There are social and cultural influences and practical considerations; but the basic problem is that because of their genetic makeup, some people’s bodies are more efficient at storing calories. In a famine situation, they would be the survivors; in a world where abundant food is available, they are the obese.

Hey, you, fat guy — you’re a survivor. Take a bow. Or try, anyway.

    Left unexplained is why there has been a seemingly explosive increase in the number of ‘survivors’ in the last 50 years.

    We no longer let natural selection weed out the losers. Eventually you wind up with enough losers to do stupid shit like elect Obama President. Then the only thing you can do is wait for civilization to unravel and hope that the next time people won’t be such fools.
