Apparently, one of the best ways to make $400,000 a year in the New York area is to work for the Port Authority, according to the NY Post.

Twenty Port Authority employees, including 17 cops, cleared $400,000 in total compensation last year as the agency’s payroll sailed past $1.2 billion. And much of the magic came from everyone’s favorite government money fountain: overtime.

According to payroll data obtained by the Empire Center for Public Policy, 323 employees collected at least $100,000 in overtime alone. Of those, 189 were Port Authority cops. Eight top earners managed to rack up more than $200,000 each in OT. Police Lt. Nicholas Federico won the unofficial jackpot. His $180,691 base salary came with another $215,717 in overtime, helping push his total compensation, including benefits, to $466,775.

Detective sergeants Dewan Maharaj and Robert Zafonte Jr. weren’t exactly eating ramen either. Both finished around $448,600, with Maharaj collecting nearly $148,000 in overtime and Zafonte adding about $139,000. The NY Post writes that the overtime crown belonged to chief maintenance supervisor Reginald Bowers, who piled up $231,916 in OT and finished with $421,041 in total compensation.

That axiom appears to have been taken to heart by radical Democratic candidates who this week issued transparent denials of past outrageous comments. Their calculus is clearly that the last thing that voters want to hear is the truth about their past views.

Marxist streamer Hasan Piker has emerged as an increasingly visible, if unofficial, spokesman for the Democratic Socialists of America’s rapidly expanding political action network. He campaigned for Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed and Wisconsin gubernatorial candidate Francesca Hong while cultivating close ties with socialist New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani.

From an electoral-risk perspective, Piker is becoming a liability for Democrats. His far-left, anti-American rhetoric provides Republicans with what we called “a gift” last week. Even Hillary Clinton warned on Friday that the GOP’s “anti-communist messaging is very effective.”

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told Kara Swisher on the “Pivot” podcast that Republicans are deploying what she called a “very effective” anti-communist attack against the Democratic Party’s rising class of far-left candidates, who are increasingly defeating establishment Democrats in primary races.

Clinton told Swisher that Abdul El-Sayed’s narrow victory in Michigan’s Democratic Senate primary is a wake-up call for the party. She said El-Sayed must unite the party by winning over supporters of moderate Rep. Haley Stevens and reassuring independent voters ahead of his general election contest against Republican Mike Rogers.

“The real fight will be, how do we make sure that people who voted for Haley feel comfortable voting for Abdul El-Sayed, and how do we get independents to feel comfortable,” Clinton said.

“It’s not just about Michigan, but the Republican messaging is ‘communist, socialist.’ It’s going to be a very effective attack,” she warned, adding, “People on the left have to be prepared to answer that and be effective in answering that.”

Teachers unions such as the National Education Association and the American Federation of Teachers are using dues to push a political agenda instead of “addressing the failed education system,” the head of Moms for Liberty told the Daily Signal in an interview.

Tina Descovich, the group’s CEO, says her claim does not stem from her own personal opinion, but from years of tracking union resolutions, curricula, and meetings, as well national education data.

The Department of Education’s 2025 National Assessment of Educational Progress revealed that a record 32% of high school seniors cannot read proficiently, and almost half cannot do basic math. Fourth- and eighth-grade math and reading scores also fell, continuing a collapse that began before the COVID-19 school closures.

“The teachers unions are the reason public education is failing in America,” Descovich said, adding that they focus on “everything but education.”

Everybody’s nervous and many are furious, and yet all that emotion goes nowhere, just eats you up while you watch and wait for signs that help is on the way. What would that help even look like? Of the two political parties that used to vie between the interests of property and of labor, there is almost nothing left — nothing coherent, anyway.

Supporters of an Arizona version of the SAVE Act allege that the state’s top election official used loaded and inaccurate language to describe the measure when putting it on the November ballot.

A group of Arizona voters is suing the office of Democrat Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes, alleging the office omitted key provisions, inserted political commentary, and made unsupported claims about the legal effect of Proposition 144, a proposed state constitutional amendment to add voter ID and proof of citizenship requirements in elections.

The Legislature referred the measure to Fontes’ office in the form of a four-page bill and did not propose a summary to use in ballot language. Plaintiffs contend the secretary of state is still required to provide neutral language in the summary, and are asking the court for new ballot language before early voting on the measure begins in October.

Wealthy New Yorkers are seeking exemptions to Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s second-home tax, with thousands filing applications to avoid the levy.

Time to leave, not beg favors from the government.

New York City Hall confirmed to FOX Business that as of Monday, about 4,800 property owners have started the process of applying for an exemption to the pied-à-terre tax. Of that total, about 2,000 property owners have completed their exemption applications.

The fact that exemptions are available suggests that, in addition to making a political talking point, it’s also going to serve as a vehicle for Democrat graft.

Individuals who have been notified about being potentially subject to the pied-à-terre tax have until Sept. 18 to apply for an exemption, according to the New York City Department of Finance. That deadline was extended from the original deadline of Aug. 21.

Available to the politically well-connected … and those who pony up the appropriate sweetener, no doubt. This is, after all, New York.

On July 1, 2026, New York City put into place its tax on second homes—the so-called pied-à-terre tax on high-value homes, condos, and co-ops within the city. That tax was applied retroactively from January 1, 2026, but its retroactive application is only one of the many problems with a tax whose two major supporters are New York State Governor Kathy Hochul and Mayor Zohran Mamdani. On the day of its publication, the lead editorial of the New York Times dismissed an anticipated fuss over the new tax as though it were no big deal, billing it as a corrective against out-of-staters who freeloaded on New York’s vast cultural and social resources. The Director of Finance in the City, Richard Lee, announced that the city is “committed to implementing the new nonprimary residence property surcharge fairly and efficiently.” But the public mood sharply changed when the Mamdani administration took one large and foolish step when it published a list containing some 960,000 units that could be subject to the tax, including, as the New York Post notes, such celebrities as Woody Allen, Anna Wintour and Cynthia Nixon. The mayor thinks that he can clear $500 million per year, while the Democratic City Controller puts that number between $340 and $380 million—which, given the pace of events, could also be too high. But the bad news is out of the bag: the tax roll already “far exceeds early estimates.”

The story already looks like a colossal policy misadventure. So as the events continue to play out, it is useful to conduct a post-mortem to explain how the legal situation came to this. The driving force behind the campaign is a proud boast: TAX THE RICH. Mamdani makes no bones about it. As he stated on Tax Day, “I promised that we would tax the rich, and with our new pied-à-terre tax, that is exactly what we have done . . . to fund our parks, schools, and libraries.” At the same time, Governor Hochul pleads with the rich ex-New Yorkers to return home, knowing full well that their exodus was driven by a mix of oppressively high taxes and repressive regulations. A pied-à-terre tax is not a way to lure them home.

So now the acid test for the new pied-à-terre tax is this: what does it do to help the situation, especially when it doesn’t only tax the rich? To see how counterproductive the new pied-à-terre tax system is, look at the full table put out by the Department of Finance that covers all classes of non-primary residents, even though there can be only one primary residence, even for full-time New Yorkers with two or more homes in the city.

This says the quiet part out loud: Most of “The Rich” in New York are exactly the Wokerati that Mamdani counts on as his base. Politics is all well and good when it just means verbal virtue-signaling; when it hits the actual pocket-book, well … I suspect that the exodus from New York City will accelerate.

Shortly after Virginia removed more than 6,500 noncitizens from its voter rolls, Gov. Abigail Spanberger said she has restored voting rights for 10 times that many convicted felons in the state.

Virginia’s state constitution permanently disenfranchises convicted felons but gives the governor’s office broad discretion in restoring the rights. Spanberger announced Friday that 66,085 formerly incarcerated Virginians have had their voting rights restored since she took office in January.

“The right to vote is foundational to who we are as Americans. As a Member of Congress, as a candidate for Governor, and in the months since I took office, I have heard from many Virginians who have shared their personal stories of redemption with me — and heartfelt reflections of the moment their voting rights were restored by previous governors,” Spanberger said in a public statement.

Accordingly, the restoration of voting rights to a convicted felon ought to entail the same sort of scrutiny as pardoning said criminal. But Democrats need the votes, so blanket amnesty it is.

U.S. District Judge Allison Burroughs issued an order on Friday blocking the Trump administration from ending Temporary Protected Status for Somali nationals. It was a brazen display of judicial activism, and it took Republicans about a weekend to respond.

Rep. Andy Ogles (R-Tenn.) announced he will file articles of impeachment against Burroughs on Monday, accusing her of trampling both the Constitution and a Supreme Court ruling that should have ended this fight already.

Prominent liberal podcaster and NYU professor Scott Galloway called out New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s publicly accessible database, saying it endangers landowners like himself.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani opened a new front in his ongoing battle with New York City’s wealthy after his administration published a searchable database identifying affluent property owners who could be subject to the city’s proposed pied-à-terre tax, a move critics say could expose them to harassment and public safety risks.

Former Vice President Kamala Harris has long spoken about the importance of being surrounded by other black or minority Americans. But her new $8.5 million home is located in an exclusive Malibu neighborhood where the population is overwhelmingly white.

Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff, purchased a 4,000-square-foot mansion in Point Dume, one of Malibu’s most exclusive coastal enclaves. Point Dume’s population is approximately 94% white and just 0.2% black, according to a Fox News report citing the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2019 American Community Survey.

Despite a career-long commitment to combating racial disparities in housing and touting the importance of living among Black people, former Vice President Kamala Harris’ new California mansion is situated in a neighborhood with virtually no racial diversity.

Harris’ new 4,000-square-foot property, which reports indicate she acquired for $8.15 million, is located in the exclusive seaside community of Point Dume and includes ocean views, multiple wine fridges, private golf greens and enough parking to accommodate five vehicles.

Point Dume is situated entirely within Census tract 8004.08, which the Census Bureau’s American Community Survey estimated was just 0.2% Black and roughly 94% White as of 2019.

Harris’ choice of neighborhood may surprise longtime observers given past comments she has made about the importance of living among other Black Americans.

In November, California voters will have the opportunity to vote on Proposition 39. The measure, officially the Voter Identification, Citizenship Verification, and Registered Voter List Administration Initiative, would require Californians to show identification when they vote and force state officials to clean up the voter rolls and verify that the people on them are eligible citizens.

All signs suggest it will pass. A poll from the UC Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies found in May that 71% of Californians support requiring proof of citizenship for first-time voter registration, and 54% want it required before every election. However, Attorney General Rob Bonta is trying to make sure it doesn’t pass.

His latest move came on July 21, just months before the November election, when Bonta rewrote the official ballot title for Prop 39, replacing the language he himself approved last year with a new title that proponents say is engineered to make voters reject it.

Advocates for voter ID in California have sued the state over altered ballot language for the November initiative.

The ballot initiative Proposition 39, which would amend the state constitution to require that voters provide government-issued identification to vote, originally included the description, “Establishes additional voter identification and citizenship verification requirements.”

However, last week, California Attorney General Rob Bonta, a Democrat, changed the language to say: “Prohibits citizens from voting unless they present government-issued identification.”

Plaintiffs supporting the passage of Proposition 39 say it would not “prohibit” any votes. Under federal law—the Help America Vote Act—voters can cast provisional ballots if there is a question about their eligibility.

Further, supporters of the ballot initiative contend that state law requires state officials to “give a true and impartial statement of the purpose of the measure” in developing ballot language, KCRA Channel 3 Sacramento reported. The lawsuit calls the state’s updated description “not a true and impartial statement of the measure’s purpose.”

Lt. Gov. Sylvia Luke, a Democrat, was indicted by an Oahu grand jury on Friday on charges of criminal conspiracy to commit bribery, bribery, and falsifying candidate committee reports. The charges stem from an alleged 2022 scheme, dating to her time as a powerful state lawmaker, to steer state money toward COVID-19 testing contracts during the pandemic. Hawaii News Now reported that legal experts are calling it the biggest bribery scandal in state history.

Luke was one of five people named in the 12-count indictment. The others: Ryan Yamane, a former state representative and ex-director of the Department of Human Services; Tobi Solidum, a businessman and lobbyist; Ford Fuchigami, a Transportation Department official; and Leo Asuncion, a former chair of the state Public Utilities Commission. Luke turned herself in Friday afternoon; her bail was set at $80,000.

Gov. Josh Green did not wait for the case to develop. “The Lieutenant Governor needs to consider formally resigning to address this matter and so that the state of Hawai?i can move forward,” Green said in a statement Friday.

Lifelong New Yorker and real estate investor Charles Kushner is fleeing NYC for Florida because of, he says, Mayor Zohran Mamdani and First Lady Rama Duwaji’s antisemitism.

“I don’t want to pay taxes and live in a city with a blatantly antisemitic mayor and his antisemitic wife, period,” Kushner told The Post. “I also don’t want to live in the city with the people who voted for him.”

Kushner said his decision was driven less by Mamdani’s socialist policies than by what he described as the mayor’s hostility toward Jews and Israel — pointing to Mamdani’s refusal to march in the Israel Day Parade, his call to have Benjamin Netanyahu arrested as a war criminal, his outreach to Columbia University protesters who celebrated Hamas and Duwaji seeming to celebrate the horrific attacks on October 7.

The Pacific Research Institute released a study this week breaking down how taxpayers are paying for “a program that has grown beyond the state’s ability to effectively manage it.”

The findings come as the Trump administration announced on July 21 that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services is pausing over $860 million in funding to California after federal officials discovered in-home supportive services claims that significantly exceeded national trends.

Sally Pipes, the institute’s president, told the Daily Signal that rooting out fraud should be lawmakers’ top priority.

“If lawmakers could make only one thing happen this year, it should be eliminating fraud, waste, and abuse from Medi-Cal, which now covers 15 million Californians at a cost of $220 billion. The entire state budget for fiscal 2026-27 is $351.7 billion,” she said.

Congress doesn’t. Democrats in Congress do. The existence of tax-sheltered retirement accounts has been a running sore with the Democrat looters from day one.

Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., and Rep. Richard Neal, D-Mass., rolled out the Retirement Fairness for Working Americans Act this week, and the name alone tells you how Washington sells a bad idea. There is nothing fair about capping retirement accounts and forcing selloffs on people who did exactly what the tax code told them to do for 30 years. Fairness does not shrink the pot. This bill does.

I have spent three decades building investment strategies for single-family offices, running a hedge fund, and structuring private credit deals, and I serve as a designated expert witness on fiduciary duty in federal and state courts. I know the difference between closing a genuine loophole and moving the goalposts on savers who followed the rules Congress wrote. This bill is the second thing dressed up as the first.

The legislation, in both its House and Senate versions, targets anyone with more than $10 million combined across IRAs and defined contribution plans, barring further contributions and forcing a 50% annual drawdown on the excess, once income tops $400,000 for individuals or $450,000 for couples.

To justify this, Wyden and Neal point to Peter Thiel, whose Roth IRA grew into a multi-billion-dollar account after he placed early PayPal founder shares into it decades ago.

What’s yours is yours, unless Democrats want it, in which case it becomes theirs.

Democrats are in the midst of a fun and terrifying transformation. Hating Trump is no longer sufficient to win elections in blue states. Democratic primary voters—specifically the party’s core constituency of college-educated white professionals—are demanding candidates who also hate Israel and capitalism. A 2026 Pew Research Center survey found that 44% of American Muslims support Hamas, Iran’s funded terror proxy responsible for the mass rape, kidnapping, and slaughter of Israeli civilians.

Pew Research noted that around 66% of American Muslims vote Democrat.

Just days after Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced a major U.S. policy to “dismantle” the International Criminal Court because it threatened American sovereignty, New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani mused about the possibility of arresting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the basis of an ICC warrant.

This has become an ongoing theme for Mamdani—making vague claims about international law as an excuse to ignore domestic laws. When protesters gathered outside Park East Synagogue in New York in May, he condemned the Jews inside, not the violent mob outside. The synagogue was hosting a real-estate fair for properties in Israel.

“Mayor Mamdani is deeply opposed to the real estate expo this evening that includes the promotion of the sale of land in settlements in the Occupied West Bank,” his office said. “These settlements are illegal under international law.”

Foreign policy is an exclusively federal domain, but Mamdani regularly invoked international law even when he was only an assemblyman. As a mayoral candidate, he expressed support for boycotts and sanctions against Israel as a way of “creating compliance in international law.” As mayor-elect, he made his first threats to arrest Netanyahu because of ICC warrants against him. This was needed, he said, to make New York a “city of international law.” Of course, the United States is not a member of the ICC, having refused to join under both Republican and Democratic administrations because of the institution’s clear bias. ICC warrants are thus meaningless in America, and arresting Netanyahu would be a naked violation of a foreign head of state’s immunity. In short, Mamdani’s threats would be breaking international law, not enforcing it.

Oh, the cleats Trump will be wearing when he jumps in Mamdani’s shit if the socialist tries to pull something.

Despite multiple losses at the U.S. Supreme Court, Colorado continues to try to force an LGBTQ agenda on residents, and it costs taxpayers a great deal.

“There’s just double down after double down after double down,” Jonathan Scruggs, senior counsel and vice president of litigation strategy at Alliance Defending Freedom, told the Daily Signal in an interview Wednesday. “Even if that means losing in court, even if that means paying large amounts of attorney’s fees, that seems to be a lesser priority than targeting certain people, targeting certain beliefs.”

“You can teach a First Amendment class just on Colorado cases,” he added. “They’re doing a service to law students across the country.”
