than they could ever hope to spend’, and wends it’s way into fantasy-land from there.

The point of being rich isn’t to spend, although it does allow you to spend, sometimes lavishly; the point of being rich is that it allows you to invest. Rich people don’t put their money in a big checking account waiting for the bills from Cartier and Armani to come in — their money is invested, and rich people spend a lot of their time managing those investments.  That’s how they got rich to begin with and that’s how they stay rich.

If you want to know how people who merely think of money in terms of what it can be spent on, just Google for ‘lottery winner’ and read some of the sad-sack stories. These aren’t rich people; they’re poor people with money. The difference between the two is what most article-writers never comprehend.

Princeton Feminist Noa Wollstein Hates Men and ‘Heteronormative’ Kissing

8th December 2018

Read it.

Well, you know, Princeton — what do you expect from a place that would hire the likes of Paul Krugman?

This is why Ms. Wollstein’s parents are paying $62,750 a year (including room and board) to send her to Princeton, so that she can vent her anti-heterosexual hostility and prevent the performance of Disney songs on campus.

I doubt seriously that her parents are paying that. More likely she is getting some kind of financial aid and loans.

I suspect that in many such cases if the parents were paying full freight these kids would be an community college or in the military. And the parents are delighted, of course, that their daughter managed to get into Princeton; I doubt that she comes from a long line of Princetonians. She demonstrates the usual narcissism of someone who has come to the Other Left Coast from Flyover Country and is determined to Make It Big and enter the Establishment.

A Fisking We Will Go: ‘Congress Will Have to ‘Start Impeachment Proceedings’ Against Trump After Cohen Filing, Says Former Nixon White House Lawyer’

8th December 2018

Read it.

The ‘former Nixon White House lawyer’ in question is John Dean, famous teller of tall tales, but of course they can’t put that in the headline or everyone would say ‘oh, him’ and fail to read the article.

Evidence from Donald Trump’s former lawyer about Russian collusion with his presidential campaign team could lead to his impeachment, Richard Nixon’s former White House counsel has claimed.

Note the weasel-word ‘could’. As with ‘climate change’, this is how progs get around the fact that (a) there is no evidence (but there ‘could’ be!) that Trump is connected with any of Cohen’s shenanigans, or that (b) ‘collusion’ is not a crime, however much prog handwringing it triggers.

Mr Dean told CNN that the US Congress had enough evidence to impeach the US leader.

But that evidence isn’t cited or specified, of course. The point is to make the statement, not back it up. ‘See! See! John Dean says there’s enough evidence for impeachment, and he ought to know!’

What John Dean certainly knows is that CNN isn’t going to give him the publicity he craves if he says ‘No there there.’

Conformity Killed the Weekly Standard

6th December 2018

Read it.

The easiest way to sum up the failure of the Weekly Standard is this: Why would anyone on the right offer financial support to the Weekly Standard when CNN will call us a racist for free? And why would anyone on the left offer financial support to the Weekly Standardwhen CNN will call us a racist for free?

Sarcasm aside, that is the Weekly Standard’s primary problem. In the age of Trump, the publication offers nothing we cannot get everywhere else in the elite media, nothing we cannot find at the far-left Washington Post, MSNBC, New York Times, CNN, etc.

Smug virtue-signaling and superior Trump-bashing are the cheapest commodities in today’s news business. They are literally everywhere. And so, instead of offering a unique voice and perspective in an ocean of left-wing media, the Weekly Standard instead chose to sit in the middle of this ocean and sell saltwater.

They were living, breathing examples of the cuckitude with which ZMan has so much fun.

Sure, we all understand why the corrupt media found this “important voice” valuable: it allowed them to exploit the Weekly Standard and its contributors as a club against Trump from the right, and there is no species on earth the media find more useful than a narcissistic Republican bashing one of his own.

Regardless, the media’s ability to use the Weekly Standard as a propaganda weapon did not make the Weekly Standard more interesting to the everyday news and opinion consumer. In fact, the Weekly Standard became so predictable in its reactionary response to all things Trump (and his supporters), so predictable, it ceased to be interesting (a problem the Weekly Standard shares with last-place CNN).

Fortunately, we still have an economic system in which losers fail.

The Other McCain puts the boot in:

What’s the value-added of your journalistic product, as a conservative magazine, if your essential message is, “Liberals are right”? It is possible to dislike President Trump or to criticize his policies without joining Bill Kristol, Rick Wilson, Jonah Goldberg and Rich Lowry in the #NeverTrump chorus of sore losers whose basic argument is that the nearly 63 million Americans who voted for Trump were wrong to do so. According to the #NeverTrump chorus, because their favorite candidates did not win the GOP nomination, therefore Hillary Clinton should be president. They have devoted themselves to delegitimizing Trump’s presidency, and are we surprised that this message was so unpopular with conservatives that the Weekly Standard became a publication without a readership?

Ocasio-Cortez Sees Global Warming as a Way to Push ‘Social and Racial Justice’ Policies

5th December 2018

Read it.

Democratic Congresswoman-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York said the “Green New Deal” plan she supports would be used to achieve liberal “economic, social and racial justice” goals along with fighting global warming.

“[W]e can use the transition to 100 percent energy as the vehicle to truly deliver and establish economic, social and racial justice in the United States of America,” Ocasio-Cortez said at a Tuesday panel discussion alongside Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and environmental activist Bill McKibben.

No details, of course, about just how that is going to happen. Cynical me, I suspect it will happen by getting people used to being bossed around by SJW bureaucrats. Even if that’s the plan, don’t expect them to explain that any time soon.

While light on details, proponents said the “Green New Deal” could create millions of jobs in renewable energy and address many “social justice” issues typically on Democrats’ radar.

Uh, just how is creating what are likely to be highly technical jobs in ‘renewable energy’ going to address ‘social justice’ issues? Fashionable victim groups are rightly famous for their lack of employable skills such that they have to get jobs based on skin color, native language, or sex rather than being able to compete in the normal way on talent. I smell a boondoggle aborning.

“We have injustices in this country. Those injustices are concentrated in frontline communities and indigenous, black and brown communities,” she said. “They’re the ones that experience the greatest depths of this injustice.”

Of course, were you to ask her to name some, she couldn’t do it. She’ll just wave her hands in the air and claim that everybody knows what they are.

There are times when ‘airhead’ is too kind a word to use.

Rubio Says Saudi Crown Prince Was Definitely ‘Involved’ in Khashoggi Killing

5th December 2018

Read it.

So what? Who cares? I don’t. Nor should our government.

The way Americans of the Chattering Class are going on, you’d think this guy was an American citizen.

In fact, more noise is being made about his death than about the deaths of actual American citizens at the hands of Muslim jihadists.

We could make a long list of foreigners who were directly involved in the casual murder of individuals, starting with Vladimir Putin right the way down to half of the government of South Africa, and nobody is making a big deal about it. What is it about Khashoggi that has the Cloud People in such an uproar?

Republicans Plan Lame-Duck Power Grab ‘Denying the Will of Voters’ Just Weeks Before Democrats Take Control

4th December 2018

Read it.

Well, no, this is just what politicians do. They pretend that the Democrats would do the same (and haven’t done the same in the past), but it’s all hypocrisy.

It’s not a ‘power grab’ because they’ve already got the power. There’s nothing in the constitution or the law that requires them to sit on their hands until the next crowd take over. That’s what terms are all about.
