Robert Mueller’s Case Against Michael Flynn Is About to Implode

29th April 2020

Read it.

The criminal case against Michael Flynn imploded Friday. First, the U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia provided Flynn’s legal team with documents discovered by an outside review of the Flynn prosecution — documents withheld for years. Then, Sidney Powell, the attorney who took over Flynn’s defense nearly a year ago, filed new documents in the case, revealing a secret “lawyers’ understanding” not to prosecute Flynn’s son if the retired lieutenant general pleaded guilty.

Trump Suspends Immigration

21st April 2020

John Hinderaker at Powerline has some thoughts.

Why is President Trump doing this? I assume he legitimately believes that some people arriving from foreign countries are carrying the Wuhan virus, and in the absence of easy, universal screening, we should keep them out while the alleged crisis continues. Beyond that, is he trying to make a point with liberals? Maybe he wants to illustrate how easily a purported crisis can be used to advance a political agenda. Liberals have made no secret of their desire to do this, openly touting the epidemic as an opportunity to achieve longstanding political goals. Maybe Trump wants to remind them that using an epidemic for political purposes can be a two-way street. Or maybe he just enjoys watching their heads explode, I don’t know.

I think a big part of it is just to demonstrate to proglodytes that sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander. It also underlines the existence of media bias when they scream and rant about Trump doing stuff that they would coo was ‘presidential’ if Obama — or, God help us, Biden — did them.

MI Governor Loses ‘Consent of the Governed’

15th April 2020

Read it.

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s handling of the COVID-19 lockdown has stood out as one of the most severe and arbitrary in the US. Michiganders are unable to purchase gardening supplies but lottery tickets are fine. They can travel to Walmart but not to their cabins in the countryside. They can paddle a canoe but can’t ride a jet ski.

Many officials and citizens have had enough. A group of county sheriffs announced Wednesday that they will not enforce some of Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s lockdown orders. At the same time, thousands of Michiganders gathered at the state capitol to protest her actions in a rally they dubbed “Operation Gridlock.”

Sheriffs from four contiguous counties in the northwest corner of the lower peninsula are placing their constitutional duties above the governor’s mandates.

Well, that’s what happens when Democrats run your state.

Chaos by the Bay

15th April 2020

Read it.

An odd pattern has emerged in San Francisco as the city responds to the Covid-19 pandemic. The world of the well-off has become tightly restricted by public quarantine orders, and the world of the poor increasingly resembles that of Mad Max—lawless, crime-ridden, and devoid of functioning authority.

Over just a few weeks, San Francisco has instituted a policy that can be described as “decarcerate, decriminalize, and depolice.” Reducing the jail population, permitting public camping and other forms of disorder, and scaling back police presence in low-income neighborhoods have always been the favored policies of San Francisco’s progressive activists. In the past, residents and business groups could restrain the most extreme impulses of the political class. Now, with the coronavirus providing cover, city leaders have pushed forward their agenda with new vigor.

Well, that’s what happens when Democrats run your city.

Senator Blumenthal Mad That Zoom Not Offering the Encryption His Law Will Outlaw

5th April 2020

Read it.

Richard Blumenthal has been attacking internet services he doesn’t understand since before he was even a US Senator. It has carried over into his job as a Senator, and was abundantly obvious in his role as a co-sponsor for FOSTA. His hatred of the internet was on clear display during a hearing over FOSTA in which he flat out said that if smaller internet companies couldn’t put in place the kind of infrastructure required to comply with FOSTA, that they should go out of business. Blumenthal’s latest ridiculous bit of legislation lose your Section 230 protections. And while Blumenthal likes to pretend that the EARN IT Act doesn’t target encryption, he also lied about FOSTA and insisted it had no impact on CDA 230 (which it directly amended).

But Blumenthal has now taken his ridiculousness up a notch. Following the (legitimately concerning) reports that the suddenly incredibly popular videoconferencing software Zoom was not actually providing end-to-end encrypted video chats (despite its marketing claims), Blumenthal decided to step in and play the hero sending an angry letter to the company, while linking to the Intercept’s original story about Zoom’s misleading claims about encryption….

There’s no pleasing some people.

FDA Prevents Import of Masks

2nd April 2020

Alex aubarrok, a Real Economist, is dumbfounded.

The KN95 mask is China’s version of the N95 mask. 3M, America’s largest manufacturer of N95 masks, said in January that the masks are equivalent. But the FDA is not allowing KN95s into the country.

Many hospitals are refusing to accept them, even as free donations, because they fear legal liability should a health care worker get ill while using a nonpermitted device…Although some hospitals flat-out reject KN95 masks at any price on advice of their lawyers, people rounding up masks to give to hospitals have found that individual doctors or nurses will often accept the donations, given the dire need.

Abusharia grabbed a gun and, according to police: “opened the door to the sales floor and discharged the weapon, striking one juvenile subject. The employee retreated to the back room but reentered the sales floor and discharged his weapon again as the subjects were attempting to flee the business.”

Abushariah reportedly faces charges of malicious wounding, violation of a protective order and reckless handling of a firearm.
