Steven Hayward returns with us now to those thrilling days of yesteryear.
he biggest albatross of environmentalism is its well-deserved reputation for apocalypticism: the world is always going to come to and end because of. . . plastic bags! Bee colony collapse disorder! Endocrine disruptors! Velociraptors! And of course the big one: c—— c—– (formerly known as g—– w——). This apocalyptic outlook always comes with the same sort of moral unctuousness you associate with a fire-and-brimstone street preacher: repent of your fossil-fool ways!
Why, people often ask me, are environmentalists so gloomy about the human prospect? I have a simple answer: it makes them happy. Seriously: if you point out to environmentalists the data showing many environmental problems on the national and global scale are improving, they usually go into a rage. Good news is bad news.
A few of the smarter environmentalists know that decades of nonstop environmental gore (heh) has been counterproductive, as public opinion surveys show that “apocalypse fatigue” set in a long time ago. That’s one reason why recent surveys even of Democratic voters show climate change to be a very low priority. Most sensible people would rather spend an evening trapped with a life insurance salesman than spend five minutes with an environmentalist.
Despite all of the efforts of the smarter environmentalists to shed their Malthusianism, they just can’t help themselves. Like an AA dropout who succumbs when walking by a well-lit tavern, orthodox environmentalism repeatedly stumbles and goes on a bender. For example, consider Paul Ehrlich apparently getting ready to imitate the Rolling Stones with a 50th anniversary tour of his famous book….

The problem with democracy is that by its very nature the “inventors” tend to be philistines (for example, that grotesque trio: Zuckerberg, Gates, and Bezos), money-grubbers, and cowards, happy to truckle to the diversity rabble and other low types, since there is such a good living and so much social distinction in that. As with the preservation of high culture, it takes a truly elitist social order and an aristocratic tradition to produce statesmen such as those Great Dead White Men, America’s Founding Fathers.

Note that you never see articles about Midwestern sociologists who spend years asking urban Americans why they’re such assholes.
Robert Wuthnow, a sociologist at Princeton University, spent eight years interviewing Americans in small towns across the country. He had one goal: to understand why rural America is so angry with Washington.
God knows there’s no obvious reason, right?
Wuthnow’s work resulted in a new book, The Left Behind: Decline and Rage in Rural America. He argues that rural Americans are less concerned about economic issues and more concerned about Washington threatening the social fabric of small towns and causing a “moral decline” in the country as a whole. The problem, though, is that it’s never quite clear what that means or how Washington is responsible for it.
Certainly it is — if you’re willing to look at the evidence. The problem is the government, the Federal government in particular. Government is run by urban degenerates, and the laws and regulations they impose on everybody else is what’s pulling the whole country down.
C’mon, Sean, be a journalist for once.

You aren’t what you eat, exactly. But over many generations, what we eat does shape our evolutionary path. “Diet,” says anthropologist John Hawks, of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, “has been a fundamental story throughout our evolutionary history. Over the last million years there have been changes in human anatomy, teeth and the skull, that we think are probably related to changes in diet.”

Steve Sailer keeps finding Reality intruding on the media.
Here’s a brand new academic paper that makes the same point I immediately made back in 2013 when the New York Times first trumpeted Raj Chetty’s map of where there is high upward mobility of income: it didn’t look like a map of respectable regional attributes, such as a lack of Sprawl. Instead, it looked like a Map of Where the Blacks Aren’t.

The New York Times seems to have a habit of scrounging up conspiracy theorists in order to tell us the many ways in which The Sky Is Falling. And the overlap between these Chicken Littles and Nanny Staters In Training is huge.
They start off with The Enemy, speaking about the sugar industry in terms more suitable to Jimmy Swaggart denouncing the Devil or Jeff Sessions talking about a Mexican Drug cartel:
The sugar industry and its various offshoots, like the soda industry, have spent years trying to trick you.
Big Sugar has paid researchers to conduct misleading — if not false — studies about the health effects of added sweeteners. It has come up with a dizzying array of euphemistic names for those sweeteners. And it has managed to get sugars into a remarkable three-quarters of all packaged foods in American supermarkets.
How dare they try to make their product attractive! It’s a plot, I tell you! This sounds in the standard proglodyte meme that the Common People are too stupid to be able to make their own choices in life, and so must have Cloud People run their lives.
Most of us, as a result, eat a lot of sugar. We are surrounded by it, and it’s delicious. Unfortunately, sugar also encourages overeating and causes health problems. As confusing as the research on diet can often seem, it consistently points to the harms of sugar, including obesity, diabetes and other diseases.
Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from sucrose. Big Sugar, like a roaring lion, roams the world seeking someone to add pounds to. Resist it, steadfast in the faith.
Virtually the only way to eat a healthy amount of sugar is to make a conscious effort. You can think of it as a political act: resisting the sugar industry’s attempts to profit off your body. Or you can simply think of it as taking care of yourself.
They’d prefer that you think of it as ‘a political act’, of course. Everything is political these days, or ought to be, at least to people who write in the New York Times.
What would these people do if they didn’t spend their days sticking their noses into other people’s business? They’d have to face the fact that everything they do is stuff that the world could get on perfectly well without. Natural Selection can’t be depended on to weed out the Dirt People, so we have to help it along. I keep expecting one of these op-ed pieces to advocate the establishment of re-education camps for everyone who walks out of Walmart with a six-pack of soda.

An Argentine man legally changed his gender so he could retire earlier, according to a Thursday report.
Sergio, 59, an Argentine tax official, legally changed the last letter of his name to Sergia, assuming the identity of a woman, so he could retire five years early, the Daily Nation reported. Argentine law allows women to retire at 60 while men have to wait until they are 65 years old. Their legislation also states a woman can retire at age 65 — the same as the age of a man — but they will receive a higher pension, according to the United States Social Security Administration’s website.
And now it starts.

Brazilian women want to be impregnated from the sperm of white American men, according to a report from the Wall Street Journal Thursday.
Wealthy Brazilian women and lesbian couples are requesting white male sperm from the U.S. so their kids will have more Caucasian features, the Wall Street Journal reported.
At least 50 percent of Brazil’s population is black or mixed-race, but women are selecting young sperm donors who will more likely produce children with blond hair and blue eyes. The number of American sperm donors to Brazil surged at least 3,000 percent in the past seven years. It is also illegal to pay men for their sperm in Brazil, which allows American donors more opportunity in the market.
White supremacy on the cheap. Women and minorities hardest hit, etc. etc. CNN might report on this, assuming that they can ever tear their attention from the Trump red dot.

Polygamy nearly always means rich men taking multiple wives. And if the top 10% of men marry four women each, then the bottom 30% cannot marry at all. This often leaves them not only sexually frustrated but also socially marginalised. In many traditional societies, a man is not considered an adult until he has found a wife and sired children. To get a wife, he must typically pay a “brideprice” to her father. When polygamy creates a shortage of brides, it massively inflates this brideprice. In South Sudan, it can be anything from 30 to 300 cattle, far more wealth than an ill-educated young man can plausibly accumulate by legal means.

A federal judge ruled last week that a federal agency’s actions to improve habitats for endangered species along the Missouri River exacerbated floods, causing damage to local farmers whose land was temporarily inundated. Although this was only the first part of a multiphase case, if the ruling is upheld it could undermine future river restoration efforts nationwide and stymie enforcement of the Endangered Species Act (ESA) by forcing the government to pay damages to any landowner affected by environmental restoration activities.
“The implications of this ruling are huge,” says Brad Walker, who headed river restoration efforts for the Missouri Coalition for the Environment in St. Louis before retiring earlier this month. “It’s attacking the heart of the legitimacy and reason for doing river restoration.” If the ruling is upheld in the next phase of the case, which is anything but certain, “it would effectively kill the application of the Endangered Species Act,” says John Echeverria, an environmental lawyer at the Vermont Law School in South Royalton.
At last, some concern for people rather than animals.

California’s high housing prices and rising gas prices are driving away what remains of the state’s low income citizens. Those migrating from the coastal state are making way for places like Las Vegas and Arizona, where housing prices are relatively cheap compared to California.
…
California saw a loss of over 138,000 people in that 12-month period, according to the data, while Texas experienced an uptick of more than 79,000 people. Arizona and Nevada, meanwhile, gained more than 63,000 and 38,000 residents, respectively. California’s extraordinarily high gas taxes is another reason for the mass exodus, CNBC’s report noted.

This is the final stage of the natural bias of proglodytes toward equality of condition. Proglodytes have given lip-service to ‘merit’ until now, but they are beginning to realize that ‘merit’ fundamentally means that sometimes Deplorables are going to win out over Fashionable Victim Groups, and this they cannot allow.
