April 16 is Emancipation Day in Washington, D.C. The holiday commemorates the date in 1862 when President Abraham Lincoln signed the District of Columbia Compensated Emancipation Act, freeing 3,000 slaves in the D.C. area. It has been celebrated in the nation’s capital since 2005.
Because the April 16 holiday this year falls on a Saturday, it will officially be observed on the closest weekday – Friday, April 15 – closing city and federal offices in D.C. That means the tax day deadline is getting pushed back to Monday, April 18 for everyone except residents of Maine and Massachusetts. Residents in those states must file by April 19 since April 18 is Patriots’ Day.

Yesterday, I had to take an antibody test in order to get into the studio in Austin. The good news is that my natural immunity from my last round of COVID is robust – with IgA and even IgM Antibodies present.
This brings me again to one of my biggest issues with the public policy response. Natural immunity equals or trumps immunity from the genetic vaccines, because the natural immune response is broad (against the all 29 proteins of the SAVS-CoV-2 virus) and appears to hold up better against Omicron. This sustained and robust natural immunity also applies to children. We all know it. Why won’t our government and the main stream media admit it?
Why is it that the CDC website that lists 146 million people having already had COVID-19 in the USA has not been updated since October 2, 2021? A quick, back of the napkin calculation projects at least another 20-30 million have had COVID since then. Bringing the number of people who have had COVID to around 170 million. Well over half the people in the USA.
They never will, so long as Big Pharma holds their purse strings. KA-CHING!

You have to feel sorry for transit agencies. Congress gave them $69 billion COVID relief funds and $40 billion in the infrastructure bill on top of a $14 billion annual federal subsidy. But, due to labor shortages, agencies can’t find enough workers to drive around their nearly empty buses and trains.

Californians will ring in the new year with the unfurling of a groundbreaking law that will change how they dispose of their organic waste, particularly leftover food and kitchen scraps.
Senate Bill 1383 requires all residents and businesses to separate such “green” waste from other trash, but the program will be rolled out gradually for homes and businesses in the coming months, with the actual startup date varying, depending on the location of your home or business.
Fines can be levied for failing to separate organic refuse from other trash. But those charges aren’t scheduled to begin until 2024. CalRecycle, the state agency overseeing the change, has lots of information about the new requirements on its website.
Time to leave.

Steve says what we all know to be true.
Earlier today, I wrote a lot of material about Biden’s dementia being “discovered” suddenly by CNN’s Jeff Zeleny, but I decided not to publish it. A video took the wind out of my sails. Biden and his wife made the mistake of taking Christmas phone calls on camera. They were pretending to track Santa’s sleigh. One caller said, “Let’s go, Brandon!” Biden said, “Let’s go Brandon. I agree.”
He had no idea what was going on.
If you watch the video, you will also see Jill Biden coaching her husband. Even Jimmy Carter didn’t need that.

In Michigan, the state’s civil rights agency said proposed maps of legislative districts “do not measure up to the requirements of the law.” In Pennsylvania, Republican lawmakers complained about an “extreme partisan gerrymander.” And in Virginia, incumbents and potential challengers scrambled to work with proposed district maps.
In theory, new bureaucracies to draw up maps for congressional and legislative districts were supposed to save democracy from politics and block the practice of gerrymandering.
But this month has seen controversies on multiple fronts regarding the independent redistricting commissions involved.
Saw that comin’.
“California’s independent redistricting commission yields more disproportionate representation than most states,” Watson told The Daily Signal. “California Democratic Party-aligned advocacy groups lobbied the commission.”
Similarly, redistricting commissions in Arizona and Michigan have been “besieged by shadowy pressure campaigns,” The New York Times reported.
The Times noted a string of problems in other states that use a redistricting commission even as New York’s Democrat-controlled state Legislature was expected to ignore its advisory committee, just as Utah’s Republican Legislature did.
Ohio’s Republican-controlled Legislature overrode the independent commission with primary responsibility for redistricting.
My, what a surprise. Aren’t you surprised? I’m sure surprised.
I’ll refrain from repeating my explanation of how ‘gerrymandering’ improves democracy rather than the opposite, and from pointing out that the only people who profit from ‘competitive districts’ are Narrative Media who can gin up attention from the ‘horse race’.

Rep. Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash., chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, has introduced legislation that would game the nation’s regulatory system. Under her bill, regulations primarily would be based on studies that support expanding the regulatory power of government agencies.
Among many other troubling things, Jayapal’s bill would require agencies to publicly label studies and research submitted and developed by regulated entities—including property owners, farmers, truckers, and local governments—as having a conflict of interest.
It’s not clear how one’s own research reflects any conflicts of interest. Apparently, it’s a conflict when research conflicts with the agency’s interest.

President Biden gave his speech (cough, cough) on what my friend Kevin Roche refers to as the the Moronic Variant yesterday. He read from the teleprompter in his accustomed style and even took a few questions at the conclusion of his remarks. The White House has posted a transcript under the heading “Remarks by President Biden on the Fight Against COVID-?19.”
Having attributed responsibility for the Covid deaths that occurred last year to President Trump — I thought that was insanely stupid, but that what he did — Biden is in a bad spot now. Deaths attributed to the epidemic this year are set to exceed deaths last year. He promised to stop the virus and he has failed. Now he’s blaming and shaming and talking. Lots of talking. It doesn’t all add up, but he has achieved a limited form of clarity.

The systemic damage done to the world’s democracies during the COVID-19 pandemic was so great that it is tempting to imagine the hidden hand of powerful figures orchestrating the Great Reset. The horrifically costly NPIs were so obviously futile that there had to be deliberate organized malice at work to suppress the statistically obvious need to change policy.
There was indeed malice but not of Bond villain caliber. In reality, we put morons in charge and when their failures became evident, they and their moron-adjacent allies in media and academia doubled down and attacked and silenced dissidents. The Great Reset was perhaps merely a secondary infection.

The House’s vote to hold Mark Meadows in contempt has presented the Department of Justice (DOJ) with the question of whether to prosecute the former White House chief of staff, forcing it to weigh the major legal and political consequences that could come with breaking from longstanding executive branch policy.
The DOJ’s stance for decades, throughout both Democratic and Republican administrations, has been to support testimonial immunity for the president’s close advisers when faced with congressional subpoenas — the very policy Meadows and his attorneys have pointed to as he refused to show up for a deposition.
Charging Meadows with contempt of Congress for defying subpoenas from the House Jan. 6 Select Committee would represent a departure from that historical trend and poses more complicated considerations for the department than its decision to prosecute Stephen Bannon, who was not a White House official when he helped Trump sow distrust in the 2020 election results.
“For several decades, DOJ has taken the view that close advisers to the president are absolutely immune from congressional subpoena — that Congress has no ability to force them to testify,” said Jonathan Shaub, a constitutional law professor at the University of Kentucky. “That’s the doctrine DOJ most has to grapple with in deciding whether to prosecute.”

The Democrats’ media adjunct of course not only joined in the campaign to pressure Manchin, it also blamed him for the Biden’s failure to achieve passage of the bill (tweet below). This is classic. The Democrat press is not only stupid, it is the cause of stupidity in others. After Black Lives Matter protesters last year demanded that cities “Defund the Police,” San Francisco Mayor London Breed held a press conference to announce that her city would be one of the first to do exactly that. Breed announced $120 million in cuts to the budgets of both San Francisco’s police and sheriff’s departments. A spokesperson for the police officers’ union warned the cuts “could impact our ability to respond to emergencies,” but the police chief assured the public that the cuts “will not diminish our ability to provide essential services.”
Yesterday, Breed reversed herself in dramatic fashion, announcing that she was making an emergency request to the city’s Board of Supervisors for more money for the police to support a crackdown on crime, including open air drug dealing, car break-ins, and retail theft. The plan contains much of what the California Peace Coalition, which Environmental Progress and I cofounded last spring, has been demanding, including in a series of protests by parents of homeless addicts, parents of children killed by fentanyl, and recovering addicts.

Amid the fear, I’m surprised that we haven’t heard more about two drugs that could make COVID-19 much less of a threat.
In blind tests, Pfizer’s Paxlovid was found to reduce the risk of hospitalization and death by 89%! It was so effective that Pfizer was advised to stop the tests.
“They halted the clinical trials!” exclaims Michael Cannon, director of health policy at the Cato Institute in my new video.
“They decided it would be unethical (not to give the drug to people in the control group.) But if it’s unethical to deny them the drug, it’s unethical to deny the American public that drug!”
Excellent point. Yet that’s what the Food and Drug Administration is doing. They force us to wait until they’re sure all drugs “meet the agency’s rigorous standards.”
How long might they delay?
“If the FDA is following its current practice,” says Cannon, “it’ll be a matter of months.”
Months is an improvement over the 10 years it usually takes the FDA. During the pandemic, the FDA loosened regulations to get some medicines to people faster.
“(But) we’re still losing thousands of lives unnecessarily,” complains Cannon.
What’s a life or two lost, compared to Following The Rules?
