In his campaign materials, Democrat Josh Riley is a flannel-wearing, beer-drinking, fifth-generation upstate New Yorker with blue-collar values. In real life, Riley spent years at an elite Washington, D.C., law firm and returned upstate just months ago to launch his congressional run.

Riley’s campaign site says the Democrat is “running for Congress to give working families a Square Deal” and touts his upbringing “in a working-class neighborhood” in upstate New York. Riley’s campaign launch video, meanwhile, features the flannel-and-hoodie-clad candidate alongside run-down factories and modest homes. Later in the spot, before clinking a Miller Lite glass in a dimly-lit dive bar, Riley pledges to put himself “back at the kitchen table” with his “neighbors [in] upstate New York and ask what’s best for them.”

A vulnerable Maine Democrat spearheaded an effort to make migrants eligible for his state’s welfare program, a policy that may hurt him at the ballot box in November given that it has resulted in a costly overflow of asylum seekers in the city of Portland.

As a state legislator, Rep. Jared Golden championed a bill in 2015 that declared asylum-seeking immigrants eligible for the state’s General Assistance program, which provides free hotels, meals, and other essentials to elderly and homeless Mainers. As a result, an estimated 1,200 immigrants are now receiving emergency housing in Portland and are unable to work until they receive government approval, a process that can take several months. Portland officials in May informed federal immigration agencies that the city’s hotels reached full capacity and are unable to shelter additional asylum seekers—just as federal funds for the program are set to expire.

Blake Masters is running against incumbent Arizona Democratic Senator Mark Kelly in the upcoming November elections. Running for reelection in a purple state, Kelly impersonates a moderate and may even be one in some sense, although he is reliable Democratic vote at a 100 percent level of certainty. In this he presents a telling contrast with his Arizona colleague, Kyrsten Sinema.

Kelly nevertheless holds himself out as Mr. Bipartisan. I assess his claim to be an exaggeration. To the extent it is true, however, we may infer that bipartisanship isn’t what it’s cracked up to be.

Well, we already knew that. In addition to its inherent defects, bipartisanship is also a fraud. Take my Senator Amy Klobuchar — please.

We have followed the fate of law enforcement in Minneapolis since the death of Saint George Floyd on Memorial Day 2020. We have also followed the related media coverage, which has amplified and confused the multifarious racial issues. As the Minneapolis Police Department has contracted to the size of a shrunken head — a shrunken head capable of scaring no one — we have repeatedly asked who in his right mind would go to work for it. Among the inhibitions is the relentlessly stupid coverage afforded by the Star Tribune.

Departmental manpower is so inadequate at present that the department limited its response to nonemergency calls at one point this week. I know because the heroic reporter behind CrimeWatchMpls covered it. I’m not sure the news made it into the Star Tribune.

On the menu today: You may have heard about that Democratic county official in Nevada whom police have arrested on suspicion of murdering a reporter. But you probably didn’t hear about the Democratic campaign consultant in New Jersey who pled guilty to conspiracy and murder-for-hire earlier this year. And only those who closely follow politics are likely to have heard about the Democratic mega-donor from California who lured men into his apartment and injected them with methamphetamine in exchange for sex, leading to two fatal overdoses. I think we’re starting to see why some in that party were so enthusiastic about the notion of abolishing the police.

WGN Investigates has learned several dozen of the migrants Texas Gov. Greg Abbott sent to Chicago have now been relocated to a hotel in the suburbs without advance warning to the local mayor.

“I am concerned neither the village administrator nor I were told about this,” Burr Ridge Mayor Gary Grasso told WGN. “We want to know: Why Burr Ridge?”

Just days ago, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot blasted Abbott for treating the migrants like “cargo” and not providing her with advance notice they were arriving.

“My frustration comes from the actions of the governor of Texas,” Lightfoot said Sunday, when the first bus load of 50 migrants arrived. “There could be a level of coordination and cooperation, but he chooses to do none of those things and instead tries to send human beings — not cargo, not freight — human beings across the country to an uncertain destination.”

Citizens who were shocked at the bitter partisanship and presumption of Joe Biden’s Philadelphia speech should recognize that such rhetoric has a long pedigree in the Democratic Party, stretching all the way back to before the Civil War.

In the runup to the Civil War in the 1850s, Democrats liked to call Lincoln’s new anti-slavery party “the Black Republicans,” a transparent appeal to latent racial bigotry. Likewise, Stephen Douglas and other leading Democrats liked to refer to their party as “the Democracy,” implying a monopoly on democratic rectitude the prefigures today’s liberal slogan, “Our DemocracyTM.” Biden’s press spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre offered a perfect recitation of Douglas’s principle of absolute popular sovereignty with her pre-speech comment: “When you are not with what a majority of Americans are, then you know, that is extreme. That is an extreme way of thinking.”

The White House has posted the transcript of Biden’s speech as “REMARKS BY PRESIDENT BIDEN ON THE CONTINUED BATTLE FOR THE SOUL OF THE NATION.” The transcript reflects the maniacal “MAGA Republican” drivel to which we have become accustomed, but the transcript does not do it justice. Promoted by the White House as a state address in primetime, it was a purely partisan speech whose object was to vilify the administration’s political opposition.

The irony is that they apparently don’t know what a Democracy actually is, having chosen to mis-define it, celebrate Marxism, and use their new definition to incriminate Republicans. I thought I could help them out by clarifying the characteristics of a Democracy, and we can all reflect on who is doing the most damage to our country.

This week, President Joe Biden—in search of a new label to pin on his political opponents after the failure of his “ultra-MAGA” branding, which prompted peals of laughter rather than shudders of horror—landed on a new slur with which to tar those who don’t support his agenda: they are, he said, semi-fascists.

Speaking with a crowd of Democratic donors in Maryland, Biden reportedly said, “What we’re seeing now is either the beginning or the death knell of an extreme MAGA philosophy. It’s not just Trump, it’s the entire philosophy that underpins the—I’m going to say something—it’s semi-fascism.”

Now, Democratic politicians painting half of Americans as beneath contempt is old hat. Former President Barack Obama, of course, said that Americans who didn’t support him in 2008 were merely bitter bigots, clinging to “guns or religion or antipathy toward people who aren’t like them.” Hillary Clinton was more pithy: she called them a “basket of deplorables.” So, “semi-fascist” shouldn’t come as much of a shock.

Another left-wing attempt to rewrite election rules has gone down in flames. This time, liberals attempted to put a measure on the November ballot to gut election safeguards and skew voting rules in the influential swing state.

But if the left thought they could buy their way onto the ballot, they were wrong. In their rush to “save democracy,” the group pushing the measure — euphemistically named “Arizonans for Free and Fair Elections”— failed to follow state law.

In her official capacity, Michigan Democratic governor Gretchen Whitmer has acknowledged that she hasn’t actually created 25,000 auto jobs since taking office. Her reelection campaign apparently didn’t get the memo.

Whitmer’s campaign site says the Democrat “created nearly 25,000 auto jobs as part of the biggest manufacturing boom in years.” But even Whitmer’s official office has conceded that the claim isn’t true. After a Washington Free Beacon report showed that Michigan has actually lost auto jobs on the Democrat’s watch, Whitmer amended an official state government fact sheet to remove a section that touted “creating nearly 25,000 good-paying auto jobs.” Whitmer’s official Twitter account also deleted a June 30 tweet that included the false claim, and in an Aug. 1 press release, the governor noted that the 25,000 figure stems from “projected” jobs that have been “announced” but not actualized.

The Other McCain is not afraid to ask the hard questions.

Florida Democrats had a chance to nominate a “progressive” woman for governor, but instead of Nikki Fried, they chose Charlie Crist — and it wasn’t even close. Crist won by almost a 25-point margin, 59.7% to 35.3% for Fried. Of course, it goes without saying that I loathe Nikki Fried, but I’m a Republican, so I’ve got an excuse. The big question is, why do Democratic voters in Florida hate Nikki Fried so much that they’d prefer that desiccated fossil Charlie Crist?

The Clintons perfected the 3-D communications strategy, Delay, Deny, Deceive. The Biden Administration has added a 4th D – Define. For example, look at how the Biden Administration has handled the Inflation issue.

1) Delay – for the first year, inflation was transitory and just the result of supply chain issues… Wait it out.

2) Deny – Its oil prices. The president doesn’t have a magic lever to control the price of oil; there’s not much he can do.

3) Deceive – Biden can no longer stand still and wait for the markets to reach price equilibrium on their own. So Joe Biden must appear to do something. So a fire sale of the strategic oil reserve and a quick trip to the Middle East where he pointlessly meets with pariah heads of state. All efforts in the appearance of reducing the price of oil (with little to no expectation that these ‘efforts’ would ever be successful.) To show how serious the Biden Administration is on lowering the price of oil, the Bureau of Land Management canceled all drilling and exploration leases in Wyoming.

4) Define – The economic contraction you’re experiencing as a result of the mismanagement of the Biden administration is NOT, in fact, a recession.

According to allegations in the indictment, when Cox was a candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives in the 2018 election, he perpetrated a scheme to fund and reimburse family members and associates for donations to his campaign. Cox arranged for over $25,000 in illegal straw or conduit donations to his campaign in 2017.

At 92 years old, George Soros is the last human experientially connected to the Holocaust who’s still actively taking lives. Sure, there are a few elderly ex-Nazis being dragged before German courts, but they’re insignificant (secretaries, bookkeepers) and their murderous exploits, if any, ended with the war.

Soros, a Jew who survived the Holocaust by posing as a gentile, kills people daily. How many? I think it’s safe to say that at least once every few days in cities ruled by Soros DAs an innocent person is murdered by a criminal who’s roaming the streets due to Soros’ machinations.

Soros himself has admitted that he bases his life’s work on his wartime experience. He’s the Nazis’ inadvertent posthumous revenge on America; the Jew the SS failed to catch likely conducts the equivalent of one Malmedy massacre per month.

Former Minnesota Senator Al Franken waited until the last minute to bestow his coveted endorsement on Rep. Liz Cheney via Twitter (below). Cheney is of course contending for the Republican nomination to stand for reelection to Wyoming’s single seat in the House. I’m sure Rep. Cheney appreciates Franken’s confidence as she seeks to persuade Wyoming conservatives that she is deserving of their continued support to represent them in Congress. It’s just what she needed. I hope the word gets out among all Wyoming Republicans voting tomorrow.

Of course, that is a risky prediction, given that the Democrats’ Trump Derangement Syndrome seems to become more acute on a daily basis. But for now, this may represent a peak (or nadir). Former CIA Director Michael Hayden suggests–I don’t think there is any other plausible interpretation–that Donald Trump should be executed for giving nuclear secrets to the Russians, a claim for which there is, to say the least, zero evidence, and which is absurd on its face.

After the recent annual Conservative Political Action Conference convention in Dallas, CNN published a video with the following headline: “Election deniers take over CPAC after primary victories.” In a recent appearance on CBS, Republican Rep. Paul Kinzinger, R-Ill., who voted to impeach former President Donald Trump and serves on the House Jan. 6 committee, said: “The only thing we need for democracy to survive is the knowledge that you can vote, that that vote counts, and we live with the winner and loser. If half the country believes that that wasn’t accurate, you can’t expect democracy to survive.”

Where was this concern about “election deniers” when Democrats have complained about “stolen” elections?

A new Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee ad aimed at wooing Latinos says Democrats “strengthened Arizona by investing in small businesses.” The business to which the ad subsequently cuts is almost certainly not in Arizona, or even America—its prices are listed in euros.

Since January, judges in Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana and Ohio have found that Republican legislators illegally drew those states’ congressional maps along racial or partisan lines, or that a trial very likely would conclude that they did. In years past, judges who have reached similar findings have ordered new maps, or had an expert draw them, to ensure that coming elections were fair.

All the maps complained about, of course, were drawn by Republicans. No mention of any maps drawn by Democrats, who are all as pure as the driven snow.

It was less than a day since the Supreme Court ruled to overturn Roe v. Wade, ending pregnancy on demand across America. And to Campbell, things seemed a little too quiet.

Campbell’s fears were confirmed June 25 when she arrived from home to learn that the pregnancy center had been attacked.

“They had taken crowbars to almost all of our windows, two of our doors, and just shattered all of the glass,” Campbell told The Daily Signal. “They had spray-painted [the shapes of] coat hangers on the sidewalks, on the brick facing of the buildings, and [wrote] political things like ‘Vote blue.’ In red on the stamped concrete, it read ‘If abortion ain’t safe, you ain’t safe.’”

Blue Ridge Pregnancy Center, in Lynchburg, Virginia, is one of about 40 pro-life organizations attacked since May 2, when someone leaked the Supreme Court’s draft majority opinion in the case called Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization.

Sen. Maggie Hassan’s reelection campaign ads tout that the Granite State Democrat is the “most bipartisan” lawmaker in the Senate. But state residents across the political spectrum say they consider Hassan a reliable vote for the Biden administration.

Sean Chambers, a 43-year-old construction worker and registered independent, said Hassan’s time in the Senate has been “nothing but broken promises.” He said he has yet to decide on whether he will vote Republican in November but refuses to back Hassan.

“She says she’s for the worker but hasn’t done anything,” Chambers told the Washington Free Beacon. “I don’t buy the bipartisan talk. There’s a big divide and nothing is getting done.”

I’m sure she still gets paid. That’s what Democrats mean by ‘getting stuff done’.

While peddling the ludicrously named Inflation Reduction Act on CNN this past week, Sen. Joe Manchin claimed that Democrats were merely trying to “close the loopholes and collect the taxes that are owed to the Treasury and the United States people.”

In Washington, a “loophole” is a euphemism for a perfectly legal policy that Democrats have decided they want to regulate or tax. The word “loophole” suggests that some ambiguous wording or omissions in the text of a bill have allowed people to exploit the law. Few of the Democrats’ “loopholes” meet this definition. Indeed, in most cases, the “loopholes” they’re talking about were deliberately written to exist in their present form.

Many of them by Democrats to favor campaign donors and other ‘friends’.

Sen. Michael Bennet (D., Colo.) claims he doesn’t accept contributions from corporate PACs or federal lobbyists. A Washington Free Beacon review of his campaign finance records tells another story.

“I’m not taking a dime in corporate PAC money,” Bennet says in his first reelection campaign ad. “Washington could learn a lot from Colorado. That’s why I approve this message.” But the Colorado senator accepted more than $60,000 from PACs that accept corporate PAC contributions last quarter alone. Bennet also accepted $3,500 from the Blackstone Group’s corporate PAC in 2021. The same quarter he accepted that donation he claimed on Twitter that his campaign was “setting records without taking a cent from corporate PACs.”

July 20 marked a year and a half into the Biden administration, but you’d never know that from Garry Trudeau, the liberal hack political cartoonist behind the long-running, but highly overrated “Doonesbury” comic strip.

Though former President Donald Trump has been out of the White House now for more than 18 months, he apparently still lives rent-free in the head of Trudeau, who clearly suffers from Trump Derangement Syndrome.

Trudeau—whose Sunday-only “Doonesbury” cartoon strips not surprisingly still lead the color comics section of the Trump-hating Washington Post—continues to savage the 45th president regularly.

The Phillips neighborhood just south of downtown Minneapolis should not be the hellhole it has become. It has proved a popular area for homeless encampments that have plagued the neighborhood, but it wasn’t always like this and there is no good reason it should be this way now.

My friend Howard Root writes that “the images of the homeless encampments and destruction are unlike anything I’ve ever seen in Minneapolis.” There seems to be no bottom to the crime and chaos and filth that the authorities in Minneapolis will tolerate or the Star Tribune paper over.

Tomorrow I’m facing off against John Gibbs in the Republican primary for Michigan’s Third Congressional District. The race is close. Internal polling has us within single digits of one another. But Gibbs and I couldn’t be more different.

I am a staunch defender of the Constitution and the rule of law. Accordingly, I became the first incoming freshman to recognize former Vice President Biden’s presidential victory. Then, three days after I was sworn into office in January 2021, I was in the House chamber when rioters overran the Capitol. A week later, I joined nine other Republicans, including Liz Cheney, to impeach then-President Donald Trump with a heavy but resolute conscience. I am the only freshman in history to impeach a president of his own party.

The clinical psychologist from La Cañada Flintridge supports a handful of other out-of-state candidates, but Cheney is the sole Republican. “She’s sacrificing her own political career for the benefit of honesty and justice in this country,” said Wasserman, 72.

It’s a witch-hunt show trial. Is anybody supposed to take it seriously?

The question all along was the extent to which the public’s views of Donald Trump’s effort to stay president would be changed by the committee’s work. Might the committee be able to convince non-Democrats of Trump’s culpability for the worst elements of that day? Could it persuade Republicans to see Trump’s efforts as unacceptable?

Not without proof, proof that was never presented.

New polling from CNN, conducted by SSRS, suggests that views of Trump within his party have eroded a bit since the hearings began. Overall, though, many Republicans don’t see Trump as having done anything wrong — and a plurality still somehow believe the purported predicate for Trump’s objections, that there’s solid evidence the 2020 election was stolen.

A group of 45 self-proclaimed “Republicans” rolled out by Democratic senator Mark Kelly’s (Ariz.) reelection campaign to showcase his bipartisan appeal is filled with Democratic donors.

A Washington Free Beacon review of FEC filings dating back to 2016 found that three-quarters of the roughly $300,000 in federal political donations made by “Republicans for Kelly” members went to Democrat-endorsed candidates and Democratic-aligned PACs. Less than a quarter of contributions went to Republicans, with most GOP donations coming from a single couple. The majority of the donations to Republicans were directed to politicians who supported efforts to remove former president Donald Trump from office.

Democrats lie. It’s what they do. RINOs lie as well, which makes them effectively Democrats.

Are Democrats trying to incite an insurrection? The party’s rhetoric on the “existential threat” of so-called climate change has grown increasingly radical and vitriolic of late, its policy solutions alarmingly anti-democratic in nature. Given the way some Democratic politicians have implicitly endorsed subversive tactics to enact their controversial agenda, one can’t help but wonder why outraged liberal voters aren’t storming the U.S. Capitol building at this very moment.

“This is our last chance to prevent the most catastrophic—and costly—effects of climate change,” Sen. Ron Wyden (D., Ore.) told the New York Times earlier this month. “We can’t come back in another decade and forestall hundreds of billions—if not trillions—in economic damage and undo the inevitable human toll … failure really is not an option here.”

We are just 15 weeks away from election day in what is already shaping up to be a contentious 2022 midterm season. If the press follows their typical campaign play book, journalists will pick out certain conservative candidates who commit gaffes or make odd comments and try and make them the face of the GOP.

One thing they won’t do is single out the radical, extreme nature of some of the Democratic Party’s most well known congressional members: The Squad.

Socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, as well as far-left representatives like Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar and Ayanna Pressley, have been gaffe machines in the last few months. Most recently, some of them pretended to be restrained by police officers using invisible handcuffs while protesting for abortion at the Supreme Court.

But there’s also been far more serious moments. Congresswoman Tlaib, it was revealed in July, had campaign events in 2018 organized by alleged terrorist financiers. Also, the Somali-born politician introduced a resolution in May that recognized the “catastrophe” of the creation of Israel.

But you wouldn’t know about any of these because the ABC, CBS and NBC evening newscasts haven’t covered them. Here’s the four Squad scandals the press should have been covering.

Last week, leftist senators introduced the Freedom to Travel for Health Care Act of 2022. Led by Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., the bill is a response to the claim that “radical” pro-life states might pass laws prohibiting women from traveling across state lines for an abortion.

But the bill is a solution in search of a problem.

Prohibiting such travel would clearly violate the Constitution. A state has the right to decide whether it will protect unborn life, but it has no right to impose its own laws on another state or limit the travel of its residents.

You would never know from the July 13 coverage of Hunter Biden’s laptop by Alex Thompson and Max Tani for Politico’s West Wing Playbook that the subject might be serious. Their post is headlined “The Holy War over Hunter Biden’s laptop.” It’s all a big joke. In its own way it is a classic of avoiding the subject.

Ruy Teixera is the author (with John Judis) of 2002’s The Emerging Democratic Majority. The book foresaw the rise of the multiethnic Democratic coalition that elected Barack Obama in 2008. Both Teixera and Judis are well-known men of the left, but Teixera has resisted the cultural mania that has overtaken the Democratic Party and imposed a stifling orthodoxy.

Now Teixera has not only taken to the free-speech platform provided by Substack at the Liberal Patriot. He has departed the Center for American Progress for the American Enterprise Institute. Politico’s Michael Schaeffer reported his move in “‘A Real Chilling Effect’: A Lefty Scholar is Dumping CAP — For AEI.”

Referring to the internal dynamics at CAP, Teixera comments: “It’s just cloud cuckoo land.” I think that is a widely applicable judgment to the totalizing leftist madness that now stares us in the teeth every day. Teixera had the nerve to say it out loud from inside the asylum.

It began in Boulder, Colorado. On the night of May 3, one day after Politico leaked a draft of the Dobbs Supreme Court decision that would eventually overturn Roe v. Wade seven weeks later, criminals attacked Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church, smashing windows and spray-painting multiple anti-Catholic and pro-abortion slogans on the doors and walls of the building.

Thus began a country-wide wave of hate crimes and terrorist attacks against churches, pregnancy resource centers, and pro-life organizations unlike anything seen before in the U.S., with at least 85 attacks occurring in the 74 days since the May 2 leak. The Washington Stand has tallied an additional 21 incidents of assaults on pro-life individuals and police officers, disruptions of religious services, and other violent incidents committed by pro-abortion extremists over that same time frame.

In response, Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., introduced the Pregnancy Resource Center Defense Act on Thursday with the goal of toughening criminal penalties for those who attack pregnancy centers and places of worship.

One of the things about political tribalism is that it encourages participants to think of politics as a fight for survival — Us and Them — in which there are no rules. The Democratic Party has made identity politics part of their core belief system, which interwoven with the strategic idea that demographic trends (particularly the growth of non-white minority populations) is the key to their obtaining uncontested political hegemony. This explains, among other things, why Donald Trump’s desire to enforce U.S. immigration law was regarded by Democrats as a species of “hate,” because they view unrestricted immigration as a means of rapidly growing the Hispanic which, in turn, they expect will ultimately provide Democrats with an insuperable electoral majority. This is not a “conspiracy theory”; it’s a synopsis of what has happened to California over the past 30 years, for example.
Democrats view illegal aliens as part of their party’s constituency, because of what we may dub The Future Democratic Voters Project, and as a consequence, will do anything necessary to prevent these law-breaking foreigners from being deported or otherwise inconvenienced.
