In Defense of Fahrenheit

Read it.

On a scale of 0 to 100, how warm is it? The Fahrenheit scale nearly perfectly captures the distribution of U.S. daily temperatures.

Chemists tend to like Celsius because it works well with reaction chemistry. For example, reaction rates tend to double with each rise of 10 degrees C.

Personally, I much prefer the smaller increments of Fahrenheit. You can feel a definite difference in temperature from 74F to 75F. Fractional degrees are just irritating.

Unlike other metric measurements, Celsius doesn’t provide any real advantage with other measurements.

One of the most entertaining features of the Whole Earth Catalog is the full page rant against the metric system and in favor of the ‘human factor’ systems of measurement — like the traditional English measures that the U.S. refuses to relinquish.
