How Immigration Officials Cooked the Books and Fooled Congress for Years

20th June 2018

Read it.

From 1996 through 2016, just under half of all aliens who were set free pending a trial date—1.25 million in total—were ordered removed, i.e. deported. Of that number, 952,291 were removed for evading court. Less than a quarter of this same group actually appeared in court. Over the span of more than two decades of court business, nearly two-fifths (37 percent) of those who were let free before their trial ended up fleeing court.

Since 1996, an average of 45,000 migrants each year disappeared, adding to a backlog of unexecuted removal orders that in 2016 numbered 954,000. If predictions are correct, nearly 57,000 people will evade their hearings in 2018 and bring the 23-year failure-to-appear total to 1.05 million—that’s 9.3 percent of the illegal population in the U.S. as measured by a 2017 Pew Research Center study.

It is here that damage to the courts, immigration enforcement, and national security intersect.

Notes on the IG Report

15th June 2018

John Hinderaker reads it so you don’t have to.

Evidently many FBI employees at senior levels (as reflected in Attachments G and H) were working hand-in-glove with Democratic Party reporters. It isn’t hard to deduce the purpose of these constant communications.

The IG’s report exposes a corrupt and politicized FBI and Department of Justice. And so far, we are seeing only half of the story, at most. No one has yet looked into the Democrats’ “Russia” tale or any partisan corruption linked to Bob Mueller’s farcical “investigation.” Given DOJ’s bitter refusal to cooperate with the Congressional committees that have constitutional oversight responsibilities over that Department–has anyone tried to justify DOJ’s stonewalling? If so, I haven’t seen it–we can assume that the damning documents that have been produced so far are only the beginning. Most likely, they provide only an inkling of the information the Justice Department, apparently still dominated by Obama holdovers, is withholding from Congress, or perhaps has already destroyed.

Obama’s Surprising New Foes

4th June 2018

Read it.

Apparently the road to Obamaland is not as smooth as one might think.

On May 14, a preservationist group called Protect Our Parks filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Chicago, seeking a court order that would bar local government agencies from building Obama’s center in the revered and beautiful Jackson Park, which served as the site of the Chicago World’s Fair in 1893. The group also wants to bar the city from giving control of the center’s site to the Obama Foundation. They are opposed by a phalanx of avid Obama supporters headed by Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel and including local labor unions, businesses, newspaper editorial boards, and a range of do-gooders who have uncritically embraced Obama’s library plans.

Imagine if Republicans had concocted a scheme to sell public land for a song to build a Donald Trump presidential library. Protect Our Parks argues that this is what the city of Chicago has done with Obama’s library, asserting that the Chicago Park District and the City of Chicago don’t have the authority to transfer public parkland to a nongovernmental entity such as the Obama Foundation, especially for a nominal amount of money and in violation of state law that bars the “illegal taking of public park land.” The suit claims the sale is “a short con shell game, a corrupt scheme to deceive and seemingly legitimize an illegal land grab.”

Sounds like Obama to me.

US Customs Seizes Ohio Family’s Life Savings at Airport

3rd June 2018

Read it.

Rustem Kazazi, 64, was headed to his native Albania to visit relatives in October, according to a federal lawsuit that he, his wife, Lejla, and son, Erald, filed this week in Ohio against the agency and others.

The suit alleges Customs and Border Protection used civil forfeiture laws to take the money without arresting or charging anyone with a crime.

As they far too often do.

Customs agents “interrogated him without a translator, and then seized his family’s life savings without charging anyone with a crime,” according to the Institute for Justice, whose attorney, Wesley Hottot, is representing the Kazazi family in the lawsuit.

The Institute for Justice does great work, certainly much more so than the ACLU.

In December, Customs and Border Protection sent Kazazi a notice saying agents had seized the cash because it was “involved in a smuggling/drug trafficking/money laundering operation,” according to the lawsuit. The agency also said $57,330 was seized, or $770 less than Kazazi was carrying, the suit said.

Obama’s Pro-Union ‘Ambush’ Laws Hammered Small Businesses the Hardest

22nd May 2018

Read it.

Obama’s National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), responsible for overseeing union elections and enforcing labor laws, changed rules governing the process of unionizing the workforce. The changes expedited the election process, cutting down the time business management is notified about an election to when voting begins, from 38 days to 23.

Obama’s “ambush ruling” has appeared to prop up the union success rate in winning elections. Overall, unions are back to winning about 69 percent of elections, which is on par for unions’ historic win rate. Unions usually win elections because they put off petitioning for a vote until they are reasonably sure they can win.

The FBI Spy in the Trump Campaign and the Mueller Cover-Up Operation

21st May 2018

The Other McCain sums up what we know so far.

Here’s the thing: FBI officials didn’t expect Hillary to lose. As we know, text messages between two high-ranking FBI officials discussed an “insurance policy” to prevent Trump from becoming president. Because they expected Hillary to win, they also expected to be able to prevent this taxpayer-funded espionage from becoming public knowledge.

And then Trump won.

Democrat operatives — in the Clinton campaign, in the Obama administration, in the federal bureaucracy, and in the media — panicked at the thought of what the newly-elected president might do (e.g., expose the corruption at the Justice Department) used information from the Steele dossier as a pretext for the Mueller “investigation.” Yet there was never any actual “Russian collusion” to investigate, and the purpose of appointing a special counsel was . . . what? To create a phony “scandal”? To undermine the legitimacy of the new administration? To cover up wrongdoing by the Obama administration and the FBI?

Govt Paid Half a Billion in Disability Checks to People Who Had Jobs

19th May 2018

Read it.

The Social Security Administration improperly disbursed an estimated $571 million in disability benefits to people who had already returned to work, according to a government audit report.

Of the half a billion estimated overpayments, nearly $201 million of the improperly disbursed benefits checks were due to the administration’s slow processing, and the almost $371 million was the fault of the beneficiaries who didn’t complete paperwork on time, the Office of the Inspector General (IG) wrote in a report released Tuesday.

This is why you don’t want the government in charge of our health care. Whenever you read an article in the Proglodyte Press about how broken our health care system is, if you read it you find out that the reason it’s broken is because the government is so heavily involved. Whenever you read an article in the Proglodyte Press about how expensive drugs are in the U.S. compared to some cherry-picked overseas nation, they never mention the fact that it’s primarily due to the barriers the FDA puts in the way of medical research, barriers that can only be climbed by traversing a mountain of cash, which cash has to be recovered somehow in order to remain in business.

Socialists, Big Labor Behind ‘Head Tax’ That Punishes Seattle Businesses for Hiring

16th May 2018

Read it.

Maxford Nelson, director of labor policy at the Freedom Foundation in Olympia, Wash., told The Daily Caller News Foundation the city council’s message was “clear.”

“[The city council] does not view businesses as entities driving the job growth and prosperity in Seattle,” Nelson told TheDCNF. “The city council views businesses as entities to be punished and taxed for every employee that they hire.”

The “head tax,” as it is commonly called, was pushed principally by socialist city council member Kshama Sawant and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) — one of the largest labor unions in the U.S.

I wonder how long before Jeff Bezos will take the hint. Socialists steal. It’s the heart of their ideology.

Seattle Passes Smaller ‘Head Tax’ on Big Companies After Impassioned Debate

15th May 2018

The basic problem is that the tax-eaters in Seattle see ‘corporations’ as cash cows to be milked for ever-increasing welfare entitlements, and the city government uses those entitlements to buy votes. It’s the U.S. Congress in miniature. That’s why it only applies to ‘corporations’ over a certain size (the size where the number of small-business owners, i.e. voters, wouldn’t scream).

Millions of Dollars in Suitcases Fly Out of MSP, but Why?

15th May 2018

Read it.

This story begins at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, where mysterious suitcases filled with cash have become a common carry-on.

Fox 9 learned that these cloak-and-dagger scenarios now happen almost weekly at MSP. The money is usually headed to the Middle East, Dubai and points beyond. Sources said last year alone, more than $100 million in cash left MSP in carry-on luggage.

As Kerns dug deeper, he found that some of the individuals who were sending out tens of thousands of dollars’ worth of remittance payments happened to be on government assistance in this country.

How could they possibly come up with such big bucks to transfer back home?

“We had sources that told us, ‘It’s welfare fraud, it’s all about the daycare,’” said Kerns.

Why Companies Move

3rd May 2018

Read it.

Amazon has paused development of its 17-story building in Seattle amid a debate over a city tax hike that would cost the e-commerce giant an estimated $20 million annually.

“I can confirm that pending the outcome of the head tax vote by City Council, Amazon has paused all construction planning on our Block 18 project in downtown Seattle and is evaluating options to sub-lease all space in our recently leased Rainer Square building,” said Drew Herdener, an Amazon spokesperson.

The “head tax” would charge 26 cents per employee per hour for Seattle-based companies with $20 million or more in annual sales, affecting 585 of Seattle’s largest businesses. There are more than 45,000 Amazon employees in Seattle and its expansion in the city would have created 7,000 new jobs for the company.

Caputo was upset over his mounting legal expenses, which he said clock in at more than $125,000.

“Today, I can’t possibly pay the attendant legal costs and live near my aging father, raising my kids where I grew up,” Caputo said during his three-hour interview. “Your investigation and others into the allegations of Trump campaign collusion with Russia are costing my family a great deal of money — more than $125,000 — and making a visceral impact on my children.”

“Forget about all the death threats against my family. I want to know who cost us so much money, who crushed our kids, who forced us out of our home, all because you lost an election,” he added. “I want to know because God damn you to hell.”

Seattle Sued Over Law Banning Landlords From Conducting Criminal Background Checks

2nd May 2018

Read it.

On Tuesday, the Pacific Legal Foundation (PLF), a public interest law firm, filed suit on behalf of several small-time landlords who are concerned about the financial and personal safety risks of being unable to screen tenants for past wrongdoing.

The PLF’s complaint claims that the Seattle law violates landlords’ due process rights under the 14th Amendment by imposing an “unreasonable, overbroad, and unduly burdensome” regulation. The complaint also says the law runs afoul of the First Amendment by denying landlords access to publicly available records.
