Useful idiots, Kristof edition

19th January 2019

Scott Johnson at Powerline does some fisking.

Lo these many years since the Russian Revolution and the collapse of the Soviet Union, the New York Times is still doing public relations for Communism. The most recent example — I find it almost unbelievable — is Nicholas Kristof’s January 18 Times column “Why Infants May Be More Likely to Die in America Than Cuba” (accessible here on Outline).

For those not aware of it, Outline (https://outline.com) offers a tool that, if you paste in a piece’s URL, will eliminate all the tedious persiflage and just give you the story in an easily readable form. It will also pierce many paywalls, such as that of the New York Times.

“Cuba has the Medicare of All that many Americans dream about” may be true in a sense, but this is so old and so lame. Kristof’s column is based on Cuba’s low infant mortality rate as reported. He acknowledges the gauzy veil of Cuban health care statistics yet he fails to get at the essential problems they raise. He is a fool for Communism. He promotes what Jay Nordlinger aptly derided as “The myth of Cuban health care” in his 2007 NR column on Michael Moore’s Sicko.

Jay noted that “Cuba’s infant-mortality rate remains respectable,” but put it in the context that Kristof failed to provide. Jay noted, for example, “if there is any sign of abnormality, any reason for concern — the pregnancy is ‘interrupted.’ That is the going euphemism for abortion. The abortion rate in Cuba is sky-high, perversely keeping the infant-mortality rate down.” See also Katherine Hirschfeld’s case study below. The word “abortion” doesn’t appear in Kristof’s column.

State of the Union Uninvite Is a Big Deal

17th January 2019

Read it.

Another National Review cuck wrings his hands because the sky is falling.

Actually, prior to TV, Presidents sent a written message to Congress in accordance with the Constitutional requirement, and it wasn’t a big deal. The only reason this feature is in the Constitution is because the Founding Fathers were seeking to enact the Whig view of the current British parliamentary system, and this was the analog of the King’s Speech before each session of Parliament.

All Trump needs to do is send over a message ‘Doing well. See you next year.’ and leave it at that.

Cleopatra Should Be Played by a Black Actor – But Not Just Because It Might Be More Historically Accurate

15th January 2019

Read it.

The ignorance of those who write for newspapers never ceases to amaze me. Cleopatra was a Ptolemy, descended from Alexander’s general who got Egypt in the carve-up after ol’ Alex died; they were Macedonians, and quickly followed the Pharaonic custom of marrying their siblings, so there is no possible way that Cleopatra was ‘black’, i.e. sub-Saharan African. Judging from her name and picture Biba Kang is Asian so perhaps can’t be expected to know any better, but presumably this piece passed through the hands of editors at least one of whom presumably attended University and so ought to have intervened. But perhaps accuracy isn’t that important any more in ‘journalism’.

Now We Know How Much the Tax Bill Really Cost

13th January 2019

‘Cost’, of course, assumes that the money you make belongs to the government, which then graciously allows you to keep part of it. From that perspective, then, a tax cut is a ‘cost’ to the government.

Of course, when YOUR ‘costs’ exceed your income, you have to either find new income or reduce your spending. The  government never reduces spending — perish the thought! — so it has to find new sources of income. Since the only sources of income available to the government are the monies it takes from YOU, well….

Report: FBI Opened Inquiry Into Whether Trump Was Working for the Russians

12th January 2019

Paul Mirengoff at Powreline unpacks the news.

The New York Times reports that “in the days after President Trump fired James B. Comey as F.B.I. director, law enforcement officials became so concerned by the president’s behavior that they began investigating whether he had been working on behalf of Russia against American interests.” The Times cites “former law enforcement officials and others familiar with the investigation.” They say the FBI investigation ended when Robert Mueller was appointed. If this specific charge remained under investigation, Mueller did the investigating.

If it’s true that the FBI undertook the investigation described by the Times, this tells us plenty about the FBI. It tells us nothing about Trump.

Whenever any of the DemLegHump Media say ‘according to anonymous sources familiar with the matter’, they’re just making it up.

Washington Post Columnist: The Networks Need To De-Platform Trump  Good luck with that. He’s the only one shoring up their business model. They would soon find that they need him more than he needs them.

Ace of Spades comments:

For some time, the conservative movement has been divided between liberals who don’t really mind liberal rule because they like liberals because they are liberals, and actual conservatives, who feared, correctly, that the left was as serious as Hitler when it has repeatedly told us exactly what it intended to do, which is to punish and suppress any speech they think is “wrong.” They have repeatedly told us that all issues are now “beyond discussion,” and they have repeatedly proposed methods of punishing/criminalizing those who engage in such wrongthink.

Many of us said that there could be no compromise with this. Liberal Bill Kristol doesn’t need to fear the liberal censorship state, because he’s a fellow liberal and is useful for fighting their current political fight, but anyone who is actually opposed to leftwing hegemony and speech criminalization does need to fear them– as they fear us.

Well, we’re now at the point where the left has agreed (funny how they’re always so swift to agree about revolutionary proposals in such a short window of debate, almost as if they have been deciding these things behind closed doors before introducing to the public) that even The President can no longer be permitted to offer his unfiltered arguments to the public.

The Times Is Disappointed: The Murderer Was Black

7th January 2019

Read it.

Unfortunately–from the standpoint of the Times and others who tried to make political hay out of the truly senseless killing of Jazmine Barnes–the police caught the murderer, and he is black. Just one day later, on January 6, the paper had to eat crow: “A Twist in the Jazmine Barnes Case as a Suspect Is Charged With Capital Murder.” It was the usual story. The murderer was a gang member who thought he was retaliating against a hostile gang and shot into the wrong car. How many times have we heard that?

Media’s Anti-White Bias Makes Houston Drive-By Shooting National News

7th January 2019

The Other McCain spreads some truth.

When 7-year-old Jazmine Barnes was killed in a drive-by shooting in Houston Dec. 30, the story “captured nationwide attention,” because Jazmine’s family claimed that the shooter was a white man:

The teen and her mother described the suspect as a white man with blue eyes, a thin build and no beard. They say he “looked sick” with sunken cheekbones and a pale face with a “five o’clock shadow.” He was wearing a black hoodie.

CNN jumped on the story — RAAAAACISM! — and the usual crew of #BlackLivesMatter hate-hustlers leaped into action, raising money and sending out incendiary tweets. Unfortunately for the purveyors of this narrative, it was false. The white man in the red truck that Jazmine’s family had seen wasn’t the shooter, but an innocent guy who was himself caught in the line of fire. The actual perpetrators were driving a KIA.

And black. So the story has suddenly disappeared from the national news.

The Media, Without Evidence, Claims Conservatives Furious Over Ocasio-Cortez Dancing Video

5th January 2019

Read it.

Primarily because their strawman-conservative would of course be so; they persist in confusing their fantasies for actual reality.

Dancing is about all that anyone of her generation could possibly be good at — they don’t study real things in school, as Occasional-Cortex has demonstrated on numerous occasions, they make little effort to support themselves by honest toil, and their days are so occupied by seriatim Two Minute Hates that they have no room for anything else.
