Within President Joe Biden’s infrastructure plan is $174 billion that would both extend the electric vehicle tax credit as well as replace government cars with electric ones. To put this level of waste into perspective: $174 billion is more than practically every state budget.
The proposal would federalize the failed climate mandates in California. It’s not hard to see what’s being forced on states (like my homestate, Kansas) next from the state that has become a socialist laboratory for bad policy experiments. California’s governor even recently signed an order that will phase out gas-powered cars by 2035. This is not based on reality.

The project is a boon for real estate developers and a constellation of nonprofits and service providers, but a boondoggle for taxpayers. The physical apartment units are bare-bones—small square footage, cheap flooring, vinyl surfaces—but have construction costs similar to luxury condos in the fashionable parts of Los Angeles.

A reminder: Businesses don’t pay taxes — businesses merely collect taxes from their customers for the government. Like any cost, the cost of taxes is incorporated into the price of goods sold; corporations really don’t care one way or another, since it doesn’t come off of their bottom line.
‘Taxing business’ is merely another shuck-and-jive on the part of politicians to disguise the fact that they are actually increasing taxes on ordinary citizens. Such taxes are regressive, hitting low-income people more than high-income people (who are less affected by high prices). Governments are constantly looking for ways to pick taxpayers’ pockets without getting noticed, which is why VAT is so popular in Europe.

Interpol isn’t an international police agency, even though Hollywood likes to depict it as such. It’s actually more like an electronic bulletin board on which police agencies around the world can post their “wanted” notices.
Other police agencies can read the notices—or ignore them—as they choose.
Interpol isn’t supposed to get involved in politics. But not all of its members—and almost every country, except North Korea and Kosovo, are members of Interpol—are so scrupulous.
Interpol abuse happens when a nation (usually an authoritarian regime) puts a “wanted” notice on the Interpol bulletin board on a political opponent.
This abuse is generically known as transnational repression, because it cuts across national borders and it involves everything from spyware to assassinations to Interpol. But Interpol abuse is an important facet of the wider problem.

The first court test of whether local governments can ban police from enforcing certain gun laws is playing out in a rural Oregon county, one of a wave of U.S. counties declaring itself a Second Amendment sanctuary.
The measure that voters in the logging area of Columbia County narrowly approved last year forbids local officials from enforcing most federal and state gun laws and could impose thousands of dollars in fines on those who try.
Second Amendment sanctuary resolutions have been adopted by some 1,200 local governments in states around the U.S., including Virginia, Colorado, New Mexico, Kansas, Illinois and Florida, according to Shawn Fields, an assistant professor of law at Campbell University who tracks them. Many are symbolic, but some, like in Columbia County, carry legal force.

If you have not yet reached forty years of age, you had not until this last month experienced the rate of consumer price increases Americans experienced in April. We have to journey all the way back to 1981 for that. How, with the labor force participation rate so low and so many jobs unfilled, can the prices of everything–including wages–be rising? Stagflation isn’t supposed to happen, especially not with so much supposed slack in the labor market!
That’s what happens when the Fed prints money as if it were toilet paper and the government spends it as if it were water.

On the Laura Ingraham show last night, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced that he will pardon all Floridians who have been charged with failing to wear masks or socially distance in compliance with COVID-related protocols imposed by counties. The immediate context was a criminal prosecution against a couple who own a Florida gym, and who refused to force customers to wear masks. They were facing jail terms of 120 days. The couple, Mike and Jillian Carnevale, were on the program with DeSantis.

California is cruising toward a 100% “green” energy future, or so the state’s leaders tell us. But how, exactly, will that objective be brought about? In March of this year, the responsible state agencies issued a plan to achieve 100% carbon dioxide-free electricity by 2045. That is an achievable goal if you use nuclear power. Unfortunately, California is trying to do it with wind and solar.

An animal shelter in Chicago has released over 1,000 feral cats onto Chicago streets since 2012 to help fight the city’s rat infestation.
The Tree House Humane Society spays or neuters the cats after capturing them and then releases the cats into residential and commercial areas, according to the shelter’s website.

The Other McCain points to the elephant in the room.
We all know what “diversity” means, even if we’re not allowed to say it plainly. “Diversity” in hiring or college admissions would not be controversial if it were, as proponents claim, merely about finding qualified women and POC (“people of color”) for prestige positions. Instead, what “diversity” actually means in practice is a secretive system of quotas where women and POC are hired (or admitted to elite schools) without regard to their relative qualifications. “Diversity” means a lowering of standard in the name of “equality,” and anyone who objects is smeared as a racist, sexist, homophobe. Occasionally, however, the problems with the “diversity” regime become so apparent that even well-mannered people can’t help but complain.

The Washington Post gave its readers a clear-eyed view this weekend of how American intel agencies work with sympathetic reporters to smear and discredit political opponents, ignoring a specific explanation from one of the article’s targets of how reporters were being used, and leading to embarrassing corrections in multiple articles (as well as in The New York Times and at NBC News).
The story targeted Rudy Giuliani and Wisconsin’s Sen. Ron Johnson, excitedly reporting that they were the targets of Russian disinformation campaigns and had been warned of this by the FBI. Sound familiar? Unsurprisingly, there were a number of problems.

The news that six states will gain seats in the House of Representatives and another seven will lose seats, thanks to new census numbers, was widely reported.
What was missed, though, is that the inclusion of noncitizens, including illegal aliens, in the population used to determine apportionment means that many Americans—and states—are being defrauded of their fair share of representation in Congress.
Nothing new here. The infamous ‘three-fifths rule’ in the original Constitution was the result of haggline between the slave states, who wanted to include noncitizen nonvoting black slaves for representation purposes, thereby increasing their clout in the House of Representatives, and the non-slave states, who wanted to count only citizens.

Massachusetts covers 7,800 square miles of land, yet thanks to a variety of land-use rules 92 percent of its residents are confined to a fifth of that land. Even in the Boston metropolitan area, thousands of acres of open space persist. Satellite imagery reveals huge stretches of open, largely undeveloped lands as close to twenty miles from downtown Boston.
