ZMan’s weekly podcast. Highly recommended.
With Halloween approaching I thought about doing a special show on the subject, but then I remembered I did that last year. I then remembered that it was not just the greatest Halloween show ever, it was probably the best podcast ever produced in the history of podcasts. In retrospect, I should have retired after that show, but like all champions, I have lingered on too long.
Luckily, the news is providing more than enough content. We have the war, the midterms, the fatwah against Ye. Next week we will get to see a million blue checks on Twitter wail in unison over Elon Musk. It looks like he will start his reign of terror with mass firings, which will be a good time. This is the season of schadenfreude and the gods of that concept are going to be generous.
The one sour note will be seeing so many of our guys rush back to Twitter so they can once again perform for the enemy. Generations of conditioning have trained them to think they need the attention of lefty in order to live. They will abandon the various alternative platforms just so they can carry on like precocious children for their masters on the other side. It is the slave’s mentality.

Apparently October 28 is “National First Responders Day”.
Read it.
In addition to tragic occupational hazards and line-of-duty deaths, law enforcement officers and other first responders are regularly intentionally injured, attacked, and targeted during their day-to-day duties.
I think I’ll wait for National Second Responders Day (surely there is such a thing?), honoring those who have to clean up the mess caused when the explosive device timed to take out the first responders goes off.

Economic centralization is the ultimate form of organized conspiratorial power, because it allows a small group of people to dictate the terms of trade for a society and therefore dictate the terms of each person’s individual survival.
For example, the Federal Reserve as a banking entity has free rein to assert policy controls that can disrupt the very fabric of the US economy and the buying power of our currency. They can (and do) arbitrarily create trillions of dollars from thin air causing inflation, or arbitrarily raise interest rates and crash stock markets. And according to former Fed chairman Alan Greenspan, they answer to no one, including the US government.

On Thursday morning, the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis released the third-quarter gross domestic product (GDP) numbers which reportedly showed that the United States economy grew 2.6 percent in the third quarter. Predictably the three evening news networks hyped the supposedly good news for their friends in the Biden administration and ignored the real reason for the positive economic growth despite the two past quarters being negative. The 3rd quarter numbers were almost entirely due to U.S. trade exports, not due to the health of the economy at large.

The FLASH effect: FLASH radiotherapy is a promising alternative to traditional radiation therapy.
It delivers a dose of radiation that’s over 300 times higher than traditional radiation therapy in just a fraction of a second. This induces something called the “FLASH effect” — a not-entirely-understood phenomenon in which the radiation still attacks the tumor, but doesn’t harm surrounding tissue.

My single issue is this: the reinstatement of the draft. Over the next few years, I’ll have two draftable boys, and more after that. The prospect of committing us to yet another 20-year quagmire on some blasted foreign plain with miserable weather and inedible food is an irresistible bauble to our corrupt government; I fear they cannot resist the intoxicating scent of teenage blood.

Why didn’t anyone say school closures would be bad?
That’s the question some of our enlightened media experts are asking right now. Yes, really.
“I have to say I’m surprised that there hasn’t been a national conversation about the damage done to kids because of these school closures and the virtual learning and everything,” CNN host Jake Tapper said Friday.
Plenty of Americans quietly and not so quietly had their figurative hands up in class on this issue when the COVID-19 pandemic started. They not only were ignored by Tapper and his media cohorts, but in many cases were ridiculed and demonized.
Now Tapper is calling for a “bipartisan movement” to address the problem. The implication is that a national conversation in America really counts only if Democrats and the Left are conducting it, not those icky conservative types.
The reality is that deferring to public health officials, school administrators, and teachers unions over school closures took a perhaps incalculable toll on the education of young people in America. Dissenters were shoved aside and dismissed.
It’s clear that was a massive mistake that we are paying for now.
The plain fact is that there is a ‘ruling establishment’ in this country, call it what you will, and they absolutely don’t want ‘self-government’ in any meaningful sense.

ZMan discusses some inconvenient truth.
If you are over the age of fifty, you remember a time when you would have been corrected, if you said America was a democracy. Conservatives would interrupt you and say that America is a constitutional republic, not a democracy. Liberals would say that America is a fascist police state, not a democracy. That is a small exaggeration, but the liberals were always going on about the lack of democracy. Both sides of the mainstream agreed that America was not a democracy.
Somewhere along the way, this reversed. Both sides of the increasingly narrow political consensus calls America a democracy. In fact, they compete with one another to be the most outraged by threats to our democracy. Proof that the universe has a sense of humor, our rulers would no doubt condemn all of their prior statements about America not being a democracy. This would never happen as no one would dare bring this up to them, but the point remains.

All in all, New York’s no-bail law is working great! The law is called “no bail” but really means “no jail, not ever, no matter how many times you’re arrested.”
How did such a dangerous policy become law? It seems that in 2020, Democrats finally gained total control of state government, the first time that’s happened since World War II, except for a single year in 1964.

The elevation of unrestricted abortion from a progressive policy preference to a primary dogma is one of the most astonishing developments in intellectual history. From Bill Clinton’s “safe, legal and rare”, “rare” has been dropped entirely, and “safe” is hardly a consideration. Abortions performed by non-medical personnel or by the unsupervised ingestion of abortifacient drugs are regarded as quite acceptable. The child’s death has a higher value than the mother’s health.
Even more strikingly, pro-abortion progressives denounce any public criticism of abortion as fiercely as any religious fanatic has ever excoriated blasphemy. Several posts back, I cited a couple of examples. A couple more showed up today.

A new Hoover Institution (Stanford University) report indicates that California continues to shed corporate headquarters locations to other states.
Hoover Institution Senior Fellow and UCLA distinguished professor of economics Lee Ohanian and Joseph Vranich of Spectrum Locations Services show that “In 2021, California business headquarters left the state at twice their rate in both 2020 and 2019, and at three times their rate in 2018. In the last three years, California lost eleven Fortune 1000 companies, whose exits negatively affect California’s economy today. But California also is risking its economic future as much smaller but rapidly growing unique businesses are leaving, taking their innovative ideas with them.”
Including companies outside the Fortune 1,000, Ohanian and Vranich indicate that California lost 153 corporate headquarters between in 2021. This is more than double the totals for each of the three years from 2018 to 2020.

White House chief of staff and serial Twitter user Ron Klain violated the Hatch Act, a federal law that forbids government employees from engaging in campaign-related activity, according to an Office of Special Counsel letter obtained by the Washington Free Beacon.
The violation occurred earlier this year when Klain retweeted the left-wing political action committee Strike PAC on May 22, the Office of Special Counsel said in its letter to the America First Legal. The tweet thanked President Joe Biden for delivering infant formula to the United States amid a national shortage, and linked to the commitee’s online store.
Such conduct is illegal. The Hatch Act forbids federal “employees from, among other things, using their official authority or influence for the purpose of interfering with or affecting the result of an election and knowingly soliciting, accepting, or receiving political contributions from any person.”

Just Stop Oil has continued its disruptive protest over the last few weeks, promising to escalate its action as long as the government grants licences for fossil fuel exploration. On 14 October, two protesters hurled soup at Van Gogh’s painting The Sunflowers in the National Gallery and glued their hands to the wall. Thankfully, the painting was protected by Perspex, but the frame itself was reportedly damaged. Elsewhere, protesters have been obstructing roads across the capital, graffitiing the Scotland Yard sign and the shopfront of an Aston Martin dealership, climbing onto the Dartford Crossing bridge, stopping traffic and covering the front of Harrods with paint. Other groups protested too, with Animal Extinction pouring milk on supermarket floors and End Private Jets pouring urine and faeces on a memorial to Sir Captain Tom Moore.

Matt Mikka explained he used a 400-cc gas generator in the back of his Tesla Model S.
“I really like my Tesla but what I don’t like is stopping to charge, especially on a road trip,” Mikka said. “I don’t even like stopping to fill up my gas-powered car, and that’s way faster than charging.”
In a video posted to his YouTube channel, Warped Perception, Mikka explained that he placed the generator where the Tesla’s rear window is.
While Mikka made the 1,800-mile trip without plugging in at an electric vehicle charging station, he had to stop to allow the Tesla to charge on the side of the road. Mikka also said he had to drive at slower speeds in order to have enough energy to keep the Tesla charged.
