Illinois Pushes New ‘Wealth Tax’ as High Earners Flee the State in Droves

28th May 2019

Read it.

Cash-strapped Illinois is one step closer to passing a new income tax with the potential to seriously accelerate the exodus of high-earning taxpayers from the most financially dysfunctional state in America.

Lawmakers in the Illinois House of Representatives on Monday approved a constitutional amendment aiming to get rid of the state’s flat income tax, clearing the way for the amendment to be included on the November 2020 ballot for ratification by the voters. Governor JB Pritzker is widely expected to sign it the amendment, which has already been passed by the State Senate.

Politicians seem to think that people will just sit still and stand for having their pockets picked. Chicago ain’t New Yawk, and it ain’t L.A.; people are going to leave. (Actually, I can’t think of any reason for a rich person to be in Illinois in the first place.)

Make School Hard Again

28th May 2019

Read it.

In a different era, obtaining a diploma from an Ivy League school required hard work and real educational attainment for almost any major. The kinds of students admitted through money or connections would often struggle to make it through—hence the so-called “gentleman’s C.” But the vast majority of those who completed a degree could take pride in their accomplishments and rest easy knowing they were well-prepared to succeed in life.

Not so anymore. Since the late 1960s, universities have increasingly suffered from grade inflation and an emphasis on ensuring that all admitted students graduate. At the same time, schools have become more liberal about accepting applicants based on unorthodox qualifications, from athletic ability to nonacademic accomplishments, disadvantageous backgrounds, and demonstrated social “awareness.”

28th May 2019

At last, we are on the verge of getting to the bottom of the weaponization of the nation’s top law enforcement and spy agencies to spy on political opponents, and it is far bigger than obtaining bogus FISA Court warrants to spy on Carter Page.  Barack Obama’s minions have been spying on his political opponents since before his 2012 re-election, and the entire Russiagate hoax was an effort to cover up that ongoing spying.

Refreshing and Disturbing: Anthony Peacock on Thucydides and The Federalist

28th May 2019

Read it.

Anthony Peacock’s effort to vindicate the commercial republic, as it is explained in The Federalist, is both refreshing and disturbing. By calling our attention to Publius’s case for a well-constructed Union, the spirit of enterprise, and the enormous extent to which The Federalist is about war and strategy, Peacock rediscovers an almost lost continent neglected by scholars who take the survival of the Union for granted, disdain commercial society, and are more concerned with controlling power than generating it. In that way, such scholars have not been true to the spirit of the work, for as James Madison explained in Federalist 51, in framing a government which is to be administered by men over men, the first task is to enable the government to control the governed; the next task is to oblige it to control itself.

Pretty pricey at $105, but maybe you could get it through InterLibrary Loan.

Bannon-Led Border Wall Group Unveils Mile-Long Segment On Private Property

A non-profit organization established to privately fund President Trump’s southern border wall has completed nearly a mile-long section on private land near El Paso, Texas.

We Build The Wall – a nonprofit founded by triple amputee veteran Brian Kolfage, boasts former White House Chief Strategist and former Breitbart executive Steve Bannon as its director, while former Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach is the effort’s general counsel.

According to Kolfage, the segment took just three days to complete.

Echo & The Cucky Men

28th May 2019

ZMan looks back in horror.

Politics is always a repeat of the past, to some degree, but what makes this age a weird echo is debates themselves. The biggest issues facing the West are never discussed, outside of dissident circles. Trump ran on immigration and trade, but no one talks about those anymore. The Democrats could be running on the student debt issue or the crisis facing the young people of the middle-class. Instead they are talking about socialism, as if it is this brand new idea that has never been tried.

Our political class is mostly cucks and kooks, unable and unwilling to muster anything resembling courage.

‘Robocrop’ Can Pick 25,000 Raspberries a Day

Appearing tentative, the world’s first raspberry-picking robot is harvesting a fruit. After assessing its age, the robot plucks the fruit with its “holding arm” and cautiously deposits it into a waiting basket. The entire process takes about one minute for a single berry. It has been joyfully nicknamed “Robocrop” by British journalists, an homage to Alex Murphy aka RoboCop.

“The Whites Are Our Misfortune”

28th May 2019

David Cole turns over a rock.

It occurred to me this week that anti-whiteness is the new anti-Semitism. Not that Jew hatred no longer exists. It does, of course. But the formula’s been tweaked.

Generally speaking, far-rightists in the U.S. who hate Jews hate them more for their politics than for their identity. Whites, on the other hand, are totally hated by leftists just for being white. Whites are now hated for the exact same reason Jews were hated in the past: They exist. The parallels between current anti-whiteness and old-timey Jew hatred are strong. Whites are born cursed (white privilege), and they walk the earth to torment the good and the decent. Everything bad that exists today, and everything bad throughout history, has been because of the white menace. Whites are “the source of the world’s ills” (that’s an exact quote from The Guardian, frighteningly similar to the motto on the masthead of Der Stürmer: “Die Juden sind unser Unglück!”—“The Jews are our misfortune!”).

Construction on the First-Ever Private Border Wall Begins

28th May 2019

Read it.

Construction began over Memorial Day weekend on a privately-funded border wall between the U.S. and Mexico, the first project of its kind.

We Build The Wall, a viral online campaign calling on everyday Americans to fund a U.S.-Mexico wall, broke ground over the weekend, the organizers revealed on Monday. About a mile of 18-foot steel bollard wall was built along the southern border between El, Paso Texas and Sunland Park, New Mexico.

The wall is similar to the design used by U.S. Border Patrol, but the organizers claim their wall can be built faster and cheaper. The project was led by construction mogul Tommy Fisher, CEO of Fisher Industries.

Where’s Joe?

28th May 2019

Read it.

The Washington Post reports that Joe Biden is running a presidential campaign of “limited exposure.” This Memorial Day weekend, when his rivals were scurrying from venue to venue pressing the flesh, Biden’s agenda stated “no public events scheduled.”

That’s typical of his campaign so far. According to the Post, since entering the race four weeks ago, Biden has held 11 public events. Beto O’Rourke held nearly four times that number in the same period. Elizabeth Warren and Cory Booker have held 27; Bernie Sanders 17. Kirsten Gillibrand planned 11 stops in Iowa just over the holiday weekend.

Post reporters Annie Linskey and Chelsea Janes point out that, with the exception of O’Rourke, all of these candidates have full-time jobs in the Senate. Biden is unemployed.

Samizdat in the Age of Digital Totalitarianism

28th May 2019

Read it.

A couple of days ago we posted about the blocking of BitChute in Australia via a process known as “DNS poisoning”. It seems that the emergence of BitChute as a source of uncensored videos was enough of a threat for the Powers That Be in Oz to decide that it must be neutralized.

During the same time period the process of de-platforming dissidents has accelerated. Almost anyone who is well-known and has a slightly right-of-center political opinion can expect to have Tweets and Facebook posts deleted, YouTube videos pulled, and — if he is prominent enough to require complete excommunication — the closing of his account. Dissidents with the greatest celebrity status, such as Tommy Robinson and Milo Yiannopoulos, can expect to lose their accounts on multiple platforms simultaneously, as if their suppression were being coordinated by some trans-national censorship board.

Democrats Are Pushing for the Third-World National Popular Vote

27th May 2019

Read it.

On May 21, the Nevada Senate approved the National Popular Vote (NPV) interstate compact. Approval was strictly party-line, with all Democrats in favor and all Republicans against. Colorado’s Democratic legislature approved NPV earlier this year.

Since 1864, every state has recognized the right of its people to choose their presidential electors. NPV would change that. Irrespective of how the people of an NPV state voted, its electors would be chosen by the “national popular vote winner.” And to qualify as the “national popular vote winner,” a presidential candidate would need only a plurality — not a majority — of ballots cast nationwide. There would be no run-off elections.

Asians as Beneficiaries of White Privilege

27th May 2019

Read it.

The success of Asian-Americans is a severe embarrassment to the race industry. Race hustlers focus on “gaps” between whites and blacks with regard to income and educational attainment, which they attribute to “systemic” racism. But what about the gaps between Asian-Americans and whites? Asians, on average, earn considerably more than whites and as a group they do better in school. Is their superior performance due to “systemic” racism directed against whites?

Apparently Asians are Honorary White People. That will come as news to a lot of actual white people.

On the other hand, I’d certainly rather live next door to Asians, East or South, than Politically Certified Brown people.

But that’s me.

Memorial Day

27th May 2019

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Activity Versus Prosperity

27th May 2019

ZMan nails it.

In America, social unrest is increasing, despite the increase in economic activity, because the white population senses a loss in their prosperity. Would the typical white person pay a little more for groceries if the stores were staffed with white people and the emergency room did not look like a Tijuana bus stop? From the perspective of economics, we would be poorer, but the quality of life would be much higher. It turns out that the true cost of cheap labor is the prosperity of the people.

The Books of College Libraries Are Turning Into Wallpaper

27th May 2019

Read it.

Little-noticed in this minor skirmish over the future of the library was a much bigger story about the changing relationship between college students and books. Buried in a slide deck about circulation statistics from Yale’s library was an unsettling fact: There has been a 64 percent decline in the number of books checked out by undergraduates from Bass Library over the past decade.

I guess ‘Bass Library’ is the sold-naming-rights incarnation of what we used to call Cross Campus Library. The major problem with that library was (and maybe still is) that it was impossible to ‘study’ there because of all of the people socializing. The only times I ever entered that library as an undergraduate was when forced to check out reading materials for a course, which had to be done there. The best place actually to study was one of the graduate student carrels in the stacks of Sterling Memorial, because they were all under window embrasures (so they had excellent light), they had a comfortable (but not too comfortable) chair and small table, and it was DEAD QUIET. The effect was that of being in a medieval monastic scriptorium.
