I love how they continuously frame the pipeline in terms of ‘energy independence’, as if the Alberta tar sands oil were going to be consumed here. The true reason for the XL pipeline is so that Canadian oil companies can access ports to get their oil onto the world market, where it commands a higher price.
Once the pipeline is built–and I have no doubt it will be–the chickens will come home to roost in the form of higher oil prices for us all. So much for ‘energy independence’.
