Researchers of group differences have pointed out until they are blue in the face that believing in equal rights is not contingent on believing all people are born with the same abilities and that merely by discussing the causes of group differences in mean IQ they are not intending to question the moral basis for sexual or racial equality. You can believe that there are between-group IQ differences – you can even believe that these differences are 80% heritable – and still remain committed to equal rights….
But anti-hereditarians seem to have extraordinary difficulty grasping this point – it is as if they want their opponents to be making this false inference even though, by imagining this sin, they are unconsciously committing it themselves. If you argue that any research into group differences is ‘dangerous’ because it threatens to undermine the basis for equal rights, you are implicitly accepting the twisted logic of the racist’s argument, namely, that if people aren’t equal in their capabilities, then we would be justified in denying some groups their civil rights. It is this inference that is racist, not any claim about group differences, whether true or not, and it is not one that most intelligence researchers are guilty of. No doubt some hereditarians are racists, but then the beliefs of some cultural determinists are pretty toxic too, such as Joseph Stalin, Chairman Mao and Pol Pot.
These are points that cannot be too often repeated, and are areas in which proglodytes are subject to massive cognitive dissonance.

That won’t work in Megan Markle’s case because her father is not a gentleman, even by stretching the rules out beyond the orbit of the Moon. So the arms were give to her instead.

Obama’s National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), responsible for overseeing union elections and enforcing labor laws, changed rules governing the process of unionizing the workforce. The changes expedited the election process, cutting down the time business management is notified about an election to when voting begins, from 38 days to 23.
Obama’s “ambush ruling” has appeared to prop up the union success rate in winning elections. Overall, unions are back to winning about 69 percent of elections, which is on par for unions’ historic win rate. Unions usually win elections because they put off petitioning for a vote until they are reasonably sure they can win.

Scott Johnson at Power Line talks Trump.
I am not comfortable with the frequent effusions of “weird and outrageous things” (I’m quoting Victor Davis Hanson) that President Trump says. His words go well outside the box of conventional presidential behavior. It is a quality that probably eased his transition from business to politics. For more on the implicit question of character, I yield to Charles Kesler’s invaluable essay “Thinking about Trump.” For a man who seems habitually untruthful, one of his striking accomplishments in year two is the fulfillment of campaign promises.
THAT’S THE POINT. Those who talk about Trump as ‘habitually untruthful’ not only hold him to a standard that they do not use (at least in the same conversation) for other politicians, but do not allow that Trump’s exaggeration and hyperbole are deliberate tools in his Persuasion Toolbox, to reference Scott Adams.
Nobody can point to a single instance where Trump has lied on a matter of substance in his capacity as President. (Oh, the talking heads on TV make claims, but if you look behind those claims it’s all hot air.)
Nobody makes as much fuss over Chuck Schumer’s lies, or Nancy Pelosi’s lies, or Maxine Waters’ lies, or John McCain’s lies, or Barack Obama’s lies (if you like your plan, you can keep your plan), or any of the carpet of lies that professional politicians lay down on their way to their offices every day.

The requirement for receiving a coat of arms is that one be a gentleman. Whatever one can say about Markle’s father, there is no pretense that he is (or ever could be) a gentleman. The modern criteria are along the lines of ‘university graduate’ or ‘professional’ (such as the Middletons); Markle is working-class or lower-middle class at best, and his actions prior to the wedding suggest that he’s a fairly dodgy character.

Victor Davis Hanson is delightfully dyspeptic today.
One strange trait of the die hard NeverTrump Republicans and progressives is their charge that Donald Trump poses an existential threat to democracy. Trump, as is his wont, says a lot of outrageous and weird things. But it is hard in his 16 months of rule to find any proof that Trump has subverted the rule of law.
Most of the furor is over what we are told what Trump might do, or what Trump has said, or which unsavory character in Europe likes Trump. These could be legitimate worries if they were followed by Trump’s anti-democratic concrete subversions. But so far, we have not seen them. And there has certainly been nothing yet in this administration comparable to the Obama-era efforts to curb civil liberties.

Steve Sailer pulls back the curtain.
Immigration is so often sold in the Anglosphere like this: as a way to revitalize depopulating small towns. Yet, immigrants themselves overwhelmingly prefer to flock to the big, expensive cities of Australia, Canada, and the U.S., exacerbating the affordable housing crisis.
For example, when there was a huge energy boom in North Dakota a few years ago, the new arrivals were predominantly Americans. Immigrants don’t want to move to Hicksville, USA, and if they have to, it’s only until they can move to the big city.
Filipinos in the US, for instance, have been flocking to the bright lights of Las Vegas, contributing to the 2008 Housing Bubble/Burst there. Filipinos don’t want to live in some rural Nowheresville, they want to live close to the MGM Grand Arena where Senator Manny Pacquiao fights Floyd Mayweather.

According to the SF Chronicle, Cupertino is looking to pass a similar proposal as the one in Mountain View, California, which would rake in roughly $5.4M from giants such as Google. Cupertino is currently polling residents about the new tax proposal and how money from it should be spent.
Apple did not immediately return a request for comment. The company has more than 25,000 employees in the Bay Area. Specific numbers for Cupertino — where it is by far the largest employer — were unavailable.
Cupertino isn’t the only city exploring this, however. Seattle, Amazon’s hometown was looking at a similar proposal that would charge $275 per employee for businesses that make at least $20M a year, just last week.
Google’s hometown Mountain View is planning similar moves as it wants to raise its head-count tax to $10M, where Google will only pay half, if the city could use the revenue towards transportation and housing.
No politician anywhere is capable of seeing a pile of money and resisting dipping both hands into it. You would think that the enormous property taxes that Apple is undoubtedly paying, and they business that they bring to the community, would be enough. But NOOOOOOO….
