All were convicted of witness tampering related to the cover-up of the beating, but Bean and Smith were acquitted of civil rights charges. Haley was acquitted of violating Nichols’ civil rights causing death, but convicted of the lesser charge of violating his civil rights causing bodily injury. He was also convicted of a conspiracy to witness tamper charge that the others were acquitted of.
Since all three officers are black, we were not subjected to the riotous cries of RACISM! that would otherwise attend such an affair.
But I’m sure there’s some band of proglodytes somewhere who are this very minute taking to social media to explain that, yes, black police officers can be and sometimes are racist, ‘racist’ in this context meaning ‘anti-black’.

Tidal action on the underside of the Thwaites Glacier in the Antarctic will “inexorably” accelerate melting this century, according to new research by British and American scientists. The researchers warn the faster melting could destabilize the entire West Antarctic Ice sheet, leading to its eventual collapse.
Which scientists? Who cares! Just, you know, scientists!
The massive glacier—which is roughly the size of Florida—is of particular interest to scientists because of the rapid speed at which it is changing and the impact its loss would have on sea levels (the reason for its “Doomsday” moniker). It also acts as an anchor holding back the West Antarctic ice sheet.
More than 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) thick in places, Thwaites has been likened to a cork in a bottle. Were it to collapse, sea levels would rise by 65 centimeters (26 inches). That’s already a significant amount, given oceans are currently rising 4.6 millimeters a year. But if it led to the eventual loss of the entire ice sheet, sea levels would rise 3.3 meters.
Yah, sure. Call me when real estate prices in Malibu, Martha’s Vineyard, and Miami Beach start going down.

The NBC-Telemundo poll showing Vice President Kamala Harris with a historically low level of support among Hispanics has begun to trigger some of the usual reactions at MSNBC, including the tired “adjacent to whiteness” trope.
WashPost Associate Editor and MSNBC host Jonathan Capehart opened his The Sunday Show segment on the poll by barely being able to put together the words necessary to describe Harris’s 14-point lead among Hispanics in relation to past Democrat nominees.

It’s a long story. First of all, you’ll find liberals insisting that these Haitians are not illegal immigrants. Research further, however, and you learn that most of them entered the country illegally, crossing the U.S.-Mexico border after making their way through Central America. After Haiti descended into its latest crisis, the Biden administration granted Temporary Protected Status (TPS) to all Haitians in the U.S., so you may say that they have been retroactively (but temporarily) “legalized.”
Now let’s talk about Springfield, which is a “blue” island of liberalism in a sea of Republican “red.” Ohio was once a battleground state, closely contested in every presidential election, and then Trump came along and the Buckeye State has now become a GOP stronghold. Springfield was a city of 58,662 residents before the Haitian influx, and the city sits in Clark County (population 136,000) which voted 61% for Trump in 2020.
You see that, if the Democrats can turn these Haitians into voters, they can make Clark County “blue,” and a similar calculus is being applied nationwide by the Biden administration’s immigration policy. Democrats insist that the “Great Replacement” is a right-wing conspiracy theory, but we can see them doing it — blatantly, deliberately, in front of our eyes — in places like Springfield. And this brings us to the late Warren Copeland.

Books have been written, movies made and college courses taught about white privilege. Denouncing the evils of whiteness indiscriminately allows people of all races, even white people like Robin DiAngelo and Tracie McMillan, to earn a very good living from hunting for white privilege.
Less discussed is ‘whiteless privilege’. Even when one of the biggest beneficiaries of whiteless privilege, Vice President Kamala Harris, has made that her identity. What race is Kamala? Kamala is at once black and Indian, and none of the above because what matters most is not what race she is, but what race she is not. By not being white, she is a person of color and thus whiteless.
Kamala has white ancestry by way of her father, but in a world where men can be women and women can be androgynous and can then march in pride parades as Androgynes for Gaza while wearing half-burkas, what you are matters much less than what you identify as and what you don’t identify as.

Kamala’s one regret was that at the signing of her bill, the Emmett Till Antilynching Act, one man couldn’t be there to share the spotlight with her, a man who had gone above and beyond the call of Wokeness to raise awareness of Kamala’s ETAA: her good friend Jussie Smollett.
Sure, TV star Jussie Smollett’s passion for helping pass his pal Kamala Harris’s “Emmett Till Antilynching Act” led him to self-lynch himself during a downtown Chicago polar vortex and blame it on white men shouting “This is MAGA Country!”
But that was an anti-WHITE hate crime, so it was OK.

About three decades ago, California political legend Willie Brown introduced Donald Trump to his latest mistress, Kamala Harris, when Trump gave Willie and his entourage a lift on his jet so he could ask advice from the expert himself on how to get around California’s notorious regulators on a hotel deal he was pondering. It appears that Trump made the not-unreasonable snap judgment that Willie’s nice-looking young beige woman of indeterminate ethnicity with the Hindu first name must be a South Asian.
Years later, when Trump would see headlines celebrating Kamala as the “first black woman” this or that, he didn’t wonder what the full story must be and how he’d gotten it not quite right. (Kamala’s racial ancestry is half Tamil Brahmin on her Indian mother’s side, while on her middle-class mulatto Jamaican father’s side she is roughly one-quarter white and one-quarter black. Her Stanford professor father is the kind of person who is referred to as “black” in America and “white” in Jamaica.)
…
Obviously, Trump was wrong: Kamala has always identified as both Asian Indian and black. For instance, she used her claim to blackness to get into Hastings law school via affirmative action.
Of course, Trump’s bumptious accusation was greeted with shrieks of “racism” from part-black women journalists like Nikole Hannah-Jones, the daughter of a white woman, who owe their jobs to DEI favoritism distributed based on the One Drop Rule under which their claims to the professional privileges of blackness are considered as indisputable as, say, Michelle Obama’s.

Maybe it’s time for America to reconsider the ugly trend of bringing the ghetto into politics and the courtroom? The list of leftist politicians and judges in trouble for corruption and belligerent low-class behavior is growing long. It’s painful for many Americans to think about how this reflects on the country overall. If anyone was unsure about our status as an idiocracy, we certainly look like one now.
Case in point, one of Georgia’s highest paid (and most infamous) Democrat judges, Christina Peterson, has recently been arrested for assault on a police officer outside a nightclub in Atlanta. Peterson has subsequently been dismissed from the bench, but not just for allegedly striking an officer during the arrest of another woman. She was also investigated and disciplined for dozens of professional violations. Seeing her personal conduct when interacting with police, one wonders how it was possible for such a woman to be in the position to become a judge.

Oakland, California Mayor Sheng Thao is well known for her woke activist policies; policies that have led to a severe spike in property crime (17%) and violent crime (21%) within the first year of her administration. The problem has become so overwhelming that Thao and Alameda District Attorney Pamela Price are both facing potential recall. One has to wonder if leftist politicians are so lax on criminal prosecution because they are engaging in the same kind of activities?
An FBI raid on Sheng Thao’s residence last week may help to answer this question. Though she has not yet been arrested or charged, accusations indicate a corrupt web of illegal campaign finance and “pay to play” favors for special donors. The investigation is allegedly focused on Thao’s boyfriend, Andre Jones, as well as specific donors.

The chief content of this myth is that people often cannot process or work through adverse events and traumas—abuses, breakups, firings, humiliations—and sometimes even repress the memories because they are too painful for the psyche to assimilate. But repressed or poorly processed traumas do not simply subside; they fester, and they spread, causing further psychological pain and maladaptive behaviors. Time alone, it seems, does not heal psychic wounds. But if the sufferer works through the trauma, potentially recovering repressed or degraded memories, she can understand and perhaps even eradicate the sources of her misery. Thus, the talking cure is indispensable, and a stoic embrace of silent suffering, once lauded, is not only a species of misguided masculinism, but is inimical to mental health.
The psychotherapy myth is often coupled with, though sometimes contradicted by, another pervasive myth, the brain-chemical imbalance myth. According to this myth, depression is not caused by repressed trauma, at least that is not the essence of depression, but rather by a chemical imbalance (perhaps especially by an imbalance of serotonin). The talking cure might work, but only if it restores chemical equilibrium; and often therapy is not enough. Antidepressants are needed. These alleviate despair, lethargy, and the other myriad symptoms of depression by increasing available serotonin and other relevant neurotransmitters (depicted memorably in a Zoloft commercial).

Pamela Price, the Oakland area’s district attorney once backed by billionaire George Soros, allegedly called “the media and the Asians” her enemy and “fostered and encouraged a racist environment” in her office, according to a lawsuit from her former spokeswoman. She also hid and altered public records she didn’t want released, the suit alleges.
The complaint alleges that Price racially discriminated against Patricia Lee, who is Asian American, and fired her for refusing to withhold public records from journalists. Lee’s lawsuit also claims anti-Asian discrimination factored into her firing, and details how Price tried to suppress and delete documents and emails requested by reporters.
The “reason for Ms. Lee’s termination is because she engaged in a protected activity by refusing to illegally withhold records and by complaining about the Alameda County district attorney’s office’s illegal withholding of records in violation of [California public records law],” the complaint states.

A California Bay Area committee appointed to design racism reparations for black residents wants two years and $5 million just to write a plan.
The reparations panel for Alameda County, whose largest city is Oakland, made this demand late last month, San Francisco’s NPR affiliate reported, ahead of its looming July deadline to outline how local taxpayers should make their amends. The committee, created in March 2023 with a $51,000 budget, did not meet until last November.

Unlike in other federal investigations of city police, no single incident kicked off the Biden administration review, which covered the years between 2019 and 2022. But Phoenix had the highest number of fatal police shootings in the country in 2018, resulting in 23 deaths, and critics cite a history of mistreatment of minorities and disabled and homeless people.
The Justice Department said it wants to work with Phoenix to put reforms in place, even though city officials have indicated they do not want the federal involvement. That could potentially provoke a fraught confrontation between the Biden administration and the largest city in a pivotal swing state. Last month, former President Donald J. Pundits love to talk about what is happening to black Americans and what they purportedly think about it. The bottom line of the mainstream analysis—especially on the Left, but also on much of the mainstream Right as well—is that things are really, really bad for African Americans, and they are unhappy about it and seeking large-scale change in American society to better address the problems they face.
Most of that punditry proceeds in the absence of actual evidence about the beliefs of black Americans. This is both because much of what exists in the public political discussion is intellectually lazy and unconcerned about minor affairs like backing up arguments with facts, but also because the facts do not well support the desired, predetermined position.
Pew recently published data on the attitudes of black Americans, and there are some intriguing results to be found there. Of course, Pew passes quickly over much of the most interesting and useful information in their own results, owing to the druthers of that organization.

The left-wing dark money giant Tides Foundation raised more than $33 million on behalf of the national Black Lives Matter group during the George Floyd riots in 2020. Now, Black Lives Matter is suing Tides over its refusal to hand the funds back. There’s just one problem—nearly $9 million of those funds have seemingly disappeared.
From 2020 through 2022, Tides transferred $8.7 million from the fund to Black Lives Matter Grassroots, an offshoot of the national Black Lives Matter group led by Melina Abdullah, a longtime activist and professor. But Black Lives Matter Grassroots reported to the IRS that it never received that money, and no one involved in the transactions will say what became of the funds. These discrepancies have left charity watchdogs mystified, while legal experts say they could lead to massive fines and penalties.
This story is based on interviews with Black Lives Matter activists and internal documents obtained by the Washington Free Beacon. Together, they expose how the movement’s mismanagement of its 2020 windfall was aided and abetted by a left-wing dark money machine, and went far beyond the purchase of swanky mansions and massive distributions to associates of its co-founder, Patrisse Cullors.

Within this feud, Lamar’s diss tracks have leveled two core accusations against Drake. First, Lamar references allegations that Drake may prey upon underaged girls — for example, the 2018 revelation that Drake (then 32) had initiated a close texting relationship with actress Millie Bobby Brown (then 14). Kendrick’s rap calls Drake a “pervert” and “pedophile” who “should be placed on neighborhood watch.”
Despite the seriousness of this sexual allegation, a great deal of public reaction to the feud has focused on Lamar’s second key accusation: that Drake — biracial, Canadian, Jewish, and a former teen soap opera actor who grew up middle-class — is inauthentic as a representation of rap’s essential African-American culture. Lamar’s lyrics thus highlight American society’s ongoing debates about how to define and redress cases of cultural appropriation, caricature and exploitation.

Aimed at boosting the representation of women and minorities, in part by developing DEI criteria for staff performance reviews, the plan pledged to “make equity central” to the university “while ensuring the highest standards of excellence.”
But according to a 71-page complaint filed with the university on Saturday, at least two of the six DEI officials may not be living up to those standards. The complaint alleges that Tracie Jones-Barrett and Alana Anderson are serial plagiarists, copying entire pages of text without attribution and riding roughshod over MIT’s academic integrity policies.
In her 2023 dissertation titled “Cite a Sista,” which explored how black women in the Ivy League “make meaning of thriving,” Jones-Barrett, MIT’s deputy “equity officer,” lifts a whole section on “ethical considerations” from Emmitt Wyche III, her classmate in Northeastern University’s Graduate School of Education, without any sort of citation.
