More Left Coast progressivism.
Offices in California and Oregon will be partaking in the protest, which follows the El Paso Walmart shooting that left 22 people dead Saturday. The white-collar workers demand that one of America’s largest retailers cease gun sales, even though Walmart has regulated them since 1993, The Washington Post reported.
I’ll bet they wished they’d stayed in Bentonville AR.
Plenty of room in Texas. Just follow the crowd.

Ann Coulter makes a good case.
According to the Trump hysterics, if a terrorist cites X as the reason for his attack, then: 1) that constitutes definitive proof that X is false; and 2) anyone who agrees with X is providing “material support” to terrorists.
So, I guess I’d be in trouble if I were to say, “The El Paso shooting was an awakening, a moment of reckoning with politicians’ broken immigration promises and the avenging hatreds it arouses.”
That’s a paraphrase of what Michael Ignatieff wrote in 2003 in The New York Times magazine about the American Empire provoking the 9/11 terrorists.

On January 2 of this year, the Baltimore Police Department sent out its annual analysis of the city’s homicides: in 2018, there were 309. The majority of the victims were killed in the street and almost sixty percent died from a gunshot wound to the head. Ninety-four percent were black men.
The analysis also included data on the criminal records of the victims. The vast majority of homicide victims had been arrested before. One in four were either on parole or probation when they died.
…
In May 2013, Carlos Wheeler shot a young black man named Ronnie Thomas III, who got hit in the leg but survived. In April 2014, Thomas III was arrested for shooting at someone. In June 2015, Thomas III was shot and killed. The following month, Carlos Wheeler’s brother, Nathanial, was shot and killed — in retaliation for Carlos shooting at Thomas III back in 2013, prosecutors said.
Skinny Suge, who produced Stop Fucking Snitching, is legally named Ronnie Thomas — Ronnie Thomas III was his son. Addressing Baltimore’s epidemic of violence means reaching Baltimoreans like the Thomases. Police might not be the best people for that job.

Steve Sailer pulls it all together.
If a president cited crime statistics to rile up racial hatred, but his speech was immediately followed by a terrorist massacre, would he be criticized?
Well, not if he were Barack Obama, whose July 7, 2016, TV oration from Warsaw denouncing the police shootings of two black men was followed later that day by the murder of five policemen at a Dallas Black Lives Matter march. Ten days after Obama’s speech, three more cops were murdered in Baton Rouge.

The Mexican government, which has contributed heavily to Mexico having one of the world’s worst homicide rates, has announced it may seek legal action against the United States “for failing to protect its citizens after this weekend’s mass shooting in the border city of El Paso.”
One of the reasons, although not the only one of course, that Mexicans are coming to the U.S. is because they’re safer here than in Mexico.

Elon Musk unveiled prototypes of Tesla’s solar roof tiles in October 2016. They came in four styles that looked just like normal roofing material but were essentially miniaturized versions of traditional solar panels. The roof tiled reveal helped Tesla justify a 2.6 billion dollars acquisition of solar city and represented Musk’s vision for where the businesses could do together. It’s been almost two years since then so where are the tiles?

Hostile architecture is an intentional design strategy that uses elements of the built environment to guide or restrict behaviour in urban space as a form of crime prevention or order maintenance. It often targets people who use or rely on public space more than others, like people who are homeless and youth, by restricting the behaviours they engage in. Also known as defensive architecture, hostile design, unpleasant design, exclusionary design, or defensive urban design, hostile architecture is most typically associated with “anti-homeless spikes” — studs embedded in flat surfaces to make sleeping rough uncomfortable, and impractical. Other measures include sloped window sills to stop people sitting, benches with armrests positioned to stop people lying on them, and water sprinklers that “intermittently come on but aren’t really watering anything.” Hostile architecture also seeks to deter skateboarding, littering, loitering, and public urination. Critics argue that such measures reinforce social divisions and create problems for all members of the public, especially seniors, people with disabilities, and children.
We have the technology.

After the El Paso shooter uploaded a four-page manifesto to the online chat forum known as 8chan, the media and journalists lobbied for the site to be taken down.
Some liberal journalists insisted that censorship was a solution to shooters posting their manifestos on the site. Cloudflare, the network provider for 8chan, terminated its deal on August 5. This decision hindered the website’s ability to deal with law enforcement looking to close the case of the El Paso massacre and caused 8chan to shut down temporarily.

The US presidential election is more than 15 months away, and already we’re seeing elitist establishment narrative managers rolling out their long-anticipated “Stop Rebelling and Support Biden, You Insolent Little Shits” campaign. HBO’s Bill Maher spent his “New Rule” monologue segment last night admonishing his audience to abandon any notion of progressive reform and embrace the former vice president instead.

Interview on C-SPAN.
Kevin dislikes a lot of the same people that I do, so I find his views very agreeable.
Kevin’s basic problem is that he’s a libertarian, and libertarians are (like proglodytes) heirs of Rousseau, people who think that the individual is an autonomous ‘unit’ both socially and economically. The heirs of Rousseau think of existing social relationships that form a culture are like cobwebs, sticky encumbrances that need to be brushed off so that units can go cleanly and efficiently about their business of rationally re-ordering human relationships according to the really excellent plan they’ve just come up with and not sticking with the messy and ugly relationships that ‘just grew’ through historical processes.
Libertarians are better than most Rousseauians but they assume that because individuals are autonomous economic units, which is fairly accurate in the First World (there aren’t a lot of libertarians outside of the First World), they are therefore autonomous social units, which is patently false. Each individual is firmly embedded in a web os social relationships extending from family/friends outward in progressively larger circles until they encompass the entire planet. This is true from cradle to grave; the only way to escape such webs is to dive into the jungles of the Amazon rainforest and spend every waking hour avoiding other humans. Society is like gravity — if you and another human are close enough to interact, you have a relationship whether you like it or not, and the only thing undetermined is what the exact nature of the relationship will be.
Libertarians, like proglodytes, are so in love with their mechanistic, rationalistic view of the world that they never pause to examine how things work in reality, but rather live in a fantasy land where their dreams will come true if they find the right star on which to wish. A lot of them realize this, consciously or not, so libertarianism winds up as a broad smear ranging from libertarianish conservatives near the middle right the way out to radical libertarians on the lunatic fringe. This is why there is no significant libertarian political movement, and why the various Libertarian Parties are such a joke.
But just because they don’t have any of the right answers doesn’t impair the fact that libertarians are pretty good at coming up with uncomfortable questions for the rest of us. And Kevin is very good at that.

ZMan points the finger.
he official story on the seditious plot to overturn the 2016 election is that nothing happened and citizens should return to the economic duties. A few over-enthusiastic agents engaged in nothing more than office gossip. All is well. Like everything that comes from the rulers, this is all nonsense, but this is just how things are with a highly corrupt ruling class. The rulers don’t lie because they are hiding something. They lie because they take pleasure in humiliating the people.
There are plenty of theories about what went on, supported by leaked documents and clever people fitting puzzle pieces together. The website The Last Refuge has done a lot of work aggregating publicly available data. They are a bit conspiratorial and often fill in blanks with speculation, but they have a lot of good stuff. Doug Ross has put together an amazing list of news items related to the plot. Seeing all of the planted news stories in chronological format makes for interesting reading.
I love the smell of conspiracy in the morning.

Of course, now that Arabic is the key language for career advancement in places that have no sign out front and a large eagle emblem in the lobby, the civilian programs have begun started to attract the kinds of calculating douchebags who used to make studying Russian so unpleasant. They are still in the minority, but having even one of these guys (and they’re always guys) in your class can lead to needless suffering.
I know some of those guys.
Nearly all Arabic words consist of a three-consonant root slotted into a pattern of vowels and helper consonants. The root gives the word its base meaning, while the pattern modifies this meaning in a systematic and predictable way. This idea is so cool that you’d think it came from a constructed language, and yet Arabic has actual native speakers who live completely normal lives and will not try to talk to you about Runescape.
Arabic rivals Greek in its suitability for theological discussion.

Harris came out of the first debate the clear winner and Gabbard cut her down to size with one of the single best minutes of political television since Donald Trump told Hillary Clinton, “Because you’d be in jail.”
Gabbard’s takedown of Harris was so spot on and her closing statement about the irresponsible nature of the Trump Administration’s foreign policy was so powerful she had to be actively suppressed on Twitter.
And, within minutes of the debate ending the media and the political machines moved into overdrive to smear her as a Russian agent, an Assad apologist and a favorite of the alt-right.
Rush Limbaugh has made the same point. Harris is, of course, the DemLegHump Media candidate, and anybody getting in her way is in for a thrashing.

ZMan shares his thoughts.
Watching the Democrats debate the last two nights, the unmistakable impression is that the people turning America into a land of strangers has not thought about how such a land can operate as a democracy. The debate field has just about one from every category among the ascendant. The only thing they are missing is a 65-IQ East African and a Muslim wearing a dynamite vest. Otherwise, the field looks like the brochure for multiculturalism the party likes to wave around.
One thing that they were missing, of course, is a Woman of Color as part of the Media Straight Person Team.
That’s been the theme so far. In round one, the angry black women, who used to sleep with Willie Brown, led the charge against Joe Biden. Creepy Uncle Joe was a racist because 80 years ago when he started running for office, he held normal opinions about stuff like most everyone at the time. Everyone else then spent their time explaining how they have never had normal thoughts about anything. It was a two-episode explanation on why none of those people are like you.
Here’s the part I like best:
At the risk of sounding impolite, no decent man wants to live in a society that sends its mothers and daughters into combat. If you want to understand why so many of us harbor dark thoughts about the people who rule over us, it’s right there. Tulsi Gabbard should be home raising her children, not running for president. No women should be serving in the military, outside of administrative and medical areas. There should never be a discussion about putting girls in combat – ever.
As Robert A. Heinlein liked to say, ‘Women are whom we fight for, not whom we fight with’. Preach it, brother.

ZMan introduces a little biological reality.
The nature of all human society is that there is an elite that sits atop the society, providing both order and structure to the whole. Because the apple does not fall far from the tree, elites tend to be inherited. The sons and daughters of the ruling class make up the next generation’s ruling class. In Guatemala, for example, a small number of families have controlled the country since the 16th century. Despite what the science deniers will tell you, biology is a real thing and it matters.
The recent college admissions scandal points up the fact that people will lie, cheat, steal, and sometimes go to jail to make sure that their progeny get every advantage, ‘earned’ or not. People will jaw on all day about ‘merit’, without admitting that ‘merit’ sometimes includes things over which the individual has no control. like skin color. Skin color has always been a factor in getting admitted to elite colleges, for example, except that around 1970 the preference switched from white to non-white — but being a famous person’s kid has always been the golden ticket. Chelsea Clinton is the current poster child for this phenomenon.
That’s what you see happening with the Democrat Party. They want to be a coalition that is white presenting at the top, with maybe some token color, and the new coalition of the ascendant at the bottom. The trouble is, they seem to lack the willpower and ruthlessness to do it. They just purged leadership staff because they are too white. The tribes of the coalition don’t know their place and the only way they can know their place is if the ruling elite puts them in their place.
One commenter on Steve Sailer’s site pointed out that the group picture of the last Democrat debate looked like an elderly affluent couple (Bernie and Fauxcohontas) and their eight grown children (including the token gay boy Mayor Pete). You’ll notice that the DemLegHump Media’s favorite ‘people of color’ are mulattos like Don Lemon, Trevor Noah, and Barack Obama, people who have as many white ancestors as black.

The debate that was turned out to be Sanders-Warren versus three less extreme candidates — no-hopers all — who attacked from the right. John Delaney was the most effective of the trio, but John Hickenlooper and Tim Ryan had their moments.
…
Since Warren and Sanders didn’t clash, there was no clear winner between the two. However, I give the nod to Warren because she came across as less weird than Sanders. If I were a left-wing Democrat, I’d be less uncomfortable with Warren as the standard-bearer than with Bernie. But I’m not, so what do I know?

John Hinderaker at Power Line deals with a popular proglodyte trick.
One of the left’s favorite tricks is to assert that a conservative has said something “without evidence.” The formula has become ritual, but usually it just means that the liberal employing it has no idea whether the conservative’s statement is correct, and is too lazy to try to find out.
By contrast, count up how many ‘journalists’ assert that Trump has committed ‘impeachable offenses’ without evidence.

Building the Obama center at the currently desired location “will have an adverse effect to Jackson Park Historic Landscape District and Midway Plaisance because it will alter, directly or indirectly, characteristics of the historic property that qualify it for inclusion in the National Register,” the report stated. “Primary physical changes that are concentrated in the western perimeter of Jackson Park and the eastern Midway Plaisance impact adjacent park areas including the Lagoons, Fields, and Lake Shore. The changes alter the legibility of the design of the cultural landscape in ways that diminish the overall integrity of spatial organization in the property as a whole.”
