We used to make these in chemistry class. I know it’s incredibly nerdy, but they are really fascinating. You can pound it with a hammer and the hammer just bounces off, but break the tail and it turns to dust.
Of course the chemistry teacher usually regretted allowing us to do anything outside of the “safe” experiments that we were assigned. A bored and intelligent mind in a room full of chemicals and sources of fire can be an incredibly dangerous thing.

Not to mention have a hell of a good time.
