Hipsters exhibit a nostalgia for the past that echoes right-leaning political movements around the world.
Apparently, to a properly ‘woke’ person, hipsterism is a right-wing phenomenon.
Who knew?

Just when you think you’ve seen the most ridiculous thing ever, they surprise you.
Just as the people who got richest from a gold rush were those who supplied the poor schmucks panning for gold, in the modern world those who make the most money are those who create the tools for virtue-signaling.
Barnum was right, there’s one born every minute.

There are more than a million discussion forums on Reddit, and if you can’t find what you’re looking for in any of those—well, there’s a forum for that, too. Two weeks ago, a user named WeHaveAllBeenThere went to the “Find a Reddit” group in search of a place “where you post a picture of the inside of your refrigerator and people guess how old you are or what your job is.” Within an hour, someone had created a subreddit called Fridge Detective, and in the thirteen days since twelve thousand more sleuths have signed on to examine, in minute detail, the interiors of one another’s refrigerators. Like a party guest poking around in the host’s medicine cabinet, or a magazine throwing back the doors on a celebrity shoe closet, the icebox snoops hunt for clues in patterns of consumption. Crisper drawers bursting with a rainbow of produce? Neatly marshalled rows of bottled water? A half-eaten yogurt, a packet of cheese, fifteen types of mustard, and a single bottle of beer? In these oddly intimate snapshots of place, class, and culture, everything—even nothing—says something.

Individual contributions to Tom Steyer’s renewable energy campaign raised less than five dollars in the last reporting period.
Clean Energy for a Healthy Arizona — a pro-renewable energy organization backed by billionaire activist Tom Steyer — raised a grand total of $4.88 from individual contributions from mid August to the end of September, according to the latest campaign finance report. The lone donor, a resident out of Phoenix, gave nowhere near the amount of Steyer’s environmental group during the same time period.

I venture to say that there are no Republican witches.
Modern Wicca and other New Age traditions in the ’50s, ’60s, and ’70s were tied to second-wave feminism. Witchcraft and ritual have become more prominently associated with progressive political causes in recent years with the rise of the contemporary #magicresistance. Last year, for example, a 13,000-strong Facebook group formed to cast regular binding spells on Donald Trump.
But in the aftermath of the bitter fight over Kavanaugh’s confirmation, during which the judge firmly denied sexual misconduct against Ford or other women who came forward with similar allegations, rituals have become more than just an emotionally rewarding part of political energy-raising. They’ve also become a form of self-care.
People who believe that socialism works will believe almost anything.

Ta-Nehisi Coates is surely the most prominent herald of woke capitalism. Coates is the most famous writer in America, which makes him de facto the most famous writer in the world. He’s written one good book that nobody’s read, one bad book that everybody’s read and one cash-in-your-chips volume of previously published material that made his publishers very happy.

Actress-turned-gubernatorial candidate Cynthia Nixon has laid out one very specific demand going into Wednesday’s televised debate with her primary opponent, New York’s incumbent Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo: she wants the temperature in the debate hall of Hofstra University on Long Island raised to 76 degrees for the event.
A top Nixon strategist, Rebecca Katz, reportedly emailed WCBS-TV ahead of the event, suggesting that a failure to agree to that particular temperature setting could be viewed as “sexist.” The New York Times, upon obtaining a copy of that email, reported, “Ms. Katz wrote that working conditions are ‘notoriously sexist when it comes to room temperature, so we just want to make sure we’re all on the same page here’.”
I’m really curious how a temperature can be ‘sexist’. I think it’s more a case of the candidate being ‘moronic’.

Austin’s Equity Office has recommended renaming the Texas city because of Stephen F. Austin’s alleged views on slavery. But why stop at just renaming Austin when Amerigo Vespucci took and sold slaves.
Austin, Texas is named after Stephen F. Austin, but America is named after Amerigo Vespucci.
We could rename in ‘Indiana’. Of course we would then need to rename the State of that name, but that would be easy: Wabash — it’s already there, in the State Song.

A group of environmentalists are claiming “necessity defense” regarding their attempts in 2016 to shut down two pipelines, arguing that the threat of climate change is so imminent that they were justified in their actions. The Minnesota Court of Appeals in April ruled in their favor. The Minnesota Supreme Court subsequently declined to review this decision, allowing the protesters to fight their criminal charges using the necessity defense strategy.
I’d like to see their evidence that ‘climate change’ is even a thing. Courts aren’t like universities, they want to see actual proof, not ‘models’.
None of the four activists charged are actually natives of Minnesota, but hail from far away areas, such as Seattle and New York City.
Courts also like to see some showing that there is some personal connection to the alleged harm. This could get amusing.
“For many of us engaging in work to avert civilizational collapse, there comes a point when all else has fallen away, and it becomes clear that the one thing left for us to do is to put our bodies in the way of the machine,” reads a portion of their website.

One of the chief delicti intellecti of environmentalists is their congenital inability to Think Things Through. They obsess constantly about the alleged horrible externalities of traditional power sources but never give any thought to those of their favored replacements.

Historians are going to be spending decades trying to divine the reasons why Donald Trump became the 45th President of the United States. But what about divination itself? That’s the explanation given in a new book by occult historian Gary Lachman. Dark Star Rising: Magick and Power in the Age of Trump argues that the President and his alt-Right followers used positive thinking, magic, and occult practices to defeat Hillary Clinton.
The idea is that Trump came to power through the use of “New Thought,” which is a generic name for “a variety of different beliefs, philosophies, and practices that have as their central theme the idea that the mind can influence reality directly, that through mental effort alone we can ‘make things happen,” writes Lachman, a musician and the author of critical studies of Karl Jung, Rudolf Steiner, Madame Blavatsky, and other figures in the Western esoteric tradition.
The real-estate magnate and his supporters apparently willed him into the White House by tapping into a non-material realm that allows those with the right skills, or the right amount of willpower and positive thinking, to create their imagined reality.
Of course. It’s all clear to me now. (But I thought all those kinds of people were Democrats? Oh, dear, I’m confused….)
