At a time when almost everyone in the nation is affected by supply-chain problems but almost no one is riding Amtrak, the Federal Railroad Administration is frantic about how Amtrak trains are being delayed by freight trains.
After all, we can’t delay the Bidens in getting home.

As Robert LeFevre said, “Government is a disease masquerading as its own cure.” The American people are witnessing a grand illustration of that truth in the form of the US Air Force airlift of baby formula from Europe to the United States. The airlift is part of the Biden administration’s response to a nationwide baby formula shortage that has desperate parents searching all over for the product and even venturing to create it themselves.
As the government credits itself for racing to the rescue, most people don’t realize the baby formula crisis is largely a creation of the government itself.

The honesty gap—the difference between Virginia students’ proficiency on Virginia’s Standards of Learning tests and their documented proficiency on the National Assessment of Educational Progress, which assesses student performance across the country in math, reading, science, and civics—is stark.
For example, although the state boasts a whopping 76% of eighth graders who were proficient in reading in 2019, just 33% of Virginia eighth graders scored as proficient in reading on the National Assessment of Educational Progress.
Similarly, whereas 77% of Virginia’s eighth graders scored proficient in mathematics on the Standards of Learning in 2019, that figure drops precipitously to just 38% of eighth graders as assessed by the National Assessment of Educational Progress. The same honesty gap exists for younger students, too.

Whistleblowers allegedly provided evidence to House Republicans showing the FBI targeted parents who raised concerns about local education issues through its counterterrorism unit, according to a letter from Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee.
The FBI’s Counterterrorism Division opened “at least dozens of investigations” into concerned parents through an EDUOFFICIALS “threat tag,” according to a letter from Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee addressed to Attorney General Merrick Garland that cited anonymous whistleblowers. Examples allegedly provided by the whistleblowers detail complaints made by those who opposed parents’ viewpoints on school curricula, mask mandates, and vaccine requirements.

A whistleblower lawsuit filed last month alleges that Rutgers University’s business school artificially boosted its rankings by using a temp agency to hire MBA graduates and place them into “sham positions at the university itself,” according to NJ.com, which first reported the news. Though shocking, the scandal is the natural result of the incentives the federal government has set up for schools through uncapped student loan subsidies for graduate programs.

‘Out of Touch With America’: Biden’s Small Business Budget Makes No Mention of Inflation
Bipartisan deal brings cheaper broadband to tens of millions of Americans Or that’s the Narrative. What it actually does is implement a cost-shifting arrangement (plus the money leakage to government employees that accompanies any government program) whereby the taxpayers as a group are forced to pay for a benefit delivered to some politically favored (i.e. we hope they vote Democrat) victim class. “Bipartisan deal” means neither side can predict who the bought votes will favor, but each thinks that it will be its side.

Every few days, Professor Kim Rich looks through new student registrations for the Los Angeles Community College District, including at Pierce College where she teaches criminal justice, and sees hundreds of newly created fake student enrollments.
In our conversations with Rich, she told us that It’s been going on for months.
Hackers enroll the fake students and collect up to $900 million in financial aid and Covid-19 aid each semester. However, no one seems to know for sure the sheer scale of the fraud.
These fake students, usually created by bots, open new accounts using easy-to-spot fake names like Barack Obama, Donald Trump or duplicate first names — Clifford Clifford, Jordan Jordan, Sidney Sidney, Kamara All of the above and fivethousandonehundredseven — names with questions marks or names with numbers.
New fake accounts are created, the fake students enroll in classes, taking seats away from actual students hoping to enroll in those classes. The fake accounts also “qualify” for financial aid.

Take this as yet another sign of Democratic paranoia. It’s a memo to Gavin Newsom: have someone ready to go at a moment’s notice, because the Senate calendar is counting down, and Democrats need every vote—if they can even get things to the floor. Also, California already has one appointed Senator (quick—can you name him?), and going into the 2024 it would be best to have another appointed Senator with time to build up political capital. The longer Feinstein waits to leave the scene, the more vulnerable the seat becomes, even in deep blue California.

The IRS may have the ability to automate nearly half of tax returns, according to a working paper from the National Bureau of Economic Research.
The agency could correctly auto-fill an estimated 62 million to 73 million returns with information it already has, covering 41% to 48% of taxpayers, researchers from the U.S. Department of the Treasury, the Minneapolis Federal Reserve and Dartmouth College found.
“Our results suggest that pre-populated returns would be accurate for a substantial share of U.S. taxpayers,” the authors wrote.

The emergency request includes $1.2 billion for the Department of Health and Human Services with a nod to the Department of Homeland Security’s Uniting for Ukraine program. This portion of the funding request includes robust and increased blanket immigration provisions for Ukrainians, Afghans, and Russians in the science, technology, engineering, and math—or STEM—fields.
One of the most curious categories mentioned is the Russian STEM professionals. With the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, it is surprising that the administration believes it will “benefit” U.S. national security interests to peel back employer-sponsor requirements and expedite an unlimited number of applications from this foreign adversary.
Normally, these Russian nationals would be subject to visa caps that would limit the number allowed to enter the U.S. each year. This certainly seems like the Biden administration’s latest radical, opportunistic attempt to get around those caps one country at a time. And to start with Russia is just national security incompetence.

Feeding Our Future and a related nonprofit, Partners in Nutrition (d/b/a Partners in Quality Care), were both founded in Minnesota in 2016 to help local organizations gain access to two lucrative federal free-food programs, the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) and the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP). Both were created to supplement the better-known federal school lunch program by filling the gaps during those hours (and months) that school is out of session. In Minnesota, the programs are overseen by the state Department of Education (MDE). It was the department, suspecting fraud in the programs, that alerted the FBI who then started the year-long investigation.
The lead nonprofits, known as sponsors, were just middlemen. For a 10 percent fee, they stitched together networks of hundreds of sites, dozens of subsidiary nonprofits, and private food vendors to distribute meals to hungry children. Many of these sites are believed to be completely legitimate, while others have been placed under suspicion. It is the private food vendors who are believed by the FBI to be the culprits in the fraud, taking tens of millions of dollars from the program, without feeding children.

Did you know that in some states, if you miss one tax payment, local politicians will take your home, sell it and keep all the profits?
Really.
Tawanda Hall was behind on her taxes. She was on a payment plan but had missed $900. She didn’t expect Southfield, Michigan, to take her entire house because of that. It was worth $286,000 more than what she owed.
“I’m still in shock,” says Tawanda Hall in my new video. “They took my whole house, my whole family’s livelihood.”
John Bursch, a lawyer for the county, says while this practice may sound unfair (yes, it sure does), “It’s also unfair to force those who pay their taxes to subsidize those who don’t.”
“I pay taxes!” Hall responds. She works as a nursing assistant. “I lift people. I bathe people. I work hard.”
When Hall found out she was going to lose her home, she tried to pay off the debt.
“I went to the mayor’s office, I went down to the city county building,” she says. “They didn’t want our money. They said no.”
They wanted her house.
Southfield is a suburb of Detroit; it’s mayor is a Democrat (and presumably the rest of the city government is likewise).

If the information that we receive is going to be “curated” by the federal government, we should pay attention to the views of the curator. With that in mind, I expended ten bucks for the Kindle version of Nina Jankowicz’s book How to Lose the Information War. It’s easy to see why Biden minions wanted its author on their information control team. For the past several years, she has engaged in research on Russian disinformation campaigns. Her book includes chapters on the responses of the United States, Estonia, Georgia, Poland, Ukraine and the Czech Republic, responses that she judges to have been sadly inadequate. So she brings a plausible aura of expertise to her new post as executive director of the Department of Homeland Security’s Disinformation Governance Board (a name that could have been coined only by some bureaucrat who privately loathes it).

The Biden administration is so bad that it is tempting, from day to day, to think that it can’t possibly get worse. The establishment of the Disinformation Governance Board and the appointment of Nina Jankowicz to run it are evidence that, however bad things seem, they can indeed get worse. And probably will.

To commemorate Earth Day, Memphis television meteorologist John Bryant decided to try riding the bus to work. Normally, his home-to-work journey takes about 15 to 20 minutes. His effort to protect the environment ended up taking 2-1/2 hours. Part of the problem was his unfamiliarity with the bus system, but the fastest he might have been able to make it was at least 90 minutes, partly because he had to walk a half mile from his home to the nearest bus stop and another mile to work from the nearest bus stop to his office. The few other passengers riding the bus with him were mostly too poor to own an automobile.
Public transport takes you from where you aren’t to where you don’t want to be, and takes three times as long to do so. Public transport was beneficial when the alternative was walking or riding a horse, but that’s no longer the case. Public transport was also beneficial when people worked in a dense urban core but lived farther out, but that’s no longer the case either.

Following reports he shirked congressional duties to keep his second job as a pilot, the one-term congressman is leaving Congress to run for governor of his state. Kahele spent almost no time in Washington, D.C., this year, voting by proxy more than 120 times and in person just 5 times. His absence prompted ethics questions about whether he was cashing in on his commercial pilot’s job at Hawaiian Airlines—a speculation that his spokesman later confirmed.
Kahele spokesman Michael Ahn told Politico the congressman was making “occasional flights to maintain his certification” but denied accusations that the flights violated House ethics rules. The congressman’s pilot’s salary earned him almost $120,000 in 2020, Civil Beat reported.
I have no problem with a governor who skips his day job to spend his time flying aircraft rather than wasting the taxpayers’ money on bullshit socialist schemes. Short of having a None Of The Above slot on the ballot, it’s a win-win.
