The Other McCain is on the case.

Say hello to Frank Abrokwa, 37, who has been arrested in New York City more than 20 times since 1999 and those of my readers who are good at math will immediately realize that this means this perpetrator has been perpetrating at least one crime a year since he was 14. Other of my readers may be wondering, “What kind of name is Abrokwa?”
The answer is Ghanaian. There is apparently a shortage of career criminals in New York, so they’re importing them, and turning them loose to terrorize the citizenry. But I don’t feel sorry for the citizens of New York, because they voted for these policies.

The Frankfurt School of social theory began about a century ago, in the Weimar Republic. It consisted in the main of a group of rather anti-capitalist, Marxist-light gentlemen who embraced oikophobia (the hatred or dislike of one’s own cultural home), and who were understandably disillusioned by the carnage of World War I. Our interest today is mainly historical; of its earlier members, such as Ernst Bloch, Walter Benjamin, Max Horkheimer, Herbert Marcuse, and Theodor Adorno, really only Adorno is still read with a measure of seriousness outside of academia.
The Frankfurt School popularized historicism—the belief that reflection itself is a part of history, which is to say that earlier thoughts are historically conditioned by the circumstances in which the thinkers lived, and should be seen in that light; and that what passes for “knowledge” is marred by the historical time and place in which that knowledge appeared. (This idea was present already in the second part of The Communist Manifesto.) The insights that a more positivist outlook claims to be certain, based on sensory data, historicism will consider uncertain and necessarily bound by subjective value judgments. A part of this view is the concern—and the French postmodernists will pick up this point—to identify, isolate, and thereby exorcise every sort of domination that any group might have held over any other group.
One wonders how these folks would react to REAL oppression.

Sealioning … is a type of trolling or harassment that consists of pursuing people with persistent requests for evidence or repeated questions, while maintaining a pretense of civility and sincerity. It may take the form of “incessant, bad-faith invitations to engage in debate”. The term originated with a 2014 strip of the webcomic Wondermark by David Malki.
Wondermark is highly recommended. There’s a link to it in my CARTOONS list over there to the right.
The sealioner feigns ignorance and politeness, so that if the target is provoked into making an angry response, the sealioner can then act as the aggrieved party. Sealioning can be performed by a single person or by a group acting in concert. The technique of sealioning has been compared to the Gish gallop and metaphorically described as a denial-of-service attack targeted at human beings.

For the last half-century or more, Democrats have jealously guarded and taken advantage of their Great Society political coalition, trading in the white working class that was once its primary base of support in favor of those who felt—or could be made to feel—as if they are marginalized racially. Even before the advent of the social media-fueled woke world, Democrats saw advantage in heightening racial strife and grievance. But, over the last decade and a half, the Left’s toxic racial politics swallowed American life whole.
With America’s most important cultural power centers now fully digested by woke racialism, the act of making otherwise normal observations about life and reality itself is greeted with hysteria and demands of stake-burning. The ever-present catch-all villains from the last century, Nazis and Fascists, are conjured ubiquitously. Their invocation has at this point no real connection to historical reality—as Orwell already observed in 1946, words like “Fascist” quickly become mere stand-ins for “bad” and “evil,” or, in our day, “racist,” and “hateful.” Because everyone occasionally needs a rhetorical change of scenery, the Left has recently sprinkled in a few other calorie-free buzzwords, such “anti-democratic” and “authoritarian.”

Almost six decades later, from Massachusetts to Colorado, Jim Crow is being resurrected in public schools — this time through euphemisms such as “affinity circles”, “affinity dialogue groups” and “community building groups”. Centennial Elementary School in Denver, for instance, advertised a “Families of Color Playground Night” earlier this winter, on a marquee board outside the school. Last week, the Wheeler School in Providence, Rhode Island, hosted a “meet and talk” with actress Karyn Parsons from “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” — exclusively for its “Students of Color affinity group”. “If you are a student of color or multiracial, please join us!” the invitation from a seventh grade teacher read.

San Franciso Chronicle.
A Woodside official said the city cannot comply with a new state law that expedites construction of two-unit housing in areas zoned for single family homes because of its mountain lion population.
On January 27, Woodside Planning Director Jackie Young released a memo explaining why the town cannot do its part to ease a chronic housing shortage. Young said no permits for accessory dwelling units (known as SB 9 Projects) would receive building permits so long as the mountain lion is a candidate for the endangered species list in the Central Coast habitat which includes Woodside.
A petition to list the mountain lion as threatened or endangered is under review by the California Fish and Game Commission. According to state law a species listed as a candidate is due the same protection as a species that has been declared threatened.
In California, the left hand doesn’t know what the other left hand is doing.
