Why it matters: Democratic leaders have asked lawmakers to show up to the speech with people affected by DOGE and Trump’s federal funding freeze.

A ‘boycott’ is where people refuse to buy from, sell to, or deal with a person or company of which they disapprove. Democrats can’t ‘boycott’ Trump because they have no leverage; if they refuse to show up to do their Congressional jobs, Trump (with majorities in both the House and the Senate) will happily implement his programs without them. This is a classic case of ‘cutting off your nose to spite your face. If they engagein disruption, they can be expelled, which removes them as players. The Whitest City in America is losing its pallor.

Portland, Oregon’s rapid economic decline is a well documented phenomenon related directly to Democrat leadership and progressive policy initiatives. The city is perhaps one of the most far-left governments in the entire US and it’s a notorious breeding ground for leftist activist politicians. Portland is considered a “sanctuary city” and Oregon is a sanctuary state. Political opposition to illegal immigrant deportation efforts is extensive. This ideological stand, however, has only exacerbated the region’s economic problems.

One unfortunate consequence of the blue city breakdown is the fast rising homeless population and a large percentage of this population, according to estimates, is made up of refugees and asylum seekers looking for protection from deportation.

Sanctuary cities don’t track illegal migrant populations which means identifying the consequences of a migrant influx is difficult. One danger associated with uncontrolled immigration is the spread of third world diseases that don’t normally pose a serious threat in the US otherwise.

Over the past several years, Portland has dealt with multiple outbreaks of two types of Shigella bacteria, also known as Dysentery, as well as norovirus outbreaks with the same symptoms. In 2024-2025 the metro area is witnessing the largest spread of Shigella so far.

Behar wildly claimed that Musk supported apartheid when he lived in South Africa as a child, and that he still currently has that “mentality.”

As far back as I can remember, people considered the federal government wasteful and inefficient when it wasn’t being actively intrusive and confiscatory, as well as subject to fraud and corruption. It was the sort of thing just about everyone knew, but most people shrugged it off for the most part because it was deemed an inevitable and inherent part of government.

Over the years it appeared to get worse. Democrats seemed to want more and more people dependent on the federal government, and although Republicans paid lip service to wanting to cut back, it rarely if ever happened. One reason was lack of will and energy to change things. Another was that many politicians benefited personally from the situation. Another was that, as the federal government grew larger, the task of “fixing” it – whatever that would look like – seemed insurmountable.

When Trump ran on a platform of “draining the swamp” in his first term, not all that much draining took place. He was just getting his feet wet in the swampy mud and laboriously learning how to walk there without getting sucked down by quicksand. Under constant attack, it took a great deal of his rather considerable energy merely to keep going.

A Boston University employee who allegedly threatened members of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) in a social media post is reportedly under federal investigation for potential violations of federal law.

Campus Reform recently reported that Jared May, who works as an assistant media technician at Boston University, shared a post online identifying six young members of DOGE with the caption, “Wanted for Treason, Dead or Alive.”

“We will not tolerate threats against DOGE workers or law-breaking by the disgruntled,” interim U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Edward R. Martin Jr. posted on X.

Nearly one month after several parts of Los Angeles were engulfed in flames, Gov. Gavin Newsom signed two California bills into law allocating $50 million to fight the Trump administration’s agenda, especially on illegal immigration. Amid the ongoing relief efforts in Southern California, some residents are expressing their displeasure with the governor’s move.

Greg Burt, vice president of the California Family Council, told The Washington Stand, “Gov. Newsom’s decision to spend $50 million of taxpayer funds on lawsuits against federal immigration policies and legal services for illegal immigrants demonstrates a reckless disregard for California families. This sends a dangerous message: Some people must follow the law to become legal residents or citizens while others can break it with state-funded protection.”

Both pieces of legislation came from Newsom, who called a special session of the California legislature in December to “ensure key California values are protected from any unlawful overreach from the incoming administration.”

‘Alleged threats’? We all see them daily on TV.

The top federal prosecutor in D.C. escalated his scrutiny of what he characterized as potential threats directed at billionaire Elon Musk and government workers, demanding information from a Democratic congressman who criticized Musk and telling his office he planned to prosecute anyone targeting public officials, according to documents obtained by The Washington Post.

In an all-staff email to prosecutors, interim D.C. U.S. attorney Ed Martin on Wednesday announced “Operation Whirlwind,” a new initiative to prosecute threats against public officials at all levels — a problem that has escalated in recent years.

The email was obtained by The Post, as well as additional “letters of inquiry” sent by Martin to Rep. Robert Garcia (D-California) and Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-New York). Martin requested Garcia “clarify” statements regarding Musk on CNN last week and stepped up a previously reported demand that Schumer explain statements about two conservative Supreme Court justices in 2020.

‘We’re coming for you!’ doesn’t appear to need much explanation.

“Free speech has limits and threatening government workers crosses the line,” Martin wrote in the email, which he said came after he spoke the previous night with a senior Musk aide about threats against U.S. DOGE Service workers. “We will stop the storm of threats against officials at all levels.”

Not only was there a very real crisis, but given the timing of the surge at the southern border and now its sudden halt, it seems clear that this whole thing was intentionally fabricated. The Biden border problem wasn’t merely a result of incompetence, it was the product of an intentional subversion of U.S. immigration laws.

On CBS’s Face the Nation, Rep. Jamie Raskin (D., Md.) repeated the talking point of Democratic politicians and pundits that the courts are stopping President Donald Trump’s lawless actions taken after his inauguration. Raskin declared “we’re winning in court…we’re winning across the board.”

The boast was dubious at best on Sunday given earlier losses, but became embarrassing on Monday and Tuesday as additional courts ruled in favor of the Trump Administration in major cases.

For weeks, some of us have expressed confusion over the basis for some of the Democratic challenges and initial injunctions in court. President Trump clearly has the authority to designate federal officials to look at the books and track expenditures in the executive branch. After losing both houses and the majority vote, Democratic groups sought to use the courts to block such executive actions.

There was obvious forum shopping as these groups went to many of the same courts and judges for relief.

However, even judges viewed as decidedly hostile to Trump like Judge Tanya Chutkan in Washington ultimately balked at the demand for an injunction and allowed the access and actions to continue.

The federal judge who ordered the Trump administration to unfreeze all funding pauses while federal spending is being assessed, has a history of anti-Trump and woke activism.

Chief Judge John McConnell Jr. of the U.S. District Court in Rhode Island can be seen in video footage from 2021 accusing Trump of being “a dictator” and claiming that “racism is a white people problem” and that “we all have racism inside of us.”

Affirmative action was created during the civil rights era, 1964 and ’65, and then, now, it has been with us almost 60 years. But remember what it was originally designed for—to address the historic racism and oppression of black Americans through slavery and Jim Crow, de facto segregation in some of the Northern states, but de jure segregation in the South.

And it said that because of that African Americans had not been given equality of opportunity. Statute never said anything about quotas or equality result. That’s something that came in later. But the point I’m making, affirmative action was envisioned for this historic minority that made about 12% of the population.

It was challenged in the courts for years. And it was often challenged by not just so-called whites but Asians as well because their SAT scores—to take the example of college admissions—or their GPAs were often 200 or 300 points, in the case of the SAT, and GPA, 4 versus 3.2, in the case of GPAs.

By that I mean, African Americans were being admitted with less impressive statistics than whites, but especially, Asians. And then something happened to this paradigm. When the Obama administration came in, they saw that that constituency was not big enough for the type of woke agenda that they were envisioning.

DOGE head Elon Musk said on Tuesday that DOGE is going to investigate federal employees whose net worths have exploded despite their comparatively low pay.

The announcement – which came after President Donald Trump signed an executive order calling on federal agencies to work with DOGE, follows a bombshell report that Samantha Power, former head of USAID, saw her net worth explode to $30 million despite an annual salary under $250,000.

Power, a former ambassador to the United Nations under President Obama, and was sworn in as head of USAID in May of 2021, reported a net worth between $6.7 million-$16.5 million in January of 2021 on a disclosure form. Her net worth is now estimated as high as $30 million, according to the website Biden’s Basement.

I wonder whether she forked over 10% for the Big Guy.

A group of centrist House Democrats met privately with Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) and asked him to give them room to vote for GOP messaging bills, Axios has learned.

Why it matters: Democrats see an opportunity to win back the House majority in 2026, but the swing-district lawmakers who are key to that effort feel they need to be able to break away from their party at times to secure reelection.

State of play: Jeffries huddled for about 30 minutes Friday with the 10-member Blue Dog Coalition, a group of the most centrist Democrats in the House.

Another chapter in a generational battle over the future of the Democratic Party appears to be taking shape in San Francisco in a fight for the seat now held by former House speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Saikat Chakrabarti, a former chief of staff for Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, announced Wednesday that he would challenge Pelosi in the primary, citing the former speaker’s efforts to prevent the progressive New York congressmember from becoming the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee.

“I respect what Nancy Pelosi has accomplished in her career, but we are living in a totally different America than the one she knew when she entered politics 45 years ago,” Chakrabarti, a 39-year-old former tech worker, said in a social media post. “America is stuck, and Americans want real solutions that are as big as the problems we face.”

Pelosi, who stepped down as speaker in 2022 after nearly 20 years in the position, easily won reelection to her deep blue San Francisco seat last year. Her office declined to comment on Chakrabarti’s announcement.

Federal Communication Commission chairman Brendan Carr has opened an investigation into a radio station backed by left-wing billionaire George Soros that broadcasted live locations of undercover Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.

A group backed Soros, a far-left kingmaker, purchased a stake in more than 200 Audacy radio stations across America last year. Among them was the San Francisco-based KCBS 740 AM, which has come under fire for revealing live locations of undercover ICE vehicles and agents that were conducting deportation operations in the San Jose area.

The FCC’s Enforcement Bureau has already sent a formal Letter of Inquiry to the radio station as part of the FCC investigation. The Enforcement Bureau proceeding is inquiring whether the radio station–which is licensed to operate by the FCC–is violating the terms of their FCC license, which requires that they operate in the “public interest.” The formal Enforcement Bureau Letter notes that the ICE agents were operating at the time in an area known for violent gang activity.

California’s Democratic-dominated Assembly endorsed up to $50 million in funding Monday to defend the state’s progressive policies against challenges by the Trump administration.

The legislation sets aside $25 million for the state Department of Justice to fight legal battles against the federal government, and another $25 million for legal groups to defend immigrants facing possible deportation.

The proposals won approval on party-line votes after Assembly Democrats delayed an expected vote last week. They now head to Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom’ s desk.

New Jersey Democrat Gov. Phil Murphy’s office on Monday walked back remarks he made during an event live-streamed on his YouTube channel, where he appeared to challenge immigration officials to raid his multi-million-dollar property and implied he might be sheltering a person in the country illegally, New Jersey 101.5 reported.

Murphy, speaking Saturday at an event hosted by “Blue Wave New Jersey” at Montclair State University, dared ICE to come after someone he suggested had uncertain immigration status. But his office told New Jersey 101.5 that the governor’s words were “misinterpreted,” adding that no one was residing on his property in Middletown, New Jersey 101.5 reported.

Murphy’s spokesperson said the individual in question is a legal U.S. resident who was “consumed by fear” amid heightened immigration enforcement.

But two weeks into the Trump administration—which is just as lawless, destructive, and inhumane as anyone who lived through the last one could have imagined—it is clear that Democrats on Capitol Hill are failing so spectacularly to confront a constitutional crisis (which their own political incompetence helped create) that I am willing to channel the anger coursing through my body and finally put my country before my own personal well-being.

Today, it brings me no pleasure to announce that I am launching an exploratory committee for a Senate run to replace the senior senator from my home state, Dick Durbin. And I think anyone of good conscience should join me in what’s known as “testing the waters” to run against their sitting members of Congress too. There is very little entailed; anyone can do it. You’ll always hear the “my body, my choice” types hype up fantastical stories about women who were supposedly forced to give birth, in an attempt to make abortion a feminist issue.

But one Louisiana teenager’s voice is finally being heard after a grand jury indicted the people responsible for coercing her into ending her baby’s life.

When the girl found out she was pregnant, she not only intended to keep her baby, but had planned a reveal party to celebrate, according to an interview given by the District Attorney of West Baton Rouge Parish.

Her mother, however, had different plans. She ordered abortion pills mailed by New York “doctor” Margaret Carpenter and forced her daughter to take them.

The girl was tragically rushed to the hospital, where she experienced a medical emergency and ultimately lost her baby.

Vice President JD Vance has sparked discussion about the role of the Catholic Church and religious nongovernmental organizations in facilitating massive illegal immigration to the United States by bringing up Christian social teachings in a recent interview on Fox News.

As the Trump administration attempts to enforce the nation’s border laws, the vice president articulated the Christian principle of “ordo amoris”—or “order of love”—where priority is given for one’s family and neighbors above strangers from around the globe. The concept dates back to at least St. Thomas Aquinas.

“There’s this old school, very Christian concept that you love your family, then you love your neighbor, then you love your community, then you love you fellow citizens in your own country, and then after that, you can focus and prioritize the rest of the world,” Vance said in an interview with Fox’s Sean Hannity that aired Jan. 29.

Many Americans say they do not believe the Democratic Party is focused on the economic issues that matter most to them and is instead placing too much emphasis on social issues that they consider less urgent.

Asked to identify the Democratic Party’s most important priorities, Americans most often listed abortion, L.G.B.T.Q. rights and climate change, according to a poll from The New York Times and Ipsos conducted from Jan. 2 to 10.

The issues that people cited as most important to them personally were the economy and inflation, health care and immigration, the poll found. The kinds of social causes that progressive activists have championed in recent years ranked much lower.

Senator Chuck Schumer is a lawyer, so presumably he is familiar with the provisions of 18 U.S. Code § 115.

In case he has forgotten—after all, there are a lot of statutes to keep track of—Edward R. Martin, Jr., the Interim D.C. U.S. Attorney, is in the process of reminding him.

Among other things, that statute holds that anyone who threatens a federal government official or their family with the “intent to impede, intimidate, or interfere with such official, judge, or law enforcement officer while engaged in the performance of official duties, or with intent to retaliate against such official, judge, or law enforcement officer on account of the performance of official duties,” shall be punished with a term in the slammer, the length of the sentence being dependent on the actual harm caused.

When the Supreme Court was hearing an abortion case in March 2020, Schumer showed up at a protest rally in front of the Court and shouted, “I want to tell you, Gorsuch, I want to tell you, Kavanaugh: You have released the whirlwind, and you will pay the price.”

Perhaps Nicholas John Roske had that speech in mind in June 2022. It was then that he traveled from California to Maryland to pay the Kavanaughs a visit. It was not intended to be a friendly visit. In the dead of night, he took a taxi to their home. According to the court filing, he carried a suitcase in which was a “black tactical chest rig and tactical knife, a Glock 17 pistol with two magazines and ammunition, pepper spray, zip ties, a hammer, screwdriver, nail punch, crowbar, pistol light, duct tape, hiking boots with padding on the outside of the soles, and other items.”

When apprehended, Roske admitted that he had come to kill Brett Kavanaugh. I wonder what Chuck Schumer thought of that. It looks like Edward Martin is going to find out. On Friday, Martin announced not only that he was firing more than two dozen federal prosecutors; he also announced that he was opening an investigation into Schumer for his threats against two U.S. Supreme Court justices. For most mortals, issuing such threats would earn one a visit from the authorities.

John Harold Rogers, 63, worked for 11 years as a senior advisor for the international finance division of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors, the main governing body for the U.S. central bank.

A federal indictment alleged that Rogers began working with Chinese conspirators since at least 2018. The Chinese handlers worked for the Chinese intelligence and security apparatus and posed as graduate students at a Chinese university, according to the filing.

Rogers, in the collaboration, allegedly solicited trade-secret information that included proprietary economic data sets, China tariff deliberations, and briefing books for specific board governors. He also allegedly solicited internal discussions and forthcoming announcements from the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC), a 12-member body consisting of the seven Federal Reserve board of governors, the New York Federal Reserve Bank president, and four of the remaining 11 Reserve Bank presidents that rotate on an annual basis.

The Democrats are angry. Well, at least some of them.

For months, party activists have felt bitter about Kamala Harris’s election loss, and incensed at the leaders who first went along with Joe Biden’s decision to run again. They feel fresh outrage each time a new detail is revealed about the then-81-year-old’s enfeeblement and its concealment by the advisers in charge. But right now, what’s making these Democrats angriest is that many of their elected leaders don’t seem angry at all.

For all the people in Watts’s camp, the party’s response to Donald Trump’s first 12 days in office has been maddening at best and demoralizing at worst. After Trump issued pardons or commutations for the January 6 rioters last week, including the ones who attacked police officers, no immediate chorus of anger came from what is supposed to be the next generation of Democratic talent, including Maryland Governor Wes Moore, California Governor Gavin Newsom, and former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, another 2028 hopeful, who is on tour selling a young-adult version of her autobiography, has told interviewers, “I am not out looking for fights. I am always looking to collaborate.”

Former US Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg has reportedly removed the pronouns “he/him” from his X profile, which he had prominently displayed during President Biden’s first term. This comes a day after a US Army Black Hawk helicopter collided with American Eagle Flight 5342, operated by PSA Airlines, over the Potomac River, resulting in the deaths of 64 passengers on the plane and three crew members on the helicopter, for a total of 67 fatalities.

X user Colin Wright reported on Thursday night that Buttigieg “has quietly removed his gender pronouns (he/him) from his ? and other social media profiles”

“Gender ideology is absolutely toxic. Expect more Dems to start quietly distancing themselves from it,” Wright added.

Sen. Jim Banks, R-Ind., sent a letter to Secretary of State Marco Rubio asking him to investigate reports that a foreign aid agency pushed abortion on a black-majority country under the Biden administration.

The letter cites The Daily Signal’s Dec. 16 report that the Biden administration was pressuring Sierra Leone to pass an unpopular pro-abortion bill before Donald Trump took office.

It is common knowledge among nongovernmental organizations, or NGOs, in Sierra Leone that a U.S. foreign aid agency called the Millennium Challenge Corporation is threatening to withhold hundreds of millions of dollars from a U.S. agreement with Sierra Leone unless the West African country’s parliament passes the bill decriminalizing abortion, a former senior U.S. government official who has worked in the West African region told The Daily Signal. Millennium Challenge Corporation denies this.

Democrats have never been more “aroused,” according to Chuck Schumer. We’ve certainly noticed a difference. At the moment, Democrats are passionately trying to figure out how Donald Trump used creeping fascism to crash a plane into the Potomac and whining theatrically about his failure to restore food prices to their pre-Biden levels since his swearing-in last week. They’re still upset about Trump’s popular plan to deport foreign criminals and other illegal immigrants. “I can’t wait until American women can’t get blueberries for their smoothies,” Democratic strategist Jenna Arnold actually said on CNN. In case you were wondering, yes, her voice sounds like an extreme parody of a liberal white Instagram mom letting loose after splitting a bottle of rosé with her bestie.

Arnold is also the author of the book Raising Our Hands: How White Women Can Stop Avoiding Hard Conversations, Start Accepting Responsibility, and Find Our Place on the New Frontlines (2020), which was courageous enough to land a spot on the Forbes list of “Anti-Racism Resources for White People.” She helped organize the pussy-hatted Women’s March in 2017 and was part of the successful campaign to persuade Joe Biden to declare the unratified Equal Rights Amendment to be part of the Constitution, which was both pointless and illegal. Arnold has two kids named Ever Alula and Atlas Oz. (We promise we’re not making this up.) She is active on Instagram, obviously, and posts content that is cringingly stereotypical of her race, gender, and ideology.

“Are you supportive of these onesies?” is a question that was actually asked (more like shouted) during RFK Jr.’s confirmation hearing when Democrats were pretending to be appalled by a Kennedy. Meanwhile, their former colleague, “Bullion Bob” Menendez, was sentenced to 11 years in federal prison for cartoonish corruption involving Egyptian meat tycoons and a secret stash of gold bars. Bakari Sellers, another Democratic strategist on CNN, was forced to apologize after he rushed to blame Trump for the deadly midair collision between a passenger jet and a military helicopter near Reagan National Airport. Sellers is the author of the courageous book The Moment: Thoughts on the Race Reckoning That Wasn’t and How We All Can Move Forward Now (2024) and is best known for being cited in the lawsuit CNN settled for millions of dollars after defaming a teenaged Trump supporter.

You knew this was coming. California’s Democrat legislators presented a bill Monday to allow insurers and homeowners impacted by the Los Angeles fires to sue oil companies for their losses. Senate Bill 222 aims to blame the fires on climate change caused by fossil fuels and make the oil companies bankroll the state’s underfunded insurance plan.

The move is a predictable response by the one-party state’s leaders seeking to deflect from their own gross mismanagement of the city and state, which is the real cause of the disaster. They destroyed the home insurance market by driving out insurance companies through onerous price controls. As a result, the state is on the hook for billions in damages covered by its “FAIR Plan” insurance, established as coverage of last resort for homeowners. The bill proposes that the oil companies serve as the backstop for the FAIR Plan.

Leaders bowing to environmentalists also created the conditions for huge wildfires by failing to properly manage the forests through basic brush clearance and controlled fires that are standard in other states.

Additionally, through shear gross negligence, firefighters ran out of water because city officials allowed the Pacific Palisades’ 117-million-gallon reservoir, built to fight fires, to sit empty for almost a year awaiting a minor, $130,000 repair.

And they cut the LA Fire Department budget, leaving the city with the same number of firefighters and fire stations it had in 1960. Quite incredible, since it is these same leaders who are constantly warning us that alleged “climate change” will cause a lot more fires.
