Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, updated its admissions policy to open it to students not born as girls, “but identify or live as women” as long as there is legal proof that the man is transitioning over to become a woman or is legally a woman. Those identifying as neither male nor female, known as binary students, will also be eligible to apply, according to the college’s revised admissions policy.

In fact, the word “PETA” has become a pejorative for stunts, gimmicks, and putting feelings over facts when it comes to animal issues. I argue in my new book, The End of Animal Farming, that animal rights will succeed in building a food system where we eat meat, dairy, and eggs without the use of animals, but it’s a tragic irony that one of the biggest obstacles for activists might be the bad reputation of its best-known advocates.

The Antiplanner points out how people are getting a hernia tugging on their own bootstraps.
Finally, part of the problem is that the policies regional planners adopt to save their cities from becoming like other cities are usually the policies planners in those other regions adopted that made them what they are. Every county in the San Francisco Bay Area adopted urban-growth boundaries in the 1970s (except San Francisco County itself, which has no rural land). So, to keep from becoming like San Francisco, Seattle adopted an urban-growth boundary in the 1980s. For some reason, it didn’t work.

This is in Forbes, allegedly a business magazine but in reality these days just another Voice of the Crust.
Totally undiscussed in this article is (a) why ‘wealth inequality’ is a bad thing and (b) why increasing ‘wealth inequality’ is a bad thing.
The author has a great deal of expertise in accounting but no obvious expertise either in accounting or philosophy. He has strongly-held opinions, obviously, but apparently feels under no obligation to explain why we should give a shit.
I could start screaming CHUCK SCHUMER IS COVERED IN MOSQUITO BITES! and it wouldn’t tell you a damned thing about Chuck Schumer (other than the fact that he was maybe covered in mosquito bites). Unless I make the effort to connect the dots (no pun intended), it takes not one step on the road to justifying my obvious opinion that being covered with mosquito bites somehow implies a failing on the part of Chuck Schumer. Unless that effort is made, I may feel sorry for Chuck Schumer on account of all of his mosquito bites, but it doesn’t tell me anything negative about his character. Similarly, telling me that Jeff Bezos gets paid a squillion times what one of his package-stuffers is paid tells me nothing about Jeff Bezos except that he is highly compensated. It may make me envy Jeff Bezos but it doesn’t tell me a damned thing about his character. If you think that’s a bad thing, EXPLAIN WHY.

Recently, Sen. Mazie Hirono claimed that Democrats have a hard time connecting with voters because they (Democrats) are so “smart” and “know so much.” If Democrats are smart and knowledgeable, you can’t prove it by Hirono. She embarrasses herself routinely on the Senate Judiciary Committee, where she almost invariably finds herself in over her head.
The latest embarrassment is her attack, along with Sen. Kamala Harris, on a judicial nominee for belonging to the Knights of Columbus, a Catholic social and charitable organization founded in 1882 that, in the words of Ramesh Ponnuru, has heretofore been roughly as controversial as the Rotary Club.. Hirono and Harris are insisting that Brian Buescher, nominated for a U.S. district court judgeship, drop his membership in that organization and recuse himself from cases in which it has taken a position.

Mark Zuckerberg had created a company to appeal to college students who wanted to rate the cutest girls on campus, but is instead stuck with a monster worth hundreds of billions (that number will continue fluctuating with media hit pieces) used by people with actual jobs to share family photos and talk politics. And it’s the politics part, not the baby photos, that’s turning the heat up on Zuckerberg.
Despite the hundreds of billions of dollars, the marriage, the language lessons, the awkward tour of America, Zuckerberg is still on some level the drunken college kid who got in trouble setting up a site to rate his classmates. He doesn’t understand the stakes of the game. As Facebook aged, it became an unwanted gatekeeper for global politics, instead of for teens doing viral challenges.

ZMan nails it.
Democracy, of course, turns the ruling class of a country into renters. Unlike an owner, a monarch for example, the office holders in a democracy are in it for short term profit. The next election could find them back in the dreaded private sector. In order to hedge against that eventuality, they must convert as much private property into public property, in order to distribute it to friends of government. Democracy is just a formalized version of tragedy of the commons, that always ends in it murdering itself.
