The law in Texas didn’t exactly have an exception that said you could shoot somebody if he had it coming, but most jurors in Texas in the 1950s-1970s felt that some people just deserved some shooting.

I work with a woman whose husband got probation a few years back for taking a baseball bat to a guy he knew was molesting a 12 year old girl.
As you say, sometimes the old ways are best.
Always great to read about Racehorse Haynes, one of the most colorful characters ever to pass the bar. A lot of people were pretty pissed off back when T. Cullen Davis got off, but like the current Casey Anthony case proves, the courtroom does not always serve justice.
